Documents opened in Acrobat XI are hard to read

I apologize for this post being in the wrong forum.  Unfortunately, Adobe did not see fit to create a forum for the most basic problems.
Here is the problem:  Whenever I open a PDF with text in it, it is virtually unreadable to my eyes.  The pixelation and dimensions of the letters make the letters horrible to read.  To make the difference visible to you here are screen captures of the same document viewed using different apps.  (BTW, I am running Win 8-64 bit).
Windows Reader:
Acrobat XI View:
Acrobat 9 Pro View:
The difference should be obvious.  Moreover, I also replicated the same differential on both our Mac and out Win 8 32 bit, so the problem is inherent in Acrobat XI and not system nor machine related.
The problem extends across most but not all documents and means of accessing:  documents I receive, documents I create by using print>adobe.  HOWEVER, when I create straight from IE using the toolbar, I seem to get a better version sometimes.
This is really an issue when I am trying to read/form an e-book in PDF form.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Michael

I believe you have a preference setting in XI not set correctly.  In the Mac Version check the following:
In windows the setting may be named differen but should still be there. The item about Screen resolution could be set to automatic

  • Upscaled images look blurry, is there a way to sharpen them? In particular, zooming on pages with images that actually contain only text are hard to read.

I am zooming in on my homework in mastering physics. I am using a large screen and sitting far away. It uses a lot of images containing the text I need to read, but when the images are upscaled, they become very blurry and hard to read. A simple sharpen effect after it is resized would fix the problem. Is there a way to do this in firefox? like a command line switch or maybe something in about:config? Thanks

It may sound counter-intuitive, but could you try disabling graphics hardware acceleration? Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If you restart Firefox, is the issue resolved?

  • Suddenly double-clicking on a PDF document opens the Acrobat application but the document does not load.

Up until today I had no problem opening a PDF document that I have already saved by double-clicking on it.  Now when I do that, my Acrobat application opens, but the PDF document does not.  I need to use File/ Open to select the document I want to see, or I need to right mouse click on the PDF document and choose “Open with”.  I had this once before and I had help to resolve this, but I am using Acrobat 7 Professional and since it is not supported, I can’t get help when I call Support.

Sounds like a Windows problem. Try the right click and then select the ALWAYS open with feature. That is supposed to fix the link. If that does not work, open the file type menu under the TOOLS>Folder Options (XP view, may be other in VISTA). If you select advanced under PDF, you should get a link under the open>edit something like "c:\adobeapp\acrobat 5.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" "%1". The comment you make sounds like the %1 or the quotes are missing. Bill

  • Modify PDF documents to activate the "overprint preview"  the document opens in Acrobat 9 / X

    Hallo ,
I would like to modify PDF documents that the document automatically activate the “Overprint Preview” option if they opened by using Acrobat Reader, Acrobat Stand. or Acrobat Prof. Version 9 or X.
It is important that it makes no different what is selected at the General Preferences settings (K+STRG)--> Page Display --> “Use Overprint Preview”.
It is possible that the PDF File / Data change the settings to “always” at the General Preferences --> Page Display -->“Use Overprint Preview” settings.
Has anybody a good idea to solve this problem?
    Thanks for our help.
    Ralf

I had the same problem and my solution was to disable the PDF extension that came with Firefox 4 which belongs to another company. I found out that it wast interfering with ReaderX. I unabled it and restarted Firefox. I have had no problems since then. Go to Tools, Add-On and click on Extensions and disable the PDF extension. I hope this helps

  • Anybody can copy my signature from signed documents opened in Acrobat Reader. How do I prevent that?

The problem occurs when I take a word document in which I've pasted a jpeg of my signature and save it to pdf. I can go straight into Acrobat Reader and make a copy of the signature. That never used to happen. Is there some way to fix that? I see this as a major security problem.

It's always been quite easy to do so not sure why you think that.
You can't keep anyone from copying anything from a PDF document. At the very least they can do a screen grab.

  • Mouse Right Click Menus flash and are hard to read

I am using Windows 7, and on FF 14.0.1.
Basically, I am having the exact same issue as is described here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/753329?as=aaq
When I right click on menus, or when I go to the Firefox menu, the menu is bordered, but it is transparent. If I click on the location where a menu option is, that option is enabled (open new tab, etc). Or if I use the shortcut key, that also works.
    But it's a big pain.

Do you use a custom theme or any add-ons that customize menus?
This was helpful to some users in the other thread: did you try disabling graphics hardware acceleration? Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

  • Fonts are hard to read in some website

Until this evening I was using Firefox 36.0.4 as my default browser and everything was OK. After that I was curious to check Firefox 0.10 and installed it which overrides 36.0.4. After playing with 0.10, I again updated it into Firefox 36.0.4 and the problem started here!
Some of websites like yahoo are rendering font so badly that I even can't read them. But the point here is I haven't touched any config/option/profile in 0.10, just browsed google to see the interface. That's it. Now can you help me, how I can go back into normal font rendering.

hi, please create a new profile. i don't think that your existing one may have survived running under a 10 year old firefox - those things are obviously not downwards-compatible:

Just downloaded iOS 7. I already enlarged the email text which was tiny.  Can Safari be adjusted? The color scheme of the keyboard is way too pale. The darker  backgrounds were much easier to read. Does anyone know if this be be adjusted. Or did the designers assume customers are all teenagers with super vision?

  • L can't open Adobe Acrobat.

When I try to open Adobe Acrobat by clicking on a shortcut or by opening a pdf, nothing happens. The process shows up for a second and then dissappears. At some point in the past I received an error message along the lines of "Adobe cannot connect to a *** server" I don't remember exactly what kind of server, and I cannot seem to get that error message. I've tried to re-install it before, it worked for a while and now I'm getting this problem again.
I'm getting a similar problem in Adobe Digital Editions. I cannot authorize my account, it says I am not connected to the internet.

I cannot open Adobe Acrobat at all. Adobe reader is fine. The message did say something about not connecting to a dde server.
I am not on a workstation. I am on a regular laptop running Windows 7 Home x64.
I would also like a fix for the Digital Editions Authorization thing.

  • My verizon email with on firefox has very small letters, hard to read. HELP

My email messages are coming in in small letters and are hard to read. I am on verizon.

Please tell me what to do so the letters will be bigger and I can then read the messages.

Hi jeanbrasel, sorry you are having problems. I assume your problem is with the desktop version of Firefox. In that case try this.
Click the Firefox button in the upper left-hand corner. Click Options, then click the Content tab. Check the Fonts & Colors section to make sure that the default size is acceptable. If that is acceptable, then click the Advanced button and uncheck the box next to "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above". Then select a minimum size, such as 12. Here is a screenshot to help you. If that doesn't fix it, reply back!

  • Color screens text hard to read.

I have Color 1.5 had the text labels on all the screens are hard to read. This is true on the external monitor and also my Macbook Pro labtop screen??

The COLOR UI is fixed in resolution/font, etc. Its almost liveable at 17", but Apple recommends a Cinema Display. COLOR has a minimum screen resolution as one of its boot parameters, and this is (one of the reasons) why.

So I've been trying to open some Microsoft Word Documents and it says it can't be opened because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. What do I do about this?

    Workarounds:
    1.  Restore the OS X that you formerly used to run Word 2004;
    2.  Partition your hard drive or attach an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard (and Rosetta) so that you can "dual-boot" into Microsoft Word 2004;
    3.  Upgrade to Word 2011 or use an alternative program; or
    4.  The solution I use: Install Snow Leopard (and Rosetta) into Parallels 7 or 8:
