Dropdown of Printer destination with Print button

Hi,
I am trying to create a dropdown list on a form that contains about a dozen different printer destinations. I need to users to select a printer from the dropdown, the click a button that will send the completed form to the printer. I am a newbie so any help is appreciated.
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Acrobat forms (AcroForms) can access a printParams object which has several parameters, including printerName.
Here is an example: https://acrobat.com/#d=fzE2tPnpvftws68XwdjTtA
It is not much of a time saver as the user is still presented with the print dialogue. Please note that you cannot get it to print silently for security reasons (afaik).
I hope that helps,
Niall

• I cannot print from firefox. I can print from open office. It seems to have something to do with when frames open because in IE, I can print a whole page, but when I try to use a print button embeded in a page or frame it does not work.

Cannot print from firefox at all.
In Internet Explorer, I was able to print by pushing the print button, but when opening a frame, like in mapquest, the embedded print button brings up an options window that has print frames options in it, but when hit OK in this box, a second error box comes up with a yellow exclamation point and nothing prints. I have a feeling that it is the same problem with both browsers, but would prefer using firefox. Can you help with this?

      Yes, I tried that.   The files were ordered by their original numbers as imported from the camera, but I batched them through Phocoshop to downsize all of them into a more manageable file size.   I opened that destination folder from quick time  from where it said select image sequence.   I clicked on the first one and opened it.   The result was a large image with an arrow indicating a movie was ready to go.   When I pressed the arrow, though, I realized it had only imported that one frame so there was no movie.   The files are Jpgs and are about 450 KB each.
        To your knowledge are there any links to iMovie tutorials or quick time tutorials that may address this situation?  Maybe there will be one I haven't looked at yet.
        Thanks

• Adobe form validation with Print button

Hi All,
I have an adobe form with field validation (javascript) already set up but I'm trying to add one more feature to the validation.
Let me explain my initial validation first:  I have 18 required fields with their tooltip name having an '*' at the end.  Any fields not filled in with this tooltip marker will show up on an alert message when the print button is selected.
There are two fields called IException and Amount that are required but an End User might have additional IExceptions and corresponding Amounts.  Therefore I have created 5 textboxes for each but only the first IException and Amount are absolutely required (and I use a '*' within their tooltip).  Now if an End User has an additional IExceptions ("IException2") and fills out this field, I need to make it mandatory that "Amount2" would also have to be filled in.
Here is my code:
function validateFields()
var flg = 0
var n = this.numFields
var fArr = new Array();
for(var i = 0;i<n;i++)
var fn = this.getNthFieldName(i);
var f = this.getField(fn);
var tt = f.userName
if(tt.indexOf('*')!=-1 && f.value == f.defaultValue)
flg++;
fArr[fArr.length] = tt;
if(flg>0)
app.alert('There are '+flg+' fields that require a value\n\n'+ fArr,3)
var IException2 = document.getElementById('IException2').value;
var Amount2 = document.getElementById('Amount2').value;
if ((IException2.length >0) && (Amount2.length == 0))
app.alert('Amount is missing')
else
document.ExceptionForm1.print();
validateFields();
Currently when one of the require fields is NOT filled in, i receive my first alert message.  If all required fields are filled in my print button doesn't work.  Also if all required fields are filled in and IException2 is also filled in but Amount2 is not, I don't receive my second Alert message.  So my code works up to the "Var IException2 = document....." and I don't know what the issue is.
Thank you for your help in advance.

One more question,  since I have 4 of these...I'm having trouble getting the button to do exactly what its suppose to based on what's filled in because i think i have my '{ }' messed up and or IF/ELSE statement is wrong...can you please take a look..
function validateFields()
var flg = 0
var n = this.numFields
var fArr = new Array();
for(var i = 0;i<n;i++)
var fn = this.getNthFieldName(i);
var f = this.getField(fn);
var tt = f.userName
if(tt.indexOf('*')!=-1 && f.value == f.defaultValue)
flg++;
fArr[fArr.length] = tt;
if(flg>0)
app.alert('There are '+flg+' fields that require a value\n\n'+ fArr,3)
var a = this.getField('IException2').value;
var b= this.getField('Amount2').value;
if ((a.length >0) && (b.length == 0))
app.alert('Since IException 2 is filled in, Amount 2 is also required')
var c = this.getField('IException3').value;
var d= this.getField('Amount3').value;
if ((c.length >0) && (d.length == 0))
app.alert('Since IException 3 is filled in, Amount 3 is also required')
var e = this.getField('IException4').value;
var f= this.getField('Amount4').value;
if ((e.length >0) && (f.length == 0))
app.alert('Since IException 4 is filled in, Amount 4 is also required')
var g = this.getField('IException5').value;
var h= this.getField('Amount5').value;
if ((g.length >0) && (h.length == 0))
app.alert('Since IException 5 is filled in, Amount 5 is also required')
else
this.print();
validateFields();

• Printing Buttons with Images

In my application, I am attempting to print a document that has both buttons with text and buttons with images, along with plain text.
When I print, the buttons with the images are larger than they ought to be (i.e. they don't fit within the area they were suppose to be drawn within (btw, for this application, I am using absolute positioning)).
However, this does NOT occur with the buttons that have only text and no image.
Can anybody tell me why this might be? It seems that to printing a JButton comes from the functionallity of JComponent.print, which simply sets a few printing flags and calls JComponent.paint.
So whatever changes those flags make, I would think they ought to effect all buttons the same?
Has anybody else run into this problem, and possibly found a solution for it?

myJButton.setSize(new java.awt.Dimension(<width>,<height>));
that line should do it. keep in mind that that will not resize your image. since you are using absolute positioning I will assume your button is of constant size. you should manually resize your images to be of the proper size for your buttons.

• The print button with Win8.1 in any pages don't work, only empty papers

Many web pages contain a print button to print content. Since the upgrade to win 8.1 these buttons no longer work. in other browsers work the same pages properly.

Many print buttons launch a new window with a reformatted page more suitable for printing. If the problem is with the new windows, it could be the Firefox pop-up blocker, or a pop-up blocker in an extension or external security software.
To manage the built-in popup blocker, see: [[Pop-up blocker settings, exceptions and troubleshooting]].
To determine whether an extension is a likely culprit, you could test one of the problem sites in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
Any difference?

• Print button not working with Xerox pluggins installed

Thanks to the wonderful people here I found that if you have any Xerox plugins in /Library/Printers/PPD Plugins you can experience the print button not working.
Removing them fixes it which is nice but I need the plugins, anyone know a work arround?

I've seen this happen with some of our Xerox PPD's on PC's. The cause in this case, is their reference to virtual memory with older OS systems.
I instead used an older PPD or a PPD I had edited to support 200"x200" custom pages sizes, supporting full color.
All I needed was a clean postscript file.
The Adobe 7 PPD writes clean PS.
If you need some kind of VIPP instructions in your PPD for the Xerox, I'd look at getting a newer PPD form Xerox made for OSX.

• Problem with 'PRINT' button in OOPs ALV

Hi All,
I have developed a OOPs based ALV report. When ever we create an ALV we also have to create Menu bar I did that providing fuctionality for 'BACK' and 'CANCEL' buttons in main toolbar. But user wants funtionality for 'SAVE' and 'PRINT'.
How do I do this ?  Is there any stadard code which I can paste in PAI and use it. Classic ALVs handle this by default and OOPs doesn't do this it handles only a table level. But in my report I have a header information also. If user uses the standard 'PRINT' button at table level, only table contents are printed not the header information.
Please let me know how to handle 'PRINT' & 'SAVE' button in OOPs ALV.
Thanks in advance.

• Print Button with blank Pop Up

While trying to print a crystal report through crystal viewer the print button is showing blank and staying still for long time. We are not able to print the report through the viewer.
Any solution please

Firstly it would be handy to know what version of CR you are using?
Is this a standalone application? If so the Print Control is an ActiveX plug-in which requires permissions.

• Print button issues.

Hello everyone,
In order to 'flatten' our pdf forms so that they cannot easily be modified, we have decided to print all of our completed forms to a virtual .pdf writer. Now, we could have all of our users click file-->print-->select 'cutePDF Writer' from the printer drop-down-->hit OK-->Type in a file name for the new .PDF-->hit OK... but I was hoping that I could make their lives easier by adding a button to do most of this for them.
After scowering the depths of the internet, I found this script that I've added to the click event of a button:
var objPrintParams = event.target.getPrintParams();
objPrintParams.interactive = objPrintParams.constants.interactionLevel.silent;
objPrintParams.printerName = "cutePDF Writer";
event.target.print(objPrintParams);
This effectively handles everything up to 'Type in a file name for the new .PDF' step... but there are some issues.
The first is that some of our users may not have cutePDF installed. As it is, the script doesn't throw an error if the printer does not exist. Without the printer installed, clicking the button seems to have no effect. Both pre- and post-print events fire as if the printing worked, even though it didn't. I would like to have a helpful message for the user, but I can't think of a way to check if it failed. If I could get a list of printers, I could check it before trying to print... but event.target.printerNames(); doesn't work, and that was the only thing that i could find to list printer names.
The second issue is that a message is displayed to inform the users the the document is trying to print. "This document is trying to print..." I get that this is a security measure, but the user is pressing a button called print, and having to click a second time may get annoying. Additionally, if they click no by accident, this response is stored until they restart reader... clicking the print button again does nothing.
Ultimately, I'd like to get rid of this message... but if I can't do that, I'd like for it to show each time that the user presses it, both for consistancy, and to allow them to change their minds without having to close out reader, losing all of the filled fields that they entered.
I know that this might be asking the impossible, but I would appreciate any help with this.
- Scott

In the designer, highlight the print button. On the Object palette locate the presence dropdown (near the bottom of the palette). Change the pressence to "Visible (Screen Only)".

• SAP Portal - MSS - Team Calendar - Print Button

Hi Everyone,
My question today is about the behaviours our support team has noticed since rolling out MSS team calendar.  When managers click on print in the iview dropdown menu it opens another window, but the print software is not initiated and no print buttons are visible.  If you do not right click on the screen and force the print command nothing happens.
I can see why this is confusing to the users.  I would expect it to go straight to your default printer software or to open a popup and initiate the default printer software without having to right click on the screen and select print.
How should this behave?  Is this an OSS issue or standard for this button?
Thank you in advance,
Doug

Everything I want seems to be in EHP 5.   We are just using the delivered iviews for Team Calendar that links with MSS and Leave Request.  (ESS > Service Specific > Working Time > Team Calendar)  There is a standard print dropdown option, but it appears to simply open another window.  This does not meet our needs because users don't intuitively know to right click and select print.
I will look at the note you listed.  Its just funny that SAP would have a print button that simply opens another window.  Seems pointless.  I do recognize that being on EPH 3 that we could be missing out on some good tools.
Thanks,
Doug

• Print button on WAD template

Hi,
Presently we are in BW 3.5 version with support pack 22. We enhanced the html code based on ' How to ... Web printing with MS Excel' document. We imported the transport file which contains package and ABAP Classes.
After click on the print button on Web report, it was giving the same result area in the same page instead of giving the excel open or save options.
How to debug the enhanced html code in the WAD template? How to check the ABAP class('ZCL_RSR_XLS_HELP_WINDOW_PRINT') which i used in the
code?
Or is there any way to print the result area of Web report?
Please help me.
Thanks in advance.

• Creating a print button to call a Report Query and pass filters

If i use the REPORT QUERY option in APEX 4 to create an statement that is the same one used in an interactive report, can I create a link or button to the REPORT QUERY and pass all the session and filter information from the interactive report to the report query?
This way I can have the interactive report screen where the user can do all sorts of modifications and such and then pass those to the REPORT QUERY so I can call that from a custom link or button.
You may ask "why does he need another print button?"
Answer: I am using a view that has some embedded HTML tags to format the output really nicely. The HTML download version created by the interactive reports works beautifully. The customer also wants a PDF version (meh) which does not render the HTML tags and actually echos them as part of the text. I found that I can create another view that uses the CHR function to create all the breaks and such I was doing with HTML and these do render properly in PDF. So, I figured just have 2 reports: 1 Interactive and 1 using a REPORT QUERY. I just want to call the REPORT QUERY version but use the Interactive Search form to set all the parameters.
Or, am I over thinking this and there is an easier method?
I made a previous post where I showed how I got the APEX printing to work and i hoped that helped someone out - fixing this issue would put the whole thing to rest.
Thanks

Is BI Publisher desktop (MS Word add-in) a possibility? This would allow you to use MS Word to create your output template (RTF) that would result in a properly formatted PDF. Of course, you'd have to right an updated version of the query without HTML embedded. Just thinking outside of the box.

• Print Button Derived From a Select List Is Not Working

Hello,
I followed the instructions "Creating a PDF Report from Derived Output Format" http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/apex/apex31nf/apex31rpt.htm#t2
Steps
In order to derive the output format, you need to create an item that contains the list of formats to select from. Perform the following steps:
1. Under Items, click the Create icon.
2. Click Select List.
3. Make sure Select List is selected for Select List Control Type and click Next.
4. Change the Name to P<#>OUTPUTLIST and click Next.
5. You need to specify the list of output types for the report and the bottom of the page. Select the Create or edit static List of Values
6. Enter the following values and click Apply.
Display Value Return Value
PDF PDF
Word RTF
Excel XLS
HTML HTM
XML XML
7. Select No for Display Null Option and Click Next.
8. Change the Label to Output Format and click Next.
9. Enter PDF for the Default and click Create Item.
10. Now that the list of output formats is created, you need to change the Output Format when the Print link is selected. Under Regions, select the Print link.
11. Under Printing, select Derive from Item for Output Format and select the item you just created P<#>OUTPUTLIST for Item and click Apply Changes.
12. Click Run Page.
13. When the report is displayed, select Excel from the list of Output Formats. Note: In Oracle Application Express 3.1, the XML format was added
14. At the bottom of the report, select the Print link.
15. A window appears asking you which program you want to open the Excel file with. Click OK (or Open depending on what browser you have) . Excel is open and the report is displayed. Close the Excel window.
16. You can also create a button to produce the report based on the output format rather than clicking the Print link at the bottom of the report. Click Edit Page.
17. Under Buttons, click the Create icon.
18. Accept the default and click Next
19. Select Create a button displayed among this region's items and click Next
20. Enter P<#>_Print for the Button Name, enter Print for the Label and Request and select HTML Button for Button Style. Then click Create Button
21. The region printing link contains the id of the region. Since you want to invoke the print from a button instead of the link you need to create a branch and specify the FLOW_XMLP_OUTPUT_R### parameter in the Request field for the Action so the application knows what to do when the Print button is pressed. Under Regions, select the Print link.
22. Ctrl-C the FLOW_XMLP_OUTPUT_R### section of the Print URL field. Since you are going to invoke the print from the button, you can remove the Print in the Label Link field and click Apply Changes.
23. Under Branches, select the Create icon.
24. Accept the default and click Next
25. Enter the current page for the Page and paste the FLOW_XMLP_OUTPUT_R### parameter that you copied into the Request field and click Next.
26. Select P<#>_PRINT for When Button Pressed and click Create Branch
27. Click Run Page
28. Select XML for the Output Format and click Print.
If I use the link at the bottom of the report region when I set the print options on the print tab of a report, it will print out in both pdf and rtf formats. I get an error with the Excel format. The print button isn't even working. When I select the button, nothing happens.
Any help is appreciated.

Hello Andy,
I ended up putting in a ticket with Metalink. It is a known bug it seems. This is what the rep said:
UPDATE
=======
These bugs are fixed in the next ApEx patch 3.1.2. Patch 3.1.2 is expected (tentatively) in 2 weeks at the
earliest.
The bug fixes for these bugs have been backported to 3.1.1 and the one-off patches (patch 7202883 & 7156139) can be downloaded from metalink. One-of
f patches do not undergo the normal full regression testing, as is done for the
full APEX 3.1.2 patch set.
Once 7202883 and 7156139 were applied, I was able to download in all formats.
