Do you hate OVI SUITE like me?

Hi All
I find PC Suite much easier to use than the new obligatory ovi suite.
After owning N97, I had to use the OVI SUITE instead the user friendly PC Suite which was working fine with my older phone N95.
Ovi Suite is very slow at startup, not user friendly, bad and repelling interface and difficult to understand.
I really wish I could still use PC Suite with my N97.
I like my N97 after installing the new firmware.

Hate ovi.  It's trying too hard.  There wasn't much wrong with PC Suite, although even that seemed bloated to me..
What happened to small, customisable and stable as a software design philosophy?  Most people want a device-to-PC sync tool, and not the bloated flashy rubbish that Ovi suite seems to be.  Let the user choose the type of files and folders on both systems you want to sync and have some scheduling options.  Leave all the other rubbish out.  If it looks like a filesystem in two windows - they're on the right track.
Why does ovi need to add my 20GB of songs to it's "collection" first?  Isn't my primary "collection" in filesystem folders on my PC already?  And why this push to sync with OVI online?  I back up my pc so why have a separate account with ovi?  Who uses that?  Nokia need to take a serious look at themselves if they think ovi is a step forward.
While I'm here, can I ask what happened to the ability to sync my emails with Outlook?  I could do it with PC but apparently not with Ovi suite.  That seems to have disappeared.  And if it is there but hidden in menus somewhere that just points to rubbish programming.
Syncing and being able to get it to do exactly what you want is a really big thing for my choice of phone.  If nokia insists on this same Ovi design 'philosophy' in future, well I just can't see myself buying another one.

  • Do you need OVi suite or can you use the PC update...

Sorry if this is a daft question but I am not 100% sure what these various bits of software do.
I used the Ovi suite to install the free maps on my E72 which work great but the software itself is very poorly written, too many bugs and problems so i would like to uninstall it and use the PC suite instead.
Question is can I now update my phone using the PC suite with it's updater software or do I have to now rely on the Ovi suite.
The reason I ask instead of having two pieces of software is i want to a Vista/XP (two machines) clean install followed by a Ghost DVD so the smaller image the better (plus i dont like to have **bleep** installed on my machine:-)

Thank you for contacting the Nokia Careline.
We understand that you are having issues with Ovi Suite application and you are looking for 2.2 version.
At this point, we do not have any information for the release date of Ovi Suite 2.2 version. If you are having issues with Ovi Suite, you still have the option to use PC Suite application. You need to uninstall the Ovi Suite application and install PC Suite to your computer.
Please refer to the link provided below to download the PC Suite application.

  • OVI SUITE - DOESN'T LIKE MY COMPUTERS RESOLUTION S...

Last update I downloaded for Ovi Suite has prevented me from using it. Basically home screen is too large for my monitor display. If I go to control panel and alter my screen resolution then re adjust it back to the highest my monitor can handle Ovi Suite works ok - for that computer session. However, after power down - then up problem returns. Ovi Suite home page is too tall for my monitor meaning many functions are off screen so I cant click on them. Anyone got any suggestions cause I'm baffled by this one, never had anything like it before!

If you set Ovi Suite to full screen, does your computer not remember that setting? It should make Ovi Suite fit to screen.

  • Ovi Suite Crashes When Connecting Phone: How to re...

Ovi locks up a minute or two after connecting the phone, always.
Cannot do a backup.  Cannot do Outlook synchronization.
Initially it worked for a while.
How do you reset synchronization to start over?
What Ovi Suite files do you delete on the phone to do a synchronization reset?
To use maps properly, you need Ovi Suite.
    Configuration Details:
    XP SP3, 1GB of memory
    Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Model: 5800d-1b RM-428
    Ovi Suite Now Uninstalled: V2.2.0.241
PC Connectivity Solution Now Uninstalled: 10.24.0.0
With Firmware: V40.2.005 was able to download maps.
After updating to firmware to:  V50.2.005 phone connection crashes began.
    Phone itself is working ok.
    My solution:
Remove Ovi Suite & all traces of Nokia on PC.
    Install PC Suite.
    Now sync'ing works fine.
    Notes:
    * All other devices work fine on same USB connection.
    * Rebooting makes no difference.

  • Sync report from Nokia Ovi Suite

    Hi!
Can I get a sync report after sync with Ovi Suite like in PC Suite?

I have just "upgraded" to ovi Suite for my N97 mini, after being prompted by PC Suite to do so, and at the moment wish I had read this forum first and frankly wish I had not!
I am very surprised by how many good features of the old PC Suite have been dropped in ovi suite. PC Suite had years of experience behind it, was that all thrown away before starting with ovi Suite.
    - I have seen Nokia saying that video transfer/conversion will be a future feature and asking what video formats are needed. Well PC Suite already offered this feature. Why was this functionality at least moved over.
    - I have heard of serious sync issues with Calendar and Outlook. Too early to see if these affect me. if they do this will force me to move back to PC Suite.
    - On to the specifics of this thread (sorry for the OT-ish rant). Why not start with what PC Suite offered!
    - It told you exactly what had been transferred - from where and to where
    - It told you explicitly if records had been deleted, added, modified or needed conflict resolution
All this info is vital IMO (presumably why PC Suite offered it!). I do not want to get any more specific on what is needed the comprehensive info in PC Suite is all good and needed.
The new look of ovi Suite is nice, but it is completely useless if it involves throwing away a huge chunk of PC Suite functionality.

  • Can't update nokia e72 via ovi suite

So there is "maps data update application" on available updates list. I connect my device via USB, push the "next" button on the updates screen and it says that my sim card is missing when its not. It also says "please change the USB mode on your device to PC suite mode" on the bottom left corner, where the phone pic is, but im already using PC suite mode. Restarted the phone, made sure I'm using General profile - nothing helps. Any ideas whats wrong?

well i have updated my maps and my maps data via ovi suite numerous times, ovi suite is pcsuite+NSU+Maps updater+map loader, its an all in one and if you are using an updated version of maps, it will show you a prompt to update in the software update tab, so basically it does update ur maps version too but in this case i don't really know what the problem is, might be an OS conflict or might be a firmware error too. I recommend that you run ovi suite using adminstrator privileges on vista/7,right click on the program icon and then selct run as adminstrator, diable any antivirus program that you are using and ten try updating using ovi suite. If this doesnt work then please soft reset ur phone using the phone *#7370#, this should fix most firmware glitches, please backup all data on phone memory before performing a soft reset, these steps should fix all problems that you've mentioned.

  • Calender in Ovi suite?

New with Ovi Suite and wondering, why on earth I cant see and manage my calender in the Ovi suite like I could with PC suite. Just got a new phone C3-01 and this Ovi life sucks! Terrible jungle and why?! Just useless.

This has been already reported- suggested at Nokia Beta Labs site here ... Add your comments / suggestions there for more effectiveness. This being an User-to-User forum, here this may not bear the waightage it deserves....

  • Ovi Suite

    What a useless product.
After being constantly harassed by Nokia PC Suite to "upgrade" to Ovi Suite, I finally gave in and installed it. I de-installed it within 15 minutes.
This is not an upgrade, but a downgrade.
    1) No support for Lotus Notes
    2) No sync of files, for example Quick Office files.
What's the point in offering upgrades that don't even do what the previous version offered?

According to Nokia, it's called "progress".
But yeah, I got burned too. Is there an "Uninstall" tool for Ovi Suite like there is one for PC Suite?

  • N900 Ovi Suite Compatibility

Is N900 already compatible with Ovi Suite. Or it won't happen within the next five years...

    epends on your machine.
if you are using the 64bit machine....not really at all, if 32bit, not good, but better then 64bit.
i do not recommend 9/8 suite for n900 yet.
if you need a sync solution, see below.
    download pc suite @  http://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-and-software/software/nokia-pc-suites/compatibility-and-download
DO NOT USE THE OVI SUITE
if you have ovi suite installed, then uninstall it first.
then install the pc suite from the link above.
after you have completed the installation, reboot your pc.
upon reboot, launch the pc suite (if it has not already) (i would set the settings to launch with windows start up)
when the software is running, click on the blue &green yin~yang icon for sync.
click on the phone icon, it will pop up a box to help you find a phone.
plug your phone in the usb cable, choose the pc suite on you n900
click on searcy icon onthe phone connection pop-up.
once your phone is connected, then go back to the original box that youclick on the phone icon, and click on the wrench icon to set up what, and how you want synced.
if your contacts and calendar are up to date on your pc, and you want to start fresh, then chekc the box for replace all data on the handset, and then sync.
after that sync, go back into the wrench and change that setting to how you want it to sync, otherwise, everytime you sync, it will completely change all the data to what youhave in outlook instead of adding and syncing all appointments, etc back and forth.
if you have bluetooth on you pc, then it is just as easy to do it that way.

  • Ovi Suite won't install

I've downloaded the ovi suite installer but when I try to run it I get the following error message: "Nokia Installer Application has stopped working. Windows is looking for a solution to this problem." Needless to say, Windows never finds one. I've tried this several times, and tried running the program from a command prompt. Nothing works. Any ideas?

    Hello,
i don't speak english very well, but i'll do better than i can.
if you want Ovi suite launching, you must deactivate your proxy server  in the internet option, in the connection tab and parameter network, it's a check button which you may activate if you use a proxy server, i had the same problem and when i deactivate this check button, it has resolve the problem.
See the jpg i'v join with this post
i hope it will be good for you,
    good luck.

    Hi,
this problem was here at least twice already. Problem is in Eset NOD32 antivirus. Just turn off web protection in NOD32 for a time you update Ovi Suite and that it will work just fine. Do not forget to turn it on again after you finish updatitng.

  • Ovi Suite doesn't recognize my N97's PC Suite sett...

Hi all. Sorry if this is a double post. I tried searching, but didn't find anything.
I've recently tried to transfer music from my PC to my Nokia N97. I did this once before using Ovi Suite with no problems, but now I'm having some serious trouble.
When I plug my phone into a USB port, it asks me the USB mode I want to use, and I select PC Suite, however it then tells me to reconnect my device using PC Suite mode, which I already have done! It doesn't matter how many times I do it, Ovi Suite is adament that my phone is connected in file transfer mode. I've downloaded all the updates, but it hasn't helped.
I can still connect with Bluetooth, but its slow, and if I connect by dragging and dropping (going to My Computer then to my device) then the music doesn't actually show up in my phone.
Can anybody give me some advice on what to do?
    Thanks

If you set Ovi Suite to full screen, does your computer not remember that setting? It should make Ovi Suite fit to screen.

  • How do you export messages from Ovi Suite?

As the title says, how do you export messages from Ovi Suite?
I know how to export messages from Nokia PC Suite, but it doesn't seem to be possible in the new Nokia Ovi Suite.
Here is how I would do it in the Nokia PC Suite.
    1. I click the Messages icon to open Nokia Communication Center.
    2. I click on the Messages option on the left pane to view only messages.
    3. In the main window I mark the messages I want to export.
    4. Then I go to File menu and chose Export.
    5. Choose destination folder and I'm all set to export my messages from my Nokia.
I can chose between the formats CSV and VMG (vMessage) for export. If more than one message is marked only the CSV format is available. But what you can do to export several messages in the VMG format is to mark them all in the main window and press CTRL+C or right click and chose Copy to copy them all to RAM memory. Then all you have to do is create an empty folder on the desktop and paste them in there by pressing CTRL+V or right clicking and chosing Paste.
That's all there is to it, using Nokia PC Suite. So how do you do this in Nokia Ovi Suite? You don't, right?
And this **bleep** Ovi Suite is supposed to replace PC Suite?
Thank God I won't be needing neither of them much longer. I am switching to Android and HTC. Good luck with Ovi, the Ovi Player, the Ovi Suite, the PC Suite, the Symbian, the S60, the Symbian^1 (S60 5th edition), the Symbian^3, the Symbian^4 and what not.

I believe OVI took a step in the right direction with this option. I also believe it was made available due to the fact that OVI Suite cannot take a huge number of messages altogether. This option was made available so that the messages could be backed up.
However, I'd like to suggest the following, if possible.
    1. Make Nokia OVI Suite be able to handle a huge number of messages.
    2. Have the option to export only selected messages.
