I need to do Format checking (like Arial Font, Bold etc) for set of Excel files in a Folder. Do we have any tool for that?

Hi Kiran,
As far as I know, Microsoft doesn't provide such kind of tools. But If you're familiar with Excel development, you can create your own VBA code or other kind of application(e.g. .Net application) to automate the Excel workbooks in the folder. Use the VBA
code or applications to access the Excel object model to check the cell format.
For example, use this vba code to check if cell A1 is bold:
Sheet1.Range("A1").Font.Bold

Choose a set number of files in a folder?

Is there a way using AppleScript to choose a set number of files inside a folder?
I've created an Automator workflow to convert some files (Illustrator to PDF) but the folders contain a large number of files (nearly 500). If I ran the workflow on this amount of files I'm pretty sure it would crash, as the workflow opens the files & then saves them in the other format (so it would open all 500 files).
So what the workflow does at the moment is ask me to choose the files to convert, I select around 50 & let it convert them & closes the files. It loops, so once it's completed them I it asks again to choose more files to convert etc...
If I could make it choose a set number of files (via some AppleScript & add this to the workflow) it could open & convert (for example) 50 files, then open & convert the next files. And keep doing this until it completes converting all of them.

After the files have been converted they are moved to another folder so that I don't choose them again & again, & so that I know they've been converted.
So if I used the Trim Input Items action it would choose only 9 items, convert them & then (with the workflow looping) convert another 9 files, & so on & so on. Is that correct? If so that could work for me.
The Dispense Items Incrementally action could also work for me. If I understand correctly it would convert 1 file at a time & I'd set to loop so it goes through all the items 1 at a time.

From your description it sounds like you want to process them all anyway, it's just that your existing (manual-select) workflow works by selecting a few at a time.
What's wrong with the script identifying all files and processing them all in one loop?
Because my workflow (at the moment) opens all the files at once, & then converts them. So it would open nearly 500 Illustrator files in one go rather then opening a few of them, or opening them 1 at a time. I'm pretty sure it would choke my system opening up 500 files (not particularly small files either).

How to show the checked-out symbol in list of files in a folder

Hi,
When the folder is selected it is showing all the files in that folder. But, the user would not know which file had been checked out. In general it should show the lock symbol (As similar to Documentum, webtop) when a file had been checked out by some other user.
How to show the lock/key column in list of files. Any other way to find a file had been checked out or not instead of going into the content information.
Also, how do we add additional columns like author etc... to the list of files screen in UCM?

You should double check, but I don't believe that the check-out info is in the resultset. Because that information isn't available, the state of each row in the search results table cannot be defined. So, the first hurdle would be to add that info to the dataset.
The second hurdle would be to alter the UI to leverage that info (e.g., the key icon when checked out).
If you're looking to alter the folder views, then look to the COLLECTION_DISPLAY service & related template. Other views (e.g., search results) have different templates and backing services.

Format check for each column in csv file

i want to find out how to check each column value is correct or not while uploading flat file(csv).
after uploading to internal table,
it should display error record and line no of the record.
ex matnr(18) type c,
werks(4) type c.
if we input matnr value more than 18 characters in csv file,
the entire record of internal table should be displayed in log file.
it should validate before sap database validations.

Since the file format is csv, while uplaoding the data to the program using the function module, the importing FILE FORMAT is 'ASC' and not 'DAT'.
For this the Internal table should contain only one filed of type C length (255 or 1024, upto you).
Then after this using SPLIT command you will push into another Internal table.
This is where you have to perform the validations.
In my opinion instead of checking the number of characters, chcek whether the material or plant exists in SAP or not?
This is because you have already fixed the filed length of material to 18 charecters, obvious when you try to move a variable with more than 18 charecters to this filed, it will automatically truncate and take only 18 charecters..

I do not have a "launch in touch" setting in the file menu, where is it?

Hello, I just downloaded Firefox 28.0 Beta and I do not have a touch setting option in the file menu. I am using Windows 8.1 on an Acer R7-571. I have the new orange tile on my home screen but it takes me to desktop mode. I cannot see any difference between this an the new touch beta images posted on the Firefox website. Do I need to do something else or is something wrong? Thanks.

So Firefox on Windows 8 remembers the last environment the browser lives. You clicked on the orange button and it launched in classic mode. If you opened Firefox in classic last time, next time it should launch in classic again.
To switch from classic to metro UI, the user need to open orange Firefox menu and select "Relaunch in Windows 8 Touch mode".

Am trying to transfer iTunes library to an external disk for back-up purposes. have followed normal protocol i.e. locating iTunes file in Music folder and dragging across to external disk icon. However, nothing seems to happen. Any advice please?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The external drive must be formatted in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", exFAT or FAT32, because OS X can't write in NTFS partitions by default.
As you just want the library on the external drive to make a backup of your library, you can format it in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" by using Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html (Note that you won't be able to use the external drive with PCs unless you install a special application in them).
Finally, drag your iTunes folder to your external drive

I'm currently using POI Utility to read and write Excel files.
You normally use the HasHeaderRow = true / false to specify whether the file has a header or not.
Now, let's say I have a program that needs to read Excel files from a directory, some have headers, some don't.
Is there a way to know dynamically whether a header has been defined or not?
Then, for those having headers, the flag will be set as true, while for those which don't have any header, the flag will be set as false.
E.g.

How would you read the Excel file to check whether the 1st row is the header?

Distinguishing between CSV and Excel file formats

I am trying to distinguish between CSV and Excel files. Most of the files I need to process are CSV, but some have been opened and re-saved in Excel format. I know about the Excel toolbox available, but haven't used it yet.
I need to be able to open a spreadsheet file regardless of if it is in CSV or Excel format. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here are two example files, one CSV and one Excel. Both have .XLS file extensions.

I think the matter is not the extention (xls or csv or whatever) but the format of the data written in your file.
To see what I mean, open the xls file you posted with notepad... What does it look like ?
You have tobe sure of the format of the file you want to read so that you can develop an appropriate VI... if you want to be able to read different type of data format, do a test before reading the file and then use an appropriate routine for each format.

BTW, to read the one named CSV, a simple "read from spreadsheet file" VI will do the job

Help setting up a File Server

I have a few questions about setting up a file server with Mac OS X 10.5 Server.
I have set up a sub domain name for the server to use... I just don't know how to get the dynamic IP address to contact the domain name so can ftp to the server... Mac Server is very new to me and I have know Idea on how to set it up...
FYI we plan to run the file server on a G5 Mac Pro, With a dynamic IP.

You will not find this an easy setup to achieve.. the TC is not accessible remotely with BTMM unless it is the main router in the network.. and this is not possible when the Uverse is installed as the main router.
The other method is to open AFP to outside access.. read the Tesserax methods here.
AirPort Disk - Remote Access (3 Methods)
The last method can be adjusted for using any brand router.. you do not need to port translate.. simply open port 548 to TC bridged behind the Uverse. It must be static IP so set that on the Uverse. And you will likely need to use ddns which is also built into the uverse.

Issue after downloading excel file: SYLK format

Hi experts,
I have downloaded an excel file through 'GUI_DOWNLOAD'.
When I open the file, I get a pop up message which says:
"Excel has detected that mg.xls is a SYLK file, but cannot load it. Either the file has error, or it is not a SYLK file format.
Click OK to try to open the file in a different format."
mg.xls is the excel file name.
When I click OK, the the file opens in a proper XLS format.
But I am not sure why is this pop up message coming.

Photoshop plugin/script to have it read and create a new file from an excel file?

I do prepress and cover design for our book manufacturing company. I have made a tool that I input book specs into and it tells me the exact size of the photoshop document I need to create for an accurate book cover layout. It calculates total width, height, spine placement and spine width, bleeds, and even where to place the adobe guides in the document.
I've always book toggling back and forth on my mac to get the measurements etc while I am designing a cover. What I want to know is if there is a way this can all be automated.
I know photoshop supports scripting and plugins but I have not found anything remotely along the lines of what I am looking for. If I could get this process automated somehow my workflow and productivity would shoot through the roof!
In short I am looking for a script/plugin for Adobe photoshop CS3 that can read from an excel sheet and create a new document based on the specifications in that excel file.
Does anyone know if this is already out there? Or if it can be done? I would certainly invest in this.

It's something that is very easy to do using applescript (scripting excel through excel applescript dictionary, i have used it for a projet, found it usefull for the scenario i was working with, but it was incredibly slow.. same thing in Realbasic when driving application through automation.
Depending on the number of record that need to be processed (if you dont have to fetch data in different tabs) it's often better to have a "pre-process" to save the excel file as a CSV and using any other solution to process the text file. Can make a HUGE difference in processing time...
You will surely be able to find a professional to help you with this task if you willing to pay for custom developpement.

If you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the left-hand sidebar on it via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC - when connected (and if your computer's iTunes is up-to-date) your iPad should then appear on that sidebar under a 'Devices' heading :
If you select the iPad on that sidebar you can then use the Movies tab on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and sync that film to your iPad's Videos app.
