Document Composer ES 2.5: PDF Plugin Problem?

Hi, I got a screenshot from a colleague of me showing his UI of the Document Composer. I have never seen such a behaviour of the PDF plugin part It looks like that the plugin is not loaded correctly, but I have never seen such a "cross" for it. Any ideas, what could have happened here?

Hi John,
as it turned out, there is a setting in IE where you can enable/disable ActiveX plugins. I do NOT refer to the overall ActiveX settings, but the "Manage AddOns" option in the settings dialog. There, each specific addon can be disabled/enabled separately. With some versions of Reader 9 there seemed to be a problem that (for unknown reasons) the Reader plugin was in a disabled state. Maybe you can check that?

Steffen.

  • PDF plugin problem

    Hello everyone,
a customer of us is having problems displaying PDF forms in Workspace ES. They are using IE7 with Reader 9.2. Reader is the standard application for PDF files, the "Display PDFs in browser" option has been set, but Workspace is still displaying the "You must install Adobe Reader to view this form" message. It also doesn't work if Reader is open in the background during the process.
What can be the reason for this? What can be checked to find out the reason why this problem is persisting? Maybe somebody knows what triggers this message box?
    Thank you for any help,
    Steffen.

  • Is there a way to control Adobe PDF plugin from within a Web Application? For Example, Can we highlight text in the PDF/A document programatically?

    Hi,
I am trying to open a PDF document in browser using Adobe PDF plug-in for IE 9. The plugin version is 10.x
I need to highlight certain text in the PDF document ( which is searchable) programmatically. For example, when a user selects certain text on the web-page, we want to automatically highlight that in the PDF document.

I don't think this is a question one can answer by simply downloading the SDK. And even if one reads all the documentation (it rarely happens for obvious reasons), it is not easy to reach an answer because its explanation is not trivial at all.
In my own opinion, this is right the type of question to be put and (hopefully) answered in a Forum.
Now, I am not sure about the correct answer but I will give one hint.
If I am not wrong, the Internet Explorer, IE, PDF viewer by Adobe is actually a .dll file which is put under IE once Adobe Reader is installed. A custom plug-in for Reader or Acrobat is also a .dll file (Windows) but its extension is .api and it needs to be copied under Reader or Acrobat (or both). Therefore, I don't see how we can merge the IE viewer .dll with a custom plug-in .api. Though maybe technically possible, I don't think it is something we can do.
If above reasoning is correct, the answer to the question is No.

  • Pdf display problem in Adobe Reader (NOT plugin)

I looked around and found a lot of people having problems with the .pdf plugin inside Safari... that is NOT my problem... just to get it out of the way...
I have .pdf files on my iMac, files in which I work, like forms. They are standalone and have nothing to do with the web.
They have been created a while ago (couldn't say which version, but I'd say at least 5 years ago). Except, the problem isn't that the files are too old for the new versions... I am currently using those files without any problem with version 9 on my Macbook (Snow Leopard), while on the iMac (ML) I have the exact same problem no matter which version I try : version 9, version X or XI !!!
What happens is this : I open a file (form-type) and I have pale blue covering every field except the one my cursor is in... and most of the fields are flashing... flashing between that blue and the usual color, and entries/nothing.
Say a field is usually pink with a time in it, it will flash between blue and pink, and the time will appear and disappear, on and off... seemingly forever...
I just checked a file I had which is mostly text (an e-book) but with a few note-fields... these were also blue... but nothing was flashing.
It seems it's the "interactive" fields that are acting weird.
Since the problem is the same no matter the Adobe Reader version and only on my Mountain Lion computer, it seems it has to do with Mac OSX 10.8 but is there a solution? Has anyone else encountered this?

After so many hours of searching, I finally found both culprits!!!
    A) the blue: It was stupid of me, really... it was simply that the "highlight existing fields" was selected (right top corner, usually). Once I de-selected it, all the blue went away... but data continued to disappear except when a box was selected. See B...
    B) Do NOT, Never ever, use Preview to make changes in a .pdf file and then save the file... That was the problem!
It must've happened a few times, for example it just did this morning, on my new laptop on which I hadn't set Adobe to be my default program for .pdf and the file opened in Preview... I didn't even notice...
And after searching some more I found a few threads and all had in common that people had used Preview to make changes and save the file... seems that Preview corrupts the files!
By the way, Eric, no, opening in Preview did NOT give the same results... but files I opened that had never been opened (or, at least, not tempered with) in Preview were all fine...
    Thanks for your help though!

  • Bookmarks sidebar cover Flash player and PDF plugin when active.

    This problem is present in FF 5 - 6 - 7.

Ok, I tried to download the firefox browser but IE wouldn't let me download it.  My friend downloaded it from their computer to a flash drive and I loaded it to my computer from the flash drive.  The download of Firefox from the flash drive worked, and now I'm using Firefox & both my adobe flash player and my adobe reader are working just great.
However, neither the flash player nor the reader are working if I use IE, so I guess I will just have to use Firefox as my browser.
I'm going to mark my question as answered since I really don't care that I have to use Firefox instead of IE,although I can't understand why it works using Firefox but not using IE.
Thank you so much for your assistance in walking me step-by-step through this problem until I was able to reach a satisfactory solution.

  • Firefox PDF Plugin for Mac OS X shows as an unknown plugin, yet I got it through mozilla! What's its latest version?

    Firefox Plugin check says:
Firefox PDF Plugin for Mac OS X
Displays PDF documents in the browser. Unknown plugin
yet I got it via Mozilla plugins.
So it's in the Firefox data base. What's the latest version?

Sorry for the delay in getting an answer, but there don't seem to be any advanced level Mac-users helping do support in this forum. <br />
    1. Mozilla didn't supply that Firefox PDF Plugin for Mac OSX, it is probably part of your PDF reader program, or maybe it came with your Mac operating system.
    2. Lack of Plugin version information is something Mozilla has been working on for that Plugin Check page. The problem with fixing it is that there is no standard among Plugin developers for making the version number of their Mozilla Plugin available for Mozilla to locate and display. If you look at your own '''''More system details...''''' in your original posting, you can see the problems Mozilla faces when trying to fix the Plugin Check service. Eight Plugins recognized by this forums software and only the last 2 in the listing reveal the plugin version number to a website - Silverlight and Flash.<br />

  • PDF print problems Preview Fails but Adobe Reader works?

    Hello All,
I'm having issues printing pdf documents, it appears to be a Font problem, that is when I print from Apple's Preview 7.0 the document prints, but the spacing of characters is wrong, some symbols are missing etc.  When I print from Adobe Reader 11.0.07 the documents look normal.
More Details:  All pdfs generated using Latex fail this way, so it might be an issue there.  PDFs generated from iWork's Pages 5 print fine UNLESS I copy the Latex images into them then they print incorrectly again.
I suspect the issue is with Apple's Preview missing a font, although I'm not sure that's it nor how to fix it.  Adobe prints without any issues at all.
I am using OS 10.9.4 on a 2009 iMac.  I am printing to a HP Laserjet M4555 over Bonjour Service.
    Thank you for reading,
    DrD

    Hello Eric,
Unfortunately this has not solved the problem.  I ended up disabling them all and ultimately deleting the duplicates.  Adobe works so that is my work around for now, although I prefer Preview.
    I appreciate your help,
    DrD

  • Is it advisable to create a document in Indesign, export to PDF, then export to Word?

I've been asked to create several documents in Word format because the people who would be using them won't have access to InDesign or Acrobat Pro to edit and change them as needed.
Since Word is so quirky IMO and I don't know it as well as InDesign, I'd like to avoid creating the documents directly in it if at all possible.
My concern is that translating from ID to PDF, and then again to Word might create some strange anomalies in the resulting document, like maybe incorrect dingbat characters or maybe even non-printing characters, or items falling into Word's header or footer no-man's land incorrectly. I wonder if it might end up being just as time consuming?
Has anyone else tried this workflow? And did you have problems with it, or did it work well enough to justify doing it that way?
    Thanks.

I agree with Peter. Depending on the nature of the document(s), your proposed InDesign > PDF > Word workflow could indeed cost you time rather than save it. A word processor just doesn't support the same levels of typographical detail that InDesign does, and Microsoft apps don't handle even features that appear common the same way that Adobe apps do, so by not working in the native Word environment, you're complicating the results; not simplifying the task. Word will feel just as quirky after you convert, and getting it all right will amount to rework, whereas you could have just done it once.

  • I converted a 253 page document from Word 2010 to pdf using Adobe Professional 8.  The pdf fike only had 251 pages.  Why?

I converted a 253 page document from Word 2010 to pdf using Adobe Professional 8.  The pdf fike only had 251 pages.  Why?

Word documents don't have a fixed page layout; Word reflows freely if it wants. This isn't normally a problem unless things like typing page numbers is done; avoid that.

  • Interactive PDF export problem?

    When I tried to export this dialog box appears and it says;
"One or more interactive elements are clipped in ways the PDF files cannot reproduce.
Those elements will be adjust in the exported PDF."
I wonder how can I find these elements is there a debug system in inDesign and show to me which element those are? I want to find them and fix it. But I can't. Please help if you know how to find these elements?
    Cheers,

you can use the system to export your document in halves until you find the problem.

  • Document layout changes when creating PDF

We have the problem of the layout/formatting of documents changing whenever we try to print to PDF from, for instance MS-Word.
We open a large document of lets say 100 pages in total, then when we choose PRINT and now select ADOBE PDF instead of the default Windows printer, then the document layout/formatting changes and now suddenly htere are only 95 pages.
It is aboviusly some font setting problem, but we have not been able to find a soultion ourselves. This issue also prevents us from using "create from multiple files" as we cannot trust the final layout (page numberring end up wrong in PDF file)
    Any input will be appreaciated.

Thx for the input. I am aware of the suggested workaround, but I was looking for at more "permanent" solution, as we need to combine 40-50 files for each job (Word, Excel...and more) and therefore we are trying to avoid having to go through all documents each time we need to convert to PDF.
    Currently we are :
    opening each document individually
    then selecting ADOBE PDF printer
    then checking document formatting/layout
    then printing to PDF.
finally combining the 40-50 PDF's to one PDF
This we have to do as we cannot trust the formatting/layout.
It is off course undesirable when we know we can combine Word, Excel files to one PDF in one "go" without having to open the individual docs. at first.
Surely, it must be some printer driver setup issue (using printer fonts, enabling/disabling bitmap fonts, use truetypes....etc)? we just can't find the recipe for this ourselves.

  • Can the Adobe PDF plugin carry exact phrase search criteria through from source system into Reader?

In SharePoint 2013 if you search for an exact phrase and then view a PDF that is returned by the search (in Reader via the PDF plugin) then the Reader will treat the complete phrase as individual words.
For example, search for "High Court" in SharePoint, get returned a set of PDF documents, and when you view one of them through the Reader the hit highlighting will be for each instance of "High" or "Court".
What is wanted is hit highlighting only of instances of "High Court".
I get the same behavior if the Adobe PDF plugin is installed with the Filesite DMS. So it seems to be standard behavior for the Adobe PDF plugin
Is there a way to make the Adobe PDF plugin carry exact phrase search criteria through from source system into Reader? And then hit highlight the exact phrase only.

    Hi Sam,
You can opt for 'Advance Search' option in Reader to match the whole words to get to the specific documents.

  • Frustration with Safari pdf plugins

I've tried both Shubert and Adobe Reader PDF plugins and find they are both terrible. What I find most annoying is that I can't seem to accurately control scolling. The slightist slide of my finger seems to send the document jumping, often pages at a time.
Any thoughts? At this point, I'm tempted just to uninstall the Reader plugin and just use PDF PenPro.
    Thanks

    Preview works fine for me.
I used to use PDF pen pro, and at one time I've tried all the PDF addon things, but I haven't bothered with them in a while. Preview does a good job of annotating pdfs these days.
I'm an apple fundamentalist. If there's some PDF function I can't do natively with Safari and Preview, I probably don't need it in the first place.

  • PDFs/plugin ceased working in Safari

Hi! Safari doesn't wanna display PDFs directly in the browser window any more. Some PDFs open, but use the Adobe Acrobat plugin rather than Schubertit's PDF plugin (which is set as the default and the Adobe plugin is actually disabled, at least that's what I see in the Acrobat preferences). Other PDFs don't open at all any more. Safari opens a new page when I click a link to a PDF and pretends it's opening it (progress bar and rotating little wheel), but the page stays just white when it's done. The PDF plugin used to work fine until recently. I'm not sure if a recent security update or the Safari update 2.0.1 broke it, but it started misbehaving at around the same time. Anybody else with a similar issue? Any fixes? Camino opens the same PDFs perfectly fine using PDF plugin.

    William,
There is at least one other thread about this problem, which I also have as of 2.0.1, but I haven't done the latest security update or new iTunes 5 or java, etc., so I'm pretty sure it's a safari issue. Nothing that involves audio streaming (maybe video content also) works, including Flash. I've tried everything here short of re-installing Safari 2.0 (trying to figure out how to do that right now) or totally re-installing the OS, which I just did last month. I've stripped out all CMs, Prefs, Bundles, Startup Items and run all the normal maint routines, with no help.
Retrospect is also crashing now, out of the blue, so I can't even get to my older version of Safari on there. :/
I really hope someone figures this out. Here's what my crash reporter says:

  • Safari PDF Veiwing Problems

Having problem in viewing pdf files using the Safari browser. I have adobe professional installed on my machine. I have read in this forum that Safari has a build in pdf reader and to delete the adobe plug-in in the library/internet plug-in folder. I did delete this file but it has no effect on safari and viewing pdf files. When I select a pdf file for viewing I get just a black screen and no viewing.
Everything works properly when using Firefox if that makes any difference.
    As info is greatly appreciated.
    Michael

The black screen shows while it downloads the PDF when using the Adobe PDF plugin, it might take a while depending on the PDF size. give it a while, or try to view a PDF that you know is small.
Safari uses the Adobe Plugin in 32 bit mode (if present in the plugin folder), its internal renderer in 64 bit mode.
I am not sure, but I think you can only change 32/64 bit mode in Snow Leopard, in the info window for the application.
