Do not transcode

With 1.5 when I inport video that is already in mpeg2 1.5 list it as do not transcode. When I build a folder 1.5 will transcode the audio but not the video. With 2.0 I inport the same file and 2.0 says do not transcode the same as 1.5 but when I build a folder in 2.0 I get transcodeing video file. If I input a untrnascoded file into to 2.0 I will get a transcodeing the name of the file and then later I will get a transcodeing video. If I am right then 2.0 will always take longer making a project that 1.5 on both untranscoded and transcoded files.

2.0 First thing is to transcode video , the video is listed as do not transcode. I tried using transcode now for the audio and then build folder still same thing. I have over 500 projects using 1.5 and I do not get any transcode video as long as the video is listed as do not transcode. I shold have timed both projects but an exsiment would be for a 15 minute with nothing but first play 1.5 makes a folder in about 8 min and the same project in 2.0 well over 30. I like most of what I see in 2.0 but if the build time is four times slower for 2.0 the I will have to go back to 1.51. I do not think anything it set up wrong but I hope it is. When I get time I will run a watch on this and list back.

  • Encore CS4 is transcoding compliant Blu-Ray audio assets when set to 'Do not transcode'

    Hi there,
    I have a Blu-Ray concert video project consisting of 3-menus, 4-sequentially linked timelines (intro-1, intro-2, main concert timeline, and credits).
    All audio assets consist of 96k/24-bit WAV files from the same professionally rendered mastered audio source.
    Here's the issue:
    When importing my 96k/24-bit audio assets in Encore CS4, they all show as Blu-Ray compliant and maintain the 'Do not transcode' property in the assets menu.
    However, after rendering the project to Blu-Ray I immediately noticed that the main concert timeline (2-hrs 10-min) had been transcoded down to 48k/16-bit while the other smaller intro/credits timelines had rendered correctly and were playing back at the desired 96k.24-bit rate.
    In order to eliminate possible issues with the main timeline's audio file source, I created a smaller main timeline (35-min) using the exact same audio source files and lo & behold - the main timeline was not down-transcoded and is playing back at the desired 96k/24-bit rate.
    I'm wondering if there is a non-documented limitation in rendering audio files over a certain size as my main timeline is made up of 2-total WAV files of 2.2Gb each.
    I have the ability to import a single AIFF file at 4.4GB for the main timeline - but for some reason CS4 does not recognize AIFF files as Blu-Ray compliant and will show the transcode setting as 'Automatic'.
    Imported AIFF files always showed as 'Do not transcode' in the Blu-Ray assets menu in Encore CS3 (even though there is a documented bug which prevents rendering AIFF audio to Blu-Ray and I would have to convert to WAV files and re-import anyway in CS3).
    My next step is to try splitting the main timeline into shorter chunks, but this is not the direction I want to go in.

    Ok, solved my own problem - solution below for those with similar issues.
    1. My audio timelines exported from Final Cut Pro as AIFF are actually 'AIFC' which is technically not Blu-Ray compliant, thus Encore will need to transcode. Unfortunately - Encore has no quality preset settings for dealing with PCM audio transcodes higher than 48k/16-bit (why not?). Encore CS4 will happily pass 96k/24-bit through to a Blu-Ray build without transcoding if the supplied file is true AIFF (not-AIFC) and/or similarly compliant WAV files.
    2. My main Encore timeline consisted of 2-WAV files at 2.2Gb each placed in a single Encore timeline due to the total audio being over 4GB thus requiring me to split the source audio files in half in order to stay under the 4GB limit for WAV files, and also because I had to export the FCP audio timeline using Compressor in order to generate Blu-Ray compliant audio files (non-AIFC). Also - (possible bug?) if Encore has 2-separate audio files in the same timeline it will transcode the audio to the current project's default audio settings (48k/16-bit in my case) - even though the assets are showing as 'Do not transcode' in the asset menu for Blu-Ray. It clearly states in the Encore CS4 manual that imported WAV files at 96k/24-bit will not be transcoded - but it appears in this case when 2-audio files are placed in the same timeline that it will transcode with no warning - bothersome to say the least.
    I suppose the alternative is to work with a lossless audio format which supports files larger than 4GB - which would only require a single audio file for a single Encore timeline, but other than DTS Master Audio (not available on this project) I'm not sure what audio format would work in Encore to support 96k/24-bit audio files larger than 4GB.
    If anyone knows - drop some knowledge!

  • Encore changes lower filed to upper in dvd header when working with m2p assetand not transcoding

    i have full compatible m2p and audio files that doesn't need transcoding. i like to make subtitles by importing text script with encore 1.5. the problem is:
    my m2p file is lower filed and even if encore doesn't encode the original m2p file (not trnascode) the output video seems to have upper field tag in dvd header. since it is not re-encoded (i know it for sure, also authoring is done very quick) the video is still lower field but encore marks it as if it was upper field. so the dvd player tries to play lower field video as if it were upper filed and i see interlacing problem on the video.
    even i don't re-encode the video i tried to check the field dominance in pre-rendering options and it is set lower field also.
    while making a new project encore doesn't ask you whether your project is lower or upper field. and there is no menu i can adjust it_ so what encore renders is soft subtitle picture files.
    i think the problem is just that encore write as default upper field to the header for not transcoded videos. if this is the case it is a BIG bug. does anyone know a soluiton

    I used the standard export definitions from Premiere CS5.5 (windows media / download the pal-widescreen source for high quality = 720x576 pixel, codec Windows Media Video 9, 25 fps, pixel D1/DV Pal widescreen 16:9) for instance.
    But it doesn´t matter which template I use, all other versions (from HDTV 1080p to HDTV 720p) had the same result.
    Avis make no problems, but as soon as I choose the files, Premiere exported as wmv, Encore cuts off the upper half... :-(
    I understand how video formats work, but I don´t have any idea why Encore is unable to import the full picture...
    I also checked if there are any updates available, but the updater declared all installed versions as up to date...
    By the way, Ahead Nero Vision has no problems with the import, but since I own Encore, I would prefer to use the Adobe software.

  • Not transcoded but altered - Why?

    Hi everyone, I'm having some big problems trying to build a project meant to be deployable to a media player.
    I won't pretend to claim I understand the standards involved that well but I don't think I have crossed the boundaries (at least not
    too far).
    The aim is to take a considerable amount of HD footage (upto 20 hours) into a navigated video. By that I mean the footage has
    various sections which the viewer should be able to randomly navigate to but otherwise the video plays as a continuous stream. My
    idea was to use blu-ray menus but not with a blu-ray disc. A few media players are blu-ray menu compatible and are able to play from
    blu-ray format folders or ISO's where the navigation works as if it were a blu-ray disc in a blu-ray player.
    The source footage is from an AVCHD camera (Canon).
    To do all of this I am using Encore 5.1 (as per CS5.5). Encore now allows AVCHD video to be passed through without transcoding.
    All of this seems to work except Encore is doing something I don't quite understand which is ruining the result.
    Encore will of course have to render the menus etc. but it should just pass through the orginal AVCHD footage. But what seems to be
    happening is that the footage is altered. The video seems to be untouched visually but it's attibutes don't make sense and the audio
    is redone and the container timing is totally wrong.
    You can see what I mean if you look at the exports from MediaInfo pasted below. I have tried to change quality presets and so on,
    but it makes no difference. Maybe I am doing this all wrong and need some pointers if someone knows how to do this.
    The first export is from a scene as it has come from the camera. The second is the same clip after Encore has created the blu-ray
    folders. As far as I know the camera AVCHD clip should be blu-ray H.264 compliant and in theory transfer unaltered.
    For the container timing, notice that out of the camera it is 06:12. But out of Encore it has changed to 07:39. If you look at the
    video both are still at 06:12 but the audio out of Encore is now 07:39. Near the end of the clip, the video freezes but the audio
    runs on, so it seems to have lost sync. For some reason, while the max bit rate for the video is the same the average rate is now
    only 12.6 whereas the orginal was 15.5. The bits/px and stream size have also dropped but no render took place (or my computer has
    suddenly gone into turbo mode) which sounds like bits were just dropped out. Also, for the audio, the orginal was Dolby AC-3 but at
    256Kbps. For some reason it is longer but the bit rate has dropped to only 192Kbps.
    This is happening to every single clip.
    What have I missed here?

    The one labeled leader is a first play.
    The one labeled mainline is the one with back to back video.
    With reference to Stan's suggestion this does indeed seem to fix the problem.
    The videos are still altered but only by a few bytes example original: 107106, after encore: 107232. The timing is also changed by only by a few milliseconds.For this short example you can't tell the difference.
    The audio is also back to 256Kbps AC-3 which is what the source is which is great!
    I was not expecting this to happen. It makes things a bit more difficult since I would need to use volumes of timelines or a better alternative is to join the clips before import. Fortunately TXmuxeR does a good job of this but I would have to write some scripts to generate the muxing config - it's too hard to do manually for more than a handful of clips but not too hard to do with a bit of Perl or Python.
    However, I was heading down this path anyway since my final project could have hundreds of clips and the more you put the longer En takes to startup so I'm not too fussed about doing the scripting. I was perhaps hoping En would handle this for me - Obviously not.
    I am still confused though. Firstly why is En still touching the clips at all? Second, it seems strange that a timeline is so restrictive in what can be put into it. Are you saying not to combine anything into a timeline or just don't combine clips or don't combine muxed clips?

  • Cisco TelePresence Content Server not transcoding

    Recently I discovered that the transcoding engine is not responding in my Cisco TelePresence Content Server.  I have tried to restart the windows service and the whole machine with no luck.  It will record but not create any outputs that are viewable.  I do not have maintenance on this so I decided to post here to get some help.

    They all appear to be online.

  • FCP X not transcoding on import.

    Even though I have the proper preferences set, no optimized media is being created. After looking at the drive where the files should be created, I am getting alias. What is going on?

    I know you say that you have your preferences set correctly, but have you checked 'Copy files to Final Cut Events folder' in the 'Import' tab of Preferences?
    If this option is not selected, then only references (aliases) to the original media are added to the Events folder.

  • Encore CS6 not possible to avoid transcoding

    Why does encore CS6 transcode some H.264 streams and some not? They are different sequences exported from the same project with the same settings out of premiere CS6. The parameters of all streams equal the settings in encore. But for some it is not possible to change the setting in encore to not transcode.

    Yes, I used H.264 Bluray 1440x1080 anamorph. I guess Encore ignored the anamorph flag for some files and transcoded them a second time to 1440x1080 - the result is a visible frame with a distorted 4:3 aspect ratio. I have found a resolution. I replaced the transcoded files in the encore transcode folder with copies of the original files and renamed them like the transcoded files: "original filename"_sessionFiles_Asf_session_1_video.m4v
    Perhaps its possible to avoid transcoding by simply placing renamed copies (in that name system above) of the original files in the transcode folder. I will try it in the future.

  • Error while rendering: Export file not found - what to do?

    Hi,
    I have been editing my video in four different premiere pro projects (as I got adviced to do from these forums because it's AVCHD clips). I have rendered these four projects and burned to four DVD's (total playtime is around 1.5hours) - which is working fine.
    But then I try to import all four projects into one big master project because I want to make a blu-ray iso. The import goes fine (I import like this: File > Import > Choose project > Import entire project)
    I export to encore, make the menus etc. and click "build" to start rendering. The problem is that after some time I get this error:
    Blu-ray Object: "sequence-name-here/project-name-here.prproj", Export file not found
    I have seen this error before while rendering some of the four individual projects - but when I saw them I simply just tried again by exporting to encore from the projects again. This seemed to work - but with the big master project I have tried several times with no luck.
    Can anyone help me fix this issue? :)

    Yes, I got this too:
    For posterity, here is what I have found that completely fixes this error, repeatedly:  Clear Encore's cache.  Specifically:
    Close your Encore project and exit Encore
    Go to the cache subdirectory named for your project (ie. if your save file is c:\projects\mymovie.ncor then go to c:\projects\mymovie\cache)
    Delete the file "mlf.cache.v10"
    If your Encore project contains any Premiere Pro dynamically-linked assets, start Premiere Pro and load at least one of the projects used in Encore.  (I have found that this reduces memory usage -- for some reason, Premiere Pro takes up less memory than if Encore spawns the PProHeadless.exe media server to serve the same function)
    Restart Encore and load your project
    ...and wait, patiently, for Encore to re-scan all of your assets and build up the cache again and don't touch it until it's finished.  I use Process Explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653) to watch my disk activity and CPU to know when Encore is finished (just hover on the cyan-colored graph and you can see what program is performing the most disk activity).  Once it's all finished, I save, then immediately try to build my project again.  For proof of concept, my 40GB BD-50 project just built last night after getting this error yesterday afternoon.
    If any of your assets are not transcoded before you begin this process, transcode them all, then start this process over again from step one.  Clearing the cache does not clear the transcodes.
    I hope this helps someone.  I was not looking forward to completely re-authoring my project, which I've been working on (on and off) for a few months.

  • New Mac Pro 8-core / D700 not much faster than an iMac... in PPro CC.

    So.... my very preliminary testing with our new Mac Pro using the plugin I use most (filmconvert -FC) anyway, shows that Premiere CC needs more optimization for the dual GPUs. In fact, I'd say the CPU utilization is not up to snuff either.
    I know FC only uses one GPU presently from the developer. That will change. In the meantime, using a couple of typical projects with that plugin as an example, I'm only seeing 25-45% speed up in renders over our maxed out iMac (late 2012, 27") exporting the same project. That's significant of course but not the 100%+ one would think we would be seeing at the least given the MacPro config of 8 cores and dual D700s. Premiere Pro CC seems in fact to never maximize CPU (never mind GPUs). I have yet, in my very limited testing, see it "pin the meters" like I did on the iMac.
    Of course that's just testing now two short (under 5 min) projects, and it depends on what one is doing. Some stuff is much, much faster like Red Giant's Denoiser II or Warp Stabilizer VFX. The improvement there can be 3-4x faster anecdotally.  I used to avoid them for speed reasons unless absolutely needed a lot of the time but now they are fast enough to rely on quickly. Other stuff unrelated top PPro CC like DxO PRIME noise removal on RAW stills is much faster too, as is Photoshop CC.  Some effects like blur, sharpening, resize there are nearly instant now even on giga pixel files in Photoshop CC.
    And of course FCPX is much faster on it but I hate the whole editing paradigm. The timeline is just horrid on it; simple things like replacing a word in someone's dialogue is a multi click, multistep process that is nearly instant in Premiere and most every other NLE. Just to try to see your whole timeline is a chore, to see what your edits and sound are in detail are problematic, trying to keep things in sync is a chore, and you can't even zoom your timeline window to full screen! If anybody has edited for any amount of time, I do not understand how they use FCP X. If they start with that program, for example if they are young, then that is a different beast.
    I'm sure Adobe will improve over time. They have to to stay competitive. In the meantime I'll take my 45%... but I wish I saw much more improvement given the cost and hardware differential. Unfortiunately, for now, the mainstream reviews I have seen regarding PPro performance on this machine were right.

    I just tested 5K Red raw files just dragged into Premiere Pro CC (latest version). I expected this to be slow, given my HD experience. However, on my 8 core/D700, I can play 1/2 just fine, full speed. And I even can also do that with a very streneous plugin/filter attached - FilmConvert (in OpenCL mode), also at 1/2 which is quite impressive. I can even add a bunch of other Premiere filters and SG looks and it still stays at full speed at 1/2.
    Ironically, this is quite faster than FCPX which can't seem to play back 5K at all with that filter attached (it doesn't stutter, but it's not smooth... low resolution at "best performace" and reduced frame rate). Even if I remove all filters FCPX plays back Red 4k (again not transcoded) about the same as CC at 1/2, but with a seemingly lower resolution to keep it smooth.  It's a head scratcher. It's like Adobe's Red handling is much better coded than Apple's in this case.
    Or... it has to be attrituable to that particular plugin (other FCPX motion-based plugins don't suffer the same fate and are fast). But either way, filter or no, Premiere Pro CC is definitely and sharper looking at 1/2 when cutting Red 4k/5k with no transcode, playback in real time, than FCPX which needs to bump it down to what looks like a 1/4 or less rez to keep it smooth. So I have no idea what is going on.
    This experience is the opposite with HD, where FCPX is significantly faster (using the same filters/plugin, using C300 Canon XF for HD and 4 and 5K RedRaw alternatively).  Premiere seems slower in HD than FCPX by a good amount in HD and signficantly faster with Redraw 4k. Go figure.

  • Quicktime X - Save As "Movie" - Is it transcoding free?

    I tried searching the forums, but were unable to come to a conclusive answer...
    Background:
    I have a bunch of (very long) video clips. Some of them are .avi clips from my old DV video camera, other are just long clips from my new digital camera, and some of them are from my iPhone.
    I'd like to "trim" these into more manageable sizes, some of them are GBs in size....
    Quicktime X "trim" feature is excellent for doing this, and i can then choose "Save As" and select "Movie" to "Save a movie file that contains media in the same format as the original movie.".
    However, what i am wondering is:
    __Does Quicktime X transcode the video during the process, or is it completely "passthrough"/"lossless"__ (i.e. It doesn't decode/encode the frames, it simple copies the old frames in the new file).
    I understand the the first few frames/last few frames will require lossy "encode/decode" due to the nature of many video formats, but i'm curious how Quicktime X handles the rest of the frames.

    No, the "Save As... Movie" option does not transcode the content. It merely copies the range of designated frames from its current file container to an MOV file container.

  • New Mac Pro & PP CC 2014 "Not Responding" when exporting....

    OK, this is a weird issue.
    Short Version:
    Project exports fine on PC
    Premiere Pro CC 2014 stops responding on new Mac Pro just after clicking "Queue"
    Premiere Pro CC 2014 renders the sequence fine when I click on "Export"
    Details:
    I have a week old 4 core, 12 Gig ram,  Mac Pro running OSX 10.9.4 with the latest CC 2014 installed 1 week ago.
    I have a  sequence (the content) with Lumetri, Ultra Key, Track Matte and Lumetri (warm). This sequence is nested into an other sequence (holds the watermark titles and branding)
    The project exports and renders fine on my 5 year old i7 pc.
    However on my new MacPro every time I go to export that sequence by clicking on "Queue" AME CC 2014 starts and Premiere locks up. Activity monitor show Premiere as "Not Responding"
    I force quit Premiere to exit.
    I don't have this issue with other video projects. I have disabled OpenCL in Premiere and AME with no different outcome.
    I can export the nested sequence by it self with out any issues. If I remove the nested sequence, the main sequence exports just fine.
    I have also checked and repaired disk permissions - no difference.
    However, If I click on "Export" in Premiere it starts to render and Premiere Pro does not lock up.
    It looks like an issue with PP handing off to AME.
    How can I troubleshoot this? I need to queue up 200+ videos to render in the next month....

    This experience is the opposite with HD, where FCPX is significantly faster (using the same filters/plugin, using C300 Canon XF for HD and 4 and 5K RedRaw alternatively).  Premiere seems slower in HD than FCPX by a good amount in HD and signficantly faster with Redraw 4k. Go figure.

  • Poor DVD Video Quality - Transcoding pain

    I am working on a video project with the NTSC DVD as the deliverable.  The project is realtively simple.  It contains one mpeg2 video file, an adio track and a few menues.  It is all ok except for the horrible DVD quality I am getting from Encore SC4.  The original mpeg2 video quality is very good.  This mpeg2 video file was generated using the Proshow Producer program with NTSC DVD setting as output.  Here is what mediainfo has to say about this file:

    My first problem is why Encore insists on transcoding the video.  I do not see any reason why not to use the video as is.  The "Do not transcode" option is not available.  Perhaps I have some settings in the project that may be incompatible with the DVD video but I realy do not know what they could be.  Please help if you think you know what it could be.
    With automatic transcoding the resulting video quality is plain horrible.  I keep blinking my eyes because everything is so badly out of focus.  I keep trying to specify the transcoding quality to as high as Encore allows me but the resulting video stays at very poor quality.  I am not very expierence with the transcoding function of Encore but what I am getting "out of the box" is garbage so I hope you, more expierenced gentlemen, could help me squeese more from this S/W.

    In Proshow Producer there are two ways (two different menue options) to generated an mpeg2 DVD quality file.  One of them gave me a file described by mediainfo in my original email - encore insisted on transcoding it.
    The other way of generaring a DVD  mpeg2 file renders a file as below:

    The problem is that Proshow Producer crashes (runs out of memory) while generating this file - this is why it is only  30 seconds long.  Now this file does not require transcoding in Encore CS4 and, if it did not crash, would be of acceptable quality. 
    I do not know what the M/N settings describe but the M/N settings are different in the second file.  Some other settings are different as well, e.g., Bit/(Pixel*Frame).
    From what I know and from what Photodex support person told me they do not have a way to generate an .m2v file.  I can generate an mpeg2 with no audio from Producer but the video encoding would be as it is now I would think so I am not sure what difference (if any) this would make.

  • Export without "transcoding"? (h264 Eos .mov files)

    Hy!
    My question is: Is it possible to export from the original footage without transcoding bits that dont need to?
    I am using a Canon Eos 550d which produces h264 .mov files with 49mbit/sec. As I believe mercury-playback-engine acts as a frameserver to the editing program of CS5 and serves only I-frames to Premiere. Mercury decodes the files and plays them back, and btw it doesnt report the proper clip properties - My Canon Eos 550d .mov footage (sequence setting: preset: digital slr - dslr 1080p25) shows up as "Type: MPEG Movie" when I choose right-click-Properties. But I assume that internally the footage is not transcoded to mpeg but just decoded by mercury and played back, so Premiere only gets I-frames to handle.
    So the question at this point is: What is the source of footage that the export module uses? Does the export module rely on mercury and is feeded only i-frames (aka decoded footage), so that transcoding has to be done, as not to transcode at this point would mean to save uncompressed 25p-full-size-frames one after the other? Or is the export module taking the source file and re-encoding (I understand that there is no "transcoding" with h264, or at the time beeing not yet..) it (because then, as I understand, it would be possible to save parts of sequences withour re-rendering them)?
    So, if it is possible, how to tell the export module not to re-encode the bits that dont need re-rendering (all parts that are not near any cuts or effects)- which settings are to be taken, or is there an automatism?

    You are looking for "Smart Rendering." PrPro does not offer that. Not sure which NLE program you will need, but I think that at least one version of Sony's Vegas offers that. Google/Bing "smart rendering," and you should get a list of NLE's, that support it.
    Now, there can be major issues, as one is going from a GOP format, to a GOP format. Might, or might not, come out right.

  • How do I stop Flash assets being transcoded?

    Now that there's no DL between Premiere CC and Encore CS6 how do I get Flash assets into Encore without them being retranscoded?
    I can get Encore to not transcode DVD and Blu-ray assets that I've created and exported from Premiere, but not Flash ones.
    Obviously I don't want to recompress a compressed F4V file.
    If there's no way of telling Encore not to transcode it, what's the best format for exporting 1280 x 720 assets from Premiere CC that originated in a 1920x1080i sequence?

    Hi Stan,
    I've tried my best to see if I can get Encore not to transcode a flash file, but I think that, since there's no flash preset (unlike the DVD and Blu-ray presets), I just can't fool it.
    However, here's my workaround: I output the flash file any old way: using the DVD or Blu-ray assets, whatever. And then in the output directory it creates I can replace its created assets (in the sources folder) with my own simply by renaming and replacing my own encoded assets with the ones Encore created for me. There's a visible quality improvement doing it this way, and no unnecessary re-encoding.
    Of course this is all a bit old-hat anyhow as we'll be doing it the HTML5 way with some Edge program or another any minute now! But for the moment....

  • Simple Automated batch video transcoding

    Hi,
    I am very new to FCS, all I want to do is have it scan my S3 mounted drive on my desktop, if there is content present grab that video and transcode it to MPEG4-webcasting, then place it into another S3 mounted drive (using expand drive to mount S3 to desktop). I have tried creating all my devices and scans/automations etc, I get errors saying "Failed to read media" then I try it in a folder it works and gets video but does not transcode it and place it anywhere... Please help me automate a simple video transcode.

    Scans are for adding assets incrementally, not so much for simple transcoding (though they can be made to trigger transcodes of the assets that are scanned). What you want to do is set up watch folders for each type of transcode or destination. Then for each watcher, make a Copy response that transcodes to the format and destination. You will need to make each transcode setting you wish to use active for the destination devices you wish to send encoded files to. Add a Delete response to the Watcher stacks if you want to remove a file after it has been transcoded.
