Droid Incredible Power button

This has probably asked before. If it has then I apologize. I have the Droid Incredible. It is by far the best phone I have ever had. This is the second HTC phone I have owned. My question is, is there any way to NOT have to push the power button on the top of the phone top get the phone to wake up. This is, simply put, a pain the the derriere. All I want to do is one of these options. Touch the screen, touch a menu button or the optical button. I do not want to touch the power button or the volume control buttons. I have looked on Phandroid forums and tried a variety of screen lock features, but all they do is address the screen swipe. They don't address the power button issue. Can someone help?

@walkinaz08, check out these two applications in the market...
Proximity Screen Off
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.itsme4ucz.screenoff&feature=search_result
Tap Tap App
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.maicas.android.wsleep&feature=search_result
Both seem to use the proximity sensor instead of a power button. I personally have not tried them, but think that this is what you are looking for...
Hope this helps!

  • Droid 4 Power button

After I updated my phone I've had two issues. One is the shift function that's been mentioned elsewhere in the forums, the other is the fact that my power button only intermittently works. I had no issues before the update, after the update I have this problem. What are my options to address this issue?

I've been geeking on computers for 10 years (I mean building them, taking them apart again, experimenting with OS's, virtual OS, etc.) and my lesson has been to try and control as much as one can at the consumer level.  This becomes all the more relevant with these OS and config updates that vendors try to roll out to a multitude of devices and device manufacturers at one time.  It's cheaper for them to crowd source the problem discovery and the problem solving (i.e. what you and I are doing on these forums) than to try to properly develop branches of the code for the Droid 3 versus the Droid 4, etc.
I was disappointed on 04 April when I first had this power button problem, but I also knew what one thing had changed: I had chosen to manually update the YouTube app just before the problem appeared.  This tweaked my suspicions that it was related to apps which make higher level use of the device's graphic drivers, like the YouTube app does.  So for a day or so when I had time, I experimented with uninstalling the suspect app, then re-installing, to try and get a repeatable situation.  Low level GUI apps such as browsers don't trigger the problem, but at least in my case, apps using higher level graphic driver functioning like YouTube or various weather apps, do trigger the problem.
For the above reason, the first thing I did when I got my Droid 4 a year ago was to turn off the ability for apps to auto update.  Auto update just introduces another level of variability making it difficult to track down a given problem one step at a time.
If you go to Verizon store and get a rep who cares, you can tell them about the problem description.  You'll see others posting that Verizon is giving out new devices/handsets because of the problem.  Your mileage may vary because of the nature of the technical skills of the rep standing in front of you at the time.  A rep with some technical skill will simply roll you back to the previous OS config - and the problem will be gone.  (And they should tell you not to accept a Verizon update.)  Verizon runs pretty slow on these things.  I wouldn't expect them to develop all the branches for all their devices until late Summer, and then roll the fix out.

  • HTC Droid Incredible - Power Cycling

I am having issues with my Droid incredible powering itself off. For months it worked with no problem at all, now it happens constantly. It will be fine and out of nowhere it shuts itself off and as it is powering back on, many times it will actually cycle off again before it completes it's reboot. On multiple occasions it has had to be "factory data reset" as all apps are wiped out once it finally finishes cycling on and off.
I have tried limiting any installed applications to ensure that they are not the problem, and am still getting the issue. The only things on the phone are the items initiated at set up (contacts from backup assistant, gmail account, facebook account, yahoo mail account, and twitter) and it is still happening. Verizon sent a replacement phone, and within the first 3 days, it happened three times without me being able to even install any apps.
Has anyone run into this, know what may be causing this, or hopefully how to fix it?

Mine has been doing the same thing. My husband kept telling me that I just use it to much or I need to stop breaking phones....lol, I did actually break one of them. But this is rediculous, I can't even get online sometimes before it freezes then shuts down. I have noticed when it does this the back feels hot. My brother in-law who works for Verizon told me to take the battery out for a while then it should be fine. Well I did that and was still having issues. So I talked to him again and he said to turn the power offf for like an hour a day so it can rest. Yup tried that too....doesn't matter still powers itself down when it feels like it. I am glad its not just me and I am not the only one this is happening to. Just proves that I am not breaking it....there is just a problem with it. What is the solution if it is no longer under warranty? Just deal with it until your contract is up?
    Hi richardsara,
If your phone is no longer under warranty we can still provide you troubleshooting steps that may resolve the issue and you can still benefit from future software updates (if any) developed by the manufacturer. Since you already did a soft reset (battery pull) I would recommend to do a Hard Reset to your phone. This will bring your phone back to factory settings and will resolve any issues resulting from corrupted system files or 3rd applications conflicts.
Please keep in mind that performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.

  • Droid Incredible Broken Power Button

I have a Droid Incredible that is less than a year old, but suddenly yesterday the power button quit working.  The phone was on when it happened, and I thought I should reset it to fix it, but now the phone is permanently off.  I can tell it's not the battery because the charging light is green, meaning it's fully charged.
    Any answers?

  • My humble opinion about Droid X vs Droid Incredible

I had a chance to try out a Droid Incredibile for three days. I prefer the Droid X for several reasons:
On the X I can place any phone contact on any screen and use either a widget or an apps. With the Incredible you are limited to "favorites" only and limited to nine. I see no way to set up another "favorite" on another screen..
You are limited to what widgets you can set up on your Incredible. It must be a completely blank screen or else such widgets as FM radio will not go on.
Sadly, the Incredible does not have Swype, which I use all the time on my X.
You can not set up vibration only for notifications.  You can only wake up your Incredible by tapping the power button, with the Droid, you can also tap the home button to wake it up.
Finally, On the X, if you are on the very left screen and wish to go to the very right screen, you swipe and tap on the three buttons and your there. On the Incredible, you must swipe the whole way.
None of these are very big deals, I grant you. But they are minor irritants
Oh, don't get me wrong, there are things I wish the X could do like the Incredible. For example, the lock bar is so much easier on the Incredible to open up. The manner in which you delete a widget/apps from the screen is so much more easier on the Incredible than on the X.
As far as bars, and this IS a big deal. With the X I get 3g and four bars at home. with the Incredible, I get 3g and only two bars. Gladly, it doesn't interfere with calling or talking.

You can place shortcuts on any screen to about anything, including a contact. You don't have to use the Favorites widget.
Only a few widgets are full screen size. Some of them offer two different sizes.
You can get the Swype beta for Incredible.
Vibration only for notifications: Goto Volume in Sound Settings and turn the volume all the way down for notifications. Make sure the Vibrate option is on.
Wake up button: Correct, and I like that way. The "home button" or any other front button is too easily pressed while in a holdster or pocket.
Moving to another screen: Pinch zoom any home screen to see minature versions of all screens to pick from.
Besides the above, is there anything else you like better on the X? How does the camera and camcorder operation compare? And the resulting photos/video? Does the size of the screen really make a difference? I'm asking because I just got the Incredible, but have 30 days to switch to the X if I want.

  • Droid Incredible 2 won't turn on or charge.

I have had this problem before, right after I got the DINC2. Yesterday, I wanted to take out my memory card to save pictures on my computer via a usb card reader. I turned my phone off by pressing the power button and selecting power off. I removed my battery, and then removed the memory card. After transferring my pictures, I placed the memory card back in the DINC2, and placed the battery and cover back on the device. I pushed the power button, and NOTHING. The phone won't turn on. I plugged it in to the charger, and the amber light won't even come on. I thought it might be the charger, so I used the USB cord attached to the computer, and still no charging light. I have removed the battery overnight, and just let it set. When I reinstalled the battery this morning, still nothing. The charging light does not come on, and I can't power up the device.
I had this problem before. I had let the battery run down to nothing and the device powered itself off. Same scenario, the charge light would not come on when plugged into the charger, and I couldn't power up the device. I left the battery out overnight, and the next morning the device still wouldn't power on. I placed the phone in my car, and plugged in my car charger. After a few minutes, the amber light came on, and I was able to power up the device. This, however, did not work this time. Nothing I try helps.
Is this a common problem? How should I go about getting this resolved?
      Thanks,
      Brian

    Hi Brian,
It must be frustrating not being able to power your phone on. I checked my resources and this is not noted as a known issue with the Droid Incredible 2. Since you are not able to power on the phone, there is nothing we can troubleshoot by phone. I recommend to bring your device to a Verizon Wireless store for a hands on evaluation. You can find a Verizon Wireless store near you by entering your ZIP code at vzw.com/storelocator online.

  • Droid Incredible Activesync losing e-mail contents after reading

I have the HTC Droid Incredible. Using HTC's standard e-mail program witth Activesync, I constantly lose the body of my e-mails after they are read.
It's not always 100% of the time, but happens more often than not.
    Please help!!

It sounds like you have a software issue on your phone maybe from an application downloaded. I recommend performing a hard reset on your device to clear out the settings. Once you do this your device should no longer experience this problem. The steps to perform the hard reset are below:
Performing a factory reset via settings
The most convenient way to do a factory reset is via the phone settings.
    1. Press HOME > MENU, then tap Settings.
    2. Scroll down the screen, and then tap Privacy > Factory data reset.
    3. On the Factory data reset screen, tap Reset phone, and then tap Erase everything.
Performing a factory reset using phone buttons
If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a
factory reset by using the buttons on the phone.
    1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly
    press the POWER button.
    2. Wait for the screen with the 3 Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME
    DOWN button.
    3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
    4. When asked to confirm, press VOLUME UP.
If your phone hangs or freezes, we recommend that you do a “soft” reset instead of a hard/factory
reset. To perform a soft reset, remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, and then re-install it. After
re-installing the battery, turn on the phone.
    Hope this helps.

  • Droid Incredible HotSpot shows iPad connected, but iPad doesn't connect to internet

I recently started experiencing issues with connecting my iPad to the internet via the hotspot connection on my Droid Incredible. It has worked pretty well, until this week. My 3G hotspot tethering screen shows that there is "1 connection", however, my iPad isn't recognizing the wifi connection. Since this issue with my phone, I have been able to connect my iPad with 3 other wifi networks--two were public, one was residential. So, that rules out there being an issue with the iPad's connectivity capability.
My phone's current hotspot security setting is:
    WPA2 (AES)
Is there a DNS # that needs to be included in the wifi preferences screen on my iPad when connecting? Is there an update to the hotspot that I need to download?
    Please help!
    Thanks!

If I understand correctly, your hotspot WiFi network is not displayed on your iPad as an available option? You shouldn't have to add/change any settings if it was working before. Try this from your ipad:
Reset network settings by selecting Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset all network settings, including passwords for other saved WiFi connections.
Restart the ipad. Hold the power button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the power button to turn it back on.
If the hotspot is still not appearing, you can manually add the connection by tapping Settings > Wi-Fi > Other and entering the Wi-Fi network name, security, and password. You can get the WiFi information from your mobile hotspot settings menu.
If this doesn't resolve the problem, you can call Apple at 800-275-2273 or troubleshoot here:

  • Droid Incredible - Replacement Under Manufacturer warranty?

I was curious if anyone has experienced this issue before, and how you went about fixing it.
For a few months now my Incredible's screen wouldn't lock when the power button was pushed. Usually time, autolocking, or eventually it responding locked the screen (or a reset). Occasionally even the lower lights would flash intermittently, on their own, or the screen would wig out and switch to left or right (like you might gesture it to) without touching it.
Beyond these myriad problems, the issue finally peaked yesterday evening. The night before I'd plugged it in to charge, but the screen never locked automatically as per the timeout settings it had always operated on. i.e. leave it alone long enough and it'll shut off and return to a locked screen when you try turning it on again. The entire next day, it never dimmed or shut off, per the settings I just mentioned. I thought nothing of it because, it's happened before. After getting it to restart once, it still refused to shut off or lock the screen - so I left it to die hoping running the battery down would allow a restart.
When I went to plug it in to charge, it only so much as registers in a 'flash' of the HTC Incredible start screen, before shutting off again. It hasn't gone any further since. I thought it might be a faulty charger cable - so I tried my car charger. The same result. Now, the connector for the chargers has been rocky since a few months after I got it - but I've never had a single issue with it not being able to charge. Not until today that is.
So after this novel my question boils down to - did you have these issues? If you did, what did you to do solve it? Just buy a new handset?
This phone is under warranty - it will be a full year come December 2011. I also pay monthly for coverage, but the handset is neither lost or stolen. Just refuses to not behave as if it's possessed. Oh, and the best part? Months ago when I tried finding another phone case? I was told the Droid Incredible is no longer carried/made. Should I expect a comparable replacement, or a full retail charge on my card for replacing the phone?
Fingers crossed the pics and contacts are retrievable.. thanks for your help in advance.

LDubya, after reading your post I said to myself, wow! The issues your dealing with sound very frustrating and I can understand how concerned you are with making sure their resolved. We are as equally concerned with finding a resolution for your issue. Lets start with the lock functionality of your phone. I was not able to locate the issue with your screen lock as a known issue and we currently do not have a fix for it. The issue with your phone not charging, has been reported and has been lifted up to the manufacture for further investigation. With the charging and battery issue, we are waiting on the manufacture to find out if there will be a fix or workaround for resolving this issue. If they notify us of a fix, we can inform our customers.
We can check the software on your phone to ensure the functionalities on your device are working properly. The last software update for the Incredible was September 1, 2011. Here is a link below to review additional information regarding the last update and directions to download it to your device. Although some of the benefits of this update do not directly fix your specific issues, updating your phone can often times resolve other minor issues. I recommend, simply checking the software on your phone and updating if their is one available.
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/system_update/htc_incredible.html
Lastly, I want to apologize for not being able to locate the accessory you want for your phone (case). I certainly understand this type of frustration and would like you to know that we request the manufacture to make accessories for all our devices when they are released and as they are being made. Once the manufacture stops producing the phone because we no longer carry it or because they are making a newer version, they also stop producing accessories for that phone. This would not warranty a replacement.  However, all the issues you mentioned aside from the case may warranty a Certified LIke New Replacement of the same model, if your phone has no physical or water damager.
You can send me a private message to assist you with trouble-shooting and replacement options or you can call customer service at 1-800-922-0204 from an alternate phone.
I listed the steps to a factory reset as a last option but remember, performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.
    1) From the home screen, select the applications tab (located in the lower-left).
    2) Select Settings.
    3) Select SD & phone storage.
4)From the Personal data section, select Factory data reset.
    5) Select the appropriate option:
    -Reset phone
    -Resets the phone
    -Reset phone & Internal storage
-Resets the phone and the internal storage
    6)Select Erase everything.
    7)Perform initial activation.

  • Droid Incredible Issues.

I have been having problems with my phone for atleast a month now, if not more. At first I would get a notification that my mail app was to full ...i couldnt read the whole message of what to do because there is not enough room and you cant scroll the message. well i wasnt able to  text anyone or read texts. To fix this problem, I would just clear all of my messages or anything that seemed full and the notification would go away for a few days. The past week the notification stays up no matter what i do.. i am not able to text unless i use the widget on one of my screens. i can not actually open the app. It just says its full. Well yesterday i got a notification saying that the storage on my phone is full and saying that i had to delete things to make room. I literally only have like 8 downloaded apps and i am not even using half of what my phone has available for storage. I only had 2 text messages on my phone and it wouldnt let me open my messages, do to it "being full". I have tried everything to free up space... there is nothing left to do unless i completely reset my phone. I have read that alot of people are having problems with their droid incredibles and are experiencing similar problems. Today I was trying to text someone and my screen froze when i typed the first letter. When i finally got out of my messages, my keyboard was frozen on the screen and i couldnt do anything. The only thing i was able to do is shut my phone off...but the problem would come back. I kept shutting my phone off because it would be stuck on the first screen. After a couple times of this happening, my phone turned on and just kept rebooting. It never goes to the homescreen... just keeps going through the whole start up cycle over and over again until i take the battery out.

    Hello smaxwell,
I do understand how important messaging is and how frustrating this can be.  We can check a few more things on your device and if successful great if not the next step would be to attempt a factory reset.   Do you have any 3rd party messaging apps on your device?  If so, first remove and see if you still have notification after power cycle.  I would then suggest  going to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>find your messaging app and clear data and cache.  Also, you can do the same steps, but after pressing all apps under manage apps, press your menu button and sort by size and clear data/cache on the biggest apps.  Remove battery after this and retest.  If that doesn't assist you can go to Settings>Sd and Phone Storage>Reset Phone>Erase Everything.  Please keep in mind this will erase everything from your device, so you may want to back up your media to memory card and contact to Backup Assistance, Google or Sd card.  Also, keep in mind you will have to reprogram the phone after so follow prompts to activate and choose option 1.  Please let me know if this is successful for you.

  • Faulty/stuck power button again! Who was the genius that located the ear-jack hole with the "Liquid Contact Indicator" at the top of the iPhone, so perspiration can accumulate and void the warranty

My Power button is stuck again...... like many, many other owners....like two of my previous iPhones.  According to the Genius at the Genius Bar in Reno, Nv., my warranty is void because the LCI which is located in the ear-jack hole on the top, has come in contact with moisture/humidity/sweat.  My iPhone has never been dropped or wet. My iPhone4s is in pristine conditon and is in great working order except for the "stuck" power button, but because of a poor quality and location of the ear-jack hole, my warranty has been voided. Everything I have is Apple.  The Rep/Genius in Reno while fullly aware on the chronic power button problems, tried to put the stuck button on  an exposure to moisture. He said, "It doesn't matter if mositure didn't cause the button to stick or not. Your warranty voided because of the Liquid Contact Indicated turned color. Of course, the "power/sync" hole LCI is perfect.  Thank you Apple! I think I'll refuse my iPhone5 delivery on Friday and go buy a "Droid" phone.
Hey, who out there wants to buy my new iPhone5 when it gets to me on Friday???

Thanks for your reply. I too would not rule out moisture damaging the power button, but ...
I guess was being too subtle. My points are:
    1. "Stuck" power buttons is a known issue/problem and Apple has been dealing with it since the first iPhone. This is quality problem. The evidence is with other users all around us and all over the web.
    2. The "sweat" issue is a design problem and should've been addressed long before the release of the iPhone5 in a few days.  Yes, they moved iPhone5's  headphone-jack to the bottom/underneath of the iPhone. To say that the "sweat" issue is the users' fault is like saying, Apple iPhones should only be sold to swine or other mammals without sweat glands. We're talking about as little as one drop from someone's temple running down the headphone-jack opening while one is engadged with a phone call.  That's all it takes to change the color of the LCI.
    3. Also I wanted to make my complaint public on this forum and not Facebook,  hoping to both, not only catch the eye of an Apple lurker, but let others know of the danger of speaking on their iPhones while out in the sun, high humidity or driving a car with the top down....... my point being, even the free AT&T Go Phones have protection against the slightest elements.
    4. I paid close to $700 for this iPhone4s 64G less than a year ago.  I don't like being dismissed with a cut and dry, cookie-cutter answer from a 20yr old without reasonable explanation and then be shoo'd out the door. "Next?"
    5. I love Apple products and I'm glad the new release has addressed the jack/perspiration problem although I know there were other factors involved in the decisions to not move/move it.

  • Faulty touch screen for my Droid Incredible 2

I have a Droid Incredible 2, but I am having a tough time being positive about it.  The lower edge of my touch screen has become non-responsive and/or finicky at random times.  While on the desktop, I often can't get the "Phone" button to work.  It is like the bottom edge of the touch screen shuts off.  That is quite irritating, but it is not as irritating as it is after I actually get in to my phone.  If I call someone and get an answering machine, I can't hang up.  The "End Call" button doesn't work.  This becomes bearable if I call someone and the person answers.  It is bearable because the phone will let me out of the loop when he or she hangs up.  However, not being able to hang up on an answering machine is quite irritating, especially if it is one that allows for an endless length message.  I've found that powering off is the only way out of that predicament.
The touch screen has been a problem while in other programs, too.  It is a pain when playing a game and not being able to do something because the touch screen gives out.  In those situations, forcing the screen to black and re-dragging down to get it often allows me to keep going, but I don't think I should have to deal with that.
What am I to do?  There is no recalibration for my touch screen.  Is getting a replacement phone an option?  Heck, I am not sure if I am even under warranty.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.
    -Brian

  • Droid Incredible 4g lte global services not working in UK

Purchased global plan for travel in UK, got here, no service.  I contacted support and after nearly an hour with two different people, they've started a problem ticket.  I can get a list of network operators on GSM/  dual, but cannot connect.  I have tried GSM only as well.  It does not seem that I have the very latest software update, but when I check via WiFi for new updates, there aren't any.  Does anyone have any clues about how to get this thing to work?

The DROID Incredible 4G LTE should already be running either Android 4.0+ for its operations system. Which means you can disable many of the pre-installed applications. Go to settings > Apps > slide to the All view. Disable each application individually. You might have to uninstall any updates before the disable button is available.
The DROID Eris is only three years old. It was released in November 2009. 12 minus 9 equals 3.
Also you should be aware, you posted your message on the Verizon Wireless Community. This is a peer to peer forum where customers can give suggestions and advice to other customers with their questions and issues.
If you need immediate assistance call customer service at *611 from your phone or 1-800-922-0204 from another phone. You can also use the "Contact Us" link at the top of the website. However the response from that avenue might also be delayed due to the holidays.

  • Droid4 POWER BUTTON NOT WORKING

The power button on top of my Droid 4 is suddenly not working? The only way to turn it on is to slide out the keyboard.  I can't turn it off, it won't power down.  The phone is a year and half old.  This is so frustrating, does anyone have any idea how to fix this???? I have not been to  Verizon store yet but think I may need to, has this happened to anyone else? any suggestions?

Hi Nicholas in follow up to your question on Saturday, in addition to my reply above, I also went to my local Verizon store, and they said they could not fix it because my warranty ended in June (2013), that I would have to take it to a local cellular repair shop and have them fix it.  Needless to say I was not very happy with that, I think its stinks that after a phone is only a year old that I have to take and pay for a repair that is clearly a defective part on the phone. The gentlemen said he sees this alot on the I-Phones not so much on the Droids.

  • Droid 4 Power up/down problem

My Droid 4 started acting weird today. I cannot power the device up normally. I have to hold power button and volume button, and that only works sometimes. I can power it up by sliding the keyboard out, too.
But then I cannot power it down by the power button, so it times out to shut down, and that drains the battery.

This sounds like a hardware failure, and, as the Droid 4 is less than a year old, you should be able to get a replacement under the 1 year warranty.   The exception would be if the above happened after the phone fell in the toilet/went swimming with you/etc or some similar uncovered event.
One more caveat,Verizon will probably insist that you do a hard reset (Factory data reset) as part of their scripted debugging process.   It's probably worth doing this anyway, just in case a misbehaving program is causing this issue.   As you may be sending the phone back anyway, copy photos/music etc to separate storage (SD card/computer/cloud...)
So call Verizon and they will ship you a replacement (used but allegedly reconditioned!) phone.
(And yes, your replacement may well have issues, probably different.  If so, keep returning.  Eventually you will get one that is good enough!)
