DSN connection across different environments

Hie Guys,
A database has 3 different servers for DEV, TEST & PROD. Now, while creating a DSN for the Universe, do you have to create a DSN for each environment (Dev, Test & Prod) ? How does this work? Could anyone please help me understand the concept? Thanks.

Hi
If you have three SQl servers (Dev,Test,Prod ) and three bo servers (Dev,Test,Prod )   you need to create three different DSN connections in Dev SQL.
IN THE DEV SERVER
1. Create DSN connection (Dev DSN Connection) in  the Dev SQL to connect Dev SQL to BO Dev and then develop the universe.
2. Create another DSN connection (Test DSN Connection)  in the Dev SQL to connect Test SQL to Test BO Dev
3. Create another DSN connection (Prod DSN Connection)  in the Dev SQL to connect Prod SQL to Prod BO Dev
Then while promoting to Test environment, you need to send universe along with connection, but in the connection you need to change the Dev SQL connection to Test SQL connection ((Test DSN Connection)  (Select the connection -> Click on change connection)
Then while promoting to Prod environment, you need to send universe along with connection, but in the connection you need to change  to Prod SQL connection (Prod DSN Connection)
And once the universe and connection are promoted successfully come back to Dev and change the connection to Dev SQL (Dev DSN Connection)

  • Transporting SAP connectivity across different environments.

    Hi all,
I am calling a RFC from my Java Develoment component using SAP connectivity so that proxy classess for my ABAP function module are generated.
And this RFC call is successful in the development environment.
Now when i move it from "development" to "quality" to "production" environments, should i have to re-establish the connection  to the R/3 server of the respective environment before moving it to that particular environment, so that new classes will get generated again.
Or is there any other method by which i can transport the component without any change in my code.
Your response will be highly appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • Best practice to maintain code across different environments

    Hi All,
We have a portal application and we use
    JDEV version: 11.1.1.6
    fusion middleware control 11.1.1.6
In our application we have  created many portlets by using iframe inside our jspx files and few are in navigation file as well and the URL's corresponding to these portlets are different
across the environments (dev, test and prod). we are using subversion to maintain our code .
problem we are having is: Apart from changing environment details while deploying to Test and prod, we also have to change the portlet URL' s from dev portlet URL's to corresponding env manually.
so is there any best practice to avoid this cumbersome task? can we achieve this by creating deployment profile?
    Thanks
    Kotresh

    Hi.
Put a sample of the two different URLs. Anyway you can use EL Expression to get current host instead of hardcoded. In addition, you can think in using a common DNS mapped in hosts file for all environments.

  • Time Machine: Backup folder changing size when connected to different computers

Can someone please help me wrap my head around why the size of my Time Machine backup folder changes when connected to different computers? I tried to be as thorough as possible.  Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.
I made a backup of my one laptop (MacBook Pro running 10.6.8) before installing Mavericks.  The backup folder size is 258.56 GB and it is on a 1TB WD external.  There are no other computers backed up in this folder.
Last night, I tried to copy the backup folder to another 1TB WD external and ran into the “you can’t do that” message.  After some researching, I came across articles explaining how Time Machine handles HDs and, in order for me to copy my backup folder, the drive I want to copy the folder to needs to have the “Ignore ownership on this volume” deselected.
Okay, so here is my situation: I have the “Ignore ownership on this volume” deselected and journaling is correct on the drive I want to copy the backup folder to.  So I can continue working on my laptop, I want to use a different computer to copy the backup folder from one HD to the other.  The problem I’m having is each computer I own is showing me a different backup folder size O.o.
    (1) The computer I want to use – a Power Mac G5 Quad running 10.4.11 (non intel) – is showing a backup folder size of 592.7 MB, but the HD shows there is 258 GB being used.  When I drag copy, I only get a 592.7 MB backup folder.  For some reason, the backup folder is the only folder acting this way. I compared other folders from the same and different externals and all the sizes match up perfectly no matter the computer they were connected to. How is this possible?
    (2) My second option - Mac Pro (early 2009) running 10.9.4 – is showing a 256.15 GB backup folder size.  Very close, but not 258.56 GB.
    (3) My last option is to use the computer I’m trying to stay away from, the MacBook Pro running 10.6.8.  This is the computer I backed up and is showing me the correct folder size = 258.56GB.  As I mentioned, I'd like to work on my laptop while copying the backup folder using one of my other computers.
I am able to drag and drop from each computer, but the folder size depends on the computer I’m using.  I don’t understand why I can't do a simple drag and drop of a 258 GB folder.
    Many thanks!!

The directory files that you are seeing are not real. They are links to the actual backup files that are stored in a hidden directory on the drive. If you were to look at the same drive on a pc, you would see the folders and you would a list files that are in the folders but the files would all be 0 byte files and Windows will tell you the file is empty because there is nothing there but a link which Windows does not understand.
So the point is you can't just copy the backupd files. The best solution that I know of (and maybe someone else will chime in) for copying them is to mirror the drive with something like Carbon Copy or some other program.

  • Automatically create ODBC DSN connection with special port and password. Add-OdbcDsn cmdlet

    Hi,
I first posted a question in the SQL forum but I'm posting it here instead because its a Powershell question.
In a non-persitent VDI enviroment we are trying to automatically create a ODBC DSN connection to a SQL server.
We are using Windows 8.1 so we also have Powershell 4 together with the add-odbcdsn cmdlet.
But when trying to add set -SetPropertyValue for network port different than default and a password we get an error.
    here is the command:
Add-OdbcDsn -Name test -DriverName "SQL Server" -DsnType User -SetPropertyValue @("PWD=test", "SERVER=10.0.0.1")
and here is the error message:

    Hi Primeid,
Agree with Jrv, we cannot store  UID and PWD in an ODBC datasource, For example, you can create a DSN using the user interface but if you look at the DSN stored in the registry the UID and PWD are not stored.
ODBC it is always required when you connect using a DSN that the caller supply UID and PWD if they want to use standard login during connection time.

  • Material for a single project spread across different locations

    Dear Friends
my client is executinig trun key projects. One single project may be spread across different geographical locations. Say Project name is "PRJ001".
PRJ001 will be executed in Bombay, Hyderabad, Chennai.
There are 2 scenarios for procuring materail:
    1. Since my these places are quite far away, I might procure material from a venodr near to these locations.
    2. I might give PO to one single vendor to dispatch material to these different locations for project execution.
In the both the cases, how to handle material?
What will be best option? Should I create a storage location (my client stores material @ site as these projects run for years)?
I'm procurial material as Project Stock (Q).
Say Bomaby location needs 500 no. of material, Hyderabad location needs 700 no. of material, Chennai location needs 300 no. of material.
Now how do I ensure that the right material with right quantity is reaching respective project site?
In some cases, project runs in remote location. Where there won't be any connectivity/ access to system. In such cases, if the site engineer enters GR/ IR & activity confirmation in excel sheet & later on sends an e-mail with this excel sheet to the office. How can we upload it to the system so that it updates the required fields in the system?
    Please give your suggestions.
    I appreciate your support/suggestion .
    Thanks

    Hi Amaresh,
I think your Option no. 01 holds good for your requirement. You can define the corresponding Project sites in Chennai, Mumbai and other places as Storage locations. Better define Seperate storage locations for different site locations.
I think having a delivery schedule with the specific requirement quantities and the storage location should resolve your issue of handling different quantities for the same material. This you can discuss & sort it out with your MM consultant.
    Hope this gives some idea.

  • Reuse Dimdate across different database for different data models

    Hi,
I am designing a new data model for a data mart. I need to add dimdate dimension in this data model. I noticed that dimdate already exists in another database and being used by another
data model. Is it possible to re-use the existing dimdate table for my new data model? If so, what about the foreign key constraints? Normally we link the date columns from fact table to the dimdate keys. How would we achieve that in case we are using the
    same table across different databases?
Any opinion on this will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Cheers!!

You can create a copy of dimdate table to your new data warehouse.
If both data marts were in a single data warehouse, then you don't required to copy. but as these are in two different databases then you just copy that.
regarding FK relationship. you can connect any fact table to you date dimension. even if you want to use more than one instance of your date dimension, it would be simply adding multiple FK columns in your fact table (role playing dimension).
For date dimension be sure that your date dimension covers most of the attributes required. here is an example of date dimension:

  • Handling deployment dependency across different solution files

I have multiple BizTalk solution files containing multiple projects. These solution files have deployment
dependency, i.e. before deploying one solution i need to deployed the solution on which it is dependent first.
How can i handle this dependency across different solution files?
    Varun

Why don't you look deeper into writing a BTTask batch file to handle your deployments in a more automated fashion?
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa559686.aspx
That way you have complete control over how your BizTalk Applications are deployed and configured, and in the required order. Within Visual Studio, you will be limited to only working with the currently opened solution.
Another more robust option would be to investigate the BizTalk Deployment Framework.
    http://biztalkdeployment.codeplex.com/
Both of these options have the additional benefit of being portable from one environment to another. You can apply the same scripts, with different bindings, to your QA and even Production environments. It's worth the up-front effort in complex scenarios.

  • How do I fix colour picker to work across different colour-managed monitors?

    Hey everyone!
I'm assuming this problem I'm having stems from having colour-calibrated monitors, but let me know if I'm wrong!
To preface, this is the setup I have:
    Windows 7
3 monitors as follows, all have individual colour profiles calibrated using the Spyder 3
    Cintiq 12WX
    Dell U2410
    Dell 2409WFP
Photoshop CS6 - Proofed with Monitor RGB, and tested with colour-managed and non-colour-managed documents
I usually do most of my work on the Cintiq 12WX, but pull the photoshop window to my main monitor to do large previews and some corrections. I noticed that the colour picker wouldn't pick colours consistently depending on the monitor the Photoshop window is on.
    Here are some video examples:
This is how the colour picker works on my Dell U2410: http://screencast.com/t/lVevxk5Ihk
This is how it works on my Cintiq 12WX: http://screencast.com/t/tdREx4Xyhw9
    Main Question
I know the Cintiq's video capture makes the picture look more saturated than the Dell's, but it actually looks fine physically, which is okay. But notice how the Cintiq's colour picker doesn't pick a matching colour. It was actually happening the opposite way for a while (Dell was off, Cintiq was fine), but it magically swapped while I was trying to figure out what was going on. Anyone know what's going on, and how I might fix it?
    Thanks for *any* help!
    Semi-related Question regarding Colour Management
Colour management has always been the elephant-in-the-room for me when I first tried to calibrate my monitors with a Spyder colourimeter years ago. My monitors looked great, but Photoshop's colours became unpredictable and I decided to abandon the idea of calibrating my monitors for years until recently. I decided to give it another chance and follow some tutorials and articles in an attempt to keep my colours consistent across Photoshop and web browsers, at least. I've been proofing against monitor colour  and exporting for web without an attached profile to keep pictures looking good on web browsers. However, pictures exported as such will look horrible when uploaded to Facebook. Uploading pictures with an attached colour profile makes it look good on Facebook. This has forced me to export 2 versions of a picture, one with an attached colour profile and one without, each time I want to share it across different platform. Is there no way to fix this issue?
Pictures viewed in Windows Photo Viewer are also off-colour, but I think that's because it's not colour managed... but that's a lesser concern.

I think I've figured out the colour management stuff in the secondary question, but the weird eyedropper issue is still happening. Could just be a quirk from working on things across multiple monitors, but I'm hoping someone might know if this is a bug/artifact.
Going to lay out what I inferred from my experiments regarding colour management in case other noobs like me run into the same frustrations as I did. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong - the following are all based on observation.
    General Explanation
A major source of my problems stem from my erroneous assumption that all browsers will use sRGB when rendering images. Apparently, most popular browsers today are colour-managed, and will use an image's embedded colour profile if it exists, and the monitor's colour profile if it doesn't. This was all well and good before I calibrated my monitors, because the profile attached to them by default were either sRGB or a monitor default that's close to it. While you can never guarantee consistency on other people's monitors, you can catch most cases by embedding a colour profile - even if it is sRGB. This forces colour-managed browsers to use sRGB to render your image, while non-colour-managed browsers will simply default to sRGB. sRGB seems to be the profile used by Windows Photo Viewer too, so images saved in other wider gamut colour spaces will look relatively drab when viewed in WPV versus a colour-managed browser.
Another key to figuring all this out was understanding how Profile Assignment and Conversion work, and the somewhat-related soft-proofing feature. Under Edit, you are given the option to either assign a colour profile to the image, or convert the image to another colour profile. Converting an image to a colour profile will replace the colour profile and perform colour compensations so that the image will look as physically close to the original as possible. Assigning a profile only replaces the colour profile but performs no compensations. The latter is simulated when soft-proofing (View > Proof Colors or ctrl/cmd-Y). I had followed bad advice and made the mistake of setting up my proofing to Monitor Color because this made images edited in Photoshop look identical when the same image is viewed in the browser, which was rendering my images with the Monitor's colour profile, which in turn stemmed from yet another bad advice I got against embedding profiles .  This should formally answer Lundberg's bewilderment over my mention of soft-proofing against Monitor Colour.
Conclusion and Typical Workflow (aka TL;DR)
To begin, these are the settings I use:
Color Settings: I leave it default at North American General Purpose 2, but probably switch from sRGB to AdobeRGB or  ProPhoto RGB so I can play in a wider gamut.
Proof Setup: I don't really care about this anymore because I do not soft-proof (ctrl/cmd-Y) in this new workflow.
Let's assume that I have a bunch of photographs I want to post online. RAWs usually come down in the AdobeRGB colour space - a nice, wide gamut that I'll keep while editing. Once I've made my edits, I save the source PSD to prep for export for web.
To export to web, I first Convert to the sRGB profile by going to Edit > Convert to Profile. I select sRGB as the destination space, and change the Intent to either Perceptual or Relative Colorimetric, depending on what looks best to me. This will convert the image to the sRGB colour space while trying to keep the colours as close to the original as possible, although some shift may occur to compensate for the narrower gamut. Next, go to Save for Web. The settings you'll use:
    Embed Color Profile CHECKED
Convert to sRGB UNCHECKED (really doesn't matter since you're already in the sRGB colour space)
and Preview set to Internet Standard RGB (this is of no consequence - but it will give a preview of what the image will look like in the sRGB space)
That's it! While there might be a slight shift in colour when you converted from AdobeRGB to sRGB, everything from then on should stay consistent from Photoshop to the browser
Edit: Of course, if you'd like people to view your photos in glorious wide gamut in their colour-managed browsers, you can skip the conversion to sRGB and keep them in AdobeRGB. When Saving for Web, simply remember to Embed the Color Profile, DO NOT convert to sRGB, and set Preview to "Use Document Profile" to see what the image would look like when drawn with the embedded color profile

My computer decided to create an error that shot a high pitched garble throughout my speaker system. Needless to say thankfully it seems it only ruined one speaker the center channel.
The center channel only produces sound from its midrange woofer now. If there is a fix for that i'd love to hear it.

    myConnectionInfo.ServerName = "my_dsn_file"
For your information this report has been made with CR 9 and converted to CR 2008
In CR 9 everything worked fine.
    Any idea ?
    Thanks

This Forum edito  is buggy ? I had to split my answer otherwise the format is broken
Also you wrote: "User used to create connection (throught DSN) is a generic user, not the user associated with the schema containing the view accessed by the report"
It's odd that this works in CR, CR repsects DB security so if it's not in a schema that user should not have access to anything in Oracle, I'm surprised it works at all. Possibly this is a bug in CR 8.5 and 9 that finally got fixed.
Work arounds, what is the reason you can't add that user account to a schema? Or use an account that has access?
I problably don't use the correct words (I'me not Oracle DBA + translation approximation).
Of course our user "application_user" has right on all the schema of the database, what I want to say it's when you connect to Oracle with a user "application_user" you're connected in the schema corresponding to these user (so "application_user" schema).
And if you want to make request on a table / view from another schema you need to prefix table/view with the corresponding schema (Sale in my previous fictive example)
So in my case CR try to access "CommercialDocument" view in "application_user" schema but this view is not in  this schema, it is in "Sales" schema.
The correct way to access it is Sales.CommercialDocument, that what CR throught .net don't do, but do when run directly in CR developers.
Here is real example (fench name inside), those SQL request have been monitoring througt SQL monitor tools of TOAD :

  • DSN connection not available in connection manager

Hi -- I am having problems connecting to an ODBC data source with SSIS.
I am trying to connect to a mysql database.  The connection is set up in "Administrative Tools" as a System DSN, and I can sucessfully connect using "Test" from there.
But the connection is not shown as available in SSIS.
In Connection Manager, I create a new ADO.NET connection, choose New, ODBC data provider, but my system DSN connection is not in the dropdown (no ODBC connections are), and if I try to specify it with a connection string
    Dsn=ConnectionName;
    I get:
Test connection failed because of an error initalizing provider.  Error [IM002] [Microsoft] [ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.
I have tried recreating it, creating a new data source with a new name, but none of the Dsn's come are seen by SSIS.
To make it more frustrating, it was working just days ago and I don't know what changed...
    Any help appreciated,
    Mike

The BIDS development environment is 32 bit. So it looks for the 32 bit providers at design time. However, when the package is run in BIDS, it will use the 64-bit providers, as long as the Use64BitRuntime property of the project is set to TRUE.
Outside of BIDS, which set of providers is used depends on which version of DTEXEC you run. There is a 32-bit version and 64-bit version - each will load the matching provider. Something else to be aware of - not all providers have 32- and 64-bit versions. The Jet providers (used for Excel and Access) only have 32-bit versions, for example.

  • FR Studio - Is there a workaround for the issue with referencing data from a grid with a different DB connection and different # of dimensions?

    Hi,
I am trying to reference a column in a different grid with a different database connection. I did some research in the forums, and it seems like this is a known issue with FR Studio. The issue is that if the 2 different database connections have different # of dimensions, then the reference will throw an error.
For example, what I'm trying to do is below:
In grid2.column[A], I have the following formula:
    grid1.column[A]
    The result is an error.
The ultimate goal is to have a basic variance formula in the grid between grid1 and grid2, which have different database connections with a different # of dimensions. Is there a workaround at all to this bug? The example of the basic formula is below:
    grid1.column[A] - grid2.column[A]
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Tiffany

Thanks for the detailed response Mike.
The issue with trying it in Grid1 vs Grid2 is that Grid1's DB connection has more dimensions than Grid2's DB connection. I can't change the DB connection to a database with more dimensions because you have to be able to map all dimensions from the existing DB connection  (Grid1) to the new DB connection (Grid2). This isn't possible, so instead I have to map Grid2 (less dimensions) to Grid1 (more dimensions). It just ignores the extra dimensions from Grid1. Does that make sense?
Thanks again for your responses. It's very much appreciated.
