Dsound.dll

Question

Hi, i was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and is any the wiser on solving it. When attempting to open iTunes an error message appears;
"This application has failed to start because DSOUND.dll was not found. Re-installing may fix the problem"
as expected re-installing solves nothing, i've tried re-installing quicktime, quicktime and itunes together and dsound.dll with no luck as of yet, however i can open itunes by using itunes to open the newly installed dsound.dll. i Might be wrong but i think dsound.dll is part of Directx9? and so the problem could lie there but i've also re-installed that with no such luck.
Also get an error when attempting to open quicktime - "quicktime failed to initialize. Error # -2093 please make sure QuickTime is properly installed on this computer" which it is.
Any ideas? :/

Hmmmm.
Dsound.dll is part of your DirectX. On the other hand, iTunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback, and your #2093 is consistent with a broken QuickTime. So, plausibly, the "missing" DSound.dll message might be being produced by a broken QuickTime.
So let's try swapping out your existing QuickTime one more time, taking a few additional precautions this time.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
3. Open Program Files.
4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (if, in "My Computer" "Tools > Folder Options > View", you've got "Hide filename extensions for known file types" selected, the files may appear for you as QuickTime and QuickTimeVR.)
7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC. Try launching QuickTime. Does it launch properly (without the #2093) this time? If so, do you still get the DSound.dll message when launching iTunes?
