Does background rendering stop all waiting for it?

I have some "pre-sales" questions about Final Cut Pro X.
1. I have a Sony HDR-XR500 camera, and so when I import it into FCP X, the video would be transcoded to QuickTime on import, and optimized to ProRes.
Using the type of video described above, if I were to apply a green screen effect to it, as well as adjust the video's lows/mids/highs, would I immediately be able to play back the green screen video without waiting for any rendering, and without any jumpiness in the video?
You see, I am used to waiting long periods of time with Final Cut Express 4 for rendering to finish, before I can smoothly see the green screen effect. But reading about background rendering etc. with Final Cut Pro X sounds very good, and I was just wondering if it is really true that I no longer need to wait for rendering to complete to see the green screen effect run smoothly?
Note: I have a 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo Mac.

In reply to your question, "So would you recommend FCPX at this point?" Ahhhhh.....now there's the million dollar question. It's a question that has sparked some very heated debates, some with over 120,000 views!
All I can give you is my experience. This is where I'm coming from: I've been editing on a "prosumer" level for about 4 years with FCE. I bought FCPX about a week after it first came out. I've been "experimenting" with it for over 30 hours. I run FCPX on my iMac (10.6.8 with a 3.06 GHz processor, Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of memory). I use a LaCie external hard drive.
In those 30 hours I have never had the system crash, no spinning beach ball and everything has worked the way it should (there are others on this forum who have had problems but I don't know what their specs are).
For me FCPX is not buggy. It is missing some key "pro" features that were in FCP7. In my opinion probably most if not all of these features will be added over time with updates. Coming from FCE4 you are going to really like some of the more powerful features in FCPX that were not in FCE4. If you are like me I think you will find the UI (mainly the timeline) to be odd at first, it's really more like iMovie. As the world is full of change these days (remember the good old days when banks had customer service?) it's a good thing to learn new things.
Based on that I would go for it. I believe for you it will be a great step up.

I'm seriously thinking of downgrading back to Mavericks for one very specific reason - the Mail app. As a long-time Mail user, I've always had the Address Panel open down the left side of the Mail app, selected from the Window/Address Panel menu item. It showed a simple list of all contacts, or groups, and only the email address(es) associated with each one. Could select a group then click BCC or TO: or whatever. Could also select multiple addresses and pop them into the CC: list or wherever you liked. And within a Group (eg Work) could do multiple select, and also choose which email address to use for those who have more than one (eg work vs personal).
But - Apple seems to have removed it in Yosemite. The Mail app has NO WAY - at least that I can find - to access a simple list of contacts and email addresses from within the Mail app. What an absolutely stupid move, unless it's just me being dense and can't find it!
If anyone can point me to where or how to show that Address Panel in the Mail app, I'd be most grateful. Having Contacts app open all the time just doesn't cut it either, apart from not enough screen real estate. Contacts won't show you a simple list of people and email addresses like the Address Panel in Mail did. It shows you the full details, one at a time, for each contact. Which is absolutely NO good if I have to send out emails to 50 work colleagues, for example.
Why does Apple DO stuff like this? Like removing the sidebar in iTunes, for another example?
If I can't find an Address Panel for Mail, I'm going back to Mavericks. Anyone got any clues?

Where did you choose to download the install files too? This often occurs when choosing a location the Adobe Download Assistant does not have permission to write too. Please cancel the download and try again this time choosing the default location of your User folder.

While restoring Itouch with Itunes it stops at waiting for ipod

I updated my APPS from the App store last night and during that my itouch reset itself. Now it is stuck at the apple screen. When i follow the instruction to put it into restoration mode it stops at the screen that says, "Waiting for Ipod" I have followed alot of the suggestions people made. I even let it sit on the overnight. I have tried doing this on all 3 of my computers, Uninstalling and reinstalling itunes and even changing users. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions

recovery mode
open itunes on computer
plug cable into computer not iOS device
turn device off
hold home button and plug cable into IOS device. do not release home button until an itunes graphic appears on IOS device.
look to computer should have message about recovery mode click ok and restore

Why does File Explorer Seem to Wait for End-to-End Confirmation?

For quite a few versions now, when copying large blocks of files from place to place it seems like Explorer adds an arbitrary delay or maybe waits for confirmation internally that every file has been actually written to the disk before continuing.
On a modern computer with plenty of RAM for cache and a massively powerful SSD-based I/O system (capable of sustaining gigabytes per second of throughput),
why should we ever wait for a copy of a few hundred megabytes of files? Theoretically it should complete in a second or two.
In fact, back on XP one could observe exactly the behavior I'm describing - file transfers - especially on hard disk but even over the network - would proceed at a very breakneck pace.
Yet it's not uncommon to see miniscule transfer speeds while copying groups of files that even the oldest, cheapest hard drive could sustain...
What's the setting to have Explorer stop waiting and just get on with the copy, filling the cache with the data to be written later? Some of us don't want to wait that extra minute to get the job done. I know whomever programmed the cutesy
little graph wants to make sure we all see it, but...

Update of jlabel does not happen when i wait for thread to finish (join())

gurus please help.
I have a main application which in actionevent calls a thread, that thread calls parent method to update ths status in jlabel, but when i use thread.join() to wait for process to complete, the jlabel does not get updated, please tell me how can i update the jlabel, i have to wait for thread to finish and during run i need to update the jlabel.

Why does the rendering stop when exporting in Premier 2014?

I am running Premiere 2014 on Windows 7. I have a fairly simple sequence (without audio) that I'm trying to export in H264. Every time I attempt this, the progress bar stops at the same point and it never completes.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Break it apart and try to find the spot of stall. For example, if you get 3/4 through as your progress bar indicates, in/out or work area the first half and render out, then render out the last half. Or, render out the first half, then the next quarter, then the next eigth.

I would appreciate a lot your swift reply to this inquiry as I am not into Technology much and therefore need some guidance
I have purchased my Nokia N80 a few days ago. And when I tried to create a custom movie using the jpg images on my phone the following error message for several of the photos ensued:
(picture name).jpg format not supported?
The same happened after I downloaded an application from Nokia site called "nokia film makers.dcf".It fully downloaded but refused to be installed on the same former grounds that the format is not supported.
The inquiry is this:
Is this normal for the N80 model or is there something wrong with my personal mobile phone??
Concerning the images how does the phone state-on my attempting to create a movie- that the images format is not supported though they actually open properly in the gallery??
What can I do to overcome the previous 2 issues??

How, exactly, did you try to create a movie?
If I'm not mistaken, I think on the phone you can only use video clips (and not still images/photos) to make a movie. Or maybe you could take a video clip and add sections with stills, but I've never tried something like that myself.

After a new installation of Win7 64 bit, Office 2007 and iTunes 11.4.1.62 I am not able to sync 2 of iPhone 4s with Outlook.
In addition to the msgs in my question I should mention the following:
1) In the device window in iTunes there is a message "iTune is not paired with any device" BUT the iPhone communicates well with iTunes
2) the upgrade to latest iOS 7.1 didn't help
3) The same iPhones dont have sync or pairing problems on another PC whis Win7 32bit but the same outlook and iTunes

Is the hang happening when you're syncing calendars? If so, by any chance, do you have Eset security software (like Nod32) installed on the PC?

Background rendering when iMac is in standby mode

After I have imported a video file from my Sony HDR Z1 FCP X starts to render in background mode, when I am using the iMac all is fine but if I leave it overnight and the iMac "goes" to sleep" the rendering also stops. Is there a way to stop this so I can leave the machine to complete what it is doing before it goes to sleep?

When the machine is asleep, it is asleep, period.
If you want to give it time to finish rendering before it goes to sleep, open System Preferences->Energy Saver,
click on the "Schedule..." button and set a time for it to go to sleep.
Note: Depending on your mac and the content you are editing, you may not need background rendering at all. Many people prefer to leave background rendering off, and only render specific portions if the playback is not smooth (for instance if you have some effects on a given clip, that your mac cannot play well without rendering, you may want just to render that clip).
