DNS & License configuration

Hi,
Please help me with the following problems.
See my company have two public IP address: 200.200.200.1 and
200.200.200.2, one domain name: mycompany.com. These two public
addresses are mapped into two private addresses (192.168.0.1 and
192.168.0.2) via NAT(network address translator) respectively.
The two servers are clustered.
The problems are:
1) Should I add two entries in ISP's DNS configuration file?
mycluster IN A 200.200.200.1 (maybe 192.168.0.1 is wrong)
mycluster IN A 200.200.200.2
2) In my two weblogic servers, what should the IP addresses bound
in the cluster licenses be? 200.200.200.X or 192.168.0.X?
(The servers runs on privates IP address. That is, the two
servers are in a internal network segment. )
What should I do?

Hi Andy
First of all, you should have a proxy server to support clusters. Its
always a good idea to have proxy servers. To setup proxy servers refer to
the weblogic site and search for NSAPI or ISAPI. Once you have done that,
you can give the address of the proxy server to the DNS. Anyone from the
outside will be able to connect to the proxy server and you will need only
one entry in the named.conf file.
Your proxy server should have 2 NICs one connecting to the outside and one
connecting to the inside. In this case, you will need to specify the
internal IPs in the cluster license file. Only the proxy server will know
where the cluster is. The proxy server will transmit all requests via the
internal NIC.
Hope this does the trick

Hi, I've tried to look in all topics, but I was not able to find any solution.
I'm installing a DNS service over a Mac OSX Server 10.6, but I'm still having lots of problems with the configuration.

    Thanks Felix for quick response.
    In your scenario:
    1. You configured to different DNS servers and probably only one of them replied to DNS queries. And this is OK.
    2. When non valid IP configured means that DNS server will not reply to DNS query and than failover will query the second DNS server in the list. And this is also OK.
I'm looking 2 different DNS servers configuration when one of them will reply to different domains. For example:
First server will reply to *.mycompany.com.
The second one will reply to any query except mycompany.com domain(since it is not published).
    Thanks again,

  • Photoshop CS, lost "license configuration data"

Photoshop CS question. Has anyone ever suddenly lost their "license configuration data"?
I get this error when I start up Photoshop: "The license configuration data for Adobe Photoshop is no longer usable".
I click "OK" and it takes me to the activation screen with the serial number already entered. Activate it on line and I get an error so I go to phone activate... the guy I talk to says the serial number (the one that is automatically entered by my copy of Photoshop) is not valid. I've had this copy of Photoshop on my PC for about 5 years and it has always worked fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is that photoshop cs (photoshop 8)?
If so, then your running into the fact that adobe took the activation servers offline.

  • Windows 2008 DNS & DHCP configuration steps for 11gR2 GI install with GNS

    Hi,
I have windows 2008 R2 server with DNS & DHCP services installed. I am planning to install 2 node RAC with GNS option.
The problem is i could not find any document to setup the windows 2008 DNS server for the below steps.
    a. Configure GNS VIP : add a name resolution entry in a DNS for the GNS virtual IP address in the forward Lookup file.
    gns-server IN A <virtual_IP>
where gns-server is the GNS virtual IP address given during grid installation.
    b. Configure the GNS sub-domain delegation: add an entry in the DNS to establish DNS Lookup that directs the DNS resolution of a GNS subdomain to the cluster.
    clusterdomain.example.com. NS gns-server.example.com.
where clusterdomain.example.com is the GNS subdomain (provided during grid installation) that you
delegate and gns-server.clustername.com resolves to GNS virtual IP address.
I am aware that this configuration steps has to be taken care by the System administrator. Here is what he tried and the results.
My SA was able to Configure GNS VIP in the DNS and the Nslookup works fine for this.
When he Configures the GNS sub-domain delegation the nslookup fails when trying to resolve the SCAN name.
Any step by step tutorial for this windows 2008 DNS & DHCP configuration for Oracle GNS setup would be highly appreciated.

  • DNS server configuration and behaivour

    Hi all,
I'm looking for detail explanations which can explain how Mac OS X 10.6 *DNS client* works and may be configured.
According to http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2227251 nothing is not guaranteed like order and failover.
According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4030 failover will take affect when DNS server returns with SERV_FAIL (0x2) error code. What about NXDOMAIN (0x3) error code (which is more interesting scenario)?
What I'm looking for DNS client?
I'm looking for several DNS servers configuration which allow to split DNS domains for several areas. This, for example, may be very useful for VPN connections when VPN DNS server will resolve internal resource and another server (configured before VPN tunnel established) will resolve external resources.
Is there any possible configuration to achieve this requirement for Mac OS?
    Thanks in advance,

  • DNS change on network, but DNS not configured on CUCM. Is a rehosted license needed???

    HI,
    I am running CUCM 8.0.3.
We just updated part of our network and changed the DNS server.
I need/want to verify if I need to rehost my license key. My belief is “NO”…
From what I’ve read, when you change DNS, it changes the calculated value of the license  MAC, and thus you need to get it rehosted.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/cli_ref/8_0_3/cli_ref_803.html#wp39980
BUT… If DNS is not configured, and I’m not adding a new DNS into CUCM either, do I still need to get my license rehosted?
My understanding, is that since DNS is not configured and thus not changing, the calculated value of the MAC stays the same, and there is NO need to change out, or rehost, our license.
Attached is a image of “Show network eth0” from my CUCM showing DNS is not configured currently.
Note: It's just the DNS on the network that has changed. The IP address/subnet/gateway/MAC address of the CUCM is staying the same.
Thanks in advance for any insight...
    -Chris

    Hi Chris
Adding the DNS will lead to changing in your licensing MAC since the value is changed from null to something else.
    But:
The licensing MAC is only valid if you are using a virtual environment, such as a UCS box and Exsi host on top of that . If you are using physical environment such MCS server then Licenses are bound to physical MAC and you can change the DNS without any worry for re hosting the licenses.
    You can run
    Show hardware
to check if you are using MCS or UCS box.

  • DNS Help: Configure for local and extenal services using same domain name?

Hello all. I'm setting up a 10.5 server, have scoured these great forums and gotten close, but am still stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My network setup is as follows: Internet (2xT1) > modem > router/firewall/NAT device > XServe > switches > rest of network, clients, etc. Pretty standard, I believe.
I'd like to use this XServe on our local network/intranet/LAN only for OD, networked home directories, AFP, iCal, Time Machine, Print and Software Update.
My website is hosted on an external server.
My email is also hosted on a (different) external server.
    Domain is school.edu
    XServe name is xserve.school.edu
    XServe is 10.0.0.25
I've gone through Apple's recommended DNS setup (supplemented by some great info found here on the forums....), and am able to connect to other Internet sites (with client's DNS server set as 10.0.0.25), but unable to connect to www.school.edu, or send/receive mail to/from mail.school.edu.
In short, connecting to external domains that are NOT related to my school are fine, but I'm unable to connect to any domain that IS related to my school.
If anyone out there can shoot me some notes on how to configure the DNS settings, zones, forwarding, etc. to accomplish this, I'd be VERY appreciative.
Thanks, in advance, to anyone who can help me out.
    Cheers,
    Tim

In short, connecting to external domains that are NOT related to my school are fine, but I'm unable to connect to any domain that IS related to my school.
If your server thinks it's authoritative for 'school.edu' then you have to add records for every host in the school.edu zone.
For example, if you want to be able to resolve 'www.school.edu' then you have to have a 'www' record. If you want to send/receive mail you have to add an MX record, and so on.
It doesn't matter that you're not responsible for those servers, it's just that since this machine thinks it 'owns' school.edu it will only respond with records in its own zone and won't care about what any other name server says, even if that other name server is authoritative for the zone.
FWIW, that's often why people running stub servers like this choose a separate subdomain (like 'dept.school.edu') so they can leave the main school.edu records on the main server and have full control over a subdomain.

  • What Is an Appropriate Hostname & DNS Zone Configuration for External DNS Setup?

I setup servers that are hosted on a secure external data centre. The data centre has its own DNSS, so the DNS service is never setup on the server itself, and is handled by the data centre. I have already setup a handful of servers, and they all seem to be working well. Nevertheless, a couple of people in these discussions have told me, that I'm not setting the servers up 'properly' because of the way I'm naming the server - ie., they believe I'm assigning a 'wrong' hostname - and because of the way I'm setting up subdomains in the zone file. Here is how I'm currently doing it:
    CURRENT SETUP:
The server is public, and it is also the ONLY machine publicly in the domain zone. So, if the client's domain is "example.com", there is only one machine that will respond to all services in that domain. Because of this:
    - Server Hostname: "example.com"
    - reverse DNS PTR record points to "example.com"
    -  'mail.example.com', 'www.example.com', 'ftp.example.com', etc, are all setup as A records that point to the same IP address as "example.com".
This has been working fine so far. I have not had any problems with any service, including mail. However, a couple of people suggested that "example.com" is not a fully qualified domain name, and that this setup is therefore  'incorrect', and that it will cause me problems in the future. They suggest I should be setting these servers up like this:
    SUGGESTED SETUP:
    - Server Hostname: "server.example.com"
    - reverse DNS PTR record points to "server.example.com"
    - setup "www.example.com" as a record pointing to the same IP address as "server.example.com", but avoid setting up other subdomains unless absolutely necessary - ie., tell client to use "server.example.com" as the 'proper' address for mail/ftp/etc.
Technically, 'net', 'company.net' and 'server.company.net' can all be fully qualified domain names, if each one of them points unequivocally to a single IP address. An domain name is not fully qualified, for instance, when it points to a subnet instead of a single IP address. Using "example.com" as a FQDN is technically correct. However, what is 'technically correct' and what Server considers acceptable are not always the same thing....
I certainly don't want my clients to have problems in the future, and if OS X Server is going to misbehave because of the way I'm setting up my hostname and zone files, I need to know for sure NOW rather than later!

I'm the "other people" referenced here.
For general information on DNS, please acquire and skim a copy of Cricket Liu's DNS and BIND book.  It was on its fifth edition when last I checked.  DNS server on OS X Server is the ISC BIND server, which is discussed in that book in some detail.
If configuring OS X Server in a data center, the OS X Server box probably does not want (nor need) to be running a local DNS server.  (Running local DNS services just means that DNS server will potentially become part of a DNS DDoS, if who can issue queries to the server isn't carefully controlled.)  Use the DC DNS server(s).
If you want the domain itself to be used as an IP address (eg: example.com), then that's usually an A record, particularly if you're getting email via that domain (and not an MX record going elsewhere).  Some versions of OS X Server have had some issues with setting up this record within Server Admin.app and Server.app.
The previous issues were likely due to stale DNS translations lurking within the configuration, and caching of that data up to the TTL.  (FWIW, this discussion is related to this thread and this thread.)

  • Server 2008 R2 RDS HA Licensing configuration best practices

    Hello
What is the best practice for setting up and HA licensing environment for RDS?  I'm using a mixture of RDS CALs for my internal/AD users and External Connector license for my external/Internet users.
    Daddio

    Hi,
To ensure high availability you want to have a fallback License Server in your environment. The recommended method to configure Terminal Service
Licensing servers for high availability is to install at least two Terminal Services Licensing servers in Enterprise Mode with available Terminal Services CALs. Each server will then advertise in Active Directory as enterprise license servers with regard to
the following Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) path: //CN=TS-Enterprise-License-Server,CN=site name,CN=sites,CN=configuration-container.
To get more details on how to setup your License Server environment for redundancy and fallback, go over the "Configuring License Servers for High Availability"
section in the Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server Licensing whitepaper

  • DNS servers configuration after AD/DC replication.

    Good day all.
I understand that this issue might have been repeated several times in the previous posts/questions but nevertheless I feel the need to explain the situation I have thoroughly in order to have the right answer.
In our company, we have a W2k3 DC that has a DNS server installed with it. All clients (who happen to have a static IP, subnet, gateway and DNS) use this DC for internal DNS resolution. The hardware on this DC is getting old and we are planning to use it
to run an application that acts as a middleware between the machines that we have and our information system.
In order to achieve this goal, I suggested that we buy new hardware and perform replication of AD. According to my understanding of such a procedure, I know that we have to "upgrade" the forest that the w2k3 holds to be compatible with w2k8 and
after that we can perform DCPROMO, etc.
My question is: What happens to the DNS server on the old DC after I successfully perform the replication of AD on the new hardware and demote the old DC? It seems to me that I should keep the DNS server there running in order to prevent the action of manually
changing the IP settings for all clients in the network.
My other questions is: Should I create a replica for the DNS server as well ?
I appreciate the efforts made on TechNet and thank you for your time.
    Nadim.

    Hello Chris.Premo
I hope you are having a good day.
Allow me to describe my situation to you and if you may give me proper advice on what actions to perform.
    1. We have a 2003 DC and a 2008r2 replica child DC. DNS on 2003 in primary pointing to itself and secondary pointing to the 2008r2. DNS on 2008r2 is the reverse (primary pointing to itself 'replica 2008r2' and secondary pointing to 2003DC)
    2. FSMO roles are currently all held by the 2003.
    3. DNS and active directory users and computers have successfully performed the replication when the 2008r2 was installed.
Goal: the goal here is to turn off the main 2003 DC and transfer its job and duties and roles to the new 2008r2.
I am in a situation where the IP of the old 2003 server cannot be changed and the machine itself has to stay online in order to serve other application.
What should I do ? How do i remove the active directory role and dns role from the server without letting it affect the domain and its functionality??
Please keep in mind that I am ready (and already started) to adjust the dns settings on all clients to point primary to the new 2008r2 (which is working) and secondary to our gateway (which in turn can forward the dns queries to my choice , which is in this
    case the old 2003).
    Thank you so much.
