Do you think a MicroFilter will help when fitted t...

Our broadband has been getting slower since the engineers replaced a pole 30 feet down the road and had all the cables disconnected and on the floor.
I emailed BT via the contact us on Broadband speed.
I explained it has gradullly got worse and that we are down in speed by over 25%.
Our normal good rate (for round here anyway) is 2.2meg down 0.5 meg up.
The Hub connects at 2.8 down on a good day hence our 2.2, never know why hub can connect at that but we get lower.
Anyway the responce i got was as follows:
**Edited**
Seemed a bit weired to em as we have a Type 5: SSFP Infinity Master socket which has no requirement for Microfilters, which is what I said in my reply.
"Not sure if sending a new micro filter will do anything, as the router is connected directly to the main socket which incorporates the filter I think.
It was fitted by the engineer called out when the line went flaky a while ago, it is a Type 5: SSFP Infinity
No other phones connected to extensions, need a micro filter either using this type of Main socket.
If you are sending a new socket faceplate incorporating the filter?? maybe that will work.
His responce

I do not think this will achieve anything, I know the call center Helpdesk are not engineers and only follow a flowchart but you would expect it to show them microfilters are not even used with this type of socket.
We have filters to try in any case if a Moderator/Engineer expert could shed some light on this.
It is high time BT bit the bullet and had UK call Center Helpdesks with people who know what the hell they are doing.

No problem adding info although further diagnostics on the speedtest has not worked for months.
As original was edited
Basically answer that came back was, the line and hub had been tested and found good and they reckoned it was the Microfilter between the socket and the Hub, considering with the Type 5: SSFP Infinity master socket you do not use filters I thought it strange.
Which is what i said in reply, their reply said having looked at it, they would still send Micro Filter and it will cure the issue for good.
Some hope.
Last time we had issues they supposedly checked the line out remotly and found nothing.
Funny thing we called out an enginner  and he traced it to dodgy wire in the Cabinet.
So have not much faith in the helpdesks remote tracing of anything.

I have OSX 10.7.5 on my imac, my idvd is not working correctly.  Should I re-download this version again , do you think that it will help to improve the idvd operation?

First, iDVD is not and never has been part of OS X. If iDVD is not working correctly, then you should investigate possible problems with that application, support files, preferences, or cache.
Of course you can always reinstall OS X if you wish:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

If the battery pack is ruined do you think the computer  will still work and turn on if I use the charger

how are you certian the battery is "ruined" ?  If water damaged, I wouldnt dare charge it.
Theres a big difference between dead (cycled out, old, dead) and RUINED / damaged/ cracked cells/
If damaged or a cell is broken, I wouldnt dare charge it.
Will it work if the batteries are utterly dead, no.

Call of duty black ops has come out on mac, and the system requirements say 2.4ghz is needed, i only have 2.3ghz, do you think the game will run okay? thank you

This is too generic of a statement. They are working on support for the 2012 MacBook Pros and because of the better architecture in the 2012 machines a 2.3GHz machine may perform well.

  • What's the point of including "You might contact your administrator if you think this is a mistake" when a post is pulled?

I understand that the mods here can't possibly reply to everyone who has a post pulled for ToU. One can vaguely try to contact an administrator indirectly, perhaps, by posting here. (When this takes the form of a "why was my post pulled" post, this usually starts a discussion of some kind, which may or may not have any value, but which almost always fails to elicit any direct participation of the Hosts, and gives the impression, at least, it's being completely ignored by them.)
Since there is no way of directly contacting an administrator, either for ToU or for any other reason, which this appears to suggest is possible, why not just get rid of it?

    >...although the OP's question still remains....
I'm now referred to as the OP?
If you got the email with content for the "final straw" post, which was mine, then you will know what I wrote. I already had one post pulled in that thread for a ToU and I did receive the obligatory email for that. I did not receive an email for the "final straw" post. Just the entire thread got pulled almost immediately at that point.
Everything I am writing here now is deliberately being veiled and obscured to the limit possible without losing all meaning and just turning this into noise. No one who didn't receive that email content for my post will have any very clear idea what this is all about.
My "final straw" comments related to several things: some copyright issues concerning the site under discussion; the ToU of that site as, in fact, necessarily prohibiting even the linking of content from that site, and an attempt to differentiate, in general, between what is illegal and what is a violation of the ToU, and not illegal, as such, for any service on any site. I'm not opening all of that up again here, since whatever it was I wrote will probably just get this post pulled.
All I can say is I attempted assiduously to stay clear of the Apple ToU violation for which I was cited by the Apple email in my earlier post which was pulled -- or any ToU violation, for that matter. I was not discussing Apple's policies, nor was I giving "forbidden" instructions. That the entire thread got pulled has to make me think that straying into those waters -- perhaps, my discussion of copyright issues in regard to the behavior of the other site under consideration, especially, made someone very nervous. Or maybe it was something other than that. But I will never know.
In any case, "You might contact your administrator if you think...." is genuinely silly, and unless it's somehow ineradicable from the Jive template -- I see now Meg has given that as a possible reason -- I can't see why it shouldn't be removed.

  • Do you think that there will be a new mac book with leopard in januarry.

When Mac OS X Leopard comes out in Spring 07 do you think there will be a new macbook. I am now debating over weather to buy my macbook now or later because i am worried that they will do what they did with the core 2 duo and make me able to get like a 2GB macbook for the price i payed for a 512MB macbook.
I know you might say "that you cant put a price on the extra 3 months" but i think that i really would want to wait. What do you recomend?? When Tiger was released was there a new macbook>>>>>?

I think the simple answer is "who knows?".
The Original MBP was launched Jan/Feb 2006 and updated to Core 2 Duo in November 2006. It's unlikely that a further upgrade will come within 6 - 9 months IMHO, but as I said at the very start, "who knows?'
If the computer you are considering will satisfy your computing needs now and into the immediate future (say 2 to 3 years), then make your decision based on that.
When I bought my first powerBook G4, it was updated 3 months later with faster processors etc, did I care? Nope. Why? Because the one I had was more gthan capable for my needs. It only slowed up too much a couple of months ago. I suspected a Core2Duo macBook Pro was due to be announced, so waited until it was and bought one to replace my 867Mhz PowerBook.
Frankly I don't care what Apple do with their new models now. I have a Mac Pro, I have a PowerMac G5 Quad and a MacBook Pro, I have no plans on buying any more computers for a couple of years or until the ones I have just don't hack it any more. Then I will be interested in what Apple are offering.
You have to understand that with Intel inside, as I have mentioned in a few threads previously, changes will take place quicker than they did with the PowerPC platform. They've got to since Apple now use the same insides as PC's do. This now makes them directly comparible. If you look at how fast PC's change, it will give you some indication of how quickly Apple will have to update their offerings to either stay ahead of or in line with other computer manufacturers offerings.
Technology always moves on. I buy when something is available that will more than meet my computing needs currently and for the foreseeable future (2 to 3 years on). I don't really care when an upgrade comes along and supercedes the specs on my machine. There's nothing you can do about it. Technology moves on.
Intel have already announced their Quad core technology, so I would guess somewhere down the line Apple will be offering Quad Core CPU machines. However, as the number of cores per chip increases, the Ghz per core drops, so you have to weigh up whether you want a Core 2 Duo running at 2.33Ghz, or a Quad Core running at say 1.6Ghz or less?
If you are worried about buying and then your system becomes outdated, metaphorically, by being upgraded shortly after, why not wait for the launch of the much rumoured Apple Super-Scooper Turbo Charged, time travelling MacBook UltraPro Extreme 332, a 332 core Intel CPU running at 2.0Ghz per core on a 15,000,000Ghz FSB. It will come with 500GB TDDR9 SDRAM (Turbo charged DDR9) and a 50TTB Hard Drive (Turbo charged seek time of -10ms - it accesses before you think about accessing it), graphics are based on holographic technology and no screen is needed, as the graphics are rendered in 3D above the system for true interactivity, also comes with THX certified Dolby 27.1 DTTS (turbo charged DTS with 27 channels). . .
But then that would be updated too of course. Oh well just accept what's on offer now and accept changes will always be made to further enhance and better current offerings. Alternatively just wait forever, eventually there will be a point where computers don't or can't be upgraded or updated to further enhance them. Not in my lifetime though.

  • Do you think apple ipad will ever allow flash player?

It has now become a marketing point for the blackberry... <flash ah ah...> lol
But seriously, now more and more tablets will start to allowing flash, it's becoming quite a substantial selling point
My girlfriend actually wants to get rid of her ipad and get a play book... or whatever its called, she loved her ipad to begin with, but has got a bit frustrated when she cant watch movies from the sites she can use on her laptop...
So now the competitors are taking the edge off by offering flash player, do you think the next generation of ipad will also offer this?

Thanks king, thats a great article that I had never read before... it sound like they never intend to support flash unless Flash becomes more stable
So what I really want to know now is more related to the play book, have adobe produce a flash player that performs better and doesnt crash for the play book and if it does crash, does it bring down the entire play book, the entire browser, or just the tab that the player is currently running in << this will be a question for play book users (I'll have to find out the answers from them, unless someone here has tried it)

  • I have an unlocked iphone 3gs running ios 6.0 currently with straight talk. I was able to get all the functions working except mms.Do you think this issue will be resolved ? I really would like that option on my phone. I have tried everything.

Can't get mms. to work have, tried everything I have found online.ST tells me it's Apples' problem Apple tells me it's STs' problem.Does anyone think this issue will be resolved ? My phone is an Apple unlocked 3gs running ios 6.0 on Straight Talk using atts' towers.

I am having the same problem but cannot get anything but the actual phone to work.  I have a unlocked 3GS running 6.0 (what was I thinking?).  No data whatsoever, no texting, no visual voicemail.  I simply cannot access the APN settings.  I have tried sim swap, I have tried APN changers.  I have been on the phone with ST tech support for hours and hours.  I have tried to get the answers from a "genius".  I am stuck and looking at Android devices, but would really like to keep using the iphone with Straight Talk.

  • Does anyone actually read contracts with Verizon or do you trust your rep will help?

This is my "verizon" experience.  I've sent the following letter to various people with no response as of yet.  I'm wondering if i'm the only person in the world that does not understand why it's perfectly acceptable to charge someone for service they are not getting?  Any comments are appreciated.  See my letter below:
    Dear Verizon,
I’m an original Radiofone customer (mid 90’s).  Then I was an Alltel customer.  Then I became a Verizon customer.  At peak, I had four lines I think.  For the last few years, I’ve had three and most recently I’ve had two.  My husband was moved to his office’s plan. We gladly paid the cancelled fee a few years ago for that as we wanted his number, although I probably could have asked nicely and you guys would have waived it as Verizon is so great to deal with, or they were.
Now his company line is with T-Mobile.  I finally bit the bullet and left you guys.  I didn’t want to but we have four lines, all unlimited minutes and text. One line has 2.5 gb of data and the other three have 500 mb of data.  My bill is $110.00 a month.  You can’t beat those prices.  Although I’ve been having some issues like I can’t get phone calls in my house, even on Wi-Fi and I’m on my second tech call support of the day.  I don’t have a contract, I own my phones outright and still own the Verizon phones I had (several actually) so I figured if I can’t get good service, I’m going back to Verizon.  Well, that was before I got wind of Verizon’s “***** the customer on their way out the door” policy.
When I called a couple of weeks ago, I learned that one of my phones was in contract and one was out. We talked at great length about how the services are paid, for the month before, and she told me what my cancellation was ($75.00 since one phone was under contract still).  I told her that I’d have the T-Mobile phones on Friday (July 12th) and I’d be porting over the lines then so I’d only owe $75.00 and a “few days of service, right”?  “Yes, ma’am”, said the Verizon girl.
Fast forward to today, I have my $90.99 bill in my hand and called.  I wanted the amount through the 12th of July so I could add it to the $75.00 cancellation fee and pay.  That’s when I was informed I owe these lines through August 7th. I argued with the rep today, told her I had no intention of paying for service I do not have and had the girl informed me that I would be paying for the whole month, I would have waited till closer to the beginning of August to port the phones.
It was then when I was told, “Well, it’s in your contract”.  Ok, maybe it is.  Who reads these contracts?  No one. Is there anything in it that’s negotiable?  No. When I called to get the cancellation fee, this girl knew EXACTLY what I was doing and EXACTLY what day I would be porting the numbers.  She knew I was calculating my last bill and at no time did she tell me that I would pay the whole month.  If someone changes plans in the middle of a billing cycle, Verizon is MORE than happy to pro-rate that, but leave them and you are *******, is that the policy?  Now that I’m unhappy with T-Mobile, my first thought was let’s all go back to Verizon as they are worth the extra money if it works like it should.  What good is cheaper service if it doesn’t work?  But I am absolutely livid right now and as things sit, Verizon will NEVER be an option for our family.
So here’s my plan. I’m going wait to see if you guys will do the ethical thing and pro-rate me for the month, ESPECIALLY since I was lied to or misled on the phone when I called to get the cancellation fee.  Then I have a call into a finance manager in the family.  I have every intention of paying the $75.00 cancellation fee but what sort of hit will my EXTREMELY high credit score take if I don’t pay this $90.99.  We bought a truck a year or so ago and our credit rating was in the high 700’s and T-Mobile approved us for 10 lines minimum.  I’m sort of thinking that a charge under $100 won’t affect me enough to worry about.  If you aren’t going to pro-rate my bill, and please don’t take this as a threat, I will make it my life’s mission, and with the help of Facebook pages, to make sure everyone I know understands Verizon’s lopsided pro-rating policies and how they treat their customers because according to your reps, I should know better and should have read my contract (are you kidding me?). Bet I can get one million likes by the end of the year.
As you can tell, I’m pretty mad.  Had I not called just prior to changing, I would think this is my fault and I should have known your policies, but that’s not the case.  I called to get the policy and cancellation fee explained to me in detail and it wasn’t, ESPECIALLY since the rep had my porting date long before this bill generated.  This all could have been prevented.
    I await Verizon’s response.
    Sincerely,
    Stacy

First of all, I am sure you will definitely get 1 million likes. There are several people who dislike Verizon, but even with 1 million likes, that still means less than 1% of their customer base. And I am sure several of those likes will be from "former" customers like yourself which would mean an even smaller percentage.
Maybe it happened different than you described, but the way you explained your story you did not ask for the policy on cancellation of service. You asked "I told her that I’d have the T-Mobile phones on Friday (July 12th) and I’d be porting over the lines then so I’d only owe $75.00 and a “few days of service, right”?" In this explanation, you are not asking about the policy. The statement is correct, problem with your question is you did not ask if Verizon bills for "partial months". Unless there is something you are leaving out, you also DID NOT ask for the policy on service cancellation. Yes, you would be paying for a "few days of service" but the smallest increment when you cancel service is to the end of your billing cycle. The ONLY time you ever receive a bill for a partial month is when you begin service with Verizon. NEVER when you are a current customer.
You said you talked "at great length" about how services are paid including I assume paying a month in advance for service which is how Verizon has done business for as long as I can remember. You also say your bill closes on the 7th of the month. Well that means Verizon would have "billed a month in advance" for your service on July 8th. Now you may have said you were porting on July 12, but Verizon does not have a crystal ball and not all customers follow thru with their plans. When you request a port from another provider, Verizon does not cancel your service UNTIL the port takes place. They do not cancel your service and then trust the port will proceed on the specified date. Since Verizon would have billed you for a "month in advance" on July 8, did you also ask if you would get a refund of a portion of your bill? You don't say you asked that question, but you may have done so. I assume you didn't, otherwise you would have pointed that out I suppose.
It is doubtful you will get any pro-rated credit on the remainder of the billing period, but good luck anyway.
I am in no way trying to be pro-Verizon here as I have been labeled more times than I can count. Just trying to point out Verizon's policies are easy to find in the contract. Also anyone on these forums would have been able to give you the correct information.
I am aware there are several people who claim to have been lied to by CS reps. Whether it is a lie or simply a misunderstanding, I don't know as it has NEVER happened to me in the many times I have interacted with CS. Of course, I try to research the question prior to asking CS if they give an answer which contradicts the contract or a "partial" answer which sounds like what you may have gotten when they confirmed you would be paying for a "few days of service, right". Technically, that statement is correct, but what they failed to explain to you was that you would have already been billed for a full month and would not get a refund. Technically when you spoke "at great length", this was explained to you, at least as you have mentioned in your story. As this part of the question may have been several minutes from your question about pro-rating, you may have thought it didn't apply. Quite possibly a simple misunderstanding, I have no way of knowing. Partial answers when you fail to ask the correct questions sometimes sound like lies.
Finally, good luck with your new provider if you choose to stay with them.

  • When you block someone what will happen when they try calling and texting you?

I recently blocked someone they have a different phone carrier. When they text me and call me what will happen? Will they know if they got blocked?

They might get a message when calling that the call couldn't be completed.  I don't know what happens when they try to text you.

  • So how many phones do you think the Stores will have?

Like the topic says, how many phones do you expect each store to have, roughly?
    I'm thinking *maybe* 30...
I hope more but.. obviously I'm not holding my breath against anything best buy believes in, ha.

I was told from one of the employees today that the East Side was Best Buy was getting "about 100" iPhones, so they expected to get about the same.
I was also told that they were going to get constant shipments throughout the week to fill the preorders, and also that since I got the confirmation email I don't have to wait in line... which is nice.

  • What do you think about iPad 3?

iPad 3 is most likely (pretty much certainly) going to be unveiled on March 7, 2012. What do you think iPad 3 will incorporate, based on this photo?

Hmm... maybe Apple put those apps in the picture to fool us, they're really going to withdraw them?
What is most interesting about that pic is the lack of a home button... but I don't think that means anything for this model.
