Drawn on line is jumpy

I've created an angle out of a line with three points. At a point along my timeline, I have it shift shape. My problem occurs before this point, when it is supposed to be static. Despite all three points remaining consistent in my shape's geometry control points reading until the move happens, there is a small 'shiver' during this time in my viewer window. Does anyone know what could be causing this glitch? It isn't just in motion. When I bring it back into FCP, the 'shiver' remains and makes the clip look pretty bad. I'm using Motion 4. Thanks.

You can see the issue on the part of the red line that is touching his foot. It seems to jump between two different points. If you want to check out the actual motion project, how would I send it to you? Thanks Patrick.

Drawning a line where mouse is clicked

Basically, I am doing an application where the user clicks on an icon and draws a line according to the points clicked (using getX & getY). My problem is how to make the application wait for the user to click so that the coordinates are updated accordingly. Can somebody help?

have you checked the two reports Matthias mentioned?
After downloading the SAP Chart Designer the general procedure should look like: create your chart settings interactively using the designer. Save these settings as a local XML file. Use this XML in your ABAP application and additionally create a data XML at runtime (the format is described in the pdf of the SAP Chart Designer zip).

Line at the end of repeat subform

Hi Adobe experts,
I have got a situation where in the item table is a subform which i have made it with repeat subform
The columns of the item table are drawn by lines.
So for every line item,the horizontal line at the end of the table appears when the subform repeats.
I do not want the line to appear at the end of line item but only at the end of a page..
Is it possible to do so ? or we should change the design by using insert table
Please let me know your suggestions.

The line is in the end of the subform ( Placed down ),the subform only is for the item table ,so if the line is in the subform ,as the items repeat,the line also gets repeated

Extend line segments

I've drawn a line segment between 2 intersections. Can I extend this segment beyond the intersections, such that it still passes through them?

To extend a straight segment from one of its ends:
1. WhitePointer: Select the anchorPoint at the end of the segment you want to extend.
2. Scale Tool: Altclick the anchorPoint at the opposite end of the segment, to set the transformation anchor there.
3. ShiftDrag to scale the selected anchorPoint.

Cliché line moving across map effect?

What's the easiest way to create that old "line moving across a map" effect that documentaries used to show the route traveled between point A and point B?
Can it be done in FCP or do I need a graphics program?

You could do it very quickly and easily with animated masks in FCP. Lyric makes some plugins that make it easy to do in FCP. Nattress's Lines and Long Lines will do it, and are very easily keyframe-able. I'd drawn my lines in PhotoShop, and reveal with masks, very quick, very easy.
But if you take the time to learn Motion, you can do some more elegant, complex things with it. The trick is the time it takes to learn Motion...

Add 'animated line' to 'moving still'??

I've never done this before with Motion ... and i'm not sure where to even look in the manual:
I've done a simple zoom in on a map. I want to animate a railway line (simple red line) being built ... supered over the map as the zoom takes place. I haven't done much motion tracking ... where would I look in the manual for instructions?
Or perhaps I need to animate the red line on the map (still) first, THEN animate the zoom on the map (live-action)?

Your way is much better. I had drawn the line. Then made a matte that moved, slowly revealing the line over time. Then I exported the still frame with the moving line, making it a QT movie which I then re-imported into a new project, and to which I added a zoom. But the end result was a bit artifact happy. Your way is MUCH better. Thank you. I'm getting used to all the new tools in Motion. I haven't used the app for years. Love it.

How do I create a cut-path ONLY on the outer edge of my vector image?

Okay, I have a dilemma. This could be one of those things that is so simple when explained, but at this moment in time it has me scratching my head.
Here I have a vector image. The pink stroke is a cut path that the software I use at work recognises and cuts. (Used for vinyl decals/stickers etc). All the lines highlighted in pink is useless to me, as it would cut out each individual line.
All I need is the outer edge of the entire graphic.
Note my crudely drawn red lines that border the image, that is exactly what I need. As you can see, the paths run through the image. BUT...When I try to erase the paths using add anchor point then cut path at selected anchor points so I can remove that particular segment, the colour essentially "leaks" as it isn't a closed area anymore. Rasterizing the image destroys the quality and I would like to be able to perform this task without loss of quality.
If anybody could help, I'd be eternally grateful!

As far as I can see there are three sets of pink strokes, and I guess you wish to use the outermost one and have it form one continuous path round everything and in the hole between the letters.
Presuming you have the other strokes under control, you may be able to copy everything to the top of the stacking order and then, with all the copies selected, Pathfinder>Unite to get that compound path with pink stroke and no fill, which you may then split into one path for the outside and one path for the hole if needed.

How can I add an area to a shape?

Sorry for what is probably a basic question - I'm fairly new to Illustrator and still finding it quite baffling!
I have a shape that I want to divide into two parts, and fill the parts different colours.
What I did was make a rectangle, then pull the corners out to make it lean. I then rounded the corners by using Effect > Stylize > Round Corners.
I have then drawn two lines to divide the shape as I want, but can't figure out where to go from there! Here is the result:
What I want is for the large area to stay grey, and the thin area to be black. How can I achieve this?

Both answers are very helpful. However, I'm having a couple of issues.
Firstly, if I use the Pen tool and hover over the upper anchor as per JET's step 5, it shows the minus symbol by the cursor, and removes that anchor point if I click. I got around this by holding down left shift (using PC version) and clicking. However, after that, it hides the anchors of the rounded rectangle, so I have to guess.
Secondly, either continuing from the above or using a line, when I click Divide Objects Below, it extends the line past the rounded corner. When I did it with a line, it was a minor tapered point, but with the pen tool it's somewhat more pronounced, thusly:

Why does the straighten tool in Elements 11 freeze when I try to use it?

When I click on the straighten tool and then click on a horizontal line on my photo, as I attempt to draw the line across the photo it freezes after a fraction of an inch and rotates the photo before I've drawn the line along the horizontal feature I'm using and it's always wrong. I had this problem with my downloaded trial version of Elements 11 and it appears on the version I purchased in the store today.

I was able to replicate this problem and believe it may be a bug, although I did find a "workaround".
The straighten tool was only drawing for a very short distance and then I would no longer see the straighten line. Of course, this prevented me from using it properly. I followed the suggestions in this thread and reset the preferences. The Straighten tool worked normally until I enabled the ruler under the View settings. Once, the ruler was enabled the straighten tool started doing the same thing it did before. I turned off the ruler and it started working normally again without re-opening the program. I tried the ruler both in the default inches measurement as well as pixels (my personal ruler preference).
The workaround would be to turn off the ruler while straightening. However, I hope this is fixed in a patch. I didn't have this problem with Photoshop Elements 9, the last version of Elements I had prior to upgrading. For the record, I'm running Windows 7, just installed Photoshop Elements 11 and immediately downloaded the updates, which I believe was just the Adobe Raw 7.3 update.

FCPX choppy slow motion, picture quality and effects

is it just me or does final cut pro x have really bad quality picture. two main things i have noticed in using this software is the slow motion is really choppy even after rendering out with optical flow and there is a lot of vibration in the picture. lines are jumpy and when adding effects it gets much worse, also there are black lines at top and bottom of screen.
i was using edius prior to getting a mac and it was as smooth as butter, slow mo and all. im kinda bummed about the whole final cut thing. please help.

Auto naming logic for ID graphic objects

Can anyone tell me what logic is used for the naming of JPG/PNG images that are generated for InDesign-drawn boxes, line, ovals, groups, etc?
In other words, if you draw a circle in InDesign, anchor this to the text, output as reflowable EPUB, unzip the EPUB, and look in the oebps\image folder, you'll see an image named something like 2022.jpg. I'm trying to determine the logic behind this naming, as I need to reuse these images for something else.

Here is what I need this for: I've got a large scripting project where a health care client has 2500+ ID files that are very regular in their layout, structure, use of styles, etc. They need to get the content from these documents, along with the simple layout (h1, h2, h3, body, etc) into various CMS. Some of the CMS ingest HTML, some XML, etc. I've written a series of scripts that help a user quickly check/cleanup/"normalize" a document, and then export to html/xml per the specifications of the CMS.
For various reasons, I'm using InDesign's HTML export engine as the starting point, so it creates a "web-resources" folder and dumps the images in there. We need to dump the images that are generated from each document's export into a common images folder. We can be guaranteed that the placed image filenames are unique. But it looks like the auto-generated filenames from the UID will not likely always be unique, so I'll probably add a timecode or something to the filename to ensure that it is unique.
This is a very unique and challenging project. I'm having fun with it.

Drawing a binary tree

I'm trying to write a Java GUI that draws a binary tree on a JPanel.
the tree is dynamically filled while user is inserting nodes.
I need a quit robust Implementation so that the tree is properly drawn with lines connecting nodes and most IMPORTANT ; the panel can expend to fit the tree (dynamically).
can any one tell me how to get started ?

My advice is to use a graphics framework, e.g. look at Piccolo:

If you put your panel in a piccolo scrollpane it will be able to expand in all directions, something that is very hard to achieve otherwise.
OTOH Piccolo is not a dedicated graph framework (which knows about the distinction of nodes and edges and how to connect them). It comes with an example, though how to implement that.
There are more dedicated graph frameworks, e.g. JGraph:
