I've got mixed answers from Apple Support and their engineers.  The engineers might not understand the question, but it is simple.
Again, Apple only provides the most minimum of details possible, so there are no technical specs to fall back on.
By referring to it as a Headphone jack we can infer you can plug in a headset and listen to iTunes.  Researching further I find you can plug in a 3.5 mm Headphone, provided you get a connection that follows the four connector Apple standard.
Since a headphone has a microphone I would assume that means the headphone jack can support input.  For example, spoken words.  Will the headphone jack support a 3.5 mm Apple specific wire connected to the MacBook and the other end to another device like an MP3 player, but using the proper four wire configuration for the MP3 Player?
If so, what application is available on the MacBook Pro to get the analog data and then manipulate it into something digital?

Use a USB audio device, the Mac only has a headset/mic combo input, the quality is OK for that but not much else.

  • With "Do Not Disturb" active, why does the iPhone beep when plug in for recharge?

With "Do Not Disturb" active, why does the iPhone beep when plug in for recharge?
I usually go to bed after my wife. I have the Do Not Disturb set for 11 pm to 7 am, and I can see the moon symbol.
So why when I go to bed at midnight and plug in my iPhone to recharge do I get a LOUD BEEP?
My wife is banning my phone from being next to my bed and an alarm clock.
To me it seems that the "Do Not Disturb" should turn this beep into a vibrate.

    section2i:
If that is true, then you should file that as a bug using the link above:
If I am reading what you are saying correctly, you are saying that when vibrate is 'off', and you turn on the phone and plug it in that a vibration occurs, and that it is not respecting the vibrate 'off'.
That would be a slightly different issue from what I am asking about (Do Not Disturb), and would probably need a separate bug report.

  • Belle and the 3,5mm headphone connector

With symbian Anna i had set "Headset" as default for the 3,5mm connector. After plugging in a stereo 3,5mm cable, my N8 asked me what mode i wanted (so i was able to chose from "Headphones" and "Music stand").
With Nokia Belle it always uses the default option even if that would be "Headset". If i want to switch from "Headphones" to "Music stand" i have to change the default option before plugging in.
Is there a way to set nothing as default so the phone asks for a connection mode when plugging in a 3,5mm connector?

Doesn't look like you can. When you plug in some headphones it automatically goes into that mode regardless. TV-out has stopped working as well, even if it's set as default the phone still goes into headphone mode.

  • How to configure 6533 both as input as well as output

    Hello,
I am using 6533 for acquiring data from the peripheral. I am recieving 16 bit data(so i am using port 0 and 1) . i am using pattern generation mode for acquiring the data.i am writing the application on vc++. Now i am required to use the one line in the remaining 16 bit(first bit of port 3) as output port. Can some one me how to configure the port in vc++. which API to be used DIG_grp_congif,DIG_prt_config??????
    waiting for reply
    praveen

    Hi Praveen,
You would want a combination of NI-DAQ function calls for input and for output. NI-DAQ ships with example programs for digital input and output for VC++ as long as you installed support for VC++ with your install of NI-DAQ.
You can do a repair on your install by going to Add/Remove Programs and adding the support from there. If you already have the support installed for it, you'll find your examples in the following directory: "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\Examples\VisualC".
The two examples you'll want to merge are:
    1) DIdoubleBufPatternGen653x
    2) DOdoubleBufPatternGen653x
Hope that helps. Have a good day.

  • Does the AD-43 headphone remote work with the N82?

I just seen one really cheap so would like to snap it up.
    Will it work though?
If not, what are the other options for headphone remotes I can plug my Sony Phontopias into that fit the N82
    cheers.

Yes it works. I tested it a few weeks ago.

  • Does the late '09 24" iMac minidisplay port allow for video input as well as output?

    Greetings,
I own a 24" 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with the Nvidia 9400 card.  It's nearing the end of it's gaming life but I still want to use it for everything else after I get my new tower.  Everything I can find in reguards to using an iMac as a monitor for a different computer references the 27" iMac one model newer than my current computer.  Is the minidisplay port on my machine able to accept an input or am I forced to get a subpar monitor for my 2nd machine?  Thanks!
    ~Dan

Only the 27" can be used in target display mode.

  • Does the iPad allow for mutli-channel input for Music Recording Apps?

I know there are a few apps out now that have 8 track recorders but I've never used them. I plan on using garageband for iPad since I'm 'seasoned' with it and looks alot nicer than Amplitube. The question is, If I use the camera kit for it's USB, will it accept USB Interfaces w/2+ inputs or USB Mixer?

I'm not a concert muscian. However, I've used my iPad for piano music. It worked fine for me. I believe the app I used is called Etude. However, I don't recall if you can import your own music into that program or not.
The other issue I can see is that the iPad is, compared to sheet music, rather heavy. It's fine on the music stand of a piano. It would probably be okay on one of the music stands I used to use when I played in an orchestra (they were black metal). I think, though, that it wouldn't be trustworthy on a folding music stand. If sheet music falls to the floor, you just pick it up. If an iPad falls down, it might break.
    Best of luck.

  • Does the MacBook Pro have an audio input?

Looking to take output from external source (cable box) and run into my MacBook Pro.  Can I do this?  What application would I run on the computer to listen to the input?

    Hi starbux48,
Yes, on the 17" MBP you have a dedicated line and line out.  Take a look at the sides of your MBP, and you should see two 1/8" jacks, one has a headphone picture and the other something else.  This "something else" is your audio input.  Just get a cable that has an 1/8" jack on one side, and stereo RCA (assumed for a cable box) on the other.  I am not very familiar with Macs and audio recording, but I would imagine that whatever you intend to use to record will have a setting to select your MBP's audio input as the source.  Good luck!

  • Does the 15" non-retina MBP accept 16 gigs of ram?

most of people who i asked told me that you can, but i read on one of the apple support articles that 8 is the maximum.

    2011 Macbook Pro = 16GB DDR3 1333MHz 204 PIN SODIMM
    2012 Macbook Pro = 16GB DDR3 1600MHz 204 PIN SODIMM
    2010 Macbook PRO = 8GB DDR3 1066MHz 204 PIN SODIMM - unless it's a 13 Inch 2010 Macbook PRO - then you can upgrade to 16GB DDR3 1066MHz 204 PIN SODIMM.
use Apple Certified/Tested RAM to avoid complications/issues when you install them.

  • HT201342 does the icloud addres become my apple ID as well

Apple have emailed me to say I can now use @icloud.com email address instead of my @me.com email address.  It has also appeared on my mac and iphone as an optional email address which I can set as default if I wanted to.  My @me.com email address is currently my apple ID as well for icloud etc and I wondered if I swap to @icloud.com email address do I have to use this for my icloud and apple ID as well and if so will it have all the same information etc in there i.e the contacts, diary and email etc?  Plus will my purchases all be there as if I was still using my @me.com email address?

You can use either your @me.com or @icloud.com address. They are interchangeable. Anywhere you can log in with your @me.com address you can now login with your @icloud.com address.
You are not swapping from @me.com to @icloud.com. It is still the same account, with all the same info and purchases. It is simply an additional email address you can use in addition to your existing @me.com address, if you want to.

  • Is DisplayPort an input as well as output on macbook pro?

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro 17" and i know that it has Thunderbolt/DisplayPort. i know the cinema displays use displayport input and the macbook can provide the output signal for an external monitor, however i want to do just the opposite and use my macbook pro screen as a display for my xbox360.  I was looking at the Atlona DP300 which converts and scales a 1080p HDMI signal to a 1920x1200 resolution output in the form of display port, however im trying to find out if my macbook pro could accept this signal. the maximum resolution of my screen is 1920x1200.  if this is possible, what software would need to be used since i know the input would have to actually be through the operating system as the screen will not operate independently.
    thanks a bunch

    Hi a,
That's an interesting question. On the Thunderbolt page (http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt/) it says "Which means you can connect external devices like . . . video capture solutions directly to MacBook Pro or iMac — and get PCI Express performance," and lists "Video Capture: Blackmagic UltraStudio 3D, Matrox MX02." Note that BUS 3D is "only $995," and the MX02 only twice that much!
So, it sounds like the potential is there, but I think you've asked the operative question: "what software would need to be used?" And I suspect that at this point in time, although the hardware potential is there, the software to control exactly what you want to do, with the hardware you want to use, is not.
Somebody's always got to be the first one to try something, so maybe s/he already has and will post here. If not, and you give it a try, I hope we'll hear from you. Good luck to you.

  • How does the new Combined audio in/out on 13" work?

Can you have audio in/out simultaneously (analog)?
Does it only do analog in?
This feels so oldschool (shelling out more for the audio card with 'full duplexing').

Here's another (completely unforeseen) benefit of the iMic for me: my Late-'08 unibody MBP's headphone port, while it works perfectly with my headphones, doesn't seem to make good contact with the plug on a long headphone extension cord that I sometimes use to connect my MBP to my home theater system. If I move the cord or jiggle the computer slightly, the audio signal to the receiver gets dropped and I have to wiggle the plug in the headphone port to get it back again, with much crackling and consequent wear and tear on my speakers. Very annoying, and inexplicable because the plug appears to be absolutely standard.
iMic to the rescue: I plug the extension cord into the iMic's output instead of the computer's headphone port, and all is well.

  • 3.5mm headphone jack also optical?

A long time ago, I read somewhere that the 3.5mm headphone jack on some Apple devices is also an OPTICAL port. In other words, one of these adapters can output via TOSLINK cable to my hi-fi stereo optical in. Is it true for the iPad Air? Howz about the iPad Air 2?

That's probably why I can't find the spec for it.
But what Apple device has it? Any?
