DTD conversion

Hi
I've done an XML encoding, but need to convert it into DTD format.What do mean by DTD format? Can anyone give me sample program for XML conversion in DTD format?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
A DTD is associated with a particular document via a Document Type Declaration, which is a bit of markup that appears near the start of the associated document. The declaration establishes that the document is an instance of the type defined by the referenced DTD.
The declarations in a DTD are divided into an internal subset and an external subset. The declarations in the internal subset are embedded in the Document Type Declaration in the document itself. The declarations in the external subset are located in a separate text file. The external subset may be referenced via a public identifier and/or a system identifier. Programs for reading documents may not be required to read the external subset.
[edit]
Examples
Here is an example of a Document Type Declaration containing both public and system identifiers:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
Here is an example of a Document Type Declaration that encapsulates an internal subset consisting of a single entity declaration:
<!DOCTYPE foo [ <!ENTITY greeting "hello"> ]>
All HTML 4.01 documents are expected to conform to one of three SGML DTDs. The public identifiers of these DTDs are constant and are as follows:
-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN
-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN
-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN
The system identifiers of these DTDs, if present in the Document Type Declaration, will be URI references. System identifiers can vary, but are expected to point to a specific set of declarations in a resolvable location. SGML allows for public identifiers to be mapped to system identifiers in catalogs that are optionally made available to the URI resolvers used by document parsing software.
Document Type Definition (DTD), defined slightly differently within the XML and SGML specifications, is one of several SGML and XML schema languages, and is also the term used to describe a document or portion thereof that is authored in the DTD language. A DTD is primarily used for the expression of a schema via a set of declarations that conform to a particular markup syntax and that describe a class, or type, of SGML or XML documents, in terms of constraints on the structure of those documents. A DTD may also declare constructs that are not always required to establish document structure, but that may affect the interpretation of some documents.

  • CXML DTD conversion

    Hi,
    I am trying to convert the cXML.dtd to cXML.xsd by using altova and have noticed that three xsd files are generated. It is happening for any .dtd file downloaded form cXML.org site.
    I can import all the three xsd into XI (under ED) and able to see the Message Names. But when i import them in MM, I notice only half message. for example - GetPendingRequest message type and the GetPendingRequest.xml file which comes with the download. both are different.
    The question i am facing are -
       why is that altova converting single .dtd to 3 *.xsd. ?
       Do we have to use all the three xsd's in our design?
       do we have to refer these xsd to each other in ED?
       in the mapping, do we have to take any extra precautions? or it is same as normal mapping?
      I am proposing a solution to the client that, we will deliver a cxml file (*.cxml) by using FTP adapter without any conversion.   Meaning, xml output of the mapping program will be deivered. is this good solution? will the customer will be able to read the file?
      kindly help me.
    Regards
    Azias

    Hello,
    But when i import them in MM, I notice only half message. for example - GetPendingRequest message type and the GetPendingRequest.xml file which comes with the download. both are different.
    You need to reference the xsds to each other in external definition.
    Do we have to use all the three xsd's in our design?
    Yes
    do we have to refer these xsd to each other in ED?
    Yes, you can refer xsds to one another by:
    1.) Opening the main xsd, then go to external references tab
    2.) Under the external references tab, there are two columns there, one is for the source and one is for the name. If there is an entry for source, click its corresponding name (even if it is blank).
    3.) Once the source is already highlighted by using step2, press ctrl+c (copy)
    4.) Import/open the xsd you want to be referenced. You will see a source field there, and the press ctrl+v (paste). Save and activate
    in the mapping, do we have to take any extra precautions? or it is same as normal mapping?
    Message mapping will be the same, but what is important is what message structure is required by business. You might as well consult with them as to what the final output is required.
    Hope this helps,

  • EDD to DTD conversion

    I am using FM 8 on Windows XP Pro and just working through the Getting started with structure example. It's a breeze until I get to the "Building the structured application" topic. Then, whenever I try to save the EDD as a DTD, I get these XML parsing errors:
    Invalid document structure
    The main XML document cannot be empty
    Syntax error
    Parsing aborted
    I also tried reading in some of the many EDD files loaded with the application and saving them as DTD, but they have parsing errors as well. Does anyone have any ideas what is going wrong here?
    Cheers,
    John

    Hi,<br /><br />All I was doing was religiously following the example in FM 8 help, topics under Processing XML > Migration from unstructured FrameMaker > Getting started with structure. This involves building a simple EDD and testing it -works fine. Adding formatting - works fine. The DTD creation does not mention any rules file. These are the instructions:<br /><br />First, you need to create a document type definition (DTD) that matches the EDD.<br /><br />To create a DTD:<br /><br />1. Open the proposal_edd.fm file in structured FrameMaker.<br /><br />2. Select StructureTools > Save As DTD. Specify the file name (proposal.dtd) and where you want to save the file, and then click Save.<br /><br />3. In the Use Structured Application dialog box, leave the default selection, <No Application>, and click Continue.<br /><br />4. In the Select Type dialog box, select XML and then click OK. The DTD file is written out to the location you specified.<br /><br />Step 4 is where it falls over and gives the error. From what you say, it seems I need a rules file, but there is no help for this in FM. Can you point me some resource?<br /><br />The FM tutorial implies that using no application (and thus no rules) should generate a DTD file from the EDD. I've looked at the structure of EDD and DTD files and can see the relationship, but obviously to have an automated way to generate the DTD would be great!

  • Pls help...XML to DTD convert?

    Hi, I have to generate DTD from XML file. I can do that manually, but may be some one already solved this problem? Possible that they are an existing converters (like DOM or SAX for XML-> data process) that can do the work? Thank you, Boris.

  • XSD VALIDATION IN ABAP PROGRAM

    Hi,
    I have a requirement where in a report i am picking xml file from the presentation server (desktop) and then i am parsing the xml file using FM "SMUM_XML_PARSE" (first i use FM SCMS_BINARY_TO_XSTRING and then SMUM_XML_PARSE). after using the function SMUM_XML_PARSE i get the xml data in my internal table and then my report uses that data for some processing. This all is working fine .
    My issue is that how do i do a XSD VALIDATION for the xml file that i am reading . I would have liked to do a xsd validation after i import the xml file and throw error if the xml file is not as per its xsd.As i am not using any middleware technology like XI/ WTX which have XSD validation functionality i am not sure how to achieve this in abap program.

    Hi,
    I think you're right, iXML can only validate DTD via its if_ixml_parser->set_validating method (you can find this information in SAP SDN article "ABAP XML Mapping", as of release 6.10, I couldn't find any other reference saying that xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation is supported since then).
    By looking at SDN, I saw an external link about XSD to DTD conversion via XSLT (http://crism.maden.org/consulting/pub/xsl/xsd2dtd.xsl), but I don't have any idea if it works. On another thread, people used OS command to do XML/XSD validation, but didn't describe what they ran exactly (anyway, that means using any external tool).

  • How can I convert IDoc in XML format w/DTD into a string?

    I want to send by e-mail outbound IDoc in XML format with its document type definition (DTD).
    I want to be able to get the same output result into a string than the XML file IDoc port type with DTD activated.  I have created a FM (based on SAP "OWN_FUNCTION") assigned to an IDoc port of type ABAP-PI that executes the following processing steps:
    1-Extract outbound IDoc information to get the sender & recipient mail addresses (EDP13 / EDIPHONE tables).
    2-Convert & Transform IDoc data into XML string using FM IDX_IDOC_TO_XML.
    3-Prepare and send e-mail with XML attachement using FM SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1.
    I cand generate the e-mail with the XML file attachement but FM IDX_IDOC_TO_XML does not convert the IDoc with proper formating and DTD.
    What should I use to accomplish the IDoc conversion to XML w/DTD into a string?
    Should I use XSLT tools ?
    How does that work?
    Thank you

    Use decimal string to number
    Specifically, you can define a constant with a different datatype on the input on the lower left if you need a different datatype (e.g. U8, I64, DBL, etc) Are all your values integers or do you also need to scan fractional numbers? In this case, you should use "fract/exp string to number" instead.

  • Converting XML file to DTD or XSD file

    Hi everyone,
    We're currently doing an IDOC to File. The file should be in XML format. Right now, we have a sample XML file. We need to convert the file to DTD or XSD and then upload this in XI to be able to get it structure. We've tried different conversion tools to do this, however, the converted DTD/XSD file still has errors when we load it to XI. What we're thinking is to create a data type to achieve this. These are some of the fields in the file.
    <messageHeader creationDate>
    <catellae:gTTSDataDelivery creationDate="X" (...)>
    */<catellae:(…)>/<txnId>
    */<catellae:(…)>/<items>/<item>/<quantity>
    */<catellae:(…)>/<items>/<item>/<unitOfMea>
    */<catellae:(…)>/<items>/<item>/<prodDesc>/<matType>
    */<catellae:(…)>/<shipToAddress>/<nameAndAddress>/<city>
    */<catellae:(…)>/<shipToAddress>/<contactInformation>/<communicationChannel (…)
    It seems that there are more than 3 nodes. And in XI, only three nodes are allowed. Could you tell us how should we create the data type for this? Thanks in advance!

  • Character conversion error

    Hi all,
    We are getting the following error when trying to parse an xml string resource - Character conversion error: "Illegal ASCII character, 0xc2" (line number may
    be too low)-. We have not been able to get around this. We have tried creating the InputSource two different ways:
    reader = new StringReader(stringSource);
    src = new InputSource( reader );
    and
    src = new InputSource(new InputStreamReader(new ByteArrayInputStream(stringSource.getBytes())));
    The problem does appear to go away if we treat the DTD we are validating against as a file. If we set it has a uri, we get the above problem.
    Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Greg

    Hi,
    2 possible solutions:
    1) try using the xerces parser instead of sun's parser
    2) look at the posting at the following url and see wether the posted solution solves your problem: http://forums.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=34&thread=67558
    Hope this helps,

  • "character conversion error" while parsing xml files

    Hello,
    I'm trying to parse MusicXML (Recordare) files, but I'm getting an exception.
    I'm using the SAX parser (javax.xml.parsers.SAXParser).
    Here is the code I use to instantiate it:
    final javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory saxParserFactory = javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory.newInstance();
    final javax.xml.parsers.SAXParser saxParser = saxParserFactory.newSAXParser();
    final org.xml.sax.XMLReader parser = saxParser.getXMLReader();
    I'm using my own handler, but I get the same exception even if I use org.xml.sax.helpers.DefaultHandler.
    The error I get is:
    Character conversion error: "Illegal ASCII character, 0xc2" (line number may be too low).
    The first few lines of my xml files look like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
    <!DOCTYPE score-partwise
    PUBLIC "-//Recordare//DTD MusicXML 0.6 Partwise//EN"
    "http://www.musicxml.org/dtds/partwise.dtd">
    <score-partwise>
    [...etc...]
    If I delete the <!DOCTYPE ...> line, then I don't get the exception anymore. But the MusicXML files I get (from some other program) always contain this line, and it would be quite some work to delete them from every file manually.
    So does anyone know if there is a way to avoid deleting that line in every file, while still being able to parse the xml files without exceptions?
    Or maybe does anyone know what the exact cause of the exception is? (because I don't know what exactly causes it)
    Thank you in advance.
    Greetz,
    Jipo

    So does anyone know if there is a way to avoid
    deleting that line in every file, while still being
    able to parse the xml files without exceptions?ok this is side-stepping the real problem but I've used this code to filterout DTD references for other reasons   public static InputStream filterOutDTDRef(InputStream in) throws IOException {
          BufferedReader iniReader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(in));
          StringBuffer newXML = new StringBuffer();
          for(String line = iniReader.readLine(); line!=null; line = iniReader.readLine())
             newXML.append(line+"\n");
          in.close();
          int s = newXML.indexOf("<!DOCTYPE ");
          if(s!=-1)
             newXML.replace(s,newXML.indexOf(">",s)+1,"");
          return new ByteArrayInputStream(newXML.toString().getBytes());
       }and it actually speeds up the parsing phase too (since the DTD ref.s were on the web and the XML standard mandates that there is a fetch for each xml file parsed..)
    you can feed the above into the InputSource constructor that takes an InputStream argument.
    Now for the real problem... 0xc2 is "LATIN CAPITAL LETTER A WITH CIRCUMFLEX" according to a unicode chart - which is not an ASCII character (as the error message correctly reports). I'm not sure why the file is being parsed as ASCII though? You could try parsing in a FileReader to the inputsource and hope it picks up the default character encoding of your system, and that that character encoding matches the file. Or you could try passing in a FileReader constructed with a explicit character encoding (eg "UTF8") and see if that does the trick?

  • Need help with XML Conversion

    I have a very large unstructured document that I need to convert to XML. This document once had a structure applied to it but somehow this structure was deleted (not by me). Since the structure was deleted, a fair amount of content has been added to the file.
    Ive been reading through PDF help files and trying to figure out how to solve this problem. I am very new to this so any help or input would really be great.
    So far thoughts on converting to XML are:
    1) Get structure back working in the original file. I do not know if there is a way to transfer the structure Pre-Loss to the new file. I have created a conversion table already that I can use. I have ran the CT and created what seems to be a structured document, but I think I may be missing further steps.
    2) Export the element definitions to an EDD
    3) Convert the EDD to a DTD
    4) Create a template file (not sure how to do this?)
    Finally export to XML. Before I start on this some feedback would be very welcomed. Sorry I am very inexperienced with all of this.

    Hello Frank,
    with the conversion there is a problem concering the graphics/ xrefs.
    after you have created the conversion table and structured your document you now can
    save the document as xml file.
    In the output you then will still have all graphics that are in the document, but the xrefs are missing.
    convert the document via StructureTools > Utilities > Convert Documents to Structured Format.
    In the output you then will have all the xrefs, but the graphics are missing.
    However, it's possible that I'm not up-to-date her as I haven't tried this since quite some time now.
    Point 2 and 3 from your list:
    Normally it's the other way around: You have a DTD and import that as a new EDD file in FrameMaker.
    Also I don't think that there really is a possiblity to export any element definitions from FrameMaker. But I'm happy, if you are able to disabuse me here.
    Template file:
    Any FM file. It just contains the page layout and the character formats etc.
    What you need to do is to add a Structured Application containing all the information on where to find the Template, EDD, DTD and also the read and write rules.
    With FrameMaker there are several Structured Applications delivered, e.g. DITA.
    If you do not have enough experience to create a new structured application without any model, it's best to copy and modify one of these.

    Anna

  • SelectOneMenu inside h:dataTable gives conversion error

    Hi guys,
    I'm enduring quite alot of misery attempting to put selectOneMenu UI components in my h:dataTable. Due to the 30000 character restriction, I can only submit my view and backing bean and DTO and the converter (even though the total characters of my files is only 26,583? [cat * | wc -c]). Perhaps you can figure out a way I can send me all my files and you'll be able to test it much easier.
    The jist of the problem is that I get a conversion error between the selectOneMenu and the backing DTO of the <h:dataTable>. After I define a converter I get a ClassCastException.
    My BIGGEST question is "Why do I even need a converter?", the selectItem(s)/options are hardcoded label/value Strings and so is the the property of the dataTable row's backing DTO!!!

  • Can a DTD map custom styles to standard HTML tags?

    Hi,
    Every week the publishing house I work for has to manually copy the entire content of a weekly magazine on an article-by-article basis into an online database, the web version of the magazine. This means copying the styled InDesign content and inserting it into the database as plain text, re-finding all those italics (and any other styling) and putting it all back manually.
    I already know that I can create tags with all the basic HTML styles needed in the 'Tags' palette in InDesign, and then export that.
    The trouble is that when I re-import the XML file, I have to laboriously map the custom house-styles (there are many of them and they're boiler-plate, i.e. consistent, across all the magazine's InDesign styles) to the imported HTML styles.
    So here's my question:
    Am I wrong to believe that it's possible to create a DTD that would import not only the HTML tags but their relationship to the existing, custom-named InDesign tags that are common to all the magazine's documents?
    As an InDesign wish-feature, what's missing from the 'Tags' corner-menu is 'Export DTD' - if that was available, I could map the whole relationship between Indesign Styles/HTML styles just one time and later import the DTD on other articles; which would tell the Structure View how to convert our custom house-styles (both Paragraph Styles and Character Styles) into HTML tags and cut this time-consuming task in half.
    Thanks!
    EDIT: I perhaps should have mentioned that obviously the final stage after this 'dream conversion' is to export the XML from the Structure View. Then I can just open the saved XML file and paste it into the CMS with formatting intact.
    Added extra explanation of the workflow.

    Googling XSLT and InDesign, it seems that such a stylesheet, if I were to create it, possibly couldn't handle spaces in the original InDesign style-names..? If anyone knows that for a fact, I'd be glad to be aware of it before starting down a long path to a roadblock.
    That's a good question. Let's find out together, shall we. I just created a text frame with Lorem Ipsum text, and created "a style" (with space) and "bstyle" (without). Now ... Map Style to Tag doesn't work, presumably because the tags don't exist and I assumed this would *create* them. And if you create one, ID complains "tags cannot contain tabs or spaces". (So can you have a Tab in your paragraph style name then? Gosh.)
    ... Forcing in a Non-breaking Space (#160) also doesn't work, this time ID simply says "A tag name cannot contain the character ' '."
    I think that's one you have to do manually.
    geekbelief wrote:
    I'm guessing that if I wanted to change the InDesign style 'Subheader' into 'h2', that snippet of the XSLT would be like this...?
    <xsl:template match="Subheader"><h2><xsl:apply-templates /></h2></xsl:template>
    Yeah, that's the correct syntax. But you cannot use an XSLT for mapping InDesign styles to tags. The process as I described works when importing your XML into InDesign, and changes the tags in the XML file to match InDesign styles. That's the other way around.
    I don't expect anyone to write this for me, but any hints or links to tutes that I haven't yet found would be appreciated!
    For a simple one-to-one translation of tag names, you can use this all the way. You only need any other XSL command if you want to do more than simple translation, such as filtering, moving, combining, or separating tags or their contents.
    There are lots of good tutes on the 'web for XSLT, although it seems interest has diminished lately. Half a decade ago XSLT was "hot"; nowadays the iPad is. Is there any news on improvements for ID's native XSLT support in CS6? I dare bet there are none at all -- it's already been deemed "yesterday's technology" by Adobe's Dev Team, just as Flash was discarded per CS5.5. I'm sure next year DPS will follow; and the year after that EPubs will be gone for good as well, replaced by holograms, transmitted live from your local library.
