Duplicate User Blog Entries

When I post a user blog two identical entries end up on the users blog page. If I try to delete one of them, both are deleted.

I will try to clarify my question a bit further after spending more time with it. My first thought of trouble shooting was to see how the bugs from the previous update to 10.5.3 might have affected the recent update to 10.5.4. After the 10.5.3 update I was left with a corrupt Open Directory which meant that I could not access the wiki page or user blogs. Once I recreated the OD I made a new wiki page and new user blogs. Things seemed to work. After the 10.5.4 update the duplicate user blogs bug started happening. To fix the problem I first logged in as "root" and went to the /library/collaboration/users and deleted the old entries -- that didn't work. I then logged onto the blog and tried to delete the blog entry -- I can only delete the content of the user blog. Then I try to "create a blog" and it creates yet another blog -- for the same user. I now have three blog for the same user -- and if I add content in one all three have the same content.

  • Posting Podcast file to user blog entry

    Hello,
I have a Apple Xserve (originally running Tiger) that was running a blog for some podcasting training that I was doing with some faculty at our high school. Faculty could subscribe to the podcast/blog in iTunes using the link provided for them automatically on the blog page. This was working fine and would update the podcast subscription for the faculty user as postings were added.
I got my Leopard cd in the mail for the Xserve. The faculty were ready for students (high school seniors) to start working/posting podcasts, the next step for podcasting in our district. I took an afternoon and did the Leopard install in hopes that we might also use the wiki/shared calendar offerings available in Leopard.
I did a standard install for the Leopard server, set up the users and groups, and then starting posting to the newly created user blogs. In the blog for the seniors, I enabled the podcast blog setting. The blog shows a Subscribe in iTunes link which opens iTunes and subscribes the visitor to the podcast. However, it will not load any of the podcast/blog entries into iTunes.
With the help of John Slaughter at Notre Dame, I was able to see that apparently the RSS feed is not parsing the "Subscribe to iTunes" URL correctly. John noticed that "Well, Safari agrees that it's an RSS feed. Not a valid one, but it does load. I wonder what's up with the " <div class="wiki_entry">" in the source code (which gets parsed out to div class="wiki_entry" in the browser.) Are they pasting the Quicktime HTML code into the body of the blog itself or using the upload feature? Because the blog will convert all "<"
On a related note, when posting a new entry to a blog, I cannot use the Podcast upload feature to upload the podcast file. It just hangs. I can add the file to the blog post by using the "Insert images, audio, or Quicktime movies" button in blog entry area.
You can see the blog here
    http://podcast.forrest.k12.ms.us/users/nfhsseniors/blog/
I would appreciate any direction/advice on how to 1) get the Podcast upload to work, and 2) get the iTunes subscription to start pulling in the postings. I want to get this available and publicized soon so that our students can show off their work publicly.
    Thanks,
    Dane

    Hi Dane,
I have exactly the same problem. Plus I'm finding it difficult to make progress... Sounds as though we were the same - happily running podcasts under the old system. Upload a file and use RSS Podcast to subscribe. Apparently this was running software called Blojsom.
Apple have changed to their own stuff. It was even difficult for me to find where the old blogs were and to reinstate them - but at least I got them up, trouble is now iTunes won't work because of the RSS feed problem. In fact as the RSS is now so well hidden away it gives me a headache as I had a lot of other things using it - even a mobile phone service linked to the podcast..
Now I can't subscribe or post a podcast up - I get a spinning wheel while it says it's uploading the podcasting material and stops at that. I have all the the right settings switched on to podcast etc, and followed all the other stuff about DNS to the letter.
One of our issues is that we are not using podcast producer (so I found nothing in that discussion group) - which is an automated workflow make-a podcast-as-you-go type thing, we just want to put up a media file (mp4 etc) and have it podcast. Yep it still shows the blog:
    http://podcast.ycoastco.ac.uk/users/admin/
but it no longer podcasts or accepts files to be podcast.
I'm sorry that this is no help apart from empathy across the atlantic but I do have a good Apple guy looking at it for me - I'll keep you posted.
    kind regards
    Mick

  • Is it possible to delete a users blog list without having to delete the entire user profile?

    Hello,
The problem I have is that a users blog entries have become corrupted, if you view his entries the page displayed is completely unrendered.
I'm not able to add a screen shot, but imagine if you will a loaded page, with no formatting, basically a plain html page, if that makes any sense!
If I or anyone else look at his blogs, the pages once again look unrendered, if he looks at another persons blog, it renders fine. So, it just looks like his (and his alone) blog list has some how or other been corrupted.
Is there a way to just delete the blog without having to delete his entire profile and get him to start all over again? The user doesn't mind losing his blog entries but would rather not have his whole profile deleted.
    Thanks

    Hi,
There will be a “Post” list in that user’s MySite storing all the blogs that below to that user, we can delete all the blogs in that list if with sufficient permission in that
    user’s MySite.

  • How to delete a blog entry in Lion Server Wiki?

Anyone know how to do this?  It seems that even logged in as system administrator you cannot delete blog entries using the web interface.
Wiki help unhelpfully reports that "If Delete Page or Delete File isn't listed, you can't delete the page or file.".  Really?
Thanks in advance for any help avail.

The above works most of the time, but sometimes User accounts can be stubborn.  I setup an admin account, perhaps unecessarily, when installing lion on a new solid state hard drive.  After migrating my original Admin account over from the hard drive I had difficulty in removing the newly created Admin (method: I clicked the minus and deleted the home folder, checking 'erase home folder securely') which resulted in the acct. being downgraded to Standard.  Still it would show up at startup login screen.  Although logging in to this account (to attempt to logout and then reattempt the delete) was not possible (never ending spinning beachball - not what you want with 20G RAM and a top end SSD).
    Then I found this -

  • Linking to Adobe PDF on blog entry crashing iWeb

Help! I have been using iWeb to create a website and blog. In a recent blog entry, i linked to an Adobe PDF file on my computer. The link was functioning and working fine, and then I saved the entry and iWeb crashed. I managed to open it back up by sending photos from iPhoto to iWeb. The other pages of the website work fine, and other blog posts also work fine. I tried publishing and the site published. However, in both iWeb and online, the blog post with the linked PDF is now just blank. The PDF works fine on its own and is not corrupted.
I have tried editing the post as well as deleting it in iWeb, but every time I click either button iWeb crashes and gives me an error message. I cannot duplicate the blog post either. This would somehow be okay, but I cannot add a new blog entry in iWeb either (it crashes). other pages are unaffected. I have not attempted deleting the entire blog portion of the website yet. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the malfunctioning blog post besides deleting the whole website and starting from scratch? Bear in mind the back-up of the Domain I saved was after I saved the blog post. Is there a 3rd party app that I can open my Domain in to manually remove the blog entry, or someway to access the code to delete the data that way?

This JUST happened to me as well after linking to a PDF file but now I can't get iWeb to load up, well, it opens and I can see the inspector pane but that is all...the main window is not there and I can't seem to figure out how to get it.
I also noticed a bunch of iWeb stuff in the trash now in a "recovered files" folder.
    Any ideas?

  • I want to insert a picture into a body of text in a blog entry page.

This has me stumped. I did it once but cannot do it again.
How can I place a picture into a body of text? I have a print-out from the HELP menu but it is not clear. It talks of inline and fixed objects. I think I want a fixed object -- one that does not move along with the text as the text grows/moves along the page incrementally.
Because I am working with the photo on a blog entry page I cannot do the Choose Insert > Choose > Select the file, and click insert. I cannot because (1) The picture has to stay on the page in that Magic Frame, and (2) the choosing capability of the iWeb program does not enable someone to go inside the iWeb program and land on a certain page.
I am working on the blog page. Instead of a tiny little picture of a doll at the top of the page, I want to raise all of the text and put the little doll's head inside the text body.
I am so stumped. The instructions are not clear at all.

Well i did exactly what your trying to do...go to
    http://www.mac-switch.com
and view the blog "power button shortcut"
Go to the section you want to add the photo
to...Click "insert" then "choose" and choose the file
you want to put in there.
    Good luck
    Rob.
    Hi Rob......
You know, I went to that Power Button Shortcut blog and for the life of me, your point went flying over my brains -- I just did not get what point you were making to me. The Power Button thing was not what I was trying to do. I was trying to put a PICTURE of a doll's head inside a body of text. That means I had to get text wrap to kick in, and..........
But the bottomest line is, I finally did it. I don't know how I did it because I was in a state of just clicking around, trying to move text. It's a long story to duplicate, but I went through several steps and since it was just desperation moves I was doing, I don't have a set of notes to go by for the next time.
The hard part, or one of them, was to get the Text Inspector to make he Text Wrap workable. For a long time , no matter what I did, the Text Wrap option remained greyed out. It was maddening. Then for reasons that I cannot recreate in an orderly fashion, I got the Text Wrap option to get bolded out, and thus an option.
Thank you for trying. BTW, I think your pages look wonderful and very slick (which I think is the right look for what you want to do with your website).

  • Necessary to re-build every blog entry????

So I am a novice computer user. I was able to design and publish my site on iweb. Very happy with the results. except.... do i really need to re-build every blog entry i make? when i add a new entry, I basically have to start from scratch everytime. doesn't seem like an efficent useof my time.... hoping there is a way to save my template so i would only have to update the content and not the page itself.
also wondering if it is possible to manage and upload my site from multiple computers?
thanks in advance for any help.

  • Blog entry: macs can't see, pc's can?

I am unable to view the text or main photo of my blog entry. It looks fine in iWeb, and all PC users can view - just not those on a mac? I can't see the text or main photo on my mac at work either. I have tried re-publishing several times, but for some reason, this blog entry is giving me problems. Thanks in advance for any advice!

can't help but noticed your page name, especially this part: %E2%80%A8
that is unicode escape sequence for line separator:

did you happen to copy+paste from another app?
you need to rename the page with standard ASCII characters and no special characters

  • User blogs "gone" after reboot

On 10.5.1 server, I had three users (myself included) that had started blogs.
On a reboot of the server, then re-surfing to the page, I get "no available users".
However, If I type in a name, the blog entries exist.
Note: I'm using Active Directory (AD)...
    Any help?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Little tip that might help. I was having the same problem with "no available users", even though I had successfully created a user blog and was able to access it directly via the /users/name manually entered URL.
I went into the Server Admin, selected the site, select the WebService tab, uncheck Blog, hit Save, check Blog again and hit save.
After that, the users start showing up, and new additions are getting added to the list without any problems. Go figure.
I'm guessing that there's an initialisation routine that reads the contents of the directory containing the user blogs, and turning the service off and on, it rereads the contents and gets itself back on track.

  • Is there a blog entry limit?

I've been searching the forums for an answer, but haven't been able to find one. Before moving from Rapid Weaver to iWeb 2.0 (my blog), I am interested in knowing whether there is a limit to the number of individual blog entries you can have in iWeb?
Another quick question. . . the iWeb's Help Viewer says that you can add images using a media placeholder. When I insert a placeholder (and image) into a blog entry, the image shows up fine there. But none of the images show up on the summary page.
I have made sure that the excerpt setting allows plenty of room for the image, in fact, text under the image shows up in the summary, but there's just a blank space where the image should be.
Does the blog summary page no longer support placeholders/images within an entry?

There is an *+iWeb '08 Getting Started Manual PDF+* on line:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iWeb08_GettingStarted.pdf
This is on Page 16 from the above manual:
"To add a new blog entry:
1 In the sidebar, click Entries.
2 Click the Add Entry button.
The new entry appears below the Title list with placeholder text and graphics.
3 Double-click the placeholder text to change the title and add your own text to the entry.
4 Drag graphics from iPhoto or elsewhere on your computer to replace the placeholder graphics. (If the Media Browser isn’t open, click Media in the toolbar and then click Photos to access your photos.)
If you make changes to a blog entry, such as changing the font or the background color, you can duplicate the entry the next time you add an entry and keep the same formatting."
There may be more info to read that you may need!

  • Iweb 08 - missing blog entries

All of a sudden, my website, hosted on mobilme has stopped showing the blog entries. I have tried uploading new content to the site and everything shows up just fine on my idisk where it should be, but the master page and archive page of the blog show no entries in Safari. Strangely, if you click the RSS feed, everything is where it should be and you can leaf through the blog pages that way. This is an old site which has worked without issue (except for the infamous transition period). I have made no procedural or structural changes to the site at all. Everything looks fine in iWeb. Any ideas why this would happen?
    Thanks
    RDD

It is a known bug in iWeb. Whenever I make a change or add a post, even in an other site or blog, then the whole blog summary is wiped out or has misplaced images. If you upload the changes, then your site will be damaged on the internet.
So whatever you do in iWeb and you have a blog, you always have to check all your other blogs to see if things are still as they should be.
After each change or addition my rss feed is ruined.
It is time Apple started paying attention to these signals.
Please in all cases send feedback to Apple. This is a recurring problem. If they don't fix it the blog part of iWeb is pretty useless, at least for me and many other users.

  • Blog Entries Saved to Folder

    Hi all:
I hope those of you who have already used iWeb 2 can answer me. One of the worste thing of the previous version of iWeb was that when I added a new post to my blog and saved it folder, it saved AGAIN all the other unedited posts and pages too. Therefore, when I add the 301th post I have to wait for iWeb to save all the 300. And this is pure madness.
Can I save only the new blog entries with iWeb 2?
    Thanks,
    -Antonio

I have note tested this yet but I feel quite sure nothing has changed for you.
When you add an entry to your blog your blog's base page has changed it's content; you understand that it must regenerate and upload that page anew. Your archive page too has changed in the respect that it has had the last listed entry on the base page added to the top of it's parade.
It only makes sense that it would have to upload both of these. So I assume it is storing these as two basic pages. One of which, in your case, is extremely large, the archival one. It's true a better approach would be to save 300+ pages and just use url's, but apparently they have decided against this.
I might suggest that you make an entirely separate page for your archival construction and route to it from your base page, rather than letting iWeb take care of all of that for you. If your home-made archival page never changes, it won't upgrade.
So you have your base page with 5 or 10 entries, your archival page with say another 20 or so, then you have your mega-archive as a different blog page inside iWeb, and route user with a url at the bottom of the iWeb archive page.
iWeb isn't the best tool for all jobs. If I was that industrious and had a 300+ entry blog I'd use iBlog (which is a **** of a nice program) or blog.mac, also a great program. Just a thought.
    Good luck!

  • IWeb Blog Entries - search, keywords, and categories?

    Hi all
I've been looking around these forums and elsewhere for help on this, but not having much luck...
I'm wanting to put a search box on to my iWeb site. I am not a MobileMe customer and therefore realise the default search field in iWeb will not work. Does anyone know of one/a way that will allow me to:
    - Search blog entries
    - Add keywords to blog entries created in iWeb
    - View blog entries that have been assigned to a particular category (e.g. A 'holidays' topic would show all the entries with the holiday keyword, the 'work' topic would show all entries with work...etc.)
All of this would need to be integrated in to my site, and ideally not be done on a 3rd-party site.
Any help would really be appreciated. Like I said, I am not a MobileMe user and would be publishing the site on my own webspace.
Hope someone out there can help!
    Thanks, and happy holidays!

  • Duplicate iTunes library entry

Apple support is awful and unhelpful.  Do I really have to go to an Apple store (miles away and in areas where parking is expensive) just to find a solution?  (Rhetorical question, no need to reply to this.)
I've searched for an solution in support/communities but found nothing for this particular problem.
My iTunes library on MacBook Pro was imported to the MacBook Pro from an older laptop.  I still have the older laptop. I do not listen to music on the older laptop and I do not use it for synching devices.
The new laptop now has duplicate music library entries and I can't tell which is the original and which is the duplicate.
Likewise, I've lost a link to a lot of music when I deleted duplicate entries.  (Apple, this was a stupid design.)   So…anyone got any solutions to help me RID my iTunes library of the duplicates listings WHILE maintaining a link to the original music?  And where do I find the index so I can get my deleted files back?
    Thanks.

This is what you should have done.  You can tell us what you actually did:
If you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to choose a library, then select the copied iTunes folder.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Image from blog entry page not showing up on 'home' page of blog

My first blog entry went well. I created a blog first page, then created an entry, and dragged a picture to that entry. I saved, published, and all looked great. Even the comment area worked. But when I created a second entry page, and dragge a picture to it, and saved, the photo is not showing up on that first page of the blog, the one that reads like a list only with a picture and teaser part of the entry...See http://web.me.com/brendatharp1/brendatharpblog/OnTheRoad/OnTheRoad.html
The entry listing is there on the first page, and when you click on the title link, it takes you to the entry page and the photos are there. I noticed that on the first page, the Sept 13th entry with photo is inside a text box of sorts - this was the layered paper template I used and then modified. Dbl-clicking to make that box interactive shows the black floating box for dealing with the placement of the photo in that list; but that box only relates to that one photo from the 13th. If I drag and drop the 15th's photo there, it just sits over the text and doesn't interact. AND I didn't have to do that with the first entry. Any ideas out there? Thanks much, Brenda.

    Does this thread help http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1711038&tstart=15
I have experienced this and it was because I removed the placeholder and just added the image on the entry page. I duplicate blog entries and delete content to add new stuff so don't have to reformat every time, if you do that don't remove the image just add on the top - it should replace the previous image. Hope this helps, it is frustrating at times but the more you learn the easier it becomes.
