Do You Think Software Developers Are Obligated To Have A Windows 10 Build?

I don't think they have an obligation, but there can be a risk of losing customers if they don't keep current.

So I'm sure like many of you, I'm a part of a few different communities and forums. One that I'm a part of reacted to an announcement by a software developer that they were waiting 6 to 9 months to get a Win 10 version of their software ready. General reaction was not positive.
So it got me thinking, do you think Software Developers have an obligation to support a new OS like Windows 10 from the get-go? Or do you think developers have the right to wait to see how a new OS runs first before releasing a public build?

    When deciding what kind of partitioned index to use, you should consider the following guidelines in order:
    1.
    If the table partitioning column is a subset of the index keys, use a local index. If this is the case, you are finished. If this is not the case, continue to guideline 2.
    2.
    If the index is unique, use a global index. If this is the case, you are finished. If this is not the case, continue to guideline 3.
    3.
    If your priority is manageability, use a local index. If this is the case, you are finished. If this is not the case, continue to guideline 4.
    4.
    If the application is an OLTP one and users need quick response times, use a global index. If the application is a DSS one and users are more interested in throughput, use a local index.

  • The double click is not working so cannot navigate. Do you think this is a fault or have the setting been changed

    I am new to apple and found that the double click on my MacBook air is not working so stuck on one screen and can not move. Is there another way other than double clicking to move between screens? Do you think this is a fault or just that the settings have been changed
    Thank you

    It is probably set too fast or too slow. Go to System Preferences from the Apple menu. Click on trackpad and adjust the double-click speed here.

  • How many security breaches do you think there really are?

    Lieberman Software released a study today that finds 87% of IT pros believe the reports of security breaches among financial institutions belie the true number of hacks occurring within the industry.According to eWeek, the report, which surveyed nearly 150 IT pros, concludes that IT faces a lack of confidence concerning of advanced persistent threat (APT) attacks and how organizations are able to deal with them.Speaking with eWeek, the current President of Lieberman Software, Philip Lieberman, explained that the rising use of "automation among attackers and the increased use of zero days and unpatched vulnerabilities are adding to [the security risks that organizations face]." While IT is partof the problem, Lieberman places a larger portion of blame with senior leadership, which doesn't build "resiliency into their business operations...

    Hi Shanti,
    I did not have that specific problem.
    The way I stripped the envelope was by simply using embedded JAVA and a regular expression (an alternative to this could be to make your message a DOM object and use XPath to extract the payload).
    I found that this did not work in my case because I needed the header in the original message. So instead I am currently using XPath at the invoked webservice instead.
    I am still working on finding a way to get a proper message sent from BPEL. Here is some suggestions from my SR to Oracle:
    1. Continue to use your current solution. (paraphrased by me)
    2. Do not wrap the MESSAGES with a SOAP envelope before they are placed on the inbound JMS queue.
    3. If appropriate try and use HTTP BINDINGS to invoke the WebSevices.
    I am working on the 3rd option, since the first two are not usable in my case.
    Regards,
    Aagaard
    PS: My reg. ex. looked something like this:
    aSource = aSource.replaceAll("(?s)<backslashbackslash/SOAP-ENV:Body>.*", "");
    aSource = aSource.replaceFirst("(?s)^.*<SOAP-ENV:Body>\n+", "");
    aSource = aSource.replaceAll("(?s)backslashbackslash-backslashbackslashs+", "");

  • I have Firefox 4 listed as a program, tried to un-install it so I could download 5. Now I cannot use 4, Cannot un-install 4 or Download 5 - What do you think? My stupidity? Or have I discovered a new flaw in the program? Thanks

    When I try to un-install 4 it tells be to restart / reboot which I have done and nothing changes.
    The same happens when I try to download 5.
    Also when I click on the Mozilla / Firefox shortcut on the desktop it just brings up a blank white page.

    You don't want to update to 3.6.4, trust me. Stay with 3.6.3. If you need to download it again you can find it here:

  • You think Apple will give us something for this?

    Do you think Apple will give us something in return for this chaos? Like maybe a free game or something? I have read soooo many stories and man its pretty messed up. Ive read ppl saying that "apple did not force them to update" but when ur iPhone says "New Update Available - 2.0" and you've waited since January for this, then they say that it will be here in March, then they say June then finally July....what do you think? There are some innocent people who just updated and were victims of this. This really s u c k s i know. but do you think apple will give us something for this?

    Some of you people are clueless. You act as if Apple is completely blameless. here's a newsflash for you: If a company makes a product available, they have a responsibility to the consumer that it works properly. That's the basic idea behind express and implied warranty laws. "Oh, but it's free...so you can't complain!" - It's not free, and you're not very smart. Apple provides software updates to keep consumers happy, and keep us using their products. it's built in to the cost of the iPhone. A cost of doing business, if you will. If it wasn't beneficial to them, why would they spend countless man-hours developing the code? because it's a happy, shiny world? Yeah, exactly.
    "But no one forced you to download the update!" - And no one forced them to make it available before the infrastructure was ready either. It's not as if Apple is new to this game. They had issues at launch. And I don't know about your job, but at mine...if I know I'm going to have issues, I make dang well sure I've got my bases covered next time around, so I have ZERO repeats. and given the scope of their marketing, it's not like Apple can say "Hurr, we didn't know it would be so popular, hur hur.".

  • Do you think FIOS is safe? It's NOT!!

    My FIOS connection is constantly being hacked. TV, Internet and Phone. Even wireless. Verizon cares to do nothing, even though the IP addresse are theirs.  If you're IP goes to gnilink.net, you have a problem!!
    They work with google who they will not even question if you think your intrusions are coming from there. Mine are originating from someone by the name of Max Braun.  But Verizon sticks to a false line of bull saying there's only so much they can do.
    If you've been having problems, I have an idea.  Don't sue for money, but get their trrademarks cancelled. If you can't rely on them as an indicator of safety, iot can be done.

    It's safe to use, it seems like an interesting extension actually.

    Warning: blatant cross-post. I posted most of this as a comment on your blog entry. Added more up top... none of this is really specific to BEA per se - more of my rambling on collaborative forums.
    I use the newsgroups. They're my single best way of getting information and have been an absolute life-saver when using ALUI (nee Plumtree). Really. Docs are starters, but the ability to ask things online and collaborate with people / share ideas is an "insanely great" thing people should leverage and foster. When I need help I start with the groups.
    Keyword: foster. It takes commitment from everyone, but most especially BEA (in this context). A well-tended developer community is not something that grows in the right direction without appropriate channeling and care. The rewards, however, can be priceless in terms of customer satisfaction, loyalty, and, ultimately, returning $.
    Reward points - not a huge proponent, myself, but I do share the vision. Good ideas tend to come from open, caring thinkers who listen and respond. I share a lot of the dreams/hopes I think BEA does on this front with valuation of posts, and, by virtue of that, posters in the context of a question/answer/information asset. If reward points move toward that, cool.
    Popularity - quality responses that help. Otherwise, a forum populated by nothing but questions will be dead - you'll realize there's no point in visiting.

    ===========
    I'm going to admit that I tend to live mainly in the ALUI forums, but the point you make about repeated questions is something that nags at me as well. Like you I see the same questions asked - over and over - I'd love to see these captured and exposed through updated online docs (assuming people are reading those...ahem - you are reading those, right? :).
    The questions that are asked are often very good / legit and should (IMO) be captured and then either thrown into "scenarios" or FAQ-type areas in the docs at a minimum.
    How do I do X? In what situations do I do Y? I blew up Z and now it's my job if I don't fix it - what do I do?
    I can't believe I'm going to say this as I'm not entirely onboard with "2.0," but possibly user-group Wikis so we can publish "how-to's" related to the IDK, etc.? Community involvement in online document updates may seem a bit...well...overly hopeful... but I do think that if I had the opportunity to document things I'd probably do it there so we could all benefit as opposed to me putting into in text file and then emailing it to myself so there's absolutely no way I can find it later :) Yeah - I'm being self-serving along the way again ;)

    Hey, Jeff...
    I don't know how I could have made my question any more clear -- so let me try approaching it the other way around, and refer back to your answer(s).
    You've been responding by saying that it's okay for me to remove the Creative Cloud versions of my software, but I don't have any Creative Cloud versions installed! I'm not talking about that at all, I'm talking about the software for Creative Cloud itself -- I don't use it, I don't need it, I don't want it, and all it does is nag me, telling me that there's updates for it (Creative Cloud). I have the full Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard bought and paid for, I have no reason nor need to "rent" any later versions, I'm just talking about the Creative Cloud software itself that got installed on my system when I installed that suite of programs.
    Like I said, I don't use Creative Cloud at all -- all it does is "nag" me, and eat up space on my hard drive. When I go in my Windows Control Panel and look at my list of installed programs, there it is -- "Adobe Creative Suite" -- and it's listed separately from "Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard" (of which I've only installed Photoshop, Acrobat and InDesign, basically, as those are the only programs I use at all at the moment). Can I just uninstall "Adobe Creative Suite" without it affecting "Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard", i.e. my Photoshop, etc. will still work just fine, and I can still get updates and stuff? And by "updates" I don't mean get later versions of Photoshop, etc., I just mean any possible updates to the software that I do already have (that comes with Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard).
    I hope that makes my question a little more clear?

    Hello:
    There are NO viruses that affect a Mac running OS X - none.  FWIW, I suggest that you NOT buy A/V software.  It is a waste of both money and computer resources.
    Having said that, there are a couple of instances of malware that have popped up.  Just don't follow links from unknown sources.

  • What do you think open source software is missing?

    What do you think open source software is missing? Can be any general gripe, missing tools, missing support, etc.
    I'm waiting for a skype replacement with a windows and linux client. I only use the video and voice functionality.

    @ ngoonee
    [I don't consider it OT, so I write it here - hope that OP doesn't mind]
    Wrt Paul Davis, he seems to get $4-5k/month now so things are looking up a bit for him. Who's to blame if the community isn't able to come up with enough support for it's prime members? Also, there are parts of the world where you can live rather comfortably on $4k/month. You just have to beware of the dragons ;-)
    Open Source is a lot like socialism: work as hard as you can, get as much as you need. In theory, it could work: some would eat 2x the avg but work 5x the avg while others would be the other way round. In practise ... People are lazy, people are evil.
    Why should they pay for sth if they don't have to? Why should they be interested in GNU / Linux? Because it's free? Hey, I've got tons of "free" apps, piracy ahoy! (Or should I say "arrrrr")
    Maybe that's the reason many 'big names' went to work for Microsoft: their dignity didn't allow them to beg for support.

  • My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

    My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

    Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
    As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
    Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).
