Droid 2 Global Exchange

Hi,
I currently have a Droid 2 Global, and I'm not very happy with it. I was wondering if there was any way for me to upgrade or exchange it with the Droid X without paying a bunch of money?
-Nick

If you are within 14 days of purchase, you can return your phone for a full refund less a $35 restocking fee and upgrade to another phone later, or you can do one exchange at no cost to a different model (you will pay the price difference between the two phones if there is one).
If you are past 14 days since your purchase, then your no, Verizon will not accept the phone as a return.  If you want a different phone, you can buy one used, or pay full retail through Verizon.  Once you activate another phone on your line, you could sell the current Droid 2 to someone else if you like to recoup some of the costs.
Your other options are to use an upgrade from another line on your account (if you are on a Family Share plan and have another line that is currently eligible), or add a line to your plan.

  • Multiple exchanges on the Droid 2 Global

Has anyone else been having bad luck with the Droid 2 Global?  My gf's sister is on her 4th one, each phone she gets turns out to be one major issue.  One three of them has been a dead spot on the screen, and on another it was a charging issue.  Its been almost a year now being with Verizon and having to exchange a phone 4 times is getting a little annoying.  Just want to know if anyone else has been going through this?

I am on my 5th phone in a year and my 6th one should be on its way! I hate droids and def don't suggest that anyone get the Droid 2 Global! Neither of the keyboards work and it keeps shutting on and off!
They haven't done anything to help me out, they just keep sending me the same phone and the same issues keep happening, what they don't understand is that its annoying having to call them every 2 months and them doing the same thing over and over again. Always a reset and then they send me a new one! I am so tired of Verizon, I kinda wished i would have never left AT&T!!!!!!

  • Droid 2 Global Issues (And a trade in question)

    Hi,
I have a Droid 2 Global, and it's alright. However, sometimes I don't receive texts. If I don't get any texts for a few hours, I restart my phone. Often enough, a flood of texts will come pouring in. My phone also restarts by itself several times a day. Also, my audio is a little strange. Whenever I play any kind of music on my phone, there are short bursts of static within the song. I have no idea why. Based on this, am I eligible to return my droid and get a replacement?
I have the total coverage warranty, would I still end up getting a "like-new" replacement?
And is there any way I would be able to get an HTC Trophy replacement instead of another D2G?
    Thanks

    Hi Nrcrast,
If you are within 14 days of the activation of the Droid 2 Global, you can exchange it for a different device for a $35 re-stocking fee. If you are outside of the 14 days, then troubleshooting would need to be completed. If it is determined that a replacement device is going to be sent, it would be of the same model, as it is a warranty replacement.
With regard to the delay with messages coming in, I would like to ask if you keep your phone powered on most of the time? I ask because I have checked my references and I am not showing that this is a known issue with the Droid 2 Global device.
It is a good idea to get into the habit of powering the phone off and on once every couple of days, and not to leave it powered on for days or weeks at a time.  There is no need to leave the phone powered down for any significant amount of time, a minute or 2 is perfectly fine.  The reason for this is that every time a cellular phone powers on, it re-registers itself with the network.  There is a constant connection from the phone to the network, and this registration can sometimes "time out". This could resolve the issue with the delayed messages.
Your posting also mentioned that you hear bursts of static within a song. This is also not showing up as a known issue with the device.
Does this happen when playing downloaded music? Pandora? A different music application?
Is it happening with the same song, artist, or genre?
Do you notice any pattern when it does happen.
Lastly, regarding the portion of your posting that mentions the phone re-booting, you may want to try a soft reset and/or a factory reset.
    Soft Reset
Remove battery when the phone is powered on
    Wait 60 seconds
Re-attach the battery and power back on
    Monitor the device
If the soft reset does not resolve the issue, the next step would be a factory reset. I have listed the steps below.
    Factory Reset
Please note that this setting erases all data from your phone, including your Google or other email account settings, system and application data and settings, and downloaded applications. It will not erase current system software and bundled applications, or files stored on an optional installed memory card, such as music or photos. For this reason, please make sure the data on your device is backed up.
    Select Menu
    Select Settings
    Select Privacy
    Select Factory Data Reset
Thank you for your posting and have a good day!

  • Class 6 SD card causes problems / lock ups in Droid 2 Global

My Droid 2 Global phone came with an 8GB SD card and I want to increase it to a 16GB card.  I purchased an adata 16GB Class 6 micro SD card.
I copied all my data from my 8GB card to my laptop.  I then copied the data from the laptop to the 16GB card.  Put it in the phone and started the phone.
The phone had difficulty seeing the SD card and locked up.  Removed battery, reinstalled, restarted.  Similar problem.  Tried various apps and calls - worked (poorly) on some tasks, and locked up on others.
Formatted the card in the camera and then used the USB cable to move data from the laptop - similar symptoms.
Formatted the card in the laptop, placed the card in the phone, and used the USB to copy data to the card - same problems.
Stepped up the process by performing a hard reset on the phone, formatting the SD card, reinstalled apps and tested before adding personal data - still locks up.
I reset the phone again and put my original 8GB card in - once apps were reinstalled and data was pulled onto the card and everything works normally.
I really want to use the larger SD card, but I haven't been able to get it functioning..
I even saw a message somewhere that stated the Droid 2 has problems with Class 6 cards but have found nothing supporting that concept.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Grandpa777

When I replaced the SD in my D2G card with a 16GB one, I researched several cards and class ratings.  Two things seemed to crop up over and over.  Class ratings as an indication of maximum speed are not the same across manufacturers.  Some Class 2 were faster than Class 4 and class 4 faster than Class 6, etc.  Not all, but it was a crap shoot.  Second, Class 10 cards did not work well in all Droids, nor did some Class 6. So I bought the following:
SanDisk 16 GB microSDHC Flash Memory Card SDSDQ-016G Class 2.
It has worked flawlessly for 8 months.  And seems fast enough for my needs.
My recommendation, for what it's worth: Buy a 16GB SanDisk SD card no higher than Class 4.

  • Droid 2 Global: OGG supported as ringtone, but not as a playable music file?

I've been having some trouble playing .ogg music in the music player (by trouble I mean it comes back as mostly static), though Android 2.2 is supposed to support ogg natively. Motorola's site on the Droid 2 Global shows something interesting: http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/ci.DROID2-Global-US-EN.alt
It lists ogg under supported ringtones but not under Playable formates. Huh? What gives? I've even tried different players that are supposed to support ogg on this phone but they do nothing. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? How is it that the ringtone can play it but the player cannot, even though Android 2.2 supports the formate?

Oh me of little faith. The replacement phone syncs both ways. I guess there must be some data corruption that persists past a hard reset.

  • Two Droid 2 Global phones - Flaky since software update

I have two Droid 2 Global phones which were purchased at the same time.  Ever since the last software update, which I believe was the Gingerbread update, these phones have been acting flaky in several ways with various features just shutting down and only a restart of the phone able to make them work again.  Both phones have been having the exact same problems so that leads me to believe it is likely software related.
    1) It quits ringing...even with ringing volume turned all the way up, incoming calls just don't ring. Same with text messages.  Restarting phone fixes the problem.
    2) The camera will take a picture, but when you go to look at it in the gallery, it is just a blank image.  Unless you go look at the gallery, you have no way of knowing the picture didn't take.  Once again, restarting the phone fixes this.
    3)  I have similar issues with the bluetooth.  I sync it up to my car stereo, but sometimes it just won't sync until I restart the phone.
With the age of these phones, I suspect there are no more software updates on the way from Verizon.  Can anyone confirm that?  Unfortunately, the last software update also prevented <Deleted per the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service.>  Any suggestions on how to get these phones some sort of software update or useful again?  A phone that doesn't ring isn't much use.

        Hi jksoft,
I know how troubling these difficulties can be especially when it's happening to two lines of service. I extensively researched this trouble in our database as well as Motorola's and was unable to find this as any known trouble. The gingerbread update was the last release for the Droid 2 and no expected changes as of now.
Are you using the ringtones and notifications that are preloaded in the phone or the ones you have obtained elsewhere? If you haven't tried it yet, please use a notification tone and ringtone that is from the device itself. Let me know if this makes the device work correctly.
The trouble with camera and bluetooth don't have troubleshooting steps other than doing a hard reset of the device. This will completely wipe out the device but items like contacts and media can be backed up. To complete the reset go to http://bit.ly/rqKDhh and follow the steps for the preferred method. Please keep us posted as we may need to file an investigation with Motorola to review this.

  • Signing up for a new plan with Droid 2 global

I want to sign up for a new plan (I am not a current verizon customer), switching from Tmobile. The problem is that the phone I want is the droid 2 global, which I cant get in stores until the 29th. I could order online, but I wont be at my home for the next few weeks to pick up the phone.
There is a verizon store where I am going, but I will not be able to sign up for the new plan from there (due to some un related reasons that you dont need to worry about)
My main question is, is there a way for me to sign up for verizon's services before monday the 29th, and only pick up the phone from a different store later?

What is the point in signing up for the services before you have the phone?  Your current T-Mobile device will not work with Verizon.  If you have a Verizon phone already, you can call in or go to the store and ask to have the device activated on month-to-month service and port your number over if you wish.  You'll then have service on your Verizon phone, but no contract, leaving you free to sign a contract and get the Droid 2 at the subsidized price when and where you wish.
If you don't have a Verizon phone, you'd just be paying for service you can't use, so why not wait until the Droid 2 is available at the store you want to buy it from?

  • Brand new droid 2 global there is a ? in the battery indicator

hi i just got this droid 2 global last tuesday and today i noticed a ? in the battery indicator today. thinking it was odd i turned off and pulled battery, then put it back in. still there. when i put in the charger it tells me battery is not compatible with the phone. i switched batteries with my gf droid 2 global and the battery worked fine with hers, but her battery when put in mine still showed the ? in the indicator....plz help

The ? indicates an issue with the battery, from your description it's hard to tell if you may have a bad battery or if it's an issue with the connection to your phone. Your best bet would be to tasked the phone back and get the whole thing replaced. If you do it before the new 14 day return window, you should be able to get a new replacement which would include a new battery. Beyond that, they may try to give you a refurb, which it's just as good as new, but normally doesn't include the battery or back cover. They will probably have you do a factory data reset first (menu> settings> privacy> factory data reset) so you may want to try that, but I have a feeling it won't help.

  • How to use SIM card in Droid 2 Global?

So I have a Droid 2 Global because it has SIM card capabilities. I called Verizon to allow international roaming. Then I got the unlock code for my phone. Next I put a new-bought SIM card from China Mobile into my Verizon Droid 2 Global.
However, when someone calls my China Mobile phone number, my phone does not react. The caller hears a prerecorded message that the China Mobile phone number is incorrect or not connected.
When I call with my Droid 2 Global with the China Mobile SIM card inside, the receiving person sees my Verizon phone number.
My question is: How do I get my Droid 2 Global to recognize and use my China Mobile SIM card?
I don't want it to use my Verizon phone number while I am overseas. I like my Verizon service in the U.S., and I plan to return to it.  I just thought the idea of a global phone with a SIM card was to be able to travel to other countries and use another SIM card if need be, and the sales representatives at my local Verizon store sold me this idea of international usage. Other users seem to have no problem. Please inform me of how it works
    Thank you!

Hi mortb, thanks for your input.
However, that is not true about SIM cards. You can find accurate information about SIM cards through your search engine or even Wikipedia. SIM cards are meant to be swapped out. SIM cards are used in Europe and Asia more than the U.S. "The SIM card allows users to change phones by simply removing the SIM card from one mobile phone and inserting it into another mobile phone or broadband telephony device" (Wikipedia- SIM cards).
A SIM card holds the prepaid account value, telephone number, the user's address book, call logs, texts, etc. A lot of websites give the analogy: Say your phone is dead but you need to make a call. You can use your friend's cell phone with your SIM card and call. You won't be using your friend's minutes, but your own because you are using the minutes from your SIM card.
In my case, I want to use a local cell phone provider to make local calls. Theoretically speaking, I can do so if I swap out my SIM card for a local network's SIM.
Now Verizon locks all its phones to their Verizon SIM cards, so Verizon phones can only use Verizon SIM cards, but the Droid 2 Global allows you to unlock your SIM, meaning that you are going to put in another SIM card, aka another cell phone service provider.
So I am confused why I cannot use another carrier's SIM card. Can anyone explain why? Or what can I do to sync my China Mobile SIM to my Droid 2 Global?

  • Droid 2 Global: symbols attach to last word when typing???

I have searched and did not see any other topics about this. Has anyone noticed a problem while typing on the Droid 2 Global (in text messages, browser, etc) that if you type special characters/symbols, they attach to the end of the word you previously typed?
For example, a normal sentence would type like this:
"Hey I'm running to the store & I'll call you later."
However, on the Droid 2 Global, it types like this:
"Hey I'm running to the store& I'll call you later."
The & automatically attaches to the end of the previous word, even when I press the spacebar before typing it.
This happens for all symbols I have typed. Sure I can go back and edit it, but it is SUCH a pain to go back and RE-ENTER the space, when I already pressed the spacebar in the first place. I have tried turning "auto-correct" off and it still does this while typing. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!

This is a well-discussed issue on the Motorola Forums, see https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/316254#316254
for the same issue on the Pro.
It will be fixed in the next update, whenever that will be!  Unlike some other stuff though, we can be fairly sure that it WILL be fixed.  The Droid X had the same issue and the update to that did solve the problem.   One solution discussed there is to download Swiftkey (free) which alsosolves  the issue on  the physical keyboard.   Didn't work for everyone though.

  • Droid 2 Global unlock to GSM ((

    Hello there!
    I have a big problem!
I'm not from USA, I'm from Ukraine.
I've bought Droid 2 Global A956 on Ebay. Seller said that it's already unlocked. I've received phone after 1,5months (so I couldn't open case cause time expired). And when I put my SIM - phone said "Enter unlock code" ((   I've contacted seller, but he says that phone was unlocked, he lied to me(
I've tried to buy unlock code on ebay but that didn't worked!!
Tell me please, how can I unlock my phone? Or where I can get unlock code?? ((

    Thank you.
But I don't have a privilegue to sell on ebay..
Tell me why.. why does VZW change friggin unlock codes??
T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint does not do that!
Is changing codes used by VZW to raise an army of haters?
I have searched the web - and found many people with problem like mine.
And all of them are speaking bad words in the direction of VZW.
I like Motorola phones, cause they're exclusive in here, but I don't understand VZW politics!!!
    Why ?????

  • Droid 2 Global Not acting very global

I just upgraded my Blackberry Storm 1 to a Droid 2 Global.  I worked through Verizon support to ensure the Droid 2 Global is enabled for international use, and used the *228 feature before leaving the US as instructed.  I also had Verizon support unlock the old Blackberry just in case the Droid 2 Global had any issues.
I am glad I have the unlocked Blackberry!  The Droid 2 should have been a direct device upgrade so I am assuming it is enabled in the countries I frequently travel.  So far the Blackberry is still connecting everywhere with a strong 3G signal.
The Droid 2 Global on the other hand is spotty.  It connects in Shenzhen, China with no issue, yet can only see a signal in Hong Kong and refuses to connect.  Now in the Philippines the Droid 2 Global works in Manila but fails to find any service in Laguna (25km south).
In the mean-time the Blackberry is working just fine with a European global SIM card.
I cannot figure out if I have a Verizon issue, or if the Droid 2 Global is an inferior device.  Rebooting and fiddling with the network options has no effect.   Has anyone had these problems and figured out how to resolve them?  Verizon e-mail support has not responded either.

I assume that the Global isn't unlocked?   I haven't had issues with the Global (but some have).  If possible, try putting the SIM from the Global into the Blackberry, and see if the connection is still good.  If not, it might just be that the European SIM works with more providers than the Vodafone one  (that, and the costs of calling, are why I always prefer local SIMs!)

  • Droid 2 Global Gingerbread User Guide?

Is there a User Guide available for Droid 2 Global with the GIngerbread update?
The info sheet here (http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/droid_2_global.pdf) shows all sorts of "enhancements" but not how to use them.  For example, how do you set up app groups, and what on earth is "Multi-Touch Key-Chording"?
The link to "Device Manual" (http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/index.html?p=5567&m=)
links to the pre-update (Android 2.2 Froyo) manual.
    Thanks!

DatGyrlVida, if the phone bugs you so much, get a different phone and pay for the change. Your rant and near flaming are not needed here. Your phone frequency problem could be anything, including the junk of apps you probably installed on the Droid interferring with the phone's operations. If you want some assistance on this forum, please describe your phone issues professionally and we can see if we can resolve it together.
And no, I do not work for VerizonWireless.
My experience with my Droid 2 Global is that I had it replaced three times under warranty due to loss of 3G connection, and a reboot could not resolve it. I since then purchased My Backup Pro app to do a complete phone backup, so if I need to replace the phone again (to my SD card or private cloud), I can reimage it. Plus, whenever I install a new app, I do a full backup beforehand so if the app corrupts my phone (or interfers with any phone operation like reception), I can do a reimage on the phone to the previous working state. Uninstalling the offending app does not necessarily remove the junk from its installation. Something for you to consider...

  • Droid 2 Global Issues - notif. bar and incoming calls

Ok, I've had my Droid 2 Global for about a year now, and for the most part it has been fine. However, on the latest couple of updates, some really annoying "features" have come up. On the current update, the notification bar disappears randomly. Not known cause. Also, if the notification bar disappears, when I receive and incoming call, it doesn't display the "answer call" screen, showing the contact. This makes it difficult to answer the call, especially when the screen is locked. I have to go unlock the screen, and go to a screen like I'm going to call someone, and THEN I can see who is calling and maybe answer. If it hasn't gone to VM already. This is really stupid - first and foremost, this thing is a FREAKING PHONE. I should be able to answer a call.
    Frustrated. Any ideas/help?

Currently, I am not showing a way to remove the Street View for Google Maps application from the device. If you are adamant about removing this feature, the next available option would be doing a factory reset. This can be completed through the following steps:
    Factory Reset option 1
From the main screen, touch menu tab
    Touch Settings
    Touch Privacy
    Touch Factory Data reset
    Touch Reset Phone
    Touch Erase Everything
Warning: This will erase all data from your phone, including:
    Your Google account
System and application data and settings
    Downloaded Applications
It will not erase: Current System software and bundled applications; SD Card files, such as music or Photos
Factory Reset option 2  - Warning this will reset device back to original factory settings.
    Turn off the phone
Power on phone while pressing "X" key on qwerty keypad - release "X" and power key after you see Motorola batwings.
You should now see an "!" in a triangle with Android guy
Press the "Search" key on qwerty keypad to enter factory menu, this will unhide the menu and show the following options
    Reboot system Now
    Apply sdcard:update.zip
    Wipe Data/Factory Reset
    Wipe Cache Partition
Use Vol Up / Vol down to navigate to "wipe data/factory reset" and then use Camera side key or Menu key to select "wipe data/factory reset"
Use Vol Up / Vol down to navigate to  "Yes delete all user data" and then use Camera key to select "Yes - delete all user data"
Wait for operation to complete (maybe 1 minute or so) and then press camera key to select "reboot system now"
