DVCpro component is pinky

Hi all…
I’m having this problem…
Normally I capture form BetaSp true the component input of my IO board and looks good.
I bring a DVCpro deck (Panasonic AJ-D640) and hooked also to the component output but when I see it on the monitor and the capture screen.. it looks a little red, kind of pinky.
I check all cables to see if someone is wrong and is not.
I move all settings on FCP form Component Betacam and SMPT and doesn’t help
I move the deck settings form MII to Betacam YUV output and the same..
The only way it works, if looping form the DVCpro, to the BetaSp, and then to the IO, and it works. That make me believe that the TBC form the BetaSP corrected.
Also I done this tests..
DVCpro concect directly to a monitor true Y-Cb-Cr and composite outputs looks ok,
DVCpro connected to IO true composite, with uncompress 8 and 10 bits looks ok
BetaSP connected to IO true Y-Cb-Cr, with uncompress 8 and 10 Betacam SMPT codec looks ok
DVCpro connected to Beta SP and then to IO true Y-Cb-Cr with uncompress 8 and 10 Betacam SMPT codec looks ok
DVCpro connected to IO true Y-Cb-Cr, with uncompress 8 and 10 Betacam SMPT codec looks pink
DVCpro connected to IO true Y-Cb-Cr, with uncompress 8 and 10 Betacam Betacam codec looks light pink
I also use the IO control panel to adjust the levels but when start FCP its ignored.
Do anyone have this problem before.. or have any clue of what’s happening..
Do I need to bought an external TBC for the DVCpro..
Thanks.. any clue or direction are welcome…
Juan Carlos

You don't say what kind of "board" you're using for capture, but why not just bypass it and go straight FW with the DV capture settings?

  • Problem reading DVC PRO native files

    Hello
I cannot read DVC PRO native file using either my Quick Time Pro 7 or my final cut Pro 5. I only get the sound track with no image. I downloaded the DVCPRO component and installed it. Still no success. Can someone help ?
    Thanks

Are you referring to DVCProHD files from a Panasonic HVX or HPX?
    You aren't clear.
If you are, the mxf files have to be transcoded to DCProHD using import p2 command in FCP.

  • DVI out to component in (DVCPro HD)

Repost... Sorry, accidently posted in FCE, would like to ask again here.
Other than buying the Matrox MXO, I'm stumped.
I need to capture a clients PowerPoint into a FCP HD timeline so that they can see all their transitions, then I'll use Compressor to create an HD file which will play on their digital signage box. (plasma HD screen)
I already have a successful workflow with evey aspect EXCEPT getting PP in a HD sequence. PowerPoint is on a MacBook Pro (DVI out) to a quad G5 with a BlackMagic HD extreme card that accepts component in. I've tried a scan converter that has component out, and a simple DVI to component cable. BlackMagic card sees nothing in HD.
Matrox MXO says it'll do DVI to component (Y, Pb, Pr) all day long for a grand.
I would really like to explore my options at NAB this year, but the client won't wait that long.
And yes, the signage box will play PowerPoint presentations (.ppt files) that look great right now. However, when playing a PP presentation you can not overlay an instant messanging system crawl which is a must for them. This is why the PP must play as an MPEG2 HD file.
    Any help is most welcome!
    --Bob

Understanding the client wants their own transitions, so there would be a bunch more work. But if you do go this way I would suggest putting a "proxy" clip of the entire show (point a camera at the original PowerPoint playback) on V1, then cover that with your clips and transitions on V2. Should make the timing a lot easier.
But it does seem ridiculous that you should have to do that at all. Maybe a post house can help with a quick translation.

  • Hi, I have an iMac running Mavericks that I am trying to hook up an older HDTV as a second HD monitor through the minidisplay port to component 3 color RCA.  HDMI is not an option with this set.  I have SD working, but need to find a HD conversion set up.

Presently I have a mini display port>VGA adaptor, running to a convertor box I picked up that handles S-video out, which is working fine for SD.  I also have a VGA to Component Video (5 wire RCA) adaptor cable.  Connecting Component adaptor dircetly to the mini display adaptor doesn't seem to work, neither does plugging it into a VGA port on the SD convertor box.  I am guessing there is another convertor box out there that will help me make the transition from mini display to Component.  Even if it means having a handful of adaptors plugged in.  does anyone know where to find such a wonderful and magical device?
    Thanks

Your setup works fine for DV, because you used a DV deck and most likely DV footage. But now you are working with 720p HD footage (what format, BTW? HDV, dvcpro HD?). That same setup won't work for monitoring HD. Now you need an HD box or card to send out a proper HD signal. And since you have an older G5, you won't find any current solutions. You'll have to look at used capture cards that are PCIx. Or you and look at the Matrox MXO, that connects to the computer via a monitor connection. DVI.

  • Prorez 422 vs DVCPro HD for capture

I am producing a television show and need to decide on a capture codec. Does it make a difference in capturing between Prorez 422 or DVCPro HD? I will be doing a lot of keying and intense colors as the show is for children. Also some CGI for backgrounds. I know you can convert the codec but is there an advantage in capturing in one or the other. I am shooting with Panasonic HVX200 output from the uncompressed HD component out.
    Thanks,
    David Perry

I like ProRes. It is nice, but you may find certain 10bit rendering errors with FCP that don't show up in 8bit CODECs. Alpha channels from still graphics seem to be the worse problems. Also some of the transparency modes don't really work right in 10bit. This isn't really the fault of the ProRes CODEC, but appears to be a problem with FCP 6 and all 10 color spaces.
If you don't plan many transparent graphics, ProRES is awesome and I would recommend you use if if you have an uncompressed feed coming from the camera.
I would only recommend ProRes if you have AJA Kona hardware. Only the top Kona cards seem to support it fully. My LHe card supports it but most io devices don't.
The color space of the ProRes is very very nice. I've pushed a scene from a Varicam (captured via SDI into the Kona) by about 3 stops recently and was able to recover it without anybody knowing. It was slightly more grainy, but still very usable. DVCPro would not have taken this kind of abuse.

  • Is there a MAC Book to Component video adapter

I have a club customer who wants to play music videos off of the DJ's MAC. There will be different MAC's coming in. Is there a MAC to component adapter available?

The matrox MXO2 is likely what you are referring to. It would be an extremely useful i/o device for you if the price is acceptable. It will have good resale value for a few years too if you ever wanted to get rid of it. With your camera's chip set and resolution of 850 lines you can capture via component to 4:2:2 color space by editing in a codec like DVCPRO 50 which is very efficient and looks great too. It is a big step above anything dv related which is 4:1:1 color space. If you ever drop your video signal down to dv quality you will take a big hit picture quality wise. Another device is the original AJA IO which connects via firewire and gives you component i/o as well as s-video, composite and digital component as well. The AJA IO's are selling on ebay for $600.00 - $750.00. They were around $2500.00 originally. You could also use an AJA LA which is basically the analog side of the IO and they are a little cheaper. Blackmagic multibridge is another product that is similar. These are all pro level equipment. You will need FCP.

  • Fire Wire Component or Composite signal

Just curious, I've never really been informed or found the answer to this:
Is Fire Wire a component or composite video signal. I've heard agruements that it's both.
    Thanks,
    ed

all the formats in the D7 format (DV, DVCPRO, DVCAM, D8) are all Digital component
    D1 (8-bit), D5 (10-bit), D9 (digital S) and DVCPRO 50 are also all Digitial Composite signals<<
The formats yes ... but Firewire isn't a format. It's just a data transfer protocol.

  • DVCPro HD won't play ... Codecs are there!

This is weird.... but here I go
My laptop : MacBook Pro, OS10.4.8, FCP 5.1.2, QT 7.1.3, no software updates available... it worked fine with all DVC Pro HD footage from a Panasonic HVX200 camera. In fact I have a demo sequence I use regularly for demonstration... so it's a known quantity.
OK, a student gives me a QT movie made by "exporting an image sequence from QT 7.1.3 as a DVCPro HD 720p 60 fps movie". The original image sequence was made in Maya, and comprised of Iff stills which were opened in QT as an image sequence. I'm not familiar with IFF .. but they open in in QT individually and as a still sequence.
The exported QT movie played fine on the machine that rendered it (I saw it) but wouldn't play on a playback machine attached to a projector. It just showed a white screen. That was odd, since that playback machine had DVCPro Codecs just for this type of playback. However, I figured it was a Codec issue.... probably in the export process.
So took the movie to my laptop (specced as above) and tried to play it. Just a white screen. Huh? I know I have the right codecs. I inspected the movie's properties. Sure enough it's a DVCPro HD movie.
So then I opened my DVCPro demo sequence in FCP....remember I've played with this in FCP dozens of times on this machine.... and I get the message
"codec not found you may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card"
I checked in the ~Library/Quicktime folder and saw the following CODECS
    DVCPROHDMuxer.component
    DVCPROHDVideoDigitizer.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutputCodec.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutputClock.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutput.component
But no still DVCProHD playback in FCP or QT.
So I deleted all the ~Library/Quicktime codecs and reinstalled QT 7.1.3. No difference.
Then I uninstalled the complete FCP Studio using App Zapper and reinstalled FCP Studio 5.1 from the DVD's. Tried to play the demo DVCPro HD movie...No Difference.
Then I updated FCP 5.1 to 5.1.2. Still no difference. I can't play any DVCProHD material at all!
Predictably, the DVCPro HD codecs are back in the ~Library/Quicktime folder, but no playback.
It's like the movie made from the Maya stills has destroyed my FCP !
Anyone got a clue? I'm at a loss right now! I must be missing something...
    Thanks

  • DVCPRO HD AJA LHe

I need help to capture a dance recital I did four weeks ago with a Sony FX1 but I have problems.
I capture from the component FX1 to component Aja LHe.
I connect the RCA cables from the FX1 to XLR analog LHe channels 1 and 2. I also use an impedance box matching transformer.
When I capture 01:15:00;00 of footage, it only shows 01:12:30;00 (approximately I erased the file) in the bin and the timeline. However, the sound is all there. Only the last portion of the video is missing. The length of both clip is the same 01:12:30;00.
Please let me know if this is not clear.
I captured both ways already drop frame and no-drop frame with the same result.
    Please help.
    Thank you

    Editing-FX Productions

I used easy setup Aja DVCPRO HD 8 bit 1080i 29.97.
The only setting I changed was to Firewire NTSC. I have a firewire cable connected from the G5 to the FX1 that I forgot to mention to control the camera.
I have a feeling it has to do with capturing the sound at 32khz instead of 48khz but it shows 48khz. I have the sound coming in/out of the AJA card rather than the default setting or the G5.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

  • DVCPRO HD - 24p from HDX900 not smooth

I am preparing to do an HD project on my FCP system. This weekend I ran some tests by downconverting a DVCPRO HD test tape w/ 24p and 30p footage with pans and other stuff to Beta-SP AND separately capturing thru FW400. The DC went thru an AJA SDI to component converter. Sweet little box. The Beta downconvert and resulting edits worked with no problem. The FW capture and edit (from a 1200a deck) led to mixed results.
If the edit timebase was 23.98, everything looked okay, but since my final output is SD via compressor, the SD file compressed from that timeline (to uncompressed 8-bit) showed problems in intrepreting the pans - the single problem I'm getting is an extra, duplicate frame of video every five frames.
This can be counted by pressing the forward motion cursor several times. Every 4th and 5th frame are the same. When you play it's a juddery effect. The Beta doesn't show this. The original 23.98 timebase timeline doesn't show this. Other manifestations of timelines (29.97) do. I believe this is 'normal' 24p footage. I captured with an easy setup of 720p24 and 720p30 to see if one got rid of the problem, but it didn't.
My ultimate goal is to downconvert to Beta first, so it won't affect me. But what if I wanted to go direct, as many recommend I do? I'd be in a bad way. So, what might I be missing? Much appreciated.
    Chris

Just to clarify, (forget about the Bea downconvert part of my story) the way I'm going in this case is cutting the HD on a 23.98 timeline. So far, thankfully, that works. What's not working is the down-format. Ultimately, that will be in the form of a Betacam SP or DVCAM dub and certainly an SD DVD.
When I create the uncompressed 8-bit file in compressor, and reset the EZ setup in FCP to the BMD Decklink extreme codec, the remported file shows the camera pans displaying the extra fifth frame. I'm just trying to find a way to smooth out this part of the process. The experts on the group say creating SD through compressor at the end of the line is the thing to do. So I'm not so certain any of this points to my going the wrong way. But I'll be the first to admit I'm at my infancy in experience with HD and 24p. It get's a bit confusing.

  • DVCPRO HD 720p won't play

    Hey all,
I recently purchased a new iMac 20" intel core duo. I placed a few 720p HD QT files on it from my G4 12" laptop. These files work fine on the laptop but do not work fine on the Intel iMac (white screen, QT sends me to the 3rd party lug-in page, yadda, yadda).
I have the latest version of QT Pro on both machines.
I do not have FCP on the new machine, I have an old version of it on the laptop, which shouldn't matter as it's v3.x which doesn't even support HD formats.
I think where I've gone wrong, if I have, is in taking the DVCPRO HD component files from my laptop (/library/quicktime) and placing them in the same location on the Intel iMac.
So. My general question is how do I get the files to play on my new machine (I want to work with them in After Effects)? If, as some posts suggest, the latest QT version supports this format then why am I getting the white screen? If I need to completely re-install QT how can I ensure the current app and all of its support files are deleted before I do so?
    Thanks in advance,
    -Nils
iMac 20" core duo Mac OS X (10.4.9)

If that's the case (and I'm sure if I had FCP 5 or 6 I wouldn't be having these problems) then why does it work on my laptop which is running FCP 3.x, a version that doesn't support HD formats? I mean, are motion effects guys expected to have full versions of FCP just so we can get a QT format? If yes, that's ridiculous.
Not trying to be a smart-a**, just curious. Thanks for your advice ...
In sum, in your opinion, is there no work around other than installing a recent version of FCP on my Intel mac? (FYI, I've tried installing the 3.x version, which I own legitimately, but it won't install because the installer is asking for an original installation disk -- which is nonsense because I am attempting the install with the original installation disk ... but that's another matter all together ...)
    Cheers,

  • FCP & QuickTime DvcPro HD Digitizer 720p 25 for PAL Big World Missing!!!!

    Now,
after I've been days on DvxUser forum, tried various solution found there I'm ending up with a simple question as an HVX200 user:
    - What's the problem with the PAL Huge World, Apple? As far as I know my International clients when ask for an Ntsc copy is for US or Japan (the other few that use it are out of the big Business).
    - So WHY Apple, that is in the video/film business since the begging of NLE systems, always forget? or it's late in developping Pal solutions?
    From Panasonic Q&A P2 site:
Q5 : Can the AG-HVX200 output the SD or HD signal through the IEEE1394 terminal?
A : The AG-HVX200 can output the SD or HD signal through the IEEE1394 terminal according to the menu setting.
Select the format in the "REC FORMAT" item of CAMERA menu.
In the native format, 720/24PN, 720/25PN or 720/30PN, the AG-HVX200 cannot output the signal of camera picture through the IEEE1394 terminal. In this case, record a picture on a P2 card once and then playback it.
When output the signal recorded on the P2 card, the signal is output through the IEEE1394 terminal in its recorded format and cannot be output through the IEEE1394 terminal in the up-converted format or the down-converted one.
    - The only easy setup for Log & Capture DVCPRO HD is 1080i50. That's it!
    - While in Ntsc has 1080i60 and all 720p: 24/30/60.
Even with the Sequences setup!! Thanks to some guys that wrote a great pdf and also an Xml file for a sequence 720p 25 and 50...
So the HUGE World of Pal users has to help themself....
Hopefully if these 30 glorious years are just the begging, the next will be also HD PAL years!!
    piero

    Hi Shane,
thanks for your point of view, I always appreciate your advices in this forum.
Back to issue, the problem is Capture (digitizer) that is limited to 1080i50 not for Compressor (if you look inside the Capture Preset 1080i 50), so you can't use any other option than P2 card or Firestore to get the other HD Pal formats.
I also want to share (may be someone else already did it, but as in latin "Repetita juvant") the link on that helpful site on FCP and DvcPro HD, and Hvx200 also. He has done a great job for all of us pal'ers:
    http://www.aulich-adamski.de/wp-content/720p50HVX200en.pdf
    So the points are:
    - The world is going HD? Yes! So our business!
    - ok Hdv has been adopted by major prosumer camera maker.
    - the DvcPro HD Pal codec is not that new (the Varicam, the 900, etc).
    - the HVX200 in just few months, as you can read on DvxUser forum, is very popular in all of the application (indie, commercial, music video, doc, feature film or tv series) and the results are very good.
    - Is FCP a pro application? Yes, so...support professional people.
    - It's much more easier to work in FCP with DvcPro codec than Hdv.
    - I've seen many posts of Hvx users that were asking for a live capture solution apart from Firestore and similar. We are in that group, as we've to shoot hours of live content.
    - The new Mac Book Pro cannot (by now) accept P2 Cards 'cause the express slot. So we were buying two of them for HD work but we put them on hold and keep the PBook. So the alternative for MBP is capturing live via firewire, but limited in Pal market.
    - Last but not least: Panasonic DvcPro HD Fcp plugin Frame Converter (for VFR) does NOT work in Pal even if you capture through P2 card.
May be is also Panasonic that is slow in updating Pal tools, who knows, but the only other alternative (that you can find on the site above) is using a Component HD card to capture the other formats, that means that you have to carry in studio/location at least a G5...
Finally, as I'm not a developper: does it take that long and is that heavy work to translate a QT digitizer codec from 24p to 25p? or from 60 to 50?
I'm pretty sure that if you do an online poll for Hvx users to pay 5 euro each one to have that codecs done by some developper, they will !!!
    Take care,

  • Can't get a decent SD DVD from DVCPRO HD material

We made the jump to HD and started shooting in DVCPRO HD (1080i60). We still deliver all of our final shows on standard DVD. I've been trying all week to come up with a workflow that will make a decent DVD from DVCPRO HD timelines, but I just can't get a decent image. First i tried just using the 2 pass best 90 minutes setting, and the dvd looked awful. Lots of heavy artifacting everywhere. Surfed the forums a bit, and someone recommended that I first convert the DVCPRO HD movie to SD 8 bit, then make the mpegs from the 8 bit movie. That helped a little, but still had artifacting in shoulders, hair, etc... So then I turned frame controls on and used the best setting for the resize filter when going from HD to SD 8 bit. This made further progress, but is still a lot worse than other SD dvd's I make with DVCPRO 50 footage or even mini dv footage. Anyone have a workflow out there that will give me a decent looking DVD? I can't seem to crack the HD to SD code.
    I'm using Compressor 3 on a G5 quad.

I still haven't found a way to make this work in compressor, but I have found a workaround for those of you with a Downconverting capture card and a tape deck. I use the component out of my aja card which automatically does a hardware downconvert of my 1080i material to SD anamorphic. I print to tape using my DVCPRO 50 deck, digitize the tape as DVCRPO 50 anamorphic once the tape has finished recording, then use SD DVD presets in compressor as normal. MUCH MUCH better looking DVD's. It's a pain, but the hardware downconversion in the KONA card seems to be light years ahead of anything compressor can produce using software.

  • Usage of MXF OP1a DVCPro/AVC Intra

    Hi,
    This is a special one.
We use Omneon MediaGrid as a central server and would like to have access to the media natively.
Codecs we use are: DVCPro25, DVCPro50, AVCIntra50, AVCIntra100 all in MXF OP1a wrapper.
The machines are HP Z800 workstations. My questions are:
Will there be support for the above mentioned codecs in reasonable amount of time?
Is there a "simple" way to get above mentioned codecs in and out of CS4 Windows?
I'm aware that on Mac this is possible using MXF4Mac components. Well, it's on Mac.
    Thanks for any input,
    John

Well, as of CS4.2, all of those codecs are supported, provided that they are in Panasonic P2 MXF format. However, the particular formats you want to work with are packaged differently (even though, technically, the video decoding component is there in CS4), and PPro has no way to crack those files open to get at the goodies inside. You'll need a third-party splitter for the MXF containers and then a decoder for the contents--you're obviously aware of this as you cited the MXF4Mac components.
I'm not sure if it will work for your files or not, but give the Calibrated Software MXF Import plug-in (for Windows) a shot; DVCPRO flavors are listed, but I see no mention of AVCIntra. There is a demo available, which will let you test the functionality of the plug-in, and to see if it will at least serve part of your needs.
Unfortunately, I don't think you'll ever see out-of-the-box support for these particular containers; Premiere Pro (and most NLEs, for that matter) are designed for and work best with media files generated by a camcorder or some sort of lensed acquisition unit. Playout systems like these are anybody's guess as to if or when they'll be supported. My bet says "never", but I reserve the right to be completely wrong.
Post back if you meet with any success...
