Dreamweaver template not making changes

Hello everyone,
I have been assigned to a new client and thus "take over" an existing website. This website is setup in Dreamweaver using Templates.
The main Template is using "Param"s to switch the state of the buttons, on or off.
So, I create a new page and link it to this Template. All seems fine.
Next, I would like to change which button is "on".
Based on my research it appears you must do this change through the "Modify>Template Properties" panel. Not by editing the code by hand.
So, I open this up, click on the button code I want to change, hit OK, and I can see that in the head it has changed the Param code.
Now I have the code below.
<!-- TemplateParam name="v01" type="boolean" value="true" -->
<!-- TemplateParam name="v02" type="boolean" value="true" -->
<!-- TemplateParam name="v03" type="boolean" value="true" -->
<!-- TemplateParam name="v04" type="boolean" value="false" -->
<!-- TemplateParam name="v05" type="boolean" value="true" -->
The defaults are all "true" and the one I just changed is "false".
However, the button state of #4 still has not changed. I have tried various buttons and nothing seems to change.
This perplexes me. Is there something else I need to edit?
Any ideas would be helpful thanks!
Mr Zedd

Thanks "typoman" and "Murray ACE" for your quick responses. I appreciate it.
I was going to post a link to the files in question, but your responses prompted me to do some more testing, specifically to verify that in fact this <!-- TemplateParam name="v01" type="boolean" value="true" --> code is actually being used.
So, I created a child page and then step-by-step went through and changed the state of each of the 13 buttons. Surprisingly all of the button states changed, except the one I needed, #6. When I changed that state nothing happened at all, but when I changed the #7 button both 6 & 7 buttons changed.
Going back to the Template I found that someone had put in the head code correctly:
<!-- TemplateParam name="v06" type="boolean" value="true" -->
but in the body itself there was no #6, only two #7's:
<!-- TemplateBeginIf cond="v07" -->
So, once I edited this code everything now works.
Thanks for your input, as it helped me to find the issue.
Gracias!
Mr Zedd

  • Dreamweaver templates not updating *.php file

    Hello everyone,
I have been given an exisiting website to update that uses
    Dreamweaver templates.
I have made the changes successfully within the content.dwt
file, saved it, and then uploaded both the new content.dwt file and
the related *.htm pages that were linked to it.
After going to the website to double check the new pages I
found a *.php file that uses the same template, content.dwt, but it
never asked to update that particular file.
So, I opened the *.php file in Dreamweaver and tried to apply
changes from the content.dwt file to it using: Templates - Update
current page, but no such luck. Since there is no code at the start
of this file like the other *.htm files how do I "connect" it with
the newly updated template. I tried making a small change on the
content.dwt file so see what files would come up in the "do you
wish to update..." list but for some reason the *.php file is not
    there.
Perhaps the answer is fairly obvious to someone who has
worked with Templates a lot but since I have just started working
with templates I still have a large knowledge gap in this area.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Mr Zedd

Can you post a link to the PHP page, please? This will allow
    me to see the
    HTML markup on it....

  • Dreamweaver Template not updating pages error code 2?

    Hi All
I wonder if someone can help me - I have a site that i made with Dreamweaver. I then got a new computer (windows 7) and updated my dreamweaver from cs4 to cs5. I have just tried to update my pages and it doesnt seems to be working.
Not sure what information you need - but I have a root folder and within the root site there is a folder with Templates and the templates have the extension .dwt
I have read some posts that say recreate the cache which i have tried - this hasnt worked
I then read another post that says you can update the pages by Modify > templates > Update Pages..
When i tried this I get the update dialog box, but when i try to update the pages i get the following error message:
"error accessing file - (name of the dwt file), file not found, error code 2"
Can i ask the what is the error code 2 - i mean is there any information about the error code which will help me to resolve my templates not being found? as i am bit stuck...
Would appreciate any help on this and thank you in advance
    Regards
    Lorna

I would like further help with the issue Guy McMickle identified.
When I update links to my two template files I receive the above Error Code 2 message four times. There are 22 page files based on these templates.
The <!-- InstanceBegin template... code does not exist in either of the template files. I does, however, show up in every one of the 21 files that were created from one of the two templates. In these files it shows up in uneditable header code.
Why does the error code only show up four times? If the instanceBegin code is only generated when a file is created based on a template, how can it be avoided or corrected?

  • Is there a way to make an HTML or CSS Dreamweaver template (not a website template)?

This might be confusing. I'm not looking for a way to create a website template but a layout/DocType template that has an HTML skeleton in place. The reason I'm asking is that I do a lot of email designs in Dreamweaver and I want to get a template in place but all I've found are these time-consuming website template tutorials that don't serve my needs.
What I want is to be able to create something like the DW's default DocType templates that have the initial <html><head></head><body></body></html> etc.... because I can then just start adding in content and change the HTML/CSS attributes (emails require a lot of inline css) as needed.
So far, I've been using an HTML document that I'd like to make into a template but sometimes I end up saving over it and then have to recreate it...which gets old real fast. This is why having an initial template would eliminate the worry of saving over my makeshift HTML template. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks for the help!

Snippets is a good idea. But you can also do this with a template. Each time you use FILE | New > Page from Template, as you would to create a new child page, you have the option to enable or disable an option called "Update page when template changes". If that option is DISABLED (i.e., unchecked), then the child page will be created but with NO TEMPLATE MARKUP (i.e., no editable/non-editable regions)! Seems that's exactly what you want, no?

  • Dreamweaver templates not working after migration

I've had a computer failure and have set up DW8 on my new
computer(xp pro). I downloaded the site and entered the site
    information in manage sites.
    2 problems now occuring:
I can create a document from a template (that DW recognizes
as a template in the File>New>Templates), but the files do
not update when the template is modified, or even if I manually
Modify>Templates>Update Current Page. Doesn't give an error,
    just doesn't change the document.
The other problem is that in manage sites>edit>remote
info, I enter my username, password, click the save button, and all
is ok. When I close DW and re-open, the Username and password are
gone, will not connect to my ftp.

You downloaded the remote site files?
Is the .dwt template file in a folder named "Templates" that
    is in the root
level of this Local Site Folder?

If yes- known issue. go to adobe.com and download the 8.02

  • Dreamweaver template won't change images

I am using Dreamweaver 5 on a Macbook Pro and I have been trying to change the Header image in my site.  I would go in and change the image using the CSS panel but the image itself will not update.  I've tried deleting the old site definitions and recreating them only to have the same problem.
Nothing will change on my template. It won't aknowledge my changed image "i have saved it under the same image name". i've tried changing the name of the image, re-loading it and still THE OLD IMAGE APPEARS!. What the heck is going on? Can someone please tell me where it is getting this image from when I have clearly changed the image, looked at image to confirm it is in fact the changed image prior to attaching it.
I am completely puzzled and Desperate as my client expects these changes. Thank you.  In the mean time I will try to just upload the changed image to the web and hope the template uses the updated image on the server.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

Dreamweaver 5 means Dreamweaver CS5 correct? Can you give us a bit more info on your workflow? How's your site set up? Where does this image reside in comparison to the root of the site folder (make sure the image gets saved to the site folder)? Is the file path to the image correct? Make sure to turn live view off and back on again?

  • Dreamweaver template not updating Contribute pages

Currently I'm trialing Dreamweaver (MX) and Contribute
    (3.11), to check
that it's a workable solution for my company, in terms of
    editing and
auditing, but right now I'm having a problem.
I have some templates (.dwt files) that I create in
    Dreamweaver, for
use with Contribute, i.e. I create the template, other people
    create
the content for our site based on the those templates.
The issue is that when I make a change to the template, I
    would expect
the pages created in Contribute to be refreshed to use the
    new
template, but that doesn't appear to be happening. The only
    way I can
get the page to be updated is to edit the page in Contribute,
    go to the
Format menu and choose 'Template Properties', then hit OK
    again to
close this dialog. I then see the page refresh with the new
    template
    changes.
Am I doing something wrong? I would expect, as I mentioned,
    to have all
pages automatically updated when the template is saved, and
    published.
Is there a setting I need to turn on, or a procedure of
    publishing the
template that I need to adhere to?
    any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply Mark. While I think I've found most of
the things you mentioned since my first post, it is useful to get
confirmation of my finding, which appears to be consistent with
    your post.
Here's what I've found, and later, why I'm not really liking
    it:
If I edit the .dwt file in Dreamweaver and try to save it, I'm
prompted to only update those files I have locally that reference
    the template.
I can only update those local files that are checked out,
though the saving process will check them out automatically
If I create a new page using Contribute, I must refresh the
    templates first
    My concerns are:
if I can only update those files I have locally, then do I need
to have the whole remote site stored locally too? My company site
is huge (as it's translated into 6 languages) and has multiple
contributors/editors. It sounds like I will have to download the
entire site before I edit a template, and put it back again
afterwards. Is that right?? it sounds rediculous, so I'm sure I've
    got it wrong.
if I have the files locally, I must check them out before or
while saving the template. However, I then have to check them back
in manually. Again, with potentially 300 to 400 pages per template,
that's a lot of manual checking-in. If the saving process can
automatically check pages out, can it also automatically check them
    in again??
Like you, Mark, I find it strange that Contribute requires a
manual refreshing of templates. I've searched all the options I can
find, but I don't see an auto-refresh templates setting, which
would be sooo useful. As it stands I will have to instruct each
editor/contributor to refresh before they create a new page, and
    pray that they do.
any further advice from Contribute/Dreamweaver users would be
greatly appreciated. How do users with very large website handle
this? Are there any tricks or hints that you can pass on?

  • Dreamweaver templates not updating on second installation

I have just purchased the new Dreamweaver CS5.5.  I installed it on my laptop first and it is working fine.  However the package is not working correctly on my husband's laptop.  He is finding that the templates are not updating the files despite going through the process. I am the 'techie' in our partnership and I did make sure both installations were identical.
Updates we are trying to make are outside of the editable regions.
It has taken me years to get him to accept an update for this programme, and now it doesn't work for him, he is not well pleased at me spending hundreds of pounds, when the Dreamweaver MX2004 worked well for him.
Please can someone point me in the right direction to put this right.
    Jean

We are not working on the same templates.  In our partnership, I build the templates and then turn them over to my husband to input the content.  The particular problem we are incurring at the moment is on a fully functioning website.  We noticed that on changeover from Dreamweaver MX2004 to CS5.5, the css file wasn't being read, the difference being:
    from  <link type="text/css" media="all" rel="stylesheet" href="/styles/style.css" />
    to <link type="text/css" media="all" rel="stylesheet" href="../styles/style.css" />
don't really understand this, but having updated the template, the dialogue box came up asking if you want to update all files connected to template, said ok, and the finish dialogue box says 211 files updated.  But when you open the file it hasn't actually updated at all.
Website looks ok online now as he has went back to MX2004 to upload a new page.

  • IPhone Music Sync not making changes?

So, I've been having this issue for a while and it's annoying the heck out of me. What happens is that once I sync a song over to my iPhone, I can't make any changes to it at all via my computer. An example would be me syncing Pink Floyd's "The Wall", noticing that it has the wrong release year, changing it on iTunes, syncing it over, only to find out that it still keeps the wrong release year. This problem covers everything. Ratings, lyrics, anything related to music data. Deleting the songs/albums does not fix it, as the phone still retains the incorrect data. The only way to get rid of it is to do a complete restore, which I've done 4 times in the last two days. Help?

What do your options say when you plug the iPhone into iTunes?
    Mine look like this
Make sure manually manage music and videos is selected.
    Have you tried:
    Sync over Wi-Fi
Using a different cable to connect iPhone to your computer
Check when editing ID3 Tags on songs/albums that they save in iTunes
I run into these issues all the time and I use iTunes all day everyday. Trust me I know it's a hassle sometimes the best solution for me is to get a better source when getting your music.

  • "publish" not making changes

I've updated the site and click "publish" but the changes to not appear. I've saved it and such...
    what should I do?
    thanks! LP

try emptying the cache in your browser.
Often you don't see the changes with your own computer right away because your browser is opening the previously cached files stored on your hard drive rather than retreiving the new page from the internet.
Emptying your cache should fix this or just add a "?" to the end of the address in the address bar and hit return, this seems to force the browser to get the file from the internet rather than use the cache.

  • DreamWeaver Template change not updating children webpages?

    Hi Group,
Sorry for my newbie question here.
I loaded an HTML webpage, and saved it out as a DreamWeaver Template file.
I then created webpages from the template file (( File - New - Page From Template - Site - Template), and made sure that the "Update Page when Template Changes" check box was selected/checked.
I then created several chldren webpages, and saved them as .html files.
I decided to change the navbar system - part of the uneditiabel region in the template - by opening the template file and edit-ing that file, and then saving it as the same DreamWeaver template file.
However, the webpages did Not Update to reflect the navbar changes in the template fle !??!???

    Additional Info:
No -I haven't been able to get the DW Template feature to work on other sites - this is my first application of it to a website (actually it's the whole reason for getting DreamWeaver... I know it works, I know that I'm doing something wrong.. I just don't know what it is...)
All the .HTML files (index.html, cad.html, cam.html, etc. etc.)  are in the website's root directory.
The Template file is in its own sub-directory folder named "Templates".
Right now even the .css file is in the root directory....
Thank You for trying to help me -  I greatly appreciate it.

  • Dreamweaver template file (.dwt) updates related files but not file time stamp

I updated a bunch of dreamweaver template files, and allowed dreamweaver to update the affected files in the site.
The file were all checked out, and they were updated.
However, the timestamp of the files did not update.
Now, when I synchronise with my server, it doesn't see these files as being "new".
Any way I can get these to update the timestamp without manually finding and pushing all of them?
    Using Dreamweaver CS5 V. 11.0 Build 4993

This is certainly an odd symptom, and one I have not heard of before.  If you just create a new 'dummy' child page from this template and leave it local (i.e., don't check it in), when you do an update does that timestamp change?
