Domain Controller Authentication Fail Since Upgrade

When I boot my Mac Pro at the office, the network's domain controller prompts me for my domain login. Since upgrading to Yosemite, the domain controller rejects my credentials. However, I can go to "Connect To Server" and browser the entire network despite the domain controller not authenticating me as a user.
To summarize, since switching to Yosemite:
1. Can't login to the network when I submit my credentials
2. Can browse the network without my credentials
My theory is that the only reason #2 works is because #1 is working but Yosemite is just mistakenly telling me I wasn't authenticated.
So what's the problem you may ask if I can browse the network anyway? The problem is that I can't mount any of the network drives to my desktop because Yosemite doesn't think I'm authenticated to do such. If I can solve this authentication problem, then I should get my mounted network drives back.
Thanks in advance.

Do you have any NIC conifgured to get dynamic IP on your DC which is having issue? If yes, please disable that NIC. Also, please provide me the result of the below
1) On your DC which is having issue, run "ipconfig /all"
2) Repadmin /showrepl
Thanks,

Thanks, there is only 1 nic card. It is getting a dhcp address because this is an AZURE Hyper-v machine and I have set an IP reservation for it. I have no way to hardcode the IP because it gets shut off/on all the time

  • Windows 2012 Verification of prerequisites for Domain Controller promotion failed

Windows 2012 Verification of prerequisites for Domain Controller promotion failed and gave the below error(In computer management local group and user option is not there as suggested by a solution!)
"Verification of prerequisites for Domain Controller promotion failed. The local Administrator account becomes the domain Administrator account when you create a new domain. The new domain cannot be created because the local Administrator account password
    does not meet requirements.
Currently, the local Administrator password is blank, which might lead to security issues. We recommend that you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, use the net user command-line tool, or use Local Users and Groups to set a strong password for the local Administrator
account before you create the new domain."

OK, the reason you see this error is because when you set up and configured your Windows R2 environment you may have logged into the OS with an account other than Administrator. So, if you created your log in account named Bob, this is throwing off the Server.
So, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and look who you are logged in as, and then change the account you are logging in as and use the local Administrator account. What you may find is that the default Admin account password has not been set.
Check that out and see if that is what you are experiencing.

  • Batch Processing fails since upgrading tree

I've got a customer who has a custom legacy dos executable that runs a
batch file, maps a drive, and sends an attachment to one of their remote
4.11 servers. Until recently, this has worked wonderful for them.
However, in the past week, we have added a 6.5 server to the tree and
before doing so, we had to upgrade all the servers to run DS 6.21.
Since doing this, some (not all) of the runs have stopped working. For
some reason, some of the servers we try to connect to, we're getting an
error now when we attempt to run our batch commands. The error is 89FC
(Can not get connection status) and our map fails, and then our batch
fails. Actually, what happens is is the user we're trying to map with
has no password, but when we run our batch file, it now asks us for a
password for about 5 of the servers we do this with. The other servers
work fine, just these 5 servers no longer work.
We use a very old version of map.exe because our application is memory
bound and this map.exe is 48K.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am having some of the same problems except the server that is requiring a password (and did not used to) is the master replica. Any ideas? We use this server to store document images and we have a user that we used to connect to through DOS batch files (up until we upgraded the server to NW 6.5/OES sp7). It now requires a password no matter what we do. Even if we have a password on the user login, it gets the following error :
Can not get connection status (89fc)
I cannot find a way around this. Any ideas would be great.

  • IBook Battery Failing Since Upgrade to 10.4.10

I use my iBook heavily for class. I regularly allow the battery to discharge fully before recharging - usually every week or so. Since the last update to 10.4.10 I've noticed the battery seems to be discharging rapidly. Nothing else has changed. I have Applecare and was talked thru resetting the battery (remove battery, hold down power button). I was advised if this didn't fix the problem to go to the Genius Bar. If anything it seems to be worse over the course of a week. I went to the Genius Bar and was told I had to buy a new battery. Now according to the Apple web site  the battery should still be at 80% at 300 cycles. Currently I have less than an hour at 290.
    Suggestions?

You could try resetting the PMU if you haven't already. Otherwise if you aren't covered by the iBook G4 Battery Extension program, your best bet may be to talk to Applecare again and do your best to convince them that your battery is failing prematurely. It is getting a lot of cycles, so this might be a hard case to make. But you never know--sometimes a different person will give you a different answer.
    Good luck!

  • What happens if Domain Controller server authentication certificate expires?

    Dear People,
We have got two Domain controller servers and accordingly two Azman servers. we
have got two certificates issued for each Domain controllers to our two Azman servers. Both these certificates are going to expire in next few days. We have few Web
& Desktop applications for which we authorize a large pool of users with the help of these two Azman servers.
Now, Issue is, Domain Controller certificates are going to expire soon on both Azman servers. Can somebody tell me, what could be impact of expiration of these certificates?
will all the application be down after that? Should I must go for renewal of certificates? Please help me as soon as possible otherwise I will be in big trouble. Thanks.

    Hi,
Based on my research, Domain Controller Authentication certificate is used for client authentication, server authentication and smart card logon.
You need to renew the certificates before they expire, otherwise problems about smart card logon and SSL connection will occur.

  • Group Policy Management Console Failes to open when one Domain Controller is powered down

    Hi All,
This was an accidental discovery, but here's my dilemma. I have a site with 2 domain controllers(Windows 2008 R2), and if I shut down my second domain controller, when I try to open the Group Policy Management  Console on the 1st domain controller,
it fails to open and I get the following error, "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted" with 3 options to "retry", "choose another domain controller", or remove.   If I go to chose another domain
controller and select the 1st domain controller it still fails.  Unless the 2nd DC is turned on, I have no issues opening the GP management console. Not sure, why this is happening, I've done it in the pass without issue.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Well it seems that some how the PDC emulator is set to be the 2nd DC instead of the 1st DC on the 1st DC which explains why the failure after the 2nd DC went down. Why or should I say how could the PDC get switched from the primary DC without human intervention.
Does the PDC automatically switch for any reason?

  • How to join windows 7 client to mac osx 10.6 domain controller ?

    Hello,
I m IT support in school in france, and the network is an heterogen mix between mac os and windows 7 clients.
The server is under OSx 10.6 and i don t find a workaround/walkthrough to join my windows clients to the domain controller.
    Any solution ?
An upgrade of samba engine can resolve this issue ? If it can be, how to do this ?
Thanks and excuse me for my poor english...

I'm not aware of any particular tie-in between Windows 7 and Domain Controller and Samba and OS X Server Open Directory LDAP Services.
Samba did provide limited Domain Controller capabilities and can use Domain Authentication, but the Apple installation from 10.6 is an old release and I've had some problems getting that older stuff to work.  You'll likely have to hand-manage Samba to get this to work, by following the directions at the Samba.org web site, too.
The best resource I've encountered for digging around in this topic area is the archives of the Mac Enterprise mailing list.
FWIW, Microsoft has (migrated from? abandoned? deprecated?) Domain Controller authentication in favor of Active Directory some years ago, and Apple has abandoned Samba in more recent releases; this is a dead end.  If you are using Windows Server and Active Directory, then OS X Server can be configured in what's called a Magic Triangle configuration; where you have Windows handling Windows authentication, and OS X Server handling OS X authentication, and coordinating across the two.  Or (with newer OS X releases) Apple has improved integration with Active Directory.

  • DPM 2010 agent installation on Domain Controller

Hello all, recently I tried to install the agent from my DPM 2010 server onto a Win2K8 Domain controller which failed (used a Domain Admin's credientials for the install, and on trusted domain). I remember in DPM 2007 you needed to install the agent through
command line. Can someone post up the correct steps to get a DPM 2010 agent installed to a DC?

    Same issue here.
Pushing a DPM 2010 agent to a Windows 2008 DC fails with the error:
    ============
You cannot install the protection agent on SV-MGMT-03.xxxxxx.nl because access to the computer has been denied.
    ============
The DPM 2010 agent software is installed but DPM doesn't add the server. With an attach i can add the server but DPM 2010 cannot communicate with it.
    ===============
    Protection agent version: 3.0.7696.0
Error: Data Protection Manager Error ID: 270
The agent operation failed on sv-mgmt-03.xxxxx.nl because DPM could not communicate with the DPM protection agent. The computer may be protected by another DPM server, or the protection agent may have been uninstalled on the protected computer.
If sv-mgmt-03.xxxxxxx.nl is a workgroup server, the password for the DPM user account could have been changed or may have expired.
Recommended action: Check the following to troubleshoot this issue:
    1) If the agent is not installed on sv-mgmt-03.xxxxxxxxx.nl, run DpmAgentInstaller.exe with this DPM computer as a parameter. For details, see the DPM Deployment Guide.
    2) To attach the computer correctly to this DPM server, run the SetDpmServer tool on the protected computer.
    3) If the computer is protected by another DPM server, or if the protection agent has been uninstalled, remove the protected data sources on this computer from active protection. Then, remove the entry of this computer from the Agents tab in the Management
    task area.
    4) If sv-mgmt-03.xxxxxxxxx.nl is a workgroup server, run SetDpmServer with the -UpdatePassword flag on the protected computer and Update-NonDomainServerInfo.ps1 on the DPM server to update the password.
    5) If the DPM server and the protected computer are not in the same domain, ensure that there is a two-way trust setup between the two domains.
If the computer is protected by another DPM server, or if the protection agent has been uninstalled, you can remove the record of the computer from this DPM server.

Check you ACS (Radius) logs under failures. You will see why its failing. Sounds like a AD account went bad

  • DFSR Replication Event ID 1202 The DFS Replication service failed to contact domain controller Additional Information: Error: 160 (One or more arguments are not correct.)

    Hi,
    hummmm...
The client had 1 Server with AD and All Apps, IIS, Terminal Servers (30 device Cal), File Server, SQL2008R2 on it
Task: Install new AD server promote it to DC,  bring in 2nd server, Replicate the File Server (DFSR) on these 2 servers, and demote it to standard server.
    1) Old AD with name "Server" with OS-2008R2 SP1 and is a DC.
    2) Brought in a new server "PrimaryAD", Installed 2008R2, done DC Promo, and added it as Additional Domain controller
    3) Transferred roles from old server "Server" to "PrimaryAD"
    4) Brought in a new File Server replicating server "Backup-Server"
    5) Copied all the data from Server to Backup-server as DFS initial file sync with robocopy
    6) here the problem started, after the copy finished, next morning the "Server" server crashed.....
    7) thank god the data was backed up on Backup-server. but we didnt get the time to Demote the server "Server" and remove AD from it.
    8) Since AD was replicated so "PrimaryAD" was are DC, brought 2nd Server "SecondaryDC" as additional domain controller.
    9) we cleaned up the metadata and used ASIEDIT to clean the remaining stuff.
    10) the "Server" server was formatted and renamed as "Primary-Server" and OS2008R2 SP1 was installed with rest of required apps
    11) so now the PrimaryAD the DC, SecondaryAD the Additional Domain controller, Primary-Server the mail server and File server, the Backup-server, the replicated server.
Now configured DFS Replication from Primary-Server to Backup-server and receive following Event ID 1202

  • AD account logging to a remote domain controller for authentication

    Hi,
I have a weird issue with an AD account using a different logonserver when authenticating to AD.  A domain admin account uses the local site domain controller but another account is using a remote domain controller as logonserver. I'm using both account
to logon to the same server (CRM 2011). But when I issue the command "set l' from the command line, they shows different logonserver value.
My issue is the crm account is pointing to a remote domain controller (windows 2012 R2) which I don't want and should use the local site domain controller (windows 2008 R2). The reason being is that the CRM server is on a  test network (isolated) and
when we test an upgrade of CRM addon product called Experlogix, the upgrade requires to get authenticated by AD but it fails and I think the logonserver is the issue. When the crm account is used on the test server it points not to the local site domain controller
but to the remote dc which is not in the test server.
    Thanks for your help!!!

Start by checking that your are sites and subnets are well configured.
Use dssite.msc and make sure that:
You have AD sites that represent your physical sites
All the subnets in use are created and moved to the correct AD site
Your DCs belong to the correct AD site
You can read more about the DC Locator process here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/24457.how-domain-controllers-are-located-in-windows.aspx

  • DFS Replication failed to contact Domain Controller.....

I have seen this error since the inception of this stand alone AD PDC instance of Windows server 2012 R2 Essentials. I understand that Essentials does not support other Domain Controllers ; Member servers ; or trust between Domains of any kind. I also
understand that DSF Replication is a service that replicates files between other servers and other domain servers that Essentials dose not want to talk to.
So my question is why am I seeing this DFSR error 1202  in my event log, if Essentials does not support communication to other servers and domain servers? Maybe a better question is why does Essentials even try to implement this
service? Do I even need to try to resolve this issue or should I just disable it and move on?
