Downloading anything stalls

Hi there,
Intel iMac OS X 10.5.8 2.66 GHz 2GB of memory
Network setup: Small network. WIred and wireless available. Tried both and same problem.
The Problem: First detected when I tried to update iPhone software and iTunes was unable to connect to home base. Thought it was related to iTunes only. But when I tried to download software updates, I get a couple of bytes through and then the downloader stalls down to 0bytes/sec. Went to Speakeasy and sure enough the download starts at the 5Mbytes ranges and quickly starts falling until it stalls and unable to continue the test. Tested this with Ethernet and Wireless and I get the same results. Also tested other machines on the network and they seem to have no problem at all.
Anyone experience anything like this before? The better question is how do I troubleshoot a problem like this? Is this sounding more like a hardware problem?

PROBLEM SOLVED
It turned out that the IPv6 configuration on that iMac was set to Automatic. I turned it Off and restarted and the problem went away. Though interesting that it worked for some time with that configuration!!

If it says your billing info is wrong that means that your credit card issuer is refusing to approve your account. You will have to solve the problem with your bank or credit card company.

I have to click "save as" to download anything

If I click a link to download anything from Firefox (which I use) or even Safari it will just continuously load the page without starting to download it. For instance if I try to download a .zip file it will try to load the page in the browser with the web address ending in .zip. I can get around this most of the time by clicking "save as" and downloading it to my desktop but sometimes this doesn't work (for instance if the download button brings you to another page and then tries to automatically download it from that ie. Adobe Flash)
Any help would be much appreciated. MacBook Pro 10.6.7

I had Firefox 4 for a while but I found it to bring up the waiting symbol (the beachball thing) for a few seconds every time I tried to open a new link. It would go away and open the link eventually but it got kind of annoying. The downloading problem came after I went back to Firefox 3, but not straight away. I'll try Firefox 4 again later this afternoon and let you know how I get on.

If you go to the Apple equivalent of: Appdata\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates (sorry am a mere PC user )
If there is a file titled iphone1,22.1_5F136Restore then try deleting it and then running iTunes without your iPhone attached.
Go to the menu and select Help/Software Updates which should then notify you that there are updates and allow you to download them in advance of restoring.
Hopefully this will download the update. Once completed attach the iPhone and restore.

Try a Reboot. Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo appear, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart. You won't lose any data or settings. When it comes back on, see if you can download apps.

Are you listing the billing address for the card correctly? The address in the iTunes/MAS account must match the address on your bill exactly.

I entered an invalid email when I first set up my iPhone 5s and forgot the password for the Apple ID. I managed to successfully change the Apple ID and password and validated it through email. However when I tried to download something from the App Store it still came up with my old apple id so I can't download anything. How can I fix this?

It appears that you have apps that need updating that were pruchased from more than one account
- Go to settings>Store and sign out and sign into your account.
- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

I can't download anything as it keeps telling me my start up disk is full. I have deleted loads of files and it still keeps popping up with the same messge??

How big is your hard drive, and how much space is used/free?
To find out, click once on the hard drive icon on your desktop to highlight it (it will be called Macintosh HD unless you renamed it). Click the command and I keys on your keyboard to open the information window. In "General", you will see Capacity and Available. What are those figures?
If you have a little bit of space left, I recommend that you install Omnidisksweeper (it's free) to tell you what folders are using up the most room.
Be careful when you transfer files - only move files that you know are yours. Don't move or delete any system files unless you're specifically recommended to do so (some files are safe to delete; some are not).

Same here on my lpad2. Can access the web just fine from browsers but cannot install new apps or updates in appl store. Seeing a few others reporting same issue tonight so likely an apple server issue and staff will notice it in network monitors and fix it...sometime this weekend.
