Drill through with OLAP Universe on Essbase cube

Hi all
How can I achieve drill through from an Essbase cube to an Oracle database?
Is there an option in OLAP universes to achieve this?
If not do I have alternative options?

Hi,
There is no way to activate drill-through from Essbase to any other database within OLAP universes.
If you are using Web Intelligence you have 2 alternatives:
<li> The first one is to create 2 data providers (1 on Essbase and 1 on Oracle) and synchronize them.
This is not really a drill thorugh operation but you have both data sources in sync in the same document.
<li> The second option is to create 2 Web Intelligence documents (1 on Essbase and 1 on Oracle) and then parameterize the Essbase document to use Opendoc capabilities (hyperlink) to dril-through on the Oracle document.

Combining relation facts with dimensions from an Essbase cube

Hi!
I am having trouble combining relational measures (from EBS) with dimensions from an Essbase cube. The dimensions that we want to use for reporting (drilling etc) are in an Essbase cube and the facts are in EBS.
I have managed to import both the EBS tables and the cube into OBIEE (11.1.15) and I have created a business model on the cube. For the cube I converted the accounts dimension to a value based dimension, other than that it was basically just drag and drop.
In this business model I created a new logical table with an LTS consisting of three tables from the relational database.
The relational data has an account key that conforms to the member key of the accounts dimension in the Essbase cube. So in the accounts dimension (in the BMM layer) I mapped the relational column to correct column (that is already mapped to the cube) - this column now has two sources; the relational table and the cube. This account key is also available in the LTS of my fact table.
The content levels for the LTS in the fact table have all been set to detail level for the accounts dimension.
So far I am able to report on the data from the fact table (only relational data) and I can combine this report with account key from the account dimension (because this column is mapped to the relational source as well as the cube). But if expand the report with a column (from the accounts dimension) that is mapped only to the cube (the alias column that contains the description of the accounts key), I get an error (NQSError 14025 - see below).
Seeing as how I have modeled that the facts are connected to the dimension through the common accounts key, I cannot understand why OBIEE doesn't seem to understand which other columns - from the same dimension - to fetch.
If this had been in a relational database I could have done this very easily with SQL; something along the lines of select * from relational_fact, dim_accounts where relational_fact.account_key=dim_accounts.account_key.
Error message:
[nQSError: 14025] No fact table exists at the requested level of detail

Avneet gave you the beginnings of one way, but left out that a couple of things. First, you would want to do the export of level zero only. Second, the export needs to be in column format and third, you need to make sure the load rule you use is set to be additive otherwise the last row will overwrite the previouse values.
A couple of other wats I can think of doing this
Create a replicated partition that maps the 3 non used dimensiosn to null (Pick the member at the top of the dimension in your mapping area)
Create a report script to extract the data putting the three dimensions in the page so they don't show up.
Use the custom defined function jexport in a calc script to get what you want

OLAP Universe and drill through with Essbase

Has anyone created an OLAP universe on top of Essbase that allows the user to drill through back to an Oracle database?

Drill through using Ragged Hierrachy from Essbase

Problem Description
I have a requirement to provide the drill through functionality after drilling down to the lowest level for unbalanced ragged heirrachy but the issue was that
the lowest level grain was shared across different level. This we overcame in RDBMS by introducing skipped ( jumping the all leaf level to the last column) or Psedo balanced
( repeating the leaf level till the last column) and then using the Action link and providing the leaf level member as the parameter.
But now the problem is we need to do the drill through in Essbase sourced cube in obiee where the heirarchy is ragged unbalanced and I cannot change it to skipped / psedo balanced.
Pls. suggest how to achieve the drill through after drilling down to teh leaf level as the leaf level is shared acros sdiffernet levels.

We have handles drill thorugh in obiee11g using RDBMS as data source by making this ragged heirarchy - a psedo balanced heirarchy by repeating the last level till the end. and then using the last level as the column for drill through parameter.

But the problem is we cannot do this essbase cube . Pls. suggest how tohandle this in cube where we cannot manipulate teh ragged heirarchy.

OLAP Universe on MSAS2005 cubes

All,
I have built an OLAP Universe on top of MSAS 2005 cube. I have BOXI3.1 base version in Windows.
I am seeing two immediate problems
1. Atrocious performance - A simple query that will return in a snap in say Proclarity or Excel keeps running for 15 - 20 mins.
2. Once results are available, if i try to go back to the "edit query" panel my webi report panel just freezes. I can close it and go back to infoview, but my current query is lost. I see this behavior ( report panel freeze - mine is Java2) also in a long running query.
Can anyone kindly assist with suggestions based on your experience.

Thank you for your response. It is indeed my understanding that significant improvements have been done in SP2 and higher releases and we do look forward to the improvements in the next release.
However i currently am tied to BOXI 3.1 base version. SP2 is still under packaging within our firm so i am not expecting it to be fully ready and tested for two months.
I need to expose our cube based universe with the BOXI3.1 base version ( no fix-packs, service packs) in a month. So basically i am looking for any configuration tricks/tips that will help me improve performance
Based on your suggestions
1. We recommend to not create one big query but prefer to create several queries in Web Intelligence with synchronization.
- Can you provide more details on this?
2. Moreover it is also recommended to create mandatory filters in the universes (a la SAP variables) to filter the data.
- Would not refreshing the universe structure over-write filters that have been created? My apologies if this is not true,
i tried this a few months back and saw this behavior.

Planning drill through with EPMA members

I have a webform and it displays a field 'Asset Desc' which is member of Accounts Dim. This member is only at EPMA and not in Essbase.
Once the Data is entered through webform, I should be able to drill-thru with 'Asset Desc' along with other details.

What do you mean by it is not there in Essbase? If it is showing up in webform and you can enter data it'll be there in Essbase.

Drill Through reports takes too long

Hi all,
I need some suggestions/help with our drill through reports. We are using Hyperion 11.1.1.3 and the cube is ASO.
We have drill through reports set up in Essbase studio for drilling down from Essbase to Oracle database. It takes too long (like 30 mins for fetching 1000 records) and the query is simple.
What are the changes that we can do to bring down this time. Please advice.

We tried optimizing the drill through SQL query but actually when we run the directly in TOAD it takes *23 secs* but when we do drill through on the same intersection
it took more than 25 mins. Following is our query structure :

Enable/Disable Drill-Through Reporting?

We have a BSO app which has Drill-through reports (defined in EIS).
Reports are working fine.
Is there a way to disable/enable drill-through reporting on an App/DB using MAXL?

I am not exactly able to understand how this whole drill-through reporting concept works technically.
We define meta-outlines in EIS. Define Drill-through reports for Meta-outlines.
We build the cubes in Essbase using the EIS Meta-outlines.
Drill-through reports are available for these cubes from excel Add-in.
I am clear till now, now starts my confusion...........
I assume there will be a connection to EIS whenever user does a drill-through through Excel Add-in.
When I rename the Application in Essbase, I see drill-through reports are still available.
Are there any files/artifacts (like filters or scripts) on the Essbase app that correspond to drill-through reports?
Is there a way to tell if the app is created using EIS or not, just by looking at the app in EAS?
I believe I am asking the complete concept :).

Designer gets closed when integrity check is run - OLAP Universe (MSSAS)

Hi All,
I have an OLAP universe (Designer XI 3.1). The source cube has been built and deployed using MS SQL Server Analysis Studio 2005. When i try to run an integrity check to parse objects the designer closes down automatically. This issue is only with OLAP universes, other universes work just fine. In fact I remember the same universe was working perfectly well a few months back. Recently I had to re-install BOXI 3.1 due to some issues with the registry files but after the re-installation this is the first time I am working on an OLAP universe.
I checked MDA.log file and found the following error logged there multiple times (each time i ran the integrity check):
Failed to locate the LogFormat settings in the registry. In this case, the LogFormat will use the default format.
I searched the net for a possible solution but couldn't find anything useful. Has anybody of you faced a similar problem? Is this a registry issue?

MDX OLAP Universe does not allow for a Top 10 rank on measure.

I am trying to Rank a measure by Top 10 in count on a MDX OLAP universe based on Web Intelligence. The rank works, however for all the zeros in the row values it gives the same rank and keeps on appending. I then tried to rank a measure with the MDX syntax in the SELECT statement of the measure itself. The syntax is as below:

Order([0MATERIAL__0MATL_GROUP].[LEVEL01].CurrentMember.Level.Members

The XML is parsed because of the tags, however when using this measure in the query panel gives an error message for the prompt. Is there a way to rank a measure by Top 10 in the MDX statement above instead of the prompt for the Top/Bottom. I found the syntax in the OLAP Best practices guide.
Kindly revert for any possible solution. Any inputs are highly appreciated.

Thank you for responding! I have gone through the OLAP Universe best practices as suggested by the guide. However, the Ranking has an offset of repeating the ranks for same value metrics. So if I need a Top 10 and there are 3 zero values in the column, the ranking extends to Top 13. is there any way to hardcode this as a predefined filter in the Universe on the measure, which states that the rank stays limited to Top 10 irrespective of repeating values?
Kindly suggest if there is a work around for this!

Drill Through - Essabse and FDMEE

All,
I am currently working on EPM 11.1.2.3. Testing the Drill through feature of FDMEE from Essbase (Smart View Interface). The source is a flat file. In the application setting i have selected the Drill Region as "Yes".
When I try to drill the cell imported from smart view I encounter an error stating "No Drill through reports found at this location"
Any idea on this

I take it the export stage in FDMEE was successful and data has loaded to Essbase, what type of mappings have to applied, drill-through will not work with like mappings yet and explicit will need to be used.

I am new at working with Olap Universes BW, and I have to edit one universe SAP BW, I don't know if I can to use substring function on a select statement, for example substring([0D_DIV].[LEVEL01],5,5), I try to use this function but I have a error,

First of all I recommend you read the documentation that gives you information about OLAP universes and especially SAP BW universes.

Now you can customize expression using MDX in OLAP universes. MDX expressions must be enclosed with <EXPRESSION></EXPRESSION> XML tags.
Unfortunately SAP BW MDX does not support calculations that return string or date values.
The onlyway to return string is to use NAME or UNOIQUENAME attribute.

We have created a number of Cubes from the AWM, and access the cubes from a web based application through the OLAP API. The cubes have both base measures and custom measures. Custom Measures are computed by creating the source object for given Formula Expression. The application works fine for a single user, but when a same cube is accessed concurrently by multiple users, we get the TransactionalObjectInvalidException when we call the MdmMeasure.getSource() function for the custom measures.
Since each individual users have individual contexts and the static methods are properly sunchronized, we havent not been able to trace this error so far. The exception is thrown by oracle.olapi.data.source.ImmutableDefinition.checkValidity() API method. Error Trace is:

Olap universe(creating new object)

All,
I am using bo 4.0 version and i have created an olap universe on top of bex query.i am new to olap universe.
I have a need to create a new customized object in my olap universe out of two existing objects.As of now i am creating variables in my webi report generated out of the olap universe to fit my need.Instead i want to create a condition object or some kind of object in the universe itself.
how can i do this?Any ideas or suggestions.
For ex:
my requirement looks like this,not exactly the same as indicated below but similar.
existing objects
city object has certain values 'hyd','new york'
currency objecthas 'rupee','dollar'
new person object out of the above mentioned existing objects
if city='hyd' and currency='rupee' then 'indian' else 'non indian'
how can i do this?Any ideas or suggestions.

Hi,
there's a function builder / formula editor in Universe Designer, with OLAP universes this uses MDX syntax with XML markup.
to build up some logic, you need to use the "IIF" operator.

Prompt binding and OLAP Universes

Hi All,
I use a Universe query on an OLAP Universe to get data into live Office. So far so good. The query uses a prompt for a period. When I bind the prompt to a cell I see a string that shows me the last selection instead of showing me a list of values . The string looks like:
January [Period].[YearQuarterMonth].[YearNumber].&2007.[1].[January]
When I change both occurrences of January to March and hit return, the query runs again and retrieves new data.
So it looks as if it does the right thing, it just does not show me a list of values. Is this a limitation with OLAP Universes? (prompt binding works fine for relational Universes). Version used is BOE XI 3.0.

IEven though it is advised to filter the data at the source BW but care should be taken that you dont limit the functionality by building a very complex query at BW. as a best practice dont try to come up with a query which we will use to devlop a Universe and it server only 1 report. Intsead, make use of the Universe capabilities.
Build your query with all the necessary dimension, measures etc and try to keep it simple but not creating Mandatory prompts and other restrictions. Instaed create variables at the Universe level. Universe designer allows to build variables, mandatory prompts, formulas, Hierarchies.
This way we will make this Universe leverages to a group of reports rather than few reports.
