DreamweaverMX - locked template or translator
I have designed an intranet in Dreamweaver mx and have discovered an extra </div> in some of the templates.
So i removed the </div> and carried on editting some of the pages that use the template and tried to create a new file using a template that had the extra </div> removed.
When I save the file a window comes up saying unable to save this as locked template or translator. The changes will be discard.
I have tried coping and pasting into notepad and resaving but to no avail. I have rebooted incase it was a glitch in the system no.
I can't progress unless this gets fixed.

Newbie help me obi wans: ...coded locked by template or translator
Hi Folks,
I'm such a newbie to DW I've been using it for a few years actually, but in a very basic sense.
I dloaded a template, added some graphics, made some buttons etc.. and of course text, but when it comes to coding,
I've only figure out how to add spaces lol
I'm trying to add a flash video to my samples page. I can add images, but every time I add the .flv, I receive the subject message.
So here are 2 issues:
1. I don't know if this related to #2, but I can't erase the 3rd column...or even use it. it's locked - I see a circle with a line through it. The template I bought did say it was 3 columns, but I don't understand why I can't touch it. I've attached a tiff of what it looks like right now.
2. as the subject says "changing code is locked by the template is locked a template or translator" is giving me grief.
I've reviewed the previous posts on the subject, but I'm afraid my newbie-ness has left me not knowing what to do. ie. I can't find a time/date to change...I see the <head> and <script>, but they're greyed out on the one page I'm trying to edit. They're not greyed out on the template page however.
I also tried saving my .dwt as a new template, but that didn't work either.

I found the 2 things to change, but when I go back to my page...everything is gone! eek
(fear no panic - I did back up my website prior to making any changes
(file attached).
it looks like there is only 1 column instead of 3 sections. I was hoping to lose just the one on the right.

will provide generations with a history on their forefather
in this biography.</p>

"locked by a template or translator" in Editable Region - CS4
Hello,
I am working on a series of ASP homepages using repeating regions in Dreamweaver CS4. However, I am encountering "Making this change would require changing code that is is locked by a template or translator. The change will be discarded." errors.
On each homepage, I have two levels of nested repeating regions set up as "slides" (Top level) that contain "news blurbs".
Inside each news blurb repeat instance is an editable region.

When I attempt to add any new paragraphs inside a news item (<li class="blurb"></li>) in design mode, I get
an error message telling me that the area is locked by a template and/or translator. However, I can still type additional text
into pre-existing paragraphs, as well as insert images. Attempting editing in code view works also works.
Individuals that will be updating each page are going to be using design mode, so I can't go for the obvious work-around. I have no idea why the error keeps occurring. Could anyone clarify this?
Fixes suggested in other threads that haven't worked:
making sure the page has valid markup ( passes XHTML 1.0 Transitional)
ensuring that the region is marked as editable ( it is editable )
Current ideas as to potential causes:
something I missed in the code that's triggering dreamweaver to throw errors
nested repeating regions are somehow creating the issue
I am mostly sure that ASP is not causing this, as I have been able to reproduce the issue in an XHTML-only child page of the same template.

DW MX 2004 - locked templates - links impossible
Hi, Sorry if I'm bringing up a discussed item, but I can't
find more than three messages on this issue, and they don't help.
On Win XP Home SP2, using DW MX 2004, with ColdFusion, I
can't link pages to the index.cfm page. Every time I use the "Link
this page to existing page", I get the message:
"Making this change would require changing code that is
locked by a template or translator. The change will be discarded."
So... no links. I've tried disabling the display of CSS code,
as mentioned in the forum thread I found, but this doesn't help.
Any ideas? If I weren't bald, I'd be pulling my hair out...

The warning that you describe means "Oops - DW found an error
somewhere on
this page or in one of its linked files". That's all - no
more, no less.
It likely has nothing to do with the change that you just
made or the
editable region.

I see a lot of the same questions.
In my case however I use no templates or translators in my file.
I use several included files, but they have no head or body tags inside of them.
The message popped up when I tried to convert this file:
The International Lymphedema Guest Book: Behandeling
in Dreamweaver from html strict to xhtml 1 transitional.
What can be the problem?

Last night we thought it was a problem with the server settings.
The settings are adapted, and now the included files do show up in the browser.
But when I tried to convert the doctype in Dw just now, the same message turned up, so this problem isn't solved yet.

And it works just fine - EXCEPT that DW will not allow me to

Behaviors to the page - giving me the usual message about a
locked
translator and so discards my changes.
I bet there is a trick to avoid this. Any ideas?

That's because the INCLUDE file cannot contain <html>,
<head>, and <body>
tags - so there is no place to apply a behavior. All that

Hi - I somehow accidentally locked my code or my template so
that I cannot make changes to my code. I can only change my pages
using the design view. If I try to change my code in the code view,
I get a message that says "Making this change would require
changing code that is locked by a template or a translator. I am
indeed using a Template but I have no idea how I managed to lock
it. Does anyone know how to unlock it? In the meantime I am
changing all my code in Notepad - kind of a pain. Thanks!DW is very picky about having valid code on your template
controlled pages.

Getting error: "code locked by a translator"

Setting Non-Translatable template to Translatable

I made a template which should support translations. But, by mistake, I forgot to mark it translatable. Now, when I look into this template, and got to edit configuration or update section, i can not find any option to make it translatable.
Can anyone tell me how to acheive this?

VarunI made the same mistake, I think you cannot delete it, right? Just add a new one and make that translatable, and export that to make your xliffs. Can you expire the one you made?
Link your new translatable template to the same data def. It lets you do that.

"Label Template" After Translation
When we change the template of the Label from 'Optional' to 'Required', then, the translated application does not reflect this change ! What do we need to do ?
My primary applicaiton is developed in English. Translation is done in Japanese, and the users see in japanese. I had to change the template from Optional to Required, and 'Required with help' for some. But when I do this change, I can see the changes in English (with an asterix being displayed for the Required), but the users (translated japanese application) do not see this change.
Since this is just the CSS part, why is this not getting changed?I republished the application and after that, the Label got rendered correctly.
Do we need to Publish the Application even for template changes ? -

The editable region is INSIDE of a <P> paragraph tag
and a <blockquote> tag.
Try this-
Open the template file
click into Editable Region 3
In the quick tag selector (list of tags at bottom left of
design window)
right-click on that <p> tag and pick Delete tag. Same
for the <blockquote>
tag. Save the template. Can you insert a table now?
Next issue:
Most of the link paths have Templates/ in the path.

If the file photos.html is in the root level of the local
site folder, a
link to it in the template should be either:

and not:

How to save the template with cell locking?
Hi Gurus,
I have successfully locked the cell by using Data validation of Excel function in BPC input schedule. But when I save and reopen it once again the data validation does not work. My target is to distribute the cell locked template to different users thru offline wizard. Can anybody let me know how to save the data validation in the template ?

Application language don't translate templates ?
Hi,
I use APEX 4.0, Oracle 10g, Windows XP Pro SP3.
We need 2 languages for our application (fr and en).
I do the following :
- Download translatable text to translation file (XLIFF FILE)
- Modify it
- Apply XLIFF translation file
- Publish Translated Application
I use the session by setting &P_LANG=fr or &P_LANG=en to switch language.
It works, text is translated, but my pages looks different, as if some CSS was missing.
The problem is that I modified some templates, for example, in the NoLabel item template, I changed :
<span class="t6NoLabel">bla bla</span>to
<span class="noLabel">bla bla</span>to apply my own CSS 'noLabel'.
So when I take a look at the source code, I see class="noLabel" in the fr version and class="t6NoLabel" in the en version ! So t6NoLabel is not found and the page is not displayed correctly.
I tried to set the template as "Translatable" (checkbox) but it seems it don't change anything...
Have you got an idea ?

I think it was made automatically in APEX 3.2 because I don't remember having already done it.

Problem inserting FLV into template based page DW8
Error when inserting an FLV into a template based page.
The error is: "Making this change would require changing code
that is locked by a template or translator. The change will be
discarded."
I thought perhaps something was wrong with my code so I
created a new page in DW8, with one word of text. Saved the new
page as a template with the one word of text made into an editable
region. Created a page based on that template and attempted to
insert a FLV file into the editable region (using Insert > Media
> Flash Video). I still get the error message. I've attached the
code for this page.
I also get the error message when I go through the tutorial
Presenting
Video with the Flash Video Component in Dreamweaver 8. Using
the files provided in the tutorial.
Is the only workaround for this the one I found here?:

Steps are under heading "Workaround for Locked Code insert error"
near bottom of page.
