Do I need Mozilla/Firefox/Thunderbird?

Hi,
I recently installed Seamonkey, and I don't plan to use Mozilla, Firefox, or Thunderbird. Does Solaris need these kept on the system for any reason? I'm tempted to just pkgrm them but I wasn't sure if the OS had any applications that were keyed to these specific apps.

I would be wary of tossing the mozilla install as well I have found that its java and flash features work consistently while adding them to seamonkey and firefox can sometimes be a disappointing and mystical experience. When something seems borked at a website I like being able to check if the sun provided moz works and most of the time it does. Other than that I never use it.

  • I can't get the website I supposedly needed Mozilla Firefox to come up.

I need to SPEAK to someone. Time is of the essence. I was told I needed this Mozilla Firefox to get to veracity.allegiancemd.com/login but it doesn't come up.

For me, it does open in Google Chrome but not in Firefox, Opera or IE9. Win7x64 Fx5.

It also needs mozilla-firefox-nonroot.tar.gz & mozilla-firefox.run from the build files for 0.9.3-2. I have put these two files and the PKGBUILD in a .tar.bz2, available here. Please be nice to it, that's just my fairly crappy home connection, and if someone could host this file elsewhere, I would greatly appreciate it.
I hope you all like it.

  • WHAT HAPPENED TO MY COMPUTER AFTER UNINSTALLING MOZILLA FIREFOX!!!!!?????

I uninstalled Mozilla Firefox so I could reinstall it since I was having problems printing from my online banking because I could only print it through Internet Explorer.
After uninstalling, I downloaded Mozilla Firefox 19.
When it came to "RUN" or "SAVE" my computer asked me for my Administrative password (which it has never done before and I've owned my laptop since 2007. I tried my password, but I was denied.
What did uninstalling Mozilla Firefox do to my computer??????????
I NEED Mozilla Firefox in order to print shipping labels to send packages.
What changed my computer after the uninstall process???? And how can I fix it?????

Some people have reported luck using the following steps:
    * [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop Download] and save the installer (i.e., choose Save, not Run) to a convenient location
    * Right-click the installer and Run as Administrator
    Does that work?
If the problem is that you cannot even download the installer, is the problem limited to Firefox or are other downloads affected? I wonder whether it's an IE setting.

  • During the installation of Mozilla Firefox 4.0 on Windows Vista, I received an error message saying that I need administrative privileges to install. Are administrative privileges necessary to install Mozilla Firefox 4.0 on Windows Vista?

The happens when I attemp to install Mozilla Firefox 4.0 on a classified network. Initially when I try to install Firefox 4.0, a screen comes up saying that I need administrative privileges to install. Then when I cancel my logon username/password administrative screen, the installation process lets me continue and I can install the Firefox 4.0 software. I would like to know if Firefox 4.0 might encounter problems later on a classified network if Im able to install the software initially.

hello, when this is happening after you've already updated firefox with your admin account, try to delete the ''updates'' folder and ''active-update.xml & updates.xml'' within the %localappdata% folder of your restricted account like it is described in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update#Software_Update_not_working_properly

  • Downloaded firefox 5.0.1 last night, worked fine, Turned computer on today, Mozilla Firefox, it won't start. Get error message, Error: Platform version '5.0' is not compatible with minVersion =5.0.1 maxVersion =5.0.1" What do I need to do to fix it?

We downloaded firefox 5.0.1 last night, began working with it. It did fine. After about an hour, I turned off my computer. When I turned on my computer, I click on Mozilla Firefox and it won't start. I get this error message, " Error: Platform version '5.0' is not compatible with minVersion >=5.0.1 maxVersion <=5.0.1" from XUL Runner. What do I need to do to fix it?

The updater wasn't able to update all the files and some were left as older versions.<br />
    Do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Opening mozilla firefox I was asked to choose safe browser or default and I picked safe browser, but I need to return default because has all my bookmarks How?

When I started up my computer and clicked Mozilla Firefox a box popped up asking me if I wanted to use Safe Browser or default browser d14 and some more letters and numbers. I have never been asked this and thought maybe there was a problem so I decided to do safe browser. It wasn't until clicking ok that I realized there was a check in a box that said don't ask again open start up. Now I have none of my bookmarks or history and I need those things to be able to pay my bills as well as other sites that I use often, but do not remember how to get to them. I tried shutting down my computer, but now It just takes me to a page and when I try and log in to places it doesn't recognize me. Is there any way to find my previous browser? Please help!
    Thanks you,
    Lindsey

Do not use any option to rename or delete profiles.
Do not this stage use any options to restore or import bookmarks.
    #With Firefox closed <br /> Use '''WindowsKey''' + '''R''' to get a run box
    #Key in ''firefox.exe -P''
#That should offer you a choice of profiles to use. Select one, and look for your bookmarks. Make a note of the profile names, and which bookmarks set you have. (Probably one will have almost no boookmarks, and one will have all your bookmarks)
#Try each profile in turn by repeating the steps.
Post back to say if you found the lost bookmarks.

Do i absolutely need to install Mozilla Firefox on my pc to run/use MozFireFoxPortable ?
i've been trying to use MFFPortable for several days and am as confused as hell whether i'm in FF or FFPortable
FFPortable says their product is sooooooooo easy to install; they don't say it is easy to use with confidence
can i just install FFPortable on an external (thumb) drive as seems to be its intention and purpose for security reasons without any parts of MozFireFox on the computer hard drive ?
    thnx, john

You can copy the contents of your regular Firefox profile into your Firefox Portable profile folder. This way you'll have all your regular data like bookmarks, saved passwords, cookies, and so on.

You launch Firefox Portable, you type something into the address bar and press Enter, and your local version of Firefox starts? If so, that simply shouldn't happen, and I can't imagine why it does. I suggest you continue the conversation that you started over on the Firefox Portable support forum:

  • I need to apply for a student loan and I am told that the version of firfox is not supported It recommend I download an older version: Mozilla Firefox 3.5.x and 3.6.x How do I do this?

I'm told to download an older version of firefox that supports the application for federal student loan. They want me to download: Windows 7 - Mozilla Firefox 3.5.x and 3.6.x

The fafsa.gov site does not currently support Firefox newer than version 3.6.x. That is their choice.
You can install Firefox Portable version to use only on that site and use your installed current Firefox version for everything else. Firefox Portable is not produced by Mozilla (but is based on Firefox released versions) and is not supported on this site -- has its own support forum (see below). Firefox Portable installs in a separate folder on your hard drive so that it does not interfere with your currently installed Firefox version settings or personal information (bookmarks, passwords, etc.). You can also install Firefox Portable on a USB/thumb/pin/jump drive.

  • Mozilla Firefox is not starting on my computer, even though I've opened it, there is nothing on the screen except my background. Do I need to re-install?

When I open Firefox, sometimes it doesn't show up on my screen and I have to re-boot to get it show. But I've re-booted my computer '''5''' times and it hasn't show the browser or anything. The hourglass that shows that it's thinking doesn't even do anything, like it's already up, but it's not. Do I need to re-install? Or is it that Firefox isn't working today?

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

Hi,am not able to open PDF Files in Mozilla Firefox without using plugins...I need Solution

    Hello,
Please see the support article below for full information on viewing PDF in Firefox:
[[View PDF files in Firefox without downloading them]]
If you want to use Firefox's built in PDF viewer (i.e. not a plugin) then you will need to ensure that any PDF plugins are uninstalled from Firefox and that 'Preview in Firefox' is selected as the Action for PDF files (see screenshot below).
I hope that helps. Let me know if not.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
