Do I need to manually back up my iphone photos if I have auto downloads already set up in iphoto?

I'm a relatively new iPhone user. I don't take a ton of photos, but the ones I take are important to me. I've been trying to make sure that photos I take with my phone are backed up and in iPhoto. I have a few questions regarding how it all works.
1) If I take a picture with my iPhone it goes to both my camera roll and my photostream (yes, photostream is on)... is this correct?
2) My photostream is limited to 1000 photos. These photos exist on the cloud aren't necessarily saved to my computer... is this correct?
3) I have automatic downloading set up via iPhoto on my MacBook Pro. When I do this ALL photos I take are downloaded by my computer as long as I've connected it to the internet at some point recently... is this corret? If they are downloaded, are they downloaded from my photostream, or are they downloaded as they come in?
4) If I go over 1000 photos in a month in my photostream, does it save ALL of them to iPhoto or just the 1000 most current? In other words, in iPhoto I see a section labeled, for example, "May 2013 Photostream". If I took 1500 photos during that May timeframe, would they ALL be there or would only the 1000 that constituted my photostream at the time of download be in there?
5) If a photo is show in iPhoto it is permenantly downloaded to my computer's harddrive... is this correct?
6) This is the biggest one. If I have auto downloads set up between my iPhone and iPhoto, is there any reason to download photos manually? Everytime I download photos manually it says I have a bunch of duplicates. They all seem to be duplicated in my photo stream, BUT others are not duplicated and seem to download at the time of the manual operation, which makes me think that they autodownloads aren't downloading everything.
7) Do photos I edit in Snapseed or Instagram get downloaded automatically or do I have to put them somewhere for that to happen?
Sorry for the barrage of questions. This stuff is super confusing if you've never used it before. I just want to be sure I haven't lost anything and don't delete anything.

Good questions!
SInce you are having Photo Stream, you may want to backup your iPhone to iCLoud. to be on the safe side,  see:  iCloud: Backup and restore overview
1) If I take a picture with my iPhone it goes to both my camera roll and my photostream (yes, photostream is on)... is this correct?
Yes, photos you take with the iPhone will be stored in the camera roll, and the camera roll will be automatically added to iCLoud and synced to your devices.
2) My photostream is limited to 1000 photos. These photos exist on the cloud aren't necessarily saved to my computer... is this correct?
My photo stream is limited to max 1000 photos and only the last month of photos.
If you enable automatic import on your mac, these photos will be stored on your mac automatically in monthly events in iPhoto. Or you can import manually, what you are seeing in the My Photo Stream album.
See:  iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
3) I have automatic downloading set up via iPhoto on my MacBook Pro. When I do this ALL photos I take are downloaded by my computer as long as I've connected it to the internet at some point recently... is this corret? If they are downloaded, are they downloaded from my photostream, or are they downloaded as they come in?
All photos currently in iCloud will be visible in the Photo Stream, when it is enabled on your mac, and with automatic import they will be added to the monthly events, as soon as the mac syncs with iCloud.
4) If I go over 1000 photos in a month in my photostream, does it save ALL of them to iPhoto or just the 1000 most current?
When you reach 1000 photos in My Photo Stream, the oldest photos will automatically deleted, so you should sync your phone before that happens.

In other words, in iPhoto I see a section labeled, for example, "May 2013 Photostream". If I took 1500 photos during that May timeframe, would they ALL be there or would only the 1000 that constituted my photostream at the time of download be in there?
You can sync more than a 1000 photos per month, only make sure, you sync often.
5) If a photo is show in iPhoto it is permenantly downloaded to my computer's harddrive... is this correct?
It is downloaded permanently, as soon as you are seeing it in an event in iPhoto, not if it is only showing in the "My Photo Stream" album.
One good reason to download manually would be the download speed. It is just quicker, and you are not risking transmission errors. Also, you may have more photos in your camera roll than in the photo stream, because you could have deleted photos from the photo stream. The duplicates should be no problem, if you exclude them from importing.
7) Do photos I edit in Snapseed or Instagram get downloaded automatically or do I have to put them somewhere for that to happen?
I do not use these apps, so I cannot be sure, but usually you will have to save edited photos back to the camera roll, to be able to sync them, either with Photo Stream or by manual sync.

You can only update to the latest iOS which currently is iOS 5.1.1.
Connect your iPad to your computer and follow the prompts. If iTunes is not the latest version then you will be prompted to update that first. The same will then apply to your iPad. It will automatically do a backup unless you tell it otherwise and y will be prompted to restore from that backp in the latter part of the process.

Your entire second paragraph is so confusing I am going to ignore it.
But I may be able to answer your first and third paragraphs, which seem to address the same question.
I wonder where your iPhone states it was backed up yesterday.  I am going to assume that you see this under Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
If that is true, then the backup from yesterday is in iCloud.  The one and only way to restore an iCloud backup is to do this on your iPhone:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
That will cause your iPhone to begin a setup process.  As part of that process, assuming you enter the same Apple ID you used when you created the iCloud backup, you will be offered the opportunity to restore from it.

if an extension worked in Firefox 4.0, it should be working in Firefox 5.0 as well.

You can force 5.0 "compatibility" with the "[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/ Compatibility Reporter]" extension, or with [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Extensions.checkCompatibility extensions.checkCompatibility] using about:addons.
For those that really need an earlier version of Firefox [ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ releases] or for [http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older.html Firefox 3].
    * ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ releases
When reinstalling Firefox from a download, Firefox must be down once the installation starts. When the installation finishes, don't let the install start firefox for you. Instead end the install and start Firefox in your normal manner, thus preventing creating a new profile which does not have your bookmarks cookies, etc (but your old profile would still be around and would).

  • HT201250 Can I back up using Time Machine if I have some files already on the ExHD, or do I need a clean ExHD to use Time Machine?

Can I back up using Time Machine if I have some files already on the ExHD, or do I need a clean ExHD to use Time Machine?

If you try to use a new disk with time machine, it will try to reformat your EXHD. so I would save the items on your EXHD before backing up with time machine or partitioning your EXHD in disk utility

I recently did a system update and installed Yosemite on my Mac. Now I am unable to open CS5 at all. The error message I get is this: "To open Adobe Photoshop CS5.1, you need to install legacy Java SE 6 runtime." I have tried downloading this and it still gives me the same mess

In the details it is mentioned that it is an outdated version of Java.
Is this a security risk that i need to live with to get CS5 to run with Yosemite?
Also i need to reject messages from Java in the future about updates, or not?
    thx for any input

  • How do I stop iTunes from backing up my iPhone photos to Dropbox?

I have an iPhone and also have Dropbox. For some reason iTunes decided to back up the photos on my iPhone into a folder on my Dropbox without me telling it anything. How do I stop it from backing up my iPhone photos to Dropbox? The help files don't provide easy-to-find documentation and iTunes simply isn't intuitive.

    iTunes does no such thing.
The dropbox app on the device has such a feature, turn it off.

    Sorry.
The iPhone is of no use until/unless the previous owner removes it from their account.
You will need to find the prior owner or return the iPhone.

  • HT1766 I have been trying to back up my iphone it says I have 3.5 GB to 5 GB but I thought my phone had 8 GB. I got a message that it would take 8 hours and then I got a message it couldn't back up. Any one have an idea of what the problem could be?

I have been trying to back up my phone and got a message that it would take 8 hours. I let it go over night and when I looked at it in the morning I got a message my data couldn't be backed up. I though my phone had 8 GB. If I have too much data what items should I delete in order to have my data backed up? I have deleted most of my pictures so I didn't think I had that much data to back up. If any one has experienced this please advise. I think my battery is about to die and I want my data back up ASAP.

    What computer do you have?
What operating system is it running?

  • Need to authorise new laptop after old one crashed.  Have 5 computers already authorised and cannot wait until July for 12 month "Deauthorise all computers" to become available again.  How can I authorise this new laptop?

Hello... I need to authorise a new laptop after my old one completely died (before I could deauthorise it!!).  I have 5 computers already authorised and cannot wait until July for the 12 month "deauthorise all computers" option to become available again.  Does anyone know how can I authorise this new laptop as one of the 5, in place of the old one?  Any help gratefully received!

Go to one of the authorized computers and de-authorize it individually.
The one year limitation is ONLY for the de-authorize all option.

  • NEED HELP WITH BACKING UP AN IPHONE 3 TO RETRIEVE INFO FROM AN IPHONE 4 BACKUP ON ICLOUD

hi my iphone 4 and 5 were recently stolen.. i have an iphone 3 to get me outa trouble, can i back up my **** from the 4 to the 3 on icoud or is the 3 too outa date?
    current phone details...
    iphone 3 (32GB)
    model MC133X/A
    version 6.1.3(10B329)

Presumably your two stolen iPhones were running the current iOS version - iOS 7.
An iPhone 3 cannot run iOS 7.
So it cannot recover an iPhone 4 or iPhone 5 backup.

  • How to back up/import my photos when I have saved them messily?

I currently use Aperture as follows:
1.Save from memory card to file on computer called photos (each card is labelled seperatley in a sub folder)
2.Import photos I want to manage into aperture (this then makes duplicte copy of the photo in my aperture library, right?)
I use an external hardrive as an apple time machine to back all this up.
My problem is that due to having duplicate copies of the master photos (one saved in my folder structure, on in the aperture library), my harddisk is now full.
I have no list of which files I have saved into aperture and which I haven't, and I have used different names for the projects in aperture as I have used in my folder sytem.
I thought I could solve the problem by saving my masters (the ones not saved in aperture) onto the external disk, Delete the  entire aperture library, and then reimport my whole library from the external disk into Aperture.
This would free up about 300gb of space on my hard disk, as it was always a daft idea to keep two copies of the same photo on the same disk.
However, if I do this, I lose all of the adjustments I have made to the photos I have in aperture!
    Any ideas welcome.
p.s, I am living in a place where it isn't easy or cost effective to buy a bigger harddisk.

    Very first thing:
2.Import photos I want to manage into aperture (this then makes duplicte copy of the photo in my aperture library, right?)
This may or may not be true depending on how you did the import. But you need to make very sure that this is the case before you start deleting things.
There are three possibilities, one you left the masters where they were when you imported, they are then referenced masters in Aperture, two you copied the images into the Aperture library, they are managed in Aperture and still exist on the HD outside of Aperture and three you moved them into Aperture when you imported, they are managed in Aperture and no longer exist on the HD outside of Aperture.
Should you have done the last then if you delete the Aperture library the masters will be gone.

  • How can I back up my iphone 4 if I have never set it up?

I have never set up my iphone on a computer and I would like to update the operating system, but I do not want to wipe out my phone.  I have saved all of my photos but I will lose all of my contacts, apps, music, books etc.... HELP!!!!!  When I see my iphone on itunes, all it gives me as an option is "eject"

Try going into iTunes (assuming you're using the latest version 11) ..
    Click FILE
    Go down to DEVICES
    Click BACK UP
(you should see Sync, Transfer Purchases from (your) Phone, Back Up, and Restore options here under Devices)
(Even if you were on iOS 5 iCloud only gives you 5GB for free before you have to pay for more space so no iPhone will completely back up to iCloud without extra expense.)
And... if that helps... and if you want to know where the back up is saved;  check here... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946  and click the 2nd triangle to expand the section which says where all back ups are saved on different computers.
