Drive in mirror consistantly going offline

I have an Apple G5 Xserve running 10.4.9
I have the boot drives in a mirror'd configuration
It is working as a file and mailserver to approx 20 clients (mac and windows), I have had no problems for many months.
One of the drives in the mirror failed.
I reseated the drive just in case I could get it to respond, but nothing
I replaced the drive and rebuilt the RAID, which completed successfully.
But now every morning I find that the Mirror is again degraded with the same drive showing "failed"
I use "disk utility" and rebuild the RAID. This again completes successfully
The problem is occurring nightly between midnight and 1am, when nothing is going on on the server.
The following is in the logs
Apr 16 01:00:55 sybserver kernel[0]: AppleRAID::completeRAIDRequest - error 0xe00002ca detected for set "Mirror" (4FEDAB08-9DE9-42BA-9951-8CC450483379), member C75E19D6-DB06-43A5-8413-ED686EDFBCE0, set byte offset = 1611411456.
Apr 16 01:00:55 sybserver kernel[0]: AppleRAID::recover() member C75E19D6-DB06-43A5-8413-ED686EDFBCE0 from set "Mirror" (4FEDAB08-9DE9-42BA-9951-8CC450483379) has been marked offline.
Apr 16 01:00:55 sybserver kernel[0]: AppleRAID::restartSet - restarting set "Mirror" (4FEDAB08-9DE9-42BA-9951-8CC450483379).
There is nothing in the logs prior to, or after this issue occurs.
I have been searching but cannot find an answer, can anyone point me at information that may help solve this.
TIA
Tony

Are you rebuilding the mirror with the same (failed) drive, or are you replacing the drive each time.
If you're using the same drive I think it's obvious - there's a fault on that drive and you're risking your data by continuing to use/rely on that drive.
If you are replacing the drive each time then the question is whether it's the same drive bay that's failing every time. If it it it could indicate a faulty bay/connector that's impacting the drive.

  • Need help with iMac intel desktop - Mac mail consistently going OFFLINE

I need help with Mac mail - it is frequently going "offline" and requesting me to "take all accounts online". My internet is working. It's been checked, checked and checked. Sometimes it just takes a reboot of the system and the modem to kick it in and make the little triangle symbol go away, but should I have to reboot daily? I have the Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 installed. Is there a bug here or am I supposed to upgrade to Mavericks? Any help is most appreciated.

For me this is an issue caused by my email service provider.  When they are slow to respond or to accept the password Mail takes that as a password rejection, and prompts me to reenter password, and eventually goes offline.

  • Wd passport goes offline

mac pro, "early 2008", a new WD Passport USB 2.0 drive, used for TimeMachine, goes "offline" if the computer is inactive for some time. Have to disconnect the USB line and reconnect it. Have many external drives, only this one behaves this way. tx

Some drives require more power than is steadily provided by USB. You may want to try an external Power supply for your drive.

  • EA4500 USB drive going offline

I have the latest firmware installed.  I have an Intel SSD drive formatted as NTFS attached to the USB port.  I have a device which has the drive mounted and copies files to the USB storage once a minute.  After about 3 hours, the goes offline and I have to discconect it and reconnect it.  The files are about 16Meg.  I'm not able to see anything in the log as it wraps by the time I catch the error.  The drive is readable from another computer.  The device making the copies sees an empty directory but will see all the folders when the USB device is unplugged and replugged in, then brought online.
Any idea what causes storage to go offline?

Try another USB drive on the router and see if it will have the same problem. Do try another device or computer, too, to see if it will get the same issue. It is possible that you may have to reset the router and reconfigure from scratch. • FCE,WD MyBook 1T USB External Drive, Media going offline

    Hey Everyone:
I am having a problem with the above combination which I am using on White MB (the last version before the newest version). Each time I go back into the FCE file there seems to be files going offline and then having difficulty reconnecting.
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Although USB 2.0 HDs are not officially supported, in my experience (and that of many friends) they work perfectly.
In any case, should they cause any problem at all, it would likely be in connection with some form of erratic video playback and not simple file recognition.
So I strongly suspect there is some other factor involved.
You don't say anything about the video format or your version of FCE . . . . . FCE 4 only works with DV and HDV TAPE cameras together with AVCHD ones.
You mention nothing about your method of working or whether this is a new problem or it has never worked.
In addition to providing us with more info take a look here:-

Incidentally, are you moving or renaming the original captured video, music or photos? Any movement or renaming of the original media files or anything connected with them will result in an offline event.

  • RAID 0 Goes Offline

I am using the K7N2 Delta ILSR mb.  I have two 80GB Seagate SATA drives raided 0 as a single 160GB drive in Array 1.  I have a 40GB Maxtor drive on IDE3 that I use as a back up in Array 2.  For some reason the 2 MAS drive just goes offline.  It did it once while I was installing WinXP, and tonight while I was in the proccess of backing up important files.  Each time this drive goes offline, the entire RAID goes offline.  So I went into the RAID BIOS and sure enough it reports that array 1 is RAIDed as 160GB, but only one drive is available (1 MAS).  The second drive only shows ?:?.  If I try to create Array 3, then the "lost" drive is available to be used in that array.  However, it cannot be used in Array 1 anymore.  What gives?  This is really frustraing.  I have tried resetting the CMOS and turning off the computer for several hours without any luck.  The only way to remedy the problem is for me to delete Array 1 and then recreate it.  Of course all of my data is gone after doing this.  Any help will be appreciated.

I was running into the same issues and then I figured out what my specific issue was which may not necessarily be yours.
I found that the power supply adapters for the Serial drives where the culprit. These things are built so cheaply that if I even slightly nudged the cable, it would bring one of my drives offline and require a rebuild every time. Thank God for mirrored raid! The only way I'd ever run a striped raid is if my raid bios could do 0+1.
My recommendation: don't use the adapters - they're utterly useless. Did I mention worthless?
What fixed my issue was getting a very nice power supply that has the SATA power connectors hard-wired into the power supply. The one I got cost a few bucks but it's reliable and stable voltages really sold me. I have not had the problem since. Oh yeah, nice warranty too. Would you believe I don't work for them? I tout their P/S because I like them that much.
    I got mine here:

Hope this helps but I think Wonkanoby was on the right track in the beginning when he asked about your power supply.

  • Mac Pro RAID 5 disk goes offline frequently in a random way. What can be causing this odd behavior?

    Hi dudes,
I installed recently two Mac Pro RAID cards inside their corresponding Mac Pro systems. Four 2 TB Hitachi SATA disks are contained inside each system, and configured as RAID 5. Yes, the operating system is installed on this RAID 5 volume in order to get the highest performance of the array, taking advantage of the RAID 5 protection (Autodesk Smoke runs in each system; this application works only with uncompressed video in real time). I already had tested both systems keeping separated the boot disk just for the operating system, and making the RAID 5 volume just with three 2 TB disks, but the performance was slow on both systems.
The performance is now very good, but unfortunately, in both systems happens that sometimes one of the disks goes offline with no apparent reason. The RAID Utility immediately reports the failure and it is mandatory to declare as spare the disk that went offline. Then the rebuild process begins, but in the meantime, the performance goes down in a noticeable way. Sometimes it is even worse, because the disk disappears completely. Then, it is mandatory to turn off the system, and boot it up again, in order to see in the RAID Utility the missing disk, which needs to be declared as spare in order to be reintegrated into the RAID 5 volume in a slow rebuilding process.
Some important remarks: this very new Mac Pro systems do not have the iPass cable (at least apparently; I already disassembled completely one of these systems). This cable is mentioned in one Mac RAID card manual that I found over the internet. The diagrams do not match exactly with the Mac Pro nor the Mac Pro RAID board. I did not find a proper iPass connector in any of the Mac Pro RAID cards (?!). So, my guess is that currently the communication between the system and its Mac Pro RAID card is just by means of the internal bus. I think that if the iPass connection were mandatory, the RAID Utility would report it with a noticeable error message. Please advise.
I think that these Mac Pro RAID cards need a firmware upgrade, in order to be able to work fine with big SATA drives. Again, please advise.
    Thanks in advance from Mexico.
    Sincerely,
    Martin Ponce de Leon

    Hi Grant,
Thank you for your prompt response. The manual is a PDF document issued by Apple and it seems OK, but no updated to the latest Mac Pro system and Mac Pro RAID. I do not find the link where I found this manual. The systems belong to one of our customers. As far as I remember, in the printed manual included with the boards, it is not mentioned anything about the iPass cable, just about the battery cable. Do you know where can I get a PDF manual of the latest Mac Pro RAID card and the latest Mac Pro system? This client is far from our offices. So, I would prefer a PDF copy of this manual.
The drives that have gone offline, once they are back, are reported in a good status in the RAID Utility. Besides that, I have tested them in another system in our facilites, and all of them work fine. So, my guess is that the high capacity drives are not yet supported by the Mac Pro RAID card, or it requires a firmware update.
They do need to have in the same volume OS and video storage because three disks do no provide a good performance (they need also RAID 5), but four disks work fine... excepting when one disk is missing. Please advise. Thank you.
    Best Regards,
    Martin

  • HP Photosmart B110a constantly goes offline and won't print via USB either

    Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8
    HP Photosmart B110
I've connected the printer to my wireless network without any issues, but when I first tried to connect my macbook pro to the printer, it would keep disappearing from the network. Once I finally managed to connect it, every time I go to print something now, it will always say it is offline. Even when I try and bypass the wireless connection and connect via USB, it will still say it is offline.
I've have tried reinstalling the printer and driver many times, and I've tried connecting 2 other macbooks via the wireless and all experience the same issue. It is starting to get incredibly frustrating having to reinstall the printer over and over again.
I would appreciate a solution that would prevent it from always going offline, even If I have to give up the wireless 'feature' and permanently print via USB. I do not have time to continuously fiddle with the settings every single time I need to print a document.

Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

  • HP Officejet Pro L7590 goes "offline" from my HP Pavilion laptop

My network printer (HP Officejet Pro L7590) goes "offline" from my HP Pavilion laptop often.  I have to uninstall it and reinstall it in order to print again.  It doesn't happen all of the time but about 90% of the time.
Documents will stay in queue but not print.  I can't uninstall it completely without deleting any documents in queue.  It's so frustrating!!
How do it get it back online without having to go through this? Do i need to reinstall a printer driver or update it?  How can I tell if I need to do that?

  • HP 309A goes offline daily, can't keep wireless connection

I have tried chat help, hands on computer tech in my home ($$$$), re-installing multiple times from start to finish, setting IP address to manuel, nothing works....it prints for an hour or a day and then goes offline again and I have to do the whole thing all over again.  I'm sick of this....bought the printer in 4/2010 online.  I'm past the return date.  Any body have a real, permanent solution for getting this printer to work wirelessly?  I was very happy with my previous HP all in one printer...it finally wore out.  If this isn't solved soon, I'll dump it and NEVER buy another HP product....HP are you listening?????

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.  I wish I had a summary of what the others who have tried to help did.  But because I don't, a little more information would help.
When you say 'goes offline' do you mean the printer  display says offline or the connection to the printer from your computer?
Is the time of the 'going offline' consistent or random - maybe after a specific amount of time?
Do you have another network you could connect the printer to temporarily to see if the problem still happens?
Has the printer always done this or did this start after a few days or weeks?
I'm just trying to determine if this is a printer issues or the environment where the printer resides.  If it is the printer you should get it replaced - especially if this issue has been happening since day one.
    Thanks,
    Foster

  • Officejet pro L7590 always goes offline on my hp pavilion

My HP Pavilion notebook is "wirelessly hooked" to my wireless router (mororola).  my hp officejet pro L7590 is also physically tied to my wireless router (not using the printer wireless).  When i install the printer, my computer recognizes the printer on the network/wireless and allows me to install using the appropriate driver etc.  I can print fine for a little while.  If i turn off the computer or it goes to sleep, somehow, the printer goes "offline" and I'm unable to print.  I'm having to uninstall & re-install the printer each time this happens.  It's as if my computer is not recognizing that it's still communicating with a printer once it's gone to sleep or restarted.  Such a pain.
BTW - my home desktop computer (also hp) is hooked to the printer and never goes offline.  It probably doesn't have this issue b/c the desktop isn't having to connect wirelessly via the router.
    Advice??

  • LR 1.3.1 crashes when catalog goes offline

Ok, this might be a rare occurrence - most won't ever see it - but when my 18 month old turns off my power strip before I catch him playing with it and my external hard drive goes down (the one with my catalog and photos on it) and LR is open (which it always is)... well let's just say that LR doesn't handle this very gracefully... it generates roughly 50 identical pop-ups saying "method not found: viewAttribute" and finally after clicking OK on all of those another dialog says "Lightroom encountered a problem... There was a problem reading one of the catalogs..." or something like that.
Of course, when I start it back up it has to go through a database integrity check and to its credit there is no corruption. However, it seems like LR should handle a catalog going offline without crashing and having to run an integrity check every single time. What if someone unplugged an external USB storing a live catalog before closing LR... there are other scenarios. Just a thought / something to add to the wish list.
And, yes, in the meantime, after this happening several times to me :) i am moving the power strip somewhere else.

There have been problems reported with Google Maps and Safari 1.3.2. Seems Google has change/upgrade its web code. The only work-arounds at the moment are use another Browser such as Firefox for the Maps, or upgrade to Tiger or Leopard.
As software code continues to evolve, Safari 1.3.2 is becoming more dated. Instances such as these in Safari 1.3.2 will become more frequent in the year ahead, especially as various sites adopt more advanced code.

I'm having trouble with printer going offline on two of my computers:

I repaired the permissions on both hard drives to see if it was a cups/communication issue and deleted and reinstalled the software/printer.

  • Can't get flash drive to work consistently

I am having trouble getting my Buffalo RUF - C/U2 flash drive to work consistently with my iBook. Sometimes it magically connects, other times it doesn't. When it's connected, it works perfectly well. Getting it to work, though, is starting to drive me mad.
I've an iBook, running OSX 10.3.9. Processor 1.2 Ghz Power PC G4. Memory: 768 MB DDR SDRAM. There's about 20 Gb of free space.
I've tried to narrow down the cause of the problem, but with no luck. Re-booting and/or disabling the other USB port doesn't seem to make any difference - neither does attaching the device with the machine powered on or powered off. It seems to have a mind of its own.
    Any advice?

It is just "VERY" annoying that i can't get it to work.
I found out something by going to www.adobe.com with my iphone 4.0 and search under flash
No wonder i could not figure out what was wrong, the reason for it is that Adobe and Apple is not
very good friends apparently. Or so i could understand, don't take my words for knowing this correctly.
I would still like to know a "date" for when it comes out, currently our whole firm is using Apple Iphone 4.0 cause its nice but, we would really like to be able to make some use of flash for the firm.... So we are thinking about changing our phones out for another model that might be able to do and run flash.

  • HP OfficeJet 6500A Printer goes offline shortly after setup

    Hi,
Question is: How do I stop my HP 6500A e710a-f printer from going offline? (this is NOT the 6500A+)
I have a Dell laptop running Win8.0, connecting wirelessly via a Huawei B593 LTE router. Printer is HP 6500A using the E710a-f driver. Printer is attached to the router via an ethernet cable.
I can create a new HP 6500A printer and print a test page over the wireless network. However, shortly after this, the printer goes 'offline'. I have tried to re-connect by restarting the Printer Servies, but - again - this only helps for a short period of time. i have also re-created the printer from scratch by deleting and then re-creating the printer. Again, the same result.
This should be a standard offering for what is an expensive home office printer with standard ethernet ports. Most home offices use wireless routers - so this should be a simple connection.
I have looked through the Forums, but not seen any definitive answer - a lot of suggestions over the last few years, but no straight answer.  Apart from the guy who left and bought an Epson instead........!
It cannot be that hard to fix what should be a standard offering for this printer.
    Can someone help me?
