Does this phone require a data plan?

Hello to anyone who is reading this! I am wanting to get a new phone because the one I have currently is falling apart. My parents say that if I get a smartphone I will have to pay the $30ish a month for the data plan, so I'm looking at basic phones. I have come across a no contract verizon cellphone called the 'LG VX11000 enV Touch' on ebay. I was just curious if this required a data plan? Some people in discussions have said it does, and some have said the opposite.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LG-VX11000-ENV-TOUCH-VERIZON-PHONE-NO-CONTRACT-GOOD-ESN-30-DAY-WARRANTY-/131029164755?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item1e81f262d3

No, the enV Touch doesn't require a data plan on a post-paid account.  You may have to put a data block on the phone, though.  If buying off ebay, just ensure that it's Verizon branded with a clean ESN.

  • Which phones require which data plan?

Hello!  I'm planning to upgrade my phone and am looking at possibly getting a phone that requires a data plan.  How do you tell which phones allow you to get the $10 data plan?  The only thing I've found says a data plan is required but it doesn't say which one.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the information vereyezuhn. This is correct, Smartphones and PDA devices require the $29.99 or higher data plan. Feature phones can have either the $10.00 data plan or the $29.99 (unlimited) data plan added for data usage. The $10.00 plan provides you with 75 megabytes of data per month.
    To review just Feature phones:
    1) Click on Phones & Devices
--You will have three choices; Iphone, Smartphones, and Feature phones.
    2) Click Feature Phones and this will show all of the phones that can have the $10.00 data package.

  • List of phones that do not require a Data Plan?

I do not personally need a data plan since all I use with my phone is making calls and texting. I have been using the same phone for almost 4 years now but its all beat up and the battery life is going down and randomly dies down regardless if I do a full charge.
Is there a list of current verizon phones that do not require a data plan? I know almost all phones require a data plan but there are a few that don't. Looking for the "requires minimum data plan $9.99/$29.99 per month" under phone description is a bit time consuming plus I do not think Verizon lists on their website every phone that is available.
I perosnally would not mind the Alias 2 (a current phone that looks like it can pass without the data plan) but it looks like even that phone requires a data plan.
I can go on and on about how phone companies are having these charges to users but I guess we have no choice.. I feel bad for the older loyal customers who need to upgrade their cell phones and plans but have no use for data plans (due to generation differences, no offense but they would least likely need to check email, use the internet, etc.)

Is there a mobile phone that can sync with ical, but does not require a data plan?

Thanks for the reply.  I already have this info, but have spent several hours trying to cross reference with the product descriptions and the different carriers websites.  I was hoping there was an easier way.

  • Is there a wi-fi capable phone that does not require a data plan.

I would like to upgrade the 4th number of my family plan with a phone capable of doing apps.  My youngest son would love to play games with his phone and text and call.  But, a full fledged data plan would be overkill.  Which phone is app capable without data plan?  Help much appreciated

You can upgrade your son's line to one of our Basic phones that do not require a data plan. With these phones your son can text, call, and also purchase games.
Although they do not require a data plan we do recommend one if he will be accessing data when purchasing and downloading games and other applications. Without a data plan you will be billed $1.99 per megabyte used.
If he will be accessing data occasionally then I would recommend the $10.00 data plan which will allow him 75 MB per month. Click here to view other available data plans.

  • Does the LG Dare require a data plan?

I have an LG Dare that I would like to use on an existing plan. BUT I dont want to pay for data, so I was wondering since Verizon has changed so much with their plans, does the LG Dare require a data plan in order to use it on my plan? All I use the phone for is calls and unlimited texting, no internet. Why pay for something I will never use?
~ Note: My current phone is the LG EnV 2 (no data required on it)...which died completely on me. Hence why Im wanting to switch to my old phone LG Dare.~
    Thanks!

        @turtlegurl86,
We appreciate you bringing this to the attention of the forum. It is fantastic to see of your proactive nature.
The LG Dare does not require a data package. If you would like to add a data package. The current data option for the device is $10 / 75 MB.
I'm sure you will find this information beneficial. It was a great to hear from you.

  • Does the EnV Touch require a data plan?

I need a new phone, and it has to be similar to the LG Extravert. I just want a new phone for variety, although I could purchase the Extravert again. But, when I look up whether the EnV Touch requires a data plan, there is so much confusion. Even the Verizon Customer Support people give different answers. I am very uncomfortable with the idea of a data plan, because I just want to pay $20/month for unlimited texting-I text very heavily. But I do not want to pay $50-70 per month just to text. I also hope it isn't a smartphone, because I have been searching for a non-smartphone for weeks. So...does it require one or not? If you can recommend a similar phone that meets my needs, please do. I also prefer touch screens and good cameras.

I know cost is important to you doctorcatfish and we want to make sure you have the best plan for your needs. If you purchase  a basic phone (Lg-Env) for full retail cost you can use the plan you currently have. If you upgrade to a basic phone with a discount, you will have to choose one of our shared data plans for basic devices. The Lg-Env-Touch will require a data plan and if this phone is purchased at full retail price, you can use your current plan and add on one of our old data plans because you have an older plan. If you upgrade with a discount for this  device, you will have to pick one of our shared data plans. Here is some information about out plans http://bit.ly/xdDajD . Let us know if you have any further questions.

  • Does the Palm Centro require a data plan?

Does the Palm Centro require a data plan? I'm wanting to switch back to my Centro and I just want to make sure, before I purchase a new one, that I will not be required to pay the $29.99 a month like I do now with my Pixi. Can anyone give me a for sure, 100% positive answer on whether or not this is a discontinued phone and does not require the data plan with activation? Thank you so much!

That's exactly what I thought, but I kept finding in small subjects people saying it might require it. I thought, surely, they wouldn't. That just wouldn't be fair. Thank you so much for your answer. I really appreciate it.

  • Complete list of phones that DO NOT require a data plan

    Hello.
I am looking for a complete list of phones (old and new) that DO NOT require a data plan.   I have five lines with 2 of them requiring the $30 plan and 2 more of them requiring the $10 plan.  The fees are killing me and I just want basic phone and text service.
Pre-paid phones are out of the question as they no longer allow them to be used on a regular plan unless they have been in service for 6+ months.
    Thank you.

These are all the feature phones that we currently offer.  Feature phones are phones that do not require data features of $9.99 or $29.99.

  • Can I use an Android phone without a data plan?

Please read all of this before responding. You will not be helping when you show a clear misunderstanding of my question.
I do not need a data plan. Everywhere I go has Wi-Fi, and I am perfectly content to not have internet connectivity in the event that I don't have Wi-Fi. What I want to know is if I can buy a phone from a store (not from Verizon or a contract renewal) and replace my current phone with it without needing a data plan. There is NO software/hardware reason why I couldn't, and the only reason I would need to is as a Verizon requirement.
As an additional question, if Verizon doesn't allow it, is there any workaround?
I want an android phone not to have ubiquitous connection to social media. I want an android phone to have platform to run software on in addition to making/receiving calls and text messages. I would not utilize a data plan and it would be a waste of money.
    Additional info:
Can I use an Android phone that I buy from a retailer on my Verizon plan without adding data? There's no hardware or software reason why I need a data plan, and there IS a point to having a smart phone without a data plan: Wi-Fi. I don't need to have redundant internet access.  The only reason conceivable for why I'd need a data plan is because Verizon wants more money for no additional service (I wouldn't USE connectivity provided by a data plan). I don't want to have a mobile platform for running software and a phone filling my pockets, I'd like it to be in one. All the connectivity I need is for calls and text messaging.

    I stand corrected!
Here's an article on the subject with a good discussion and a somewhat dodgy suggestion for non-Verizon service: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57555091-94/can-you-ditch-your-smartphone-data-plan-for-wi-fi/.
Here's a discussion on a T-Mobile forum laying out the options (as of last November): http://support.t-mobile.com/message/198200. It sounds like it would meet one of the OP's desires: "Can I use an Android phone that I buy from a retailer on my Verizon plan without adding data?" Not on Verizon, but probably on T-Mobile.

  • Is Verizon attempting to get customers to abandon basic phone services for data plans?

I was just in the Verizon store to pay my bill and while there I wanted to verify my upgrade eligibility date.  My husband and I have a shared plan with him having a basic phone and I have a smart phone with a data plan.  Due to a need to upgrade phones last year I used his upgrade eligibility date to go from a basic phone to a mart phone.  At that time I was told that when the time that I was eligible to update my phone he would be able to use that date, which he did.  The next time we are eligible to update will be in Feb. but since we had switched the dates last year, I was told that if I wanted to update this year at his time, we would be charged an additional $30 per month for a data plan even though we would still have 1 basic phone and only 1 smart phone.  In essence we will be paying for 2 smart phones and have the benefit of only 1.  Does Verizon think that this is good customer service and that it will foster customer loyalty?

It is true that if you switch lines and upgrade with a smartphone, but then add a basic phone back on that line you will be charged $30 per month for data since you used that line to upgrade to a smartphone, and the data costs are part of the payback for the higher price of the smartphone.
However, that is not what you are doing, and I have not heard that if you use an upgrade to get a basic phone, you still have to pay $30 even if that is a transfer from an upgrade eligible line that has a smartphone.
I honestly think you were given wrong information and they misunderstood the new policy. This is one situation I have not seen yet, so will await others to give input, including any Verizon representatives.

  • When i go to sync my apps with my computer it tells me  ''are you sure you want to sync apps ? all exsisting apps and there data on (iphone) will be replaced with the apps on this itunes library'' does this mean all my data will be lost if i continue ?

when i go to sync my apps with my computer it tells me  ''are you sure you want to sync apps ? all exsisting apps and there data on (iphone) will be replaced with the apps on this itunes library'' does this mean all my data will be lost if i continue ?

Regarding your broken, previously authorized computer, here's how that works:
You would authorize your new computer -- maybe you've done that already.  Then you will have two computers authorized.  Apple allows you to have up to five computers authorized at any time.  If you get to five, you can then go to your account details in iTunes and remove all authorizations.
Bear in mind this is not saying you can synch to more tham one library.  Razmee209 and gdgmacguy's comments above are correct.  But if Apple only allowed you to authorize one computer at a time, then having a broken computer would mean you could no longer use your Apple ID with iTunes.

    No...see the link I posted:
If you did not enable Find My iPhone on your missing device
If you did not enable Find My iPhone before it was lost or stolen, you can't use it to locate or protect your device, but you can still follow these steps:
Change your iCloud password to ensure that no one else can use your device to delete or make changes to your iCloud data.
Report your lost or stolen device to local law enforcement and your wireless carrier. Apple doesn't track or flag lost or stolen products, but you can use My Support Profile (supportprofile.apple.com) to find a list of serial numbers for products that you've purchased or registered with your Apple ID.
