Does MM_EKKO archive write job lock the tables?

We run MM_EKKO archiving twice a week. From my understanding the write job just read the data and write it to archive files. But we run Replenishment jobs which hit EKPO tables, the jobs run slow, and I noticed that the archive write job is holding the locks on this table. As soon as I cancelled the write job, the replenishment jobs move faster. why this happens? Archive write jobs should not be causing any performance issues, only the delete jobs will impact the performance. Am I correct? Is any one experiencing similar issues?

Hi Sam,
Interesting question! Your understanding is correct, write job just reads the data from tables and writes it into archive files... but....write job of MM_EKKO (and MM_EBAN) is a bit different. The MM_EKKO write job also takes care of setting the deletion indicator (depending on whether its a one step or two step archiving. So its possible that it puts a lock during the process of setting the deletion indicator, as its a change to database.

The CO_COSTCTR archiving write job fails with the error messages below.

Diagnosis
An error has occurred when writing the archive file \\HOST\archive\SID\CO_COSTCTR_201209110858 in the file system. This can occur, for example, as the result of temporary network problems or of a lack of space in the fileing system.
The job logs do not indicate other possible causes. The OS and system logs don't have either. When I ran it in test mode it it finished successfully after long 8 hours. However, the error only happens during production mode where the system is generating the archive files. The weird thing, I do not have this issue with our QAS system (db copy from our Prod). I was able to archive successfully in our QAS using the same path name and logical name (we transport the settings).
Considering above, I am thinking of some system or OS related parameter that is unique or different from our QAS system. Parameter that is not saved in the database as our QAS is a db copy of our Prod system. This unique parameter could affect archiving write jobs (with read/write to file system).
I already checked the network session timeout settings (CMD > net server config) and the settings are the same between our QAS and Prod servers. No problems with disk space. The archive directory is a local shared folder \\HOST\archive\SID\<filename>. The HOST and SID are variables which are unique to each system. The difference is that our Prod server is HA configured (clustered) while our QAS is just standalone. It might have some other relevant settings I am not aware of. Has anyone encountered this before and was able to resolve it?
We're running SAP R3 4.7 by the way.

We tried a couple of times already. They all got cancelled due to the error above. As much as we wanted to trim down the variant, the CO_COSTCTR only accepts entire fiscal year. The data it has to go through is quite a lot and the test run took us more that 8 hours to complete. I have executed the same in our QAS without errors. This is why I am bit confused why in our Production system I am having this error. Aside that our QAS is refreshed from our PRD using DB copy, it can run the archive without any problems. So I made to think that there might be unique contributing factors or parameters, which are not saved in the database that affects the archiving. Our PRD is configured with High availability; the hostname is not actually the physical host but rather a virtual host of two clustered servers. But this was no concern with the other archiving objects; only in CO_COSTCTR it is giving us this error. QAS has archiving logs turned off if it’s relevant.
Archiving 2007 fiscal year cancels every after around 7200 seconds, while the 2008 fiscal year cancels early around 2500 seconds. I think that while the write program is going through the data in loops, by the time it needs to access back the archive file, the connection has been disconnected or timed out. And the reason why it cancels almost consistently after an amount of time is because of the variant, there is not much variety to trim down the data. The program is reading the same set of data objects. When it reaches to that one point of failure (after the expected time), it cancels out. If this is true, I may need to find where to extend that timeout or whatever it is that is causing above error.

Lock the table by user with grant only for select

It is possible that the user has rights only for SELECT, do not lock the table? Now, where do "SELECT * FROM table FOR UPDATE", does not make the change, but it locks the entire table, and another user to get into it.

Newby: locking the table on a SELECT?
I have just downloaded SQL developer and have been using it to look at the back end of my work database, but it seems just as I started browsing through tables (by clicking on them in the tree explorer) people started getting kicked out of their front end applications. When I stopped, they stopped getting kicked out. Does my viewing a table lock that table? I have tried also through select tables, and I am not sure about whether it leaves the transaction open and locks the table, or not? Also, because of this I am unsure about the commit button (since it removes all the data when pressed). Can someone please enlighten me. thanks
Along the same line as the database connection limit:
If you are logged in as the same username as the other users, you could be hitting a limit on the username that you are logged in with.
To find the limits specified for a user:
SELECT * FROM sys.dba_profiles where resource_type != 'PASSWORD' AND profile in (select profile from all_users where username = :username) ORDER BY profile;
The most likely value above to check is 'SESSIONS_PER_USER'
There are other possibilities aside from specific user limits, so you may want to check with your dba to find out what you are running up against. The only other thing that I can think of is open cursor limits since I believe that viewing a table opens a cursor.

Lock Object (Not locking the table)

I have a custom table ZDRAD same like standard table DRAD with an additional 'DATE' field . ZDRAD's Key fields are same like DRAD . I have created a lock object 'EZDRAD' where I put name = 'ZDRAD' (Custom table) and mode = 'EXCLUSIVE CUMULATIVE' . Now I want to lock the table(Whole table) before modifying/Inserting/deleting the records in se38. after locking i inserted some data into table, after insertion i am not commiting it because if i commit,the lock will be release.next i am trying to insert data into that table from another system,acutually the data don't insert.but data is inserted. how it is happening like that ??
in another scenario, if execute the locking query on the database directly then trying to insert into database through java application, at that time it is not giving permission to access table.

I am new to using Numbers, or any spreadsheet for that matter, so I'm pretty baffled.
I created a table to use in my lesson planning, as I found inserting a table into a Pages document didn't serve my purposes. The table looks great, but here's my problem:
I created a large area in the middle of the page in which to type text by merging a whole whack of cells. I did this as it seemed like the best way to create a large area but still maintain the integrity of the format of the page. The problem, however, is that I have no clue how to lock the table - to set the table so that none of the cells change size when I insert text. I have been typing in the text, and the cell keeps expanding, and I have no idea why - I haven't reached the "end" of the cell so I'm not sure why it's not just staying the same size.
I tried to read through the user guide, but I wasn't able to find what I'm looking for.

Without knowing more about why you need a large text area in the middle of your table, it's a little difficult to suggest solutions. In general though, it's not a good idea to Merge Cells just for visual effect. Having affected all those rows and columns will cripple any future efforts to sort the table, or to add or delete rows and columns. You could Insert a Text Box and put your prose there. Position the text box anywhere you like - even over the middle of the table - without causing any future problems with the table.
Generally we want table cells to expand when we run out of room while making input. I assume that you already have turned on the Wrap feature in the Cells Inspector so that you get more than one line in the cell. You can begin with an oversize cell by dragging the borders of the labels. Beyond that, with Wrap turned on, Numbers will (as you have noticed) accommodate all your input by expanding the height of the cell.

While optimization of the Program i came through one type of coding is in inside the Loop of The internal table which is processing BDC call transcation through updating the Custom table.
Before processing the BDC, the Custom table has been locked and read the entries from same custom table ,if the process fails then it waits for another 20 seconds and retrying the same for another time .I could not able to understand the Logic behind this.if it is not the Correct way then i can straight away remove this Part which is very well improve the perfromance of the Object.

Hi All,
I have a cube in which i'm using the TIME DIM that i created in the warehouse. But now i wanted a new measure in the cube which is Average over time and when i wanted to created the new measure i got a message that no time dim was defined, so i created a
new time dimension in the SSAS using wizard. But when i tried to process the new time dimension i'm getting the follwoing error message
"Errors in the high-level relational engine. The data source view does not contain a definition for "SSASTIMEDIM" the table or view. The Source property may not have been set."
Can anyone please tell me why i cannot create a new measure average over the time using my time dimension? Also what am i doing wrong with the SSASTIMEDIM, that i'm getting the error.

According to your description, you get the above error when processing the time dimension. Right?
In this scenario, since you have updated the DSV, it should have no problem on the table existence. One possibility is that table has been specified for tracking in the notifications for proactive caching, but isn't available any more for some
reason. Please change the setting in Proactive Caching into "MOLAP".

I am writing a program in java/swing which has several "layers" of panels. In the constructor method of the frame (using JInternalFrame) I create a new instance of JTable, place it inside JScrollPane which is then inside JSplitPane and then place that as the frame content pane.
In this program I run an sql command and the table is the result from that. Every time I execute a query it should update the table with the new results.
What is bothering me now is that when I execute a query I call new JTable() on the variable that held the JTable() object created on startup. When I create a new instance of JTable() and place it in this variable nothing seems to happen. What I need is some kind of "refresh" button. I tried to construct the whole window again but then the program started behaving odd so I gave up that method.
So, does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks in advance!You really need to use a table model. The table you created is great and once that is in you shouldn't mess with it. Instead, when you create the table be sure to create it sort of like this:
DefaultTableMode dtm = new DefaultTableModel(<various constrcutors use the one suited for you>);
JTable table = new JTable(dtm);
To set different data on the table set it in the table model and then refresh the table, also through the table model. This works perfectly every time.

Incomplete Data on report (report does not show all records from the table)
Hello,
I have problem with CR XI, I'm running the same report on the same data with simple select all records from the table (no sorting, no grouping, no filters)
Sometimes report shows me all records sometimes not. Mostly not all records on the report. When report incomplete sometimes it shows different number of records.
I'm using CR XI runtime on Windows Server 2003
Any help appreciated

- Which CR SDK are you using? The Report Designer Component or the CR assemblies for .NET?
- What is the exact version of CR you are using (from help | about)
- What CR Service Pack are you on?
And a troubleshooting suggestion:
Since this works on some machines, it will be a good idea to compare all the runtime (both CR and non CR) being loaded on a working and non working machines.

I have been using Thunderbird to send e-mail newsletters to members of an organization I work for. To do that, I have been using tables to make a coherent looking newsletter. Suddenly, sometime recently in an update or something, ALL OF THE TEXT that is inside the table comes out larger when it is sent. So all my formatting goes to hell. Anything that is OUTSIDE a table, however, looks the same as when I typed it, so it isn't the general formatting of Thunderbird. I have to save everything as a draft (several times, usually) just to try to get it to look right.
I am including two screenshots to illustrate what I mean. The first, called "compose.jpg" shows how I had to adjust the font size to make the tables work as I had intended. This is what I see when I am composing an email newsletter, not the larger font that appears once the email is saved. The second, called "draft.jpg" shows how this same (exact) email looks when it is saved or sent. (This one is saved as a draft.) Notice that the text at the bottom of the message has NOT been enlarged because it is outside the table.No, the signature is not the issue, it is only an example of the issue. Compare the text size in the "compose" image with that in the "draft" image. For whatever reason, text placed in a table is magnified to be much larger than what I see when I compose it. But ONLY in a table. This means that I must juggle the size of the text after I prepare an e-mail newsletter (using tables for formatting) or it won't look like I expect it to.
This only began to happen sometime late last fall, which is why I wonder if it came as a by-product of some update. What I would like is to be able to specify that the text size I enter in the table remains that size when the email with the table is sent, preferably as a permanent specification, and not necessary every time I do one of these. -
