DNG question: Exporting develop histoppry in LR 2.2

I want to be able to send the original imported .dng along with the edit history to another person.
Is there any way to edit a .dng and transfer the image and the edit history to another computer image by image?
Jay Gould

Hi, In the Catalog that was created is a copy of the image.
The process created a parent folder and put into the parent folder/root folder a folder with the original catalog name and the single image contained therein, a second folder entitled "catalog name" Previews.Irdata, and a file named "catalog name".ircat.
Since the image is in the parent folder do you believe I need to send another copy of the image along with the parent folder?
Thanks, Jay

  • Is there a way (or a plugin) to export develop settings into a readable file format?

    For online educational/sharing purposes, I'd like to be able to export my LR develop settings into a readable text format so that if I share a before/after picture I can also include the LR develop settings that went into creating the after picture.  I've looked for 2 days and I can't find a plug-in that will do this.

    The List View plugin can export develop settings as a CSV file for Excel or HTML for a browser.
    If you're technically minded and comfortable with scripting, it's straightforward to write a script that reads the settings from the XMP metadata stored in the .xmp sidecars (for raws) or in the XMP metadata section of JPEGs and TIFFs.   Open a .xmp sidecar in your favorite text editor to get a flavor of how the develop settings are stored there.

  • DNG files exported from LR4 not showing changes made when opened in PSE10?

    I have LR4, and once I make some develop changes I've been exporting the files I want to use as DNG.  I then open them in PSE10 to make final edits.  It's been working fine, actually I had an older version of Adobe Raw in my PSE on my other computer.  So when I opened in PSE it would ask if I wanted to conver to compatible version to edit in camera raw.  I always said no b/c I didn't need to do anymore raw edits.  Now that I have installed PSE on my new computer, it has the new ACR version I guess.  When I open the DNGs to edit now I no longer get this error message, but it's showing my contrast, etc. as a standard raw setting instead of the changes I made in LR.  Some are showing....like vibrance, but "recovery" which I know is "highlights" in LR, and other things are not showing correctly.  I know that the options are different, but I don't want to use the ACR settings that it's using when I open the file, or have to go through them again.  I'm sure there's something I'm missing but can't figure it out.  Thanks for any help!

    I quite simply did not comment on the issue of "it is supposed to be better to keep DNG files as opposed to NEF files now, right?"
    The issue you raised in your original post, and the issue of choosing DNG versus NEF, are completely separate and independent.
    The issue of transferring photos to PSE would cause the exact same problems in your case whether or not you use DNG or NEF.
    On the issue of converting photos from NEF to DNG, there are advantages and disadvantages, some people do and some people don't. If you'd like to know more, I suggest you search this forum, there are plenty of discussions on this topic.

  • Save synonyms and hierarchy to DNG without export

    What I want: to have DNG files as backups with all of the processing settings and the same keywords and snyonyms that exported files get. I dug around online and was discouraged to find other people asking the same sort of question... but dating back to 2008... with no answers. So, please, just tell me I overlooked something because this whole issue is getting annoying.
    current workflow in LR3.5:
    1)  Import files with "Copy as DNG"
    2)  Process, keyword, and export JPEGs
    3)  **Save metadata to DNG files** <- This is where things break down and the same keywords and synonyms the jpegs get do NOT get saved to the DNG, and categories that shouldn't be added get added anyway.
    4)  Move the keyworded DNGs to a server to archive (moved and not exported; server restriction)
    I am working with the photographers at work and their main request for this new workflow is to keep it simple and fast. Time between events doesn't always leave time for the work-arounds that seem to be required. As far as I see it, the only way to get everything in the DNG would be to export the DNGs again (and remembering to delete the original files from the hard drive and catalog). However, the sheer amount of extra time waiting for close to a thousand photos from each big event being re-written as DNGs when they are already in that format is simply mad!
    The main goal here is to have the DNGs match the JPEGs so there is always a FULL backup. So if a file needs tweaks or a different crop to fit a layout, then the raw can be downloaded and edited with ease. We don't keep everything in the LR catalog because the large amount of photos eats hard drive space and the fact that multiple people need access to the files (so we use Extensis Portfolio on a server).
    Here are some things I've tried to no avail: convert to DNG after keywording is complete (but it ignores synonyms and adds categories as keywords), save metadata to file (same thing: no synonyms, and adds categories)
    Thanks in advance!
    Michael K.

    Jonah and Don,
    Thanks for the replies. What I want to do is be able to come back to the files months from now, and be able to process out new derivative files, for a client request, say, secure in the knowledge that all my metadata and exposure info have survived the conversion to DNG and the move to the new hard drive.
    So, if as Jonah says, the Virtual Copies stay associated with the files when they convert to DNG, then I can use them just like they were when I made them with the ORIGINAL RAW files. Is this correct?
    Don, how does Drag and Drop work within LR? I did not know that existed. Please be kind enough to explain how one would MOVE a folder of newly-created DNG files from one drive to another.
    Thanks so much for the input! I think I am finally getting the hang of how LR can really work for me.

  • A question about development of livecylcle forms

    Hello,  I have been asked to build complex static forms for a client of ours using Livecycle Designer version 8.2.  The forms are static (fixed field) forms that will not interact with users in any way.  We will be populating the form fields from a .NET api so there is no need for any kind of validation handling / submit buttons etc.   In that way the forms are relatively simple.
    The problem I am running into is the desired form layout is complex and I am not sure about the most productive way to produce this layout.  The form a need to produce must exactly match the content of the attached file called "TheGoal.pdf".   Unfortunately this comes as some kind of read only image produced from a word template and I am unable to manipulate the layout when I import this into Livecycle designer.  The client wants me to create the form from scratch so they can have full control of the layout if changes are requested in future.
    To get a start on this, I went through the tutorials that come with the product just so I could understand how the forms are built.  I have attached a pdf file called "MyAttempt.pdf" that shows my initial attempts with the first few fields in the desired layout ("TheGoal.pdf").
    I have considered a number of approaches and, the only thing, that sort of works is draw all the boxes using rectangle objects and then dropping the required fields into the rectangles.  [Note: I have tried using tables and nested tables but I appear to be limited by the fact that tables only allow me to have a fixed number of columns and that nested tables always fille the entire cell of the parent table. ]
    The problem I have run into right away is I am finding my current approach very labor intensive.   Any time I want to change anything like resizing a box I have to resize all of the other boxes on the form.   As the form grows in complexity I can see the whole thing becoming a maintenance nightmare.
    In short my question is this:
    What is the best approach for creating complex layouts like this?  As an html developer I have been used to using tables to handle complex layouts in a way that can be changed relatively easily but that approach doesn't appear to work with Adobe LiveCycle designer.
    Any thoughts or insights would be very much appreciated. [Sorry about the long explanation].
    Thanks in advance.

    I justed wanted to say thanks for all of the help.   I think I am getting closer to an agreed approach with the client that might work.
    It looks like they will be fine with me just overlaying the fields on top of the Adobe image for most of the pages just because it will take a long time to create the layout manually for each one.  There is one page that is dynamic in nature because the number of table items on that page can potentially increase to any number - that part I am thinking of handling dynamically.
    Basically there will be a static image for each page except the dynamic one.   When all the fields are populated I will concatenate them all together and handle the page numbers in code.  [I will be using VB code with the apToolkit to handle the form data binding and concatenation of pdf images].
    Its a little messy but we think this effort should be less than trying to create that complicated layout on all of the pages.
    If anybody has any thoughts on that or similar experience I would very much like to hear about it. [The image file is in the original post and it is called "TheGoal.pdf".  Each page on that will be broken down to an individual image and page 2 is the part I will try to handle as separate dynamic form because the items in the "Property" section can increase to any number of items]
    Geoff.

  • Magic Values - A Question of Development Approach

    Hello folks,
    I have a question for you PL/SQ developers out there. This isn't a specific problem or query I'm raising here, more a question of general approach. I'm probably not using the correct terms here so forgive me. Also, I've already posted this in the ApEx forum, however there's a degree of overlap into pure PL/SQL so I thought you were all bound to have experience of something along the same lines.
    Anyhoo...
    How to deal with Magic values - i.e. values which hold no intrinsic value in and of themselves, other than for state, process or conditional logic control. I use them quite a lot in my PL/SQL code (as I'm sure most developers do in one context or another).
    From a Data architecture perspective, I'll generally have some sort of table for storing the 'facts': names, addresses etc, etc. Any application-specific magic values ('status', 'type') will be held as a foreign key in this table, which will reference a form of lookup table.
    Example:
    EMOTION
    ID   Description
    ==   ===========
    1    HAPPY
    2    SAD
    3    NEUTRAL
    PERSON
    NAME ... EMOTIONAL_STATE
    ====       ===============
    BILL       1
    JERRY    1
    BRIAN      3
    DONNA    2So far, so banal...
    Now, say I have a process that needs to reference someone's emotional state for some sort of conditional logic:
    declare
       n_estate number;
    begin
       select emotional_state into n_estate
         from Person
        where name = 'BILL';
       case when v_state = 1 then
          -- do something
       case when v_state = 2 then
          -- do something else
       else
          -- otherwise something else again
    end case;
    end;straight away your bad code radar should be going crazy: you're coding literals in there! So, the old java programmer in me wants to store these as constants - I'll generally square them away inside a package somewhere, like so:
    create or replace package PKG_CONSTANTS as
       ES_HAPPY constant number:= 1;
       ES_SAD constant number := 2;
       ES_NEUTRAL constant number := 3;
    end PKG_CONSTANTS;Thus the code becomes
    Case when v_state = PKG_CONSTANTS.ES_HAPPY then ...Herein lies the crux of the issue. I'm effectively defining the same value twice: once in the lookup table (for data integrity) and once in the package. If new values are defined (say "Existential Ennui") or existing values are changed, I need to make sure the two are aligned, which hinders maintainability.
    I thought about initialising the values as sort of pseudo-constants in the package initialise code but then you end up replacing one literal with another; you end up with code like:
    create or replace package PKG_CONSTANTS as
       ES_HAPPY number;
       ES_SAD constant number;
       ES_NEUTRAL constant number;
    end PKG_CONSTANTS;
    create or replace package body PKG_CONSTANTS as
       rf_curs sys_refcursor;
    begin
       for rf_curs in
          select ID
                 ,description
            from EMOTIONAL_STATE;
       loop
          case description
          when 'HAPPY' then
             ES_HAPPY := ID;
          when 'SAD' then
             ES_SAD := ID;
          when 'NEUTRAL' then
             ES_NEUTRAL := ID;
          else
             null;
          end case;
       end loop;
    end PKG_CONSTANTS;I also thought about using dynamic PL/SQL to re-write and recompile the constants package in the event of a value being changed in the lookup table...seems like quite a lot of work, given that the magic value is pretty much meaningless outside of the scope of the application.
    So... how to deal with this? What approach to you take? Does data integrity over-ride application programming style?
    Any contributions would be welcome!

    Hello,
    I had a look through the article (8 year's worth of thread? Sheesh that's dedication!) and yet it doesn't quite express exactly what I'm meaning. The argument there appears to be between dynamic SQL with bind variables versus static SQL. I'm not talking dynamically building queries or the use of bind variablers per se - its more related to how one makes use of magic values within the context of conditional logic and application code.
    The example I chose happened to use a case statement, which maybe blurs the line with the syntax of pure SQL query and perhaps why you thought I was going down the dynamic SQL route, but I could just have easily replaced them with a series of 'if elsif else end' type expressions.
    From an application developer point of view, the mantra of 'abstraction through constants' is the norm - referencing literals in expressions is generally frowned upon, with the possible exception of special numbers such as 1 or 0 (for incrementing counters, referring to the start of arrays etc, etc). One only has to look at the work of Feuerstein to see this - time and again in his books, the concept of delegating constant values (and subtypes) to well-defined areas (the "Single Source of Truth") rears it's head.
    Now in the Oracle world, data architecture generally has primacy, which in this case manifests itself as the use of foreign keys in data tables referencing the equivalent lookups (dimensional modelling, star diagrams and the rest) - thus even special, application-specific values, i.e. with no intrinsic value in the real world, end up in your ERD. There appears to be a bit difference of opinon, depending on the background of the developer.
    Hence my question - how do you, as developers, deal with these sorts of situations?

  • Emergency questions exporting for dvd studio pro (ntsc and pal)

    Hi,
    I'm under a tight timeline and would appreciate any help possible. I'm experimenting with outputs/burning today so the real thing can happen tomorrow.
    I have an hour long project that was shot on two different kinds of cams -- a sony hdv V1U and pan dvx100b. The first shot mostly in 16:9, the second squeeze 24p. We imported all footage as non-hd though, because the V1u has had problems syncing properly with hd settings with final cut. The issue/question now is this-
    I don't know what file format (I'm assuming mpeg-4 for DVD studio pro, but using compressor or no?) or settings to use -- I'm used to mpeg-4, but for some reason it is coming out all grainy/pixelated and I'm not sure if I need to adjust the settings. Also, once exported into a usable/high quality format, I need to burn a ntsc dvd but also a pal dvd -- I've burned pal dvds on dvd studio pro before and know adjusting the settings is just in preferences, but I'm assuming the video will need to be converted into a different kind of file. Or no?
    My sequence settings are 1440x1080 (16:9), quicktime video settings compressor hdv 1080i60. When I export as a quicktime file the conversion is great and no problems, but that isn't workable in dvd studio pro.
    I would appreciate any advice you could offer,
    Thank you,
    Tenzin

    Thank you, I'm trying that -- someone else just mentioned it needing to be an mpeg 2 file as well. The trouble I'm having now in compressor is it isn't converting when I press submit -- nothing is showing up in the batch monitor. I've tried this directly exporting from fcp using compressor, as well exporting quicktime from fcp and then using the quicktime file in compressor.
    I'm not used to using compressor so I'm thinking I am not doing something properly in this process? Thank you for the suggestions, they are reassuring. Do you know if the same file produced by compressor can be used for the pal dvd?

  • ABAP doubts/questions in developing Cusotmer Exit

    Hi,
    I found a customer exit for variables in one of the SDN docs and I have few ABAP questions in it. Function exit is EXIT_SAPLRRS0_001 and Include ZXRSU01. I would really appreciate if someone can help me with it.
    1.     What exactly is an Include? As in this case ZXRSU01?
    2.     What is the difference in the declaration DATA: xyz type d and DATA: xyz like ..
    3.     I have two declarations in a user exit DATA: L_S_RANGE TYPE RSSR SRANGESID and LOC_VAR_RANGE LIKE RRRANGEEXIT. What does RSSR SRANGESID and RRRANGEEXIT correspond to?
    4.     What is I_STEP, there is a statement which says I_STEP=2. What are the all the possible values for I_STEP. As in 2 here is after the popup.
    5.     Also what exactly is I_STEP?
    6.     What does I_VNAM and I_T_VAR_RANGE correspond to? (If I am not wrong it corresponds to variable name)
    7.     From where can I get a list of all such standard variables like I_STEP, I_VNAM…
    Thank you,
    sam

    Your explanation is good. But right now I am working developing a customer exit for BEx variable. Can you please explain questions above in context to the code below:
    DATA: L_S_RANGE TYPE RSR_S_RANGESID.
    DATA: LOC_VAR_RANGE LIKE RRRANGEEXIT.
    Data: v_loc_date type d.
    Data: v_loc_date1 type d.
    Data: v_loc(4) type c.
    CASE I_VNAM.
    to calculate "month to date" user input is "Calday" Key Date
    WHEN 'ZPUTMNTH'.
    IF I_STEP = 2. "after the popup
    LOOP AT I_T_VAR_RANGE INTO LOC_VAR_RANGE
    WHERE VNAM = 'ZPDATE'.
    CLEAR L_S_RANGE.
    L_S_RANGE-LOW = LOC_VAR_RANGE-LOW(6). "low value, e.g.YYYYMM (200606) part of key date (20060625)
    L_S_RANGE-LOW+6(2) = '01'. “ low value e..g. YYYYMM01 (20060601)
    L_S_RANGE-HIGH = LOC_VAR_RANGE-LOW. "high value = input
    L_S_RANGE-SIGN = 'I'.
    L_S_RANGE-OPT = 'BT'.
    APPEND L_S_RANGE TO E_T_RANGE.
    EXIT.
    ENDLOOP.
    ENDIF.
    Thank you,

  • Question: Exporting 1:1 Preview Files

    Ok, here's a question for you all:
    Recently I was moving a large quantity of files onto my external hard drive, somehow, the folder structure got messed up ether by my moving files or by some other program I was running or some combination of the above and I lost all the pictures that were currently in that folder on the hard drive (about 5000-6000); I then undid the photo move so all my more recent pictures were still residing on my MacBook Pro's primary hard drive. I went and used undelete to get back as many as I possibly could, and ended up with about 3500 images that I couldn't recover. However because I've been working recently (pre-accidental delete) with all the files, a large number of the better ones still have the 1:1 preview file. The only way I can think to salvage what I can with these images is to somehow export the 1:1 preview files from lightroom.
    Yes, I know I'm an idiot and needed a backup... I just got another 500gb external hard drive that arrives tomorrow. Point being, all I want to know is how to export these preview files and not be ragged on for not backing up or using undeleting programs or whatever else I could have/should have done that permeates all the other discussion I've seen with people who've had similar issues.
    Thanks in advance,

    If one were prepared to grunge around in the bytes on these files, you could extract the big JPEGs. They wouldn't have color profiles on them, but that could presumably be fixed afterward. But this is an option only for the technically advanced. It may still be worth while saving off a copy of your preview cache so that you could later go back and try to extract these.
    On the Mac what you could probably do is the following assuming you still have a database that references these previews and just views the deleted images as being offline. Go into Print. Crank up the resolution. Select draft mode. Then use the Save As PDF option (the relatively simple-minded built-in one as opposed to anything added by Acrobat). This should build you a PDF containing the high-res JPEG out of the preview cache. You can do multiple images at a time this way, but I probably wouldn't be inclined to do all 3500 of them at once.
    Then you can use some other tool (Photoshop, Acrobat?,...) to extract the JPEGs back out of the the PDF.

  • DNG Question

    I attempt to answer questions on the Bridge Forum.  Several users are now asking about getting the latest DNG so they can use on their new cameras.  If you have CS3 or even 4 and want the latest how do you do that?  I have never done this but the web search referers to ACR and DNG converter.  As if thery are in the same package.
    Since ACR 6.x only works on CS5 if you download it will it not put it in the usual ACR plug in spot, rendering camera raw uselesss?
    How do you just download and use the latest DNG converter on older versions of PS?
    A web search did not provide any quick answers, or sorry if this is a rudundant question.

    b_gossweiler wrote:
    The program is written into C:\Program Files on WinXP and a shortcut is created in the start menu. I wouldn't know the location on Mac.
    Because the Adobe DNG Converter is a stand-alone application that needs no version of Photoshop at all to work, on the Mac you can put it anywhere you desire or feel like.  It simply converts your raw files into raw DNGs.
    Common sense tells us to put it in the root Applications folder, where we can easily find it among all other applications that we have installed on our machine.  One can always put an alias in the Dock.
    On the Mac, if you launch the Adobe DNG Converter you have to point it to a folder, not individual files, as individual files will be grayed out in the open dialog box.  But you can open (convert) individual files by dropping their icons onto the DNG Converter's icon in the Finder.

  • NEWBIE SOA Question:Appl Development for SOA

    This question may have been answered elsewhere; if so, my apologies.
    As a newbie to SOA, I am trying to wrap my head around the question of how app. development for SOA differs from traditional models. For example, non-SOA environments there are few external considerations when coding a process,
    but in SOA environments, I understand everything is a service.
    Can someone provide a few code snippets as to how they would look in each environment?
    I have read through several documents on SOA and have done the SOA tutorial, etc. but I have yet to see a side-by-side comparison of application code in SOA and non-SOA environments.
    How would an architect plan the translation and mapping of business objectives and functional requirements into a technical solution for SOA, architecting the SOA solution ?
    I would really appreciate any pointers (links to articles, etc.) in this direction. Thank you.
    Gordon

    Hello Gordon,
    SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) - as the name indicates, it's design is based on services. SOA is another integration technique which is used for small scale integration. SOA is an approach to have software resources in an enterprise available and discoverable on network as well defined services. Each service would achieve a predefined business objective and perform discrete units of work. The services are independent and do not depend on the context or state of the other services. They work within distributed systems architecture.
    Few links which may help you in understanding SOA and it's design patterns -

  • Exporting development apps to production in HTML DB 2.0

    app1 workspace1 --> app2 workspace2 on same box
    I have had a good scout around and as far as I can gather the proceadure is
    1. Export workspace
    2. Create new workspace
    3. Hack export file to create users
    4. Run Database Object dependancy Report
    5. Sequence build objects (for dependances)
    6. Export table SQL
    7. Copy all packages triggers sequencies
    8. Export Data (to csv?)
    9. Create new tables in new workspace
    10. load data from csv
    11. recreate constraints
    12. recreate triggers packages ect
    13. export application
    14. import application.
    Is there an easyer way of doing this?

    Here is what I have done,
    Disclaimer, know what your doing with your data before you run my commands...
    export the workspace (this will get all your users)
    create a new workspace by importing the exported workspace
    At any point export and import your application....
    For the data on a unix system I don't know if it is different on windows
    this is what I do, I do a database export based upon the schema owner
    create a file and place the following in it... my file name is "exp_parm.txt"
    USERID='sys/**** as sysdba'
    OWNER=******
    BUFFER=50
    compress=n
    CONSISTENT=y
    GRANTS=y
    CONSTRAINTS=y
    FILE=database.exp
    LOG=data1117.log
    then run this command "exp PARFILE=yourfilename"
    To import you do an import from user to user because the export file knows who owns the data: create a file and place the following in it... my file name is "imp_parm.txt"
    USERID='sys/**** AS SYSDBA'
    CONSTRAINTS=y
    FILE=****.exp
    LOG=import-data.log
    FROMUSER=dev
    TOUSER=production
    DESTROY=Y
    to run type this:
    "imp PARFILE=imp_parm.txt"
    My procedure recreates all elements, tables, triggers, packages, functions, sequences and enables all constraints...
    Now later on if you want to synch your development to production you can do something similar:
    But first you must drop all your objects in test I hardcode my schema name in so my production data never can get dropped....
    SELECT 'DROP SEQUENCE SCHEMA_NAME.' || SEQUENCE_NAME || ';' FROM USER_SEQUENCES;
    SELECT 'DROP TABLE SCHEMA_OWNER.' || table_NAME || ' cascade constraints purge;' FROM USER_TABLES;

  • Compress DNG when exporting possible?

    Hello,
    I'm currently using Lightroom 1.x and when exporting RAW files to DNG, I have the possibillity to choose Compressed (lossless).
    I just downloaded the trail of Lighroom 2.x and I cannot find this Compressed option any more. Is it gone, or am I missing something?
    Thanks very much for your help!
    evdbb

    It's gone. They are now all produced as compressed, since there's no point in not doing that unless you have stock in a disk drive company.

  • Newbie question - Portlet development in Portal using JDeveloper

    Hello.
    I've tried to develop a portlet using Oracle JDeveloper, then using it in an Oracle Portal-provided web page.
    I'm so really confused... I don't know where to start!
    Let'say the portlet is a very simple Hello World static html or jsp page.
    What could I do in order to use it in Portal?
    Have I to use jpdk? How?
    Or have I to deploy it in the Application Server home OC4J as a web application?
    Or have I to deploy it in the OC4J_Portal as a web application?
    Or....
    If this helps, here is my platform:
    I'm using Oracle Application Server 10g Portal as middle-tier. It is correlated to an OID/Infrastructure istance wich provides Single SignOn for the applications, based upon an Oracle 9i database, in which runs Oracle Workflow; my needs are to use a Workflow based Java applications in the Oracle Portal as portlets.
    Don't worry: by now, I'm interested in just knowing how to run in the Portal a simple Hello World portlet built with JDeveloper...
    Please, help me.
    Thank you in advance.
    - Umberto

    Hi Umberto,
    Did you have a chance to take a look at the Portal Developer's Guide?
    The Building Java Portlets chapter walks you through the steps you need to take.
    Good luck,
    Peter
