Do app updates have a logical order

Is there any logic to the sequence that app updates appear in the AppStore? It clearly isn't most recent first or in alphabetical order. Thanks.

I never asked myself that question, but maybe it's in the order of how large the update is. so, the update with the most megabytes first, and then smaller updates.

  • New software update still not downloading.  Apps updates have all downloaded since iTunes issue resolved.  Is the software issue also related to this, or is there another problem?  This is on my iPhone 6, not my Mac.

Trying to download the iOS 8.2 software update on my iPhone 6, but it won't update.  All app updates have resolved since the iTunes issue was resolved.  Is the software update issue related to this as well, or is it another problem entirely?
I've synced it to iTunes, turned it off/on, etc., but still not downloading.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi DebC64,
So is the iOS 8.2 update not downloading to your iPhone, computer or both?
You have synced it to iTunes, that is an option to update if it's not updating wirelessly.  Please see if other steps help.

  • Some of My app updates have frozen....waiting

I've tried re booting. When I touch and hold the app nothing happens. The frozen apps can't even be deleted

You already tried rebooting and you said that didn't work, so just skip that suggestion. These have worked for others in the past. YMMV.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

  • App updates have wrong info - cause problems in iTunes & iPhones

If you are having all or any of these issues please add to this topic so we can make sure Apple is aware of this. If you have found any solutions to these issues please post them!!
My biggest problem with my iPhone is the amount of problems there are with updating Apps. There are issues whether you update via the iPhone, or via iTunes. Plus, you get different messages from the iPhone, the iTunes "Library" column, and the iTunes main window!! It feels like a no-win situation when it comes to App updates. Here's what I've found so far:
If I use iTunes to download the updates I end up with multiple copies of the apps taking up space on my hard drive (see [this discussion with screen shot|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7808993#7808993|App Store duplicate apps in iTunes]). Also when updating via iTunes I frequently have to sync twice due to app installation errors.
If I use the iPhone to update the Apps I run into the problem of possibly losing use of my iPhone as happened to me this past week. While updating an app the iPhone went into the Apple Logo of Death screen and no matter how long I waited or what I did (reseting, etc) I ended up having to put it into recovery mode THREE TIMES and restoring the firmware TWICE and trying to restore from backup FOUR TIMES none of which were ever 100% successful because the restore from backup would freeze at about the 95% progress indicator!! UGH!
And to top it all off, how can you tell what updates are actually there? For the last two days the iTunes Library entry for "Applications" has a "3" next to it, supposedly showing that I have 3 updates available (screen shot below). But when I click on "3 Updates Available" at the bottom of the main applications screen, it takes me to an iTunes store page that says I have no updates available!
In the meantime, my iPhone App store says I have 1 update available (screen shot below).
So the issue becomes do I dare update the app using the iPhone and risk having to go through the restore from backup dance again? Or do I wait for iTunes to figure out what it's doing? And what about those three mystery apps that iTunes says need updating?
This overall experience is very non-Apple. These are the kinds of issues I used to see all the time when I used another Operating System. I became an Apple fan because things like this rarely, if ever, happens with their software and hardware.
Please add to this post if you are having the same problems. Also any suggested solutions would be great to hear - such as how to get iTunes to show the correct number of App updates, how to safely update via the iPhone app store, etc.

It isn't just thos enu, mbers and the updates.. Those DEFINITELY will tank the phone as it did AGAIN to mine last night.
I just got done putting back every app from a NEW download. I thought maybe reloading them was putting a problem back each time I had to reset my phone.
I checked by disconnected and cold booting hte phone everyt now and then to see if the ipod/apps not working bug hit.
It was FINR until I got the the last few apps.. which are games and stuff....
It took a longer time at the first "syncing iphone" nbanner which I notice dusually means "I am tanking you phone:.
I just removed the last batch of apps but have no hope that this is going to fix the phone.

I hafd the phone a month no problem WITh 7.7.1.. This all started when I wentr to 2.02 but others were having issues before that.
This is horribly frustrating. The best that can be done is NEVER sync with itunes.. which means you cant put thing son the phone.. What a mess

  • Do paid iPod touch apps also have paid updates?

For example, if I were to download a paid app from my iPod touch, and an update for that app is released, is the update free or is it paid for?

Depends on if the app developer chooses to charge for it or not.
So far all of my app updates have been free.

  • Loading Apps updates only via sidebar

I use version 11.0.1.12 of iTunes.
    Consider the following situation:
    - on the iOS device there are nortifications for app updates
    - connect the iOS device to iTunes (setting: search automatically for available downloads)
Is it right that I have to use the (old) sidebar on the left side to download app updates?
(I cannot see any button for updating app via iTunes if the sidebar is not shown.
Furthermore there is no setting for automatic download of app updates in the settings of iTunes.
So app updates have always to be downloaded manually.)

Simply select Apps from the content selection drop down at the top left of the screen.
Then in the lower right corner (where it has always been), click the "Check for Updates" button.

  • Apple is making me pay to update free apps OR apps that have already been purchased, More than once??!!

I have Recently been trying to update several apps of mine, and when i click update all, or one at a time, it takes me straight to my billing information. Then after that it says i need to pay to update my apps that have already been purchased or apps that i have gotten for free, i have never used a credit card to buy apps, i have always just used iTunes Cards to Redeem apps. However, when i took my iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.1  to the apple store, the "geniuses" have told me i have outstanding payments on an app so in order to update them, i need to go and purchase more itunes cards.. So i have went out and bought about Three 20$ itunes cards hoping that by using just 1 card - it would fix the problem im having. but it isnt. ALSO if i purchase an app without having the same amount of what it costs it will not let me buy/download it, so how can i have to pay for apps that are already on my phone?? MOST THAT ARE FREE. Can someone please help me solve this issue that actually knows what they are doing?! thanks..

That's because the billing information is out of date or there was a problem with a previous purchase.
Then after that it says i need to pay to update my apps that have already been purchased or apps that i have gotten for free
No. That's not what it says. What is the EXACT message you get?

Contact iTunes store support and find out what the problem is.

Um... yeah... That's the way it works. If you want to buy something, you have to have enough to actually pay for it.

I told you, I can't restore iOS. In order to restore my iPad, I need to update it to iOS 7.0.4, but my iPad needs available space to update, but I don't have any. I can't delete anything at all, so yeah.. are there any possible ways to restore my ipad without updating? If not, please state other ways to solve this problem.

  • Apps Updating that I have deleted

    Hi,
Every time there are updates for the Apps I have purchased I not only get those updates downloading but I also get apps downloading that I have previously deleted. Can anyone tell me why and how to stop this?
    Thanks

This is bull, i love how any fool can make a suggestion and it gets posted as a solution. I also think its a joke that there is no references to any possible " problems" with any apple products or services. The logic behind Diane Wordsmiths solution has no basis for why this would work. And it does not work, I have apps that keep trying to update that I deleted the first day i downloaded them. Not to mention that I have been ripped off by more than one app, that doesnt get screened or tested by anyone from apple. Steve Jobs was a freak that must have ****** off the gods, so they took him to hades on the express lane. I can only hope. For 29 dollars and a 10 minute wait you can get the answer, maybe. Or for $79 you can get screwed for continuous ability to be told how great this product is.
Its alot like getting the right to vote between two incompetent liars. No thanks.

  • Any rhyme or reason to order in which app updates are displayed?

Is it completely random, or is there an order I am unaware of? I would expect to see app updates displayed by date, i.e. most current updates shown a top of list, but I can find no such pattern or any other hierarchy.
I have over a hundred updates at any given time, and it would be nice to display only the most current, or dismiss older updates I don't intend to download.

Is this truly not an issue for any other users? I would be asking the same question if I had 10 updates.
No, as everybody I know updates their apps. Many of which have to be in order to work correctly with changes to the iOS.
Others fix memory leaks or security issues.
Yes I have seen some degrade the app because they went to add ads or remove a feature they wanted in for sale app, but for those apps, if that is how they want to treat customers and change things after purchase, I just drop them as odds are there is another app that does the same or better.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store notice. For example, if the App Store says you need to update "Twitter," the hacked app may be "Angry Birds" or something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you have to carry out a systematic search.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
In the Finder, press the key combination command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu initially showing Kind. From that menu, select  Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select Raw Query and click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of popup menu. Click in that box and paste (command-V).
The search window will show all the App Store products you've installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the items listed in the search window is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Test.
