DNS Host(A) records disappear after a while

Hi all,
a few weeks ago we started to change the TCP/IP configuration of our printers from "static" to DHCP with reservations. The DHCP server is configured to register forward Host(A) and reverse PTR record on DNS on behalf of (all) clients, both are W2K3 with SP2.
This works well for all our Toshiba printers/copiers and most of our HP printers. However, on a handful of HP printers the Host(A) record in the DNS zone get lost / disappeard after some time, leading into a non working name resolution. But only the Host(A) record, the reverse PTR record is still there. Currently we have this issue with Business InkJet 2800 attached via a JetDirect J3258G to our network.
In the past we noticed, that on another printer the Host(A) record re-appears after some hours, only to disappear after a while again. These intervals last some hours up to one day, but seem to follow no period or schedule, like DHCP lease time, DNS scavening etc.
I have intentionally not "listed" all the technical details in this first post. However, if you need specific details I will be happy to share them.
Any hint or comment is appreciated

In Windows Phone 8.1 you haev the notification center.
In Windows 8 you have nothing like that.
The good news is Windows 10 Preview has a notification center similar to the one available in Windows Phone 8.1.
In alternative you have the application tile which will present the number of notifications you have not tapped (with some extra development you can get this tile to display the information you have on the image above).

CSV option disappears after a while

We've got this issue: The export to CSV option (from the workspace) disappears after a while!... Restarts helps, but I cant restart all the time!.
Any ideas?

EMAIL: lock screen and badge app icon disappear after a while???

Although the push email function is not working properly either ( a lot of other posts on it) I have the following problem when the Iphone 5 signals an email via push by sound alert ithe mail also shows up on my home screen plus in the form of a badge on the email icon (as configured in settings) but if I do not respond to any of the notifications on the screen and just leave the phone, the notifications disappear and it looks like I have received no new emails........
has anyone experienced this??

Where have you looked for them? When you open "Apps" there is a window for "downloaded" where you should find them.

The reminders disappear after a while. The event/date is still there, but the registered reminder isn't.

Try:

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Done
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Why does my lockscreen disappear after a while?

One example that occurred this problem:
I was listening to music and, of course, I put it on sleep. I wanted to look up something up when as I pressed the sleep button to waken the device, my lockscreen isn't there. The only thing you can see on the screen is the lockscreen wallpaper. No "Slide to Unlock", no clock, no tabs where you can slide up or down the Notification and Control Centres. Nothing.
Is this a bug on the new iOS 7.1? Or is this fixable?

AEBS disappears after reboot?

I'm experiencing quite a peculiar problem, but I hope that it has been solved before.
I'm running a home network with three Dell computers running Windows XP connected to a Airport Extreme base station extended by an Airport Express unit. But each time a computer is rebooted, it is unable to locate the base station and can only locate the Express unit. Seeing as the base station is connected to the internet, all computers find themselves disconnected. I can, however, fix it by unplugging and then reconnected the AEBS to power.
Any advice on a solution would be awfully helpful. Thanks in advance!

Seemingly unable to edit my post, I shamelessly doublepost. It would seem that it is not the computer reboots per say that causes the trouble. The AEBS just disappears after a while. My only guess would be that it has something to do with the DHCP renewal process that makes all my computers unable to locate it.
Another setting which I am not so sure of is "IPv6-mode". What difference does this setting do, and is it ideal to be set to "Tunnel" as it is at the moment?

Yeah, probably some keyboard buffer issue. I've seen this in the past. usualyl depends on some operating system setting and many times wil leventualyl disappear afer some updates. Simply restart the app when ever it begins occuring...

DNS - A Record Disappears while AAAA Record for Host is registered

Hi,
I have a strange issue. Recently we have noticed dynamically registered IPv4 addresses disappearing from our internal Windows DNS forward lookup zones.
I don't run our very large DNS environment, so unfortunately, I can't examine the configuration. The problem seems to be tied to Windows servers with IPv6 enabled (windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 servers).
In our Windows server configuration, we allow the check mark for "Allow this connection to be registered in DNS" to be selected in the TCP/IP settings of the production IP address for the server.
Periodically, we have noticed that the IPv4 A records disappears from DNS while the AAAA IPv6 address for the server remains in tact.
I have been troubleshooting this problem from the server side (DNS client side). It appears that if I disable 6TO4 IPv6 addresses from the server and then restart the server, the problem goes away (IPv4 address comes back in DNS after the reboot).
To disable IPv6 transition technologies, we implement DISABLECOMPONENTS = 1.
Although, this work around seems to solve all of our problems, I don't understand why the IPv4 address gets removed in the first place? I suspect a misconfiguration on the DNS server.

Overall IPv6 Problem: By default, the 6to4 tunneling protocol is enabled in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008 when an interface is assigned a public IPv4 address (that is, an IPv4 address that is not in the ranges
10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12, or 192.168.0.0/16). 6to4 will automatically assign an IPv6 address to the 6to4 tunneling interface for each such address that is assigned, and 6to4 will dynamically register these IPv6 addresses on the assigned DNS server. If this
behavior is not desired, we recommend disabling IPv6 tunnel interfaces on the affected hosts. In the company network, it also appears that IPv6 registration sometimes causes IPv4 A records to be removed in DNS. Microsoft has informed us that this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2782438
might be the reason for the behavior. But I am still pressing to root cause because we are not using DHCP in our server vlans.
Using the options to disable IPv6 described in article 929852 is fully supported by Microsoft: Microsoft Answer: "Disabling IPv6 is not recommended but it's completely supported, but you might have to enable it back in future if you are going to implement
new technologies like DirectAccess etc, which needs IPv6."
Microsoft recommends that we use DisabledComponents = 1 for all Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 servers that are problematic: This will disable IPv6 transition technologies and Servers will not get IPv6 address
It has also been asked that instead of disabling IPv6 on all of our Windows servers can we just disable IPv6 on the DNS servers: Microsoft Answer: disabling IPv6 only on DNS Servers will not help, as it will not stop clients from registering their IPv6 address.
Disabling IPv6 will impact applications that require IPv6. The known application services are: HomeGroup and DirectAccess -- we do not believe our company is currently using these technologies.

Disappearing DNS records may point to duplicate AD zones, so the first thing to do, is let's eliminate if there are any duplicate AD zones.

DNS Host Records Missing

Hi,
We are having an issue where DNS Host records seem to be missing, a user logs on and they don't get their group policies. They can logon again and get their group policies. However the DNS Host record is still not created on the DNS Servers.
If we reboot the PC the DNS record is created. What is going on.
We have 2 DC's running DNS, and one of them runs DHCP.

According to your description, my understanding is that client does not registry record in DNS server when user logon. And the DNS record will be created after rebooting the client.
DNS updates can be sent for any of the following reasons or events:
1. An IP address is added, removed, or modified in the TCP/IP properties configuration for any one of the installed network connections.
2. An IP address lease changes or renews with the DHCP server any one of the installed network connections. For example, when the computer is started or if the
ipconfig /renew command is used.
3. The ipconfig /registerdns command is used to manually force a refresh of the client name registration in DNS.
4. At startup time, when the computer is turned on.
5. A member server is promoted to a domain controller.
A user logon behavior will not trigger DNS update/registry. You may Open CMD on client and type
ipconfig /registerdns command to manually force a refresh of the client name registration in DNS.
If I have any misunderstanding about your question, please correct.

DHCP Reservation Sync and DNS Host record sync etc shown in IPAM GUI

Hello all,
I am aware of the scripts in the TechNet script center to sync DHCP leases etc to IPAM, however my question is about something else -
If you highlight an IP address (IP address inventory->select an IP), You can see fields that say: "DHCP reservation sync", "DNS PTR record sync" and "DNS host record sync" as below:
I was curious as to what these are for. Is there some built-in sync functionality for these that I perhaps have not enabled? (Don't see such options any where..)

The three columns tell us the information of the synchronization between IPAM server and DNS server (or DHCP server) .

IPAM can sync DNS and DHCP records .
The IPAM database is separate from DHCP and DNS servers on our network ,and full synchronization of hosts and IP addresses between IPAM and managed DNS or DHCP servers does not occur automatically
unless we have configured automated tasks to perform this synchronization .

I have switched to the DNS hosted by my domain registrar
(Network
Solutions), and I am curious if these default "A" records are
necessary to
keep:
@ (None).domainname.org
* (All Others) .domainnamename.org
They are currently pointed to the same IP address as
domainname.org.

Did you use any of the "sleep" drivers supplied? I have found it best to just totally reformat/erase the drives and let the OS handle them.

.Mac mail disappearing after while. (It is not set to.)

I have the latest updates to Tiger and Mail.
That's the case. Mail from .Mac seems to be disappearing after while. I have it set up to store messages on the server (both sent and deleted). I started having a sneaking suspicion when I would go to check for mail that I had previously sent or deleted and couldn't find any of it. Stuff that I KNEW should be there. It appears like Mail is deleting messages that are a month old—even though I have it set to never do this. Any ideas? I would like to stop losing my mail, or not be forced to store it all on my Mac for viewing to prevent it from being lost on the server.
Is there some other setting besides in Mail. Maybe one on .Mac itself? Because I did not find it.

Have you confirmed settings at Mail > Preferences > Accounts under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences?

Bulk Import Static DNS Host Records?

I have a text file with the hostnames and IP addresses for a large group of new computers that should have a static host entries.
How can I import these into Server 2008 DNS without having to type them in one by one?

You can achieve this using Powershell 3.0 if you have Windows Server 2012. Or you can install Powershell 3.0 on your Windows Server 2008 and perform the task. More information on:
