Does the screen brightness decrease the overall life?

I have a MBP Unibody and a LED Cinema Display... I am just wondering if having both set to maximum brightness will decrease the lifetime of the hardware?

If you do a Google search on LED Display technology, you'll find that the advantage over a standard lighted LCD displays is that light output DOES NOT degrade over time. Meaning running your display at FULL brightness will not shorten it's life or make the display 'dim' over time. Having an LED display ON, regardless of brightness will shorten it's life, but LEDs last 5 to 10x longer than the standard CF lights normally used.
Unless you plan on having it on 24x7 ALL the time, an LED backlight will outlast the useful life of the display you're using. Set it to automatically go to sleep when you're not using it and don't worry about about how high the brightness is. It will be just as bright 5 years from now as the day you bought it.

  • How does the extended life battery (TV08) work? Does it kick in once the primary battery is dead?

I just received my extended life battery.  Following the "instructions", I was able to attach it to the bottom of my laptop.
    I left it charging overnight.
Today, I unplugged my AC adapter and ran on battery.  After a couple of hours, my primary battery completely discharged.  I was expecting the extended life battery to "kick-in".  It did not.  My computer completely shut-down.
My question is, am I missing something on how to use this extended life battery or do I have a defective battery.
My laptop is a Probook 6455b.
    Thank you.

I have an elitebook 6930p & am trying to use it with the TV08 battery as well.  The battery seems to work with the laptop, but makes a buzzing noise when in use (this does not happen with just the TD06 battery or when plugged into the docking station)
I called tech support & they told me the battery (being 14v) would overheat with the laptop.   Everything I can find on HP's site says the TV08 would be the correct extended battery for the laptiop.... does anyone know what the issue might be (with the buzzing, or which battery should be used)?
According to your service manual the tv08 (534063-291) is only for use on japan model 6930p elitebooks, chapter 3 page 28.

  • Why does the Battery life of my iPhone 4 doesn't last as long as it used to before updating my software to iOS 6? Can this problem be fixed?

    Hey there,
I have upgraded the iOS on my iPhone 4 to the iOS 6 and now my battery life doesn't last as long as it use to. I read something about Safari syncing some currupted bookmarks and whatnot. I basically need to know how could I fix this problem. I know that the iphone needs to have a decent perfomance regarding the battery life, since I've had it for less than 6 months now.
    Any help will be appreciated!

  • N96 screen brightness decreasing randomly!!!

I got a new N96 .When I got into the menu the screen appears bright then slowly the brightness is decreasing
And when I get into the setting of the screen there seems 4 part for the brightness setting but the most darkne 2 ones seems at the same level of brightness
Please help me is there any update that prevent and fix this problem.Or does anyone have the same problem?
    Thanxxxx

Any luck with resolving this blackout problem?
Just started with my early 2008 macbook, 10.6.8 (which doesn't have the "Automatically adjust brightness" function, darn). Don't know if this has anything to do with setting computer and display to "never" sleep two weeks ago. I can get screen brightness back if I play around with pressing the dim button all the way down and then pressing the brighten button. The brightness will eventually increase with the command. Brightness lasts for varying lengths of time, from a few seconds to ~2 minutes.

  • The battery life is going down fast

I bought a Macbook Pro about four days ago and I used it for about two cycles (In the 'system information' panel it is saying two cycles) and the battery life is at 96% in iStat Pro so I though that the percentage is going down rapidly...
And I saw on the apple website that the batteries are made to get some great performance up to 1000 cycles without going under 80% of battery life...
Does the battery life will stop decreasing or is it will keep the same decreasing speed ? Othewise if it keeps the same stats it will be at 80% after 10 cycles...
    Thanks

Have you tried calibrating the battery (as in the readings accuracy)? It appears that the battery life %age fluctuates up and down from what I am seeing on mine. At times it would go down to 96% on Health, both on istats and coconut, as of now my battery health reading says 99%, earlier today it said 96%. I come to think that this is normal and I would not worry about it. Keep using your MBP for a while and see what happens. My cycle says 13 btw.

  • Does setting the screen brightness to the MAX shorten the life of the LCD?

On daytime I set it to about 80%. That's bright enough.
Also, another thing I noticed was I tried to cover the speakers with my hands. The keyboard lit up a little bit but the screen dimmed down. Is it normal?

While setting the brightness to maximum doesn't shorten the LCD's actual lifespan it does however, I believe, speed up the degradation on how bright your screen will be.
As for when you cover the speakers… yes, this is normal. What's happening is that the ambient light sensors (which are under the grilles, are picking up a reduction is ambient light and in doing so is setting the screen brightness down and activating the backlit keyboard.

I guess the Windows drivers are unsuitable!!
Did you find a solution in the meantime?

    I have a U3011, and my MBP retina 15inch
(10.8.2) only sends YPbPr space to the display via miniDP to DP cable instead of RGB. If I change the settings to RGB, the color is all funny looking. For all professional purposes this is useless. Nobody from Apple or Dell is willing fix this.
U3011 only uses HDMI 1.3, so you won't get the full resolution. I also have used a mini-DP to dual-DVI adaptor. It gets RGB from MBP, the text is all garbled for anything above 1600x1000 .
I am at my wits end.

Some older scanners don't support presets. If this is the case, you can try this workaround as taken from this technical note Error: Bad Parameter | Acrobat.
In the Configure Presets dialog, choose the scanner attached to your computer from the Scanner pop-up menu.
From the File menu, choose Create > PDF from Scanner > Configure Presets.
In the Configure Presets dialog, click the pop-up menu to the right of the Scanner field and choose the scanner connected to your computer.
Click OK, and then choose Create > PDF From Scanner.

  • Does the 7th generation iPod classic have a glass screen

does the 7th gen.... ipod  classic have a glass screen an what the average life span with normal everday useage,,,,

It is a glass display and the average lifespan depends on a number of factors such as how often it is used and under what conditions, etc.  I would say 2 - 3 years overall is a very good number for these types of devices, but many users recieve many more years of use than that.

  • NB100 - How set the screen brightness?

    Hi all.
Just bought an NB100 - overall very very pleased with it. Well built, good screen and very compact etc.
Got a couple of questions? The screen brightness is controlled by Fn+F9/F10. I like to have it set to "halfway" or less - partly to preserve battery - but also because I find max brightness is actually TOO bright for me! But on reboot the machine seems to always start at maximum again. Is there any way round this? Does it perhaps need a firmware update (my machine seems to be running version 1.90 which I believe is the latest)?
I noticed other threads mentioning Fn + F8 as a means of selecting Bluetooth/Wlan etc? Mine seems to just control the fan setting and processor speed - The "grey" fan setting gives 1.6ghz and the fan comes on - whereas Fn+F8 toggles a "white" fan icon - where the processor throttles down to 800/900 ish and the fan slows/stops(?). [in passing I've noticed some videos become "jerky" if the lower setting is chosen]
I'm not 100% sure what Fn+ "pipe" key does (to the left of F1)? The Fn+F1 switches on wireless/wifi I know - but the "pipe" key seems to be a Wlan symbol (or is that the key to use for Bluetooth or GPS or whatever)? Sorry to sound so ignorant - but the user guide doesnt go into that much detail. I'm fairly sure the machine I bought - which was a Toshiba Refurbished/Reconditioned NB100 - model PLL10E - hasnt got any BT/GPS etc - just the basic wifi which F1 switches on and off.
Final comment - and others have said this - the key tops are very difficult to see in low light!! The "grey" colour was definitely a design mistake! But I can live with it - either a usb light? or some stickon (white) letters?
    Regards to all.

hi, i think the best way to set brightness is in options of energy properties accessible in system tray icon. I know about bt and wlan activation, it seem that bt and wlan dispositives are on the same circuit on/off, so not indipendents. Nb100 is a good inexspansive machine :)

  • How do I make screen brighter and the sound quality better with W8 OS on my iMac through bootcamp assistant like it is with my mac os ?

How do I fix my screen brightness on my imac  via W8 OS on my Imac through boot camp assistant and How do I fix the quality of the sound coming from my imac when in w8?

Alright, first off, thank you for your help so far. I really appreciate it. However, now I have a new problem that I need help with.
I did exactly what you've said to do, and it worked fine, the screen itself became brighter again, it was just too dim before and the brightness settings were all the way up, but after doing what you said to do, It's as it is when using my Apple/Mac OS. The sound coming from the computer speakers and all the other audio issues have been fixed as well. It all sounds like it should in terms of quality. It's just now that I did that, I'll shutdown my computer, or even restart it for some reason, and each and every single time I do that, It's all back to the way it was before installing anything, dim and poor audio quality. Until I install the drivers again like before.
Am I going to have to get used to that or something? Or is there an option I'm just not seeing that would make these preferences and instalations permanent until I input/imply otherwise??
    Thanks in advance!!

  • How does the Touch screen look in direct / indirect sunlight?

Was sitting on the LIRR heading home when I had this thought... after watching some guy playing with his PSP, as the sun was falling on his screen.... hhmmmm, I wondered how my Touch, which is now enroute from Anchorage, is going to handle the sunlight hitting it? Will I be able to watch my movies/tv shows without problem? How does the Touches screen look when sunlight hits it. I realize that sunlight hitting the screen is not an optimal viewing situation, but couldn't help but think how it would look. Those that are lucky to have one.... how does it handle sunlight?

readable, but not great. I had it out in bright Ozzie sunshine and I could use it, but I wouldn't watch a movie on it.

My screen brightness used to adjust itself and if not I could use f1 and f2 keys. After my last upgrade of OSX Mountain Lion, these do not seem to work. Does somebody know what happened and how I can return to the original situation?
