Does field point have pulse train output greater than 50KHz

I am trying to develop a flexiable simulator using NI Field Point. So far my only concern is producing a pulse train of around 500KHz. Is there a way to do this with field points counter moudles or with some other methodology

There are currently no FieldPoint IO modules that output greater than 16 kHz. Specifically, the following modules can output at the listed maximum frequencies:
FP-CTR-500: 16 kHz
FP-CTR-502: 16 kHz
FP-PWM-520: 1 kHz
FP-PG-522: 2 kHz
You could use some external signal generation circuitry that is controlled by the FieldPoint modules, but the FieldPoint modules themselves can not handle that speed.

  • Auto adjustment of page orientation causes printing issues with documents that have a page width greater than its page height.

    Hi,
Since an upgrade from Word 2003 to Word 2010, we are experiencing printing issues with certain
documents that have a page width greater than its page height.
In Word 2003, it was no problem to set the page width greater than the page height while setting the page orientation to "portrait".
In Word 2010, this seems impossible: despite leaving the page orientation to "portrait", if one changes the page width/height as stated,
Word 2010 automatically adjusts the orientation to "landscape". Resetting the orientation to "portrait" will flip the page's width/heigth settings.
This behaviour causes printing problems: the page prints out 90° rotated.
I do not believe this is a printer driver issue: I tried several different printer drivers, and all give the same (bad) result. Setting the printer driver's page orientation settings (before printing) makes no difference, as
Word 2010 seems to force the page orientation settings.
Inserting the documents 90° rotated is not an option, since it causes problems with the printing margins.
This is very annoying, since we have to print official documents of a municipality (driver's licences).
Is there a workaround for this issue?

  • Can I generate pulse trains on more than one counter output at the same time?

I have a PCI 6601 card with a BNC 2121 to connect the signals to two devices. The card is used as a trigger for both devices and I want to be able to generate pulse trains on two output channels at the same time, with a time delay between the two. How do I do that in Labview 7.1 Development with DAQmx?

I feel foolish for not being able to figure this out, but it still doesn't work. Attached is the VI I use now. Counter 0 generates a finite pulse train and I programmed Counter 1 to generate a retriggerable single pulse triggered by CtrOinternaloutput. I still get the same error message: -50103 The specified resource is reserved. The operation could not be completed as specified.
The same happens if I set the trigger for counter 1 at PFI36 (default output of counter 0) or any other PFI line. If I try a pulse train generation on only one of the counters, both work fine.
If I try the example in traditional DAQ for multiple counter outputs with phase delay, it works fine.
Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

  • Finite pulse train Output

    Hi,
I am using a 6602 board and would like to generate a finite pulse train. I have used the example code from Labview (Finite Pulse Train NT-IO) and cannot see both outputs.
I mean I can see the enveloppe on counter +1 (gating counter +0) but cannot see the finite pulse train on Counter +0.

  • Does Field Point answer correctly to Ping ?

Our customer has made a 1H-cyclic Ping command from a PC-Win XP to a Field Point standard (1601) via Ethernet, in a way to be informed when the I/O is out of work.
Some times the Ping doesn't get any response, but the Field Point seems to work well. Can you confirm the ability of a Field Point to answer to a classic Ping command.
Thanks a lot for your response.
    Franck Dubreuil
    [email protected]

    Franck,
To the best of my knowledge, the FieldPoint ethernet modules should always respond to a ping. The cases I personally have seen in which there is no response to a ping is due to the processor being overloaded by the downloaded RT code ([c]FP-20xx series only), incorrect network settings (FP-160x and [c]FP-20xx modules), too much network traffic, corupted firmware, an offline network module and/or duplicated IP addresses.
Also, the ethernet network protocol used by FieldPoint does automatically include keep alive and status information. Depending upon the programming environment you are using, the status should be reported automatically. Thus the Pinging may be redundant.

  • PXI-6608: Typical accuracy & stability for a 10 Hertz pulse-train output ?

I need to generate a very accurate and stable
10 Hertz continuous pulse-train for a test system.
What typical frequency accuracy & stability
can expect to achieve from the PXI-6608 for
    a generated 10 Hertz continuous pulse-train.
I have read the specs ... just want to make
certain I am interpreting them correctly.
    Thanks!

    Hello there!
Though this was long time ago already I need confirmation on the same kind of calculations.
(However, in my case, I am measuring frequency, not reading, also with the 6608)
I thought the stability of 6608 OCXO was 75ppb per year (or 45ppb as stated in the OCXO notes). So therefore 11.25ppb/day. Not 0.45ppb/day.
In any case, if the stability of the OCXO is 75ppb :
    - Stability on the 10Mhz clock: 10,000,000*75/1,000,000,000 = 0.75Hz
The question is, if you measure a 10Hz signal with this device, will you have a 0.75Hz accuracy? Or would you have the accuracy of the clock that you use to MEASURE (using a 100Khz timebase):
    - Stability on time base: 100,000*75/100,000,0000 = 0.0075Hz
So apart from my measurement error (according to http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3619) I have to add up this error like this:
    TOTAL ERROR = MEASUREMENT ERROR + CLOCK ERROR = X + 0.0075hZ
Being XX the calculated error made by the frequency estimation algorithm.

  • How to make the width of powershell script's output greater than 80 column?

    Hi,
I am trying to remotely execute a powershell script through ssh, and I found the output of my script is only 80 width, a carriage-return and a line-feed are inserted after 79th column, and continue presenting the 80th value of each row onto another line.
I want it greater than 80, such as 512.
The code to print the output in my script is like:
    $allInfo | ConvertTo-Xml -as Stream -NoTypeInformation -Depth 1
Any help will be really appreciated!

But when I run the powershell script manually, I get the following error message, I do not know why, but anyway, my problem is resolved.
Exception setting "BufferSize": "Cannot set the buffer size because the size specified is too large or too small.
    Parameter name: value

Yeah, that's a good question.  I get the same thing here.  The longer solution the post covers which I've included below does work interactively, and looking at the differences it appears to be related to the buffer height.  My guess is when
the existing console window already has more rows in the buffer than the 25 rows in height the command tries to define, this error occurs.
    if( $Host -and $Host.UI -and $Host.UI.RawUI ) {
    $rawUI = $Host.UI.RawUI
    $oldSize = $rawUI.BufferSize
    $typeName = $oldSize.GetType( ).FullName
    $newSize = New-Object $typeName (500, $oldSize.Height)
    $rawUI.BufferSize = $newSize

  • File output greater than HD

    Hello,
I need to render a file that is 2160x7680 from After Effects CC.
I can only managed this as a .MOV and an uncompressed AVI (Massive file resulting in playback issues).
Is there any other files that I can render to that gives me not massive filesizes and good playback/quality? Ideally an MP4 would have been nice but I assume this is impossible.
    Thanks

This is the spec of the PC playing back to the video wall...
    CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-4770S Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.9 GHz)
    Memory: 2x8GB (16GB total)
    Hard Drive: Intel® SSD 520 Series 120GB
Gfx Card: VisionTek AMD Radeon HD7870
Video output config: 4 mini-DP outputs from Gfx Card
The memory is a bit low - surely 64gb or 128gb would be better for this.
The AMD graphics card only has 2GB of RAM - would having a better GPU with more RAM improve performance of the video?

  • I want to create a TTL pulse. The stepper motor I'm trying to control responds to a high to low edge, when the low pulse width is greater than 0.5 microseconds. What is the best way to go about creating a pulse like this?

I'm using the NI PCI-6025E card connected to an SCB-100 wiring peripheral. I'm programming the DAQ card using LabVIEW 6.0.2 on a win95 box.
My first attempt has yielded some surprising results.
I created a vi with a single while loop set to true. Within that while loop is a two frame sequence. Both frames use the "Write to Digital Line.vi".
The first frame sets the line in wire to false.
The second frame sets the line in wire to true.
The device channel on both frames has been set to my user defined channel nam
    e -> clock.
clock --> sets the DIO0 channel to be digital write out.
Using an oscilloscope and some wires I hook ground to the SCB-100's digital ground and I hook the probe to the DIO0 channel. What I see are two different pulses alternating between one another. One has a pulse width of 5ms and the other has a pulse width of about 50ms. You seem to get a grouping of one type of pulse followed by a grouping of the other type of pulse.
Obviously this is very strange and not what I want. It is also far too slow. So I'd like to know if anyone knows how to do this properly. Remember I only need a low pulse width of 0.5 microseconds.
    Thanks,
Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.
    Scott

    Scott,
You don't need to use a digital line to create a TTL pulse. The PCI-6025E has two onboard general purpose counters. You can use one of these counters to create a single pulse of the desired pulse width. For an example of how to program the counters on your board, refer to LabVIEW's Search Examples>>I/O Interfaces>>Counters>>Pulse Generation>>DAQ-STC based.
The advantage of using a counter over the digital line is that it allows you to control the timing of the pulse through hardware and not software. Thus, it is inherently faster, and the timing resolution is more accurate. The counter will count down an internal 20 MHz timebase to create the pulse delay and the pulse width.
For more information on the hardware capabilities of your board, you can refe
r to the User Manual online at www.ni.com/manuals.
    Hope this helps.

  • Trigged generation of two pulse trains

I have to write an application that will generate two equal pulse trains (with a given phase difference) on two different counters when I recieve a trigger signal. I'm using a 6063daq-card. If anyone have an related example, or some hint on how to solve this (elementary problem) please let me know.

    Hi OG,
Although this functionality is present on NI-TIO counter/timer chips (NI-660x boards) by use of an initial delay within the counters (could program a delay equal to the desired phase shift) this is not available on DAQ-STC chips (E Series boards). This is because DAQ-STC counters do not support an initial delay in pulse train generation mode (driver doesn't support it).
The only way I see this happening is if you use the frequency generator on the E Series to generate your first pulse train (output on the freq_out pin) and use your two main counters to generate 1) a triggered and delayed pulse which will gate 2) your second counter which is a pulse train of the same frequency. To get the phase correct, your delay of the pulse should be equal to t
he desired phase shift of your pulse train period and should be gated/triggered by one of the rising edges of your frequency generator pulse train. The actual pulse width of this single pulse should be made as large as possible (or should toggle the output - see the 2nd knowledge base linked below). I have included a couple good references to get you started. Hope that helps. Have a good day.

  • Does specified lsn should greater than or less than min_autonosync_lsn when setting up a "initialize from lsn" subscription?

    Hello,
For setting up a "initialize from lsn" type subscription successfully, Does the lsn for @subscriptionlsn parameter need greater than or less than the  min_autonosync_lsn (syspublications) ?
I read two versions of this: one is lsn >min_autonosync_lsn ,the other is lsn <min_autonosync_lsn. I agree lsn >min_autonosync_lsn.
    Thanks

Basically it means that the lsn should be retrievable somewhere in the distribution database.  So it has to be> than the min otherwise you would need to reinitialize.
Note that this is only important when you are mirroring the subscription database.

    Hi Everyone,
I have a program that sends information(analog output) to lab windows cvi in the form of a text file or user input.
The program runs on the computers that I have the field point explorer and lab windows cvi installed on. In order to run the program without always installing labwindows/cvi and field point; I wanted to create an executable file that could be load on another computer.
I used the create distribution kit part of labwindows/cvi to do this. After creating the distribution kit, I then installed it
    to another computer.
My user interface appears on the screen, when the user clicks on the exe. file, but no data is sent to the field point module. I know that the data is being read from the user and textfile because in it appears in the uir.
The following are some details about the problem:
    1. On another computer without labwindows/cvi and field point explorer not installed - no data is sent to field point module
I know this because a current is being read on the current meter connected to field point module.
    My questions are the following:
    1. What are the possible reasons for the data not being sent to the field point module?
    2. Do I still need to create an iak. (Installing Field point Explorer) file stored on any new computer that I install my created distribution kit file too?
Thankyou very much for any help that you can provide. I greatly appreciate it.

    1) If you do not install FieldPoint Explorer, the FieldPoint Server is not installed so there is nothing on the target computer that knows how to talk to the FieldPoint system.
    2) Yes, you need an IAK file on the target computer. Assuming the settings (i.e. com port#) are identical you can simply include the iak file as part of the distribution.
    3) You also need to include as part of your installer the file "fplwmgr.dll". If this file is not installed, your program will not be able to access the FieldPoint Server. Alternatively, this file is installed automatically if FieldPoint Explorer detects LabWindows/CVI or Measurement Studio Development versions on the target computer or if you choose to do a custom FieldPoint Explorer installation and
    choose to provide LabWindows/CVI support.

    Jorg,
I noticed that you claimed to be using the module in 0-20mA mode, yet the reading you are seeing is 3.5mA. This is the minimum value (with overranging) when the module is set to 4-20mA mode. My guess is that your module is defaulting back to 4-20mA mode, but your IAK file still thinks the module is in 0-20mA mode. You can verify this by using the find devices button in FieldPoint Explorer and then trying to write to the channel.
To fix this problem, you should use the snapshot feature to change the default power-up mode for that channel.

  • Can I collect the pulse data using Field Point?

I have a water flow meter, which outputs pulses. I use a counter to connect it and read the data. Now, I want to read and save the data in the computer using LabView and Field Point. I think this can be done if I can collect the number of pulse. I am wondering how to do that.
    Thanks.

    Dear Zl,
Counting pulses is much easier with the FP-QUAD-510 or FP-CTR-500, but can be done with the FP-AI-110.  You can't directly count the pulses with a FP-AI-110, but you can do it in software. Bring in the data by doing a normal read. Then, using shift registers, if the previous voltage is less than .8V (low) and the current voltage is more than 2.5 (high), increase the pulse count. I have attached a program that shows what to do with the data once you bring it in. I took the data from an array outside the while loop, but your data will be brought in one point at a time inside the while loop. One thing to take note of, since Fieldpoint brings in data at 1 kS/s, this will only work with pulses slower than 500 Hz. The farther the duty cycle is away from 50% duty cycle, the slower the signal must be in order to catch the pulses correctly. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    Marni

I am making Time Duration outputs to a PG-522 Module. SOmetimes, even when I have no output the activity light stays on all the time. The only way to clear it is to reset the Field Point Communications. What could Cause this to happen?

    Hi Pat,
The activity light does not tell you if your channel is in the ON or OFF state.  It tells you if the channel is generating pulses.  According to the manual, if you  are using the 1s resolution the max ON/OFF time is 65,535s.  This could cause the activity light to stay on while it looks like you have no output.
