DVD templates- any more?

does anyone know where I can buy a few more dvd studio pro templates? does apple offer any for download?

Do a quick search for DVD templates to see the other threads and people may have found some sites that they prefer, though none particularly jump out in my mind. (Part of the issue is many people make their own for DVD SP.)
Definately check out the first couple of links in the google search, some nice looking ones there. I am not sure there is a one size fit all package, from the times I looked it would look like one is okay in a package but maybe not the others.

  • My G4 iBook will not play DVD's any more

it will play CD's, but not DVD's all of the sudden. It opens DVD player and tries to look at the disc, but then says it is not a supported disc format or something like that. I've tried many DVD's, including commercially produced ones; none will play.
Used to play them just fine. I think the last thing I did before having problems was trying to install some software for a memory stick that had a secure/password authenticated area. Could I have deleted something important? This is a reconditioned Mac, so I don't have the OS discs to re-install.
    Thanks very much!

Short of being able to try the normal and recommended paths of
restoring the software, in case something was deleted and to also
troubleshoot the hardware, most ideas may be too shallow to do
the correct job of resolving any underlying problems the computer
may exhibit since symptoms can mirror other issues.
Routine maintenance requires you repair disk permissions once
    and awhile, perhaps fairly often if installing apps and updates;
since before and after each intervention is recommended by most
users with experience; the Disk Utility (see GO in Finder, note
Utility Folder) can let you run 'repair disk permissions' and also
    you can try booting in SafeBoot (hold Shift key down on startup;
and then login, and then run Disk Utility's 'repair disk permissions'
    followed by a normal restart. This may help clear up user issues;
but can't fix damaged or missing system parts.
Depending on what OS X version is installed in the computer,
    using a bootable OS X installer disc is even a marginal choice;
since using the wrong disc can mess up the existing OS version.
You can figure out fairly close, what OS X version your iBook
shipped with by noting the hardware specs and also comparing
them against the free information from http://mactracker.ca a
download database of considerable usefulness with most Macs.
The original restore install boot disc set the computer shipped with
has the Apple Hardware Test and other options on the Installer to
include Disk Utility and the ability to do an Archive & Install, where
you can keep your user account into while the installer puts a new
system in the computer (not a first thing to do, btw.) And there are
things the correct boot installer disc allows you to do preventively.
The optical drive lens may be partially dirty; so the drive can't read
DVDs correctly. That may be remedied by using one of the cleaner
devices which could work in a slot-load optical drive. Or, there is a
chance the optical drive may be defective and require a replacement.
If the seller has any ideas on getting a boot disc (any one could look
and hope to find these original equipment parts on eBay, etc; they
should be included with the computer, however) or has a decent cost
    for troubleshooting and repair - a last resort, if not a reliable company;
these avenues could be checked into first.
Not any bootable disc will work, it has to be the correct one; either one
which the system - as shipped, was installed with and came from Apple
or one which was a full retail installer disc and was newer than the Mac.
Software such as iLife was not a part of the retail OS X disc install but
may have been included with the original computer's OS X bundle.
That is to say, Tiger 10.4.0 retail won't boot an iBook G4 which shipped
with Tiger 10.4.2, etc and the Tiger retail disc won't have iLife apps in it.
Troubleshooting the optical drive and system software, along with the
rest of the computer's hardware is recommended as a first step. To
find out what is right about the computer and go from there... And to
do that, certain basic tools such as the OS X installer is recommended.
Or take the computer to a shop where they have an authorized repair
station set up and a trained technician who knows your product well,
is the correct and non-assuming way to work on resolving this issue.
Do you have more specific machine information to identify which iBook
G4 you have? There is info in System Profiler, and also on the Mac's
case; the latter would show the as-shipped hardware configuration
while the System Profiler (see About this Mac, under Blue apple menu)
may show any changes or upgrades in hardware, as well as OS version
and applications installed in the system.
    It may be possible to download just the DVD Player from Apple Support;
it would have to be the correct one for whatever OS X version you have,
or if you had a retail OS X installer plus got the Pacifist utility, you could
scavenge the DVD Player from the installer disc and only install it.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Why won't my CDs/DVDs play any more!?!?

Hi knowledgeable and helpful peeps here's a problem for you... my CD drive suddenly seems to have stopped working. It seems to coincide with the latest iTunes update. Used to work fine before, was able to rip CDs with no problems. Now it won't work! Looking at the device properties for the drive it still says 'this device is working properly' (when it clearly aint!) When I put a CD in, the light flashes and every so often the cursor changes to a little cd icon then changes back to normal, and ultimately nothing happens! They're not recognised in iTunes or any other media player. I ran the CD diagnostics in iTunes and here's what it said:-
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
    Time Computers P4M266-8235
    iTunes 6.0.5.20
    CD Driver 2.0.4.3
    CD Driver DLL 2.0.3.2
    LowerFilters: PxHelp20 (2.0.0.0), Pfc (2.5.0.204),
    UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.0.4.3),
Video Driver: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 \GeForce FX 5200
IDE\DiskWDCWD2000BB-00GUA0____________________08.02D08, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
IDE\CdRomVOM-12E48X_____________________________100D___, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [1,0]
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.
    Current user is administrator.
    D: VOM-12E48X, Rev 100D
    Drive is empty.
But there IS a CD in the drive! Can anyone help? I'm not very knowledgeable about PC's but have tried all the troubleshooting/help programs on Windows with no luck. So frustrating! It just seems to have happened since getting the latest update of iTunes, but maybe thats just a coincidence. I've had the pc for about 18 months and have encountered no problems like this before. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Well what your describing isn't really a itunes issue, its more an issue with either "The System or windows" OR its a issue with the drive itself.
You need to see if windows can read from the drive by putting a CD in the drive, then going to "My COmputer" and clicking on the drives icon or rightclickthing the icon/drive and selecting "Open"
Also goto the PC makers site and install BIOS, chipset and CD ROM FIrmware updates

I suspect you are attempting to burn an HD DVD, which will not play on a DVD player...
But if you provide more details such as the settings you are applying in Compressor, then we would be able to provide you more accurate information.
How are you adding the files to Compressor?
In FCP, what are your footage properties (command-9) and sequence settings (command-0)

  • No opening of Aperture Library.aplibrary any more: HOW TO GET ACCESS?

It took me a long time till I decided to write this topic- I tried ALL the tips and hints described in this forum before.
This is the situation: APERTURE (1.5.2) does not open its library any more.
After having read about similar problems described in this forum, and after not beeing able to resolve the problem, I finally...
    - backed up the whole machine
    - reinstalled system (10.4.9) including all system updates (clean install, formatting HD)
    - re-installed APERTURE from original DVD
    - ran updater to arrive to APERTURE 1.5.2
    - re-installed new Prokit File in System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/Prokit, got the file here: http://www.itsadirtyword.com/downloads/ProKit.zip, from thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=892893&tstart=30
    - opened Aperture.
Till here all OK. Aperture opens and shows a vergin project, asking if I wish to import sample project.
Now I wish to get my photographs back from the backup file.
I give the command "rebuild from backup" (maybe in english it's different, I do have a german version of APERTURE installed, there it is called "Bibliothek wiederherstellen").
Now APERTURE starts (and shows me) the import process, counting down around 80.000 files (there are not THAT many photographs, I guess it includes all the preview-files). This takes quite a while. When finished, it says: "Import was OK, now you have to re-start the program". No choice is given, I just push the restart button, APERTURE quits, launches again- but it does not open the project file. Just the startup screen is seen, and then the menu- but no window.
If I check for the Aperture Library.aplibrary file, it is there, in the correct folder, now 42 GB, which corresponds to the size of the backup file.
I do not have a chance to open it, however.
Even if I Quit the program, throw away com.apple.Aperture.plist (from >Library>Preferences) and re-start it again, it won't open the Library File. Just nothing comes.
Throwing the Aperture Library.aplibrary file, it causes APERTURE to create a new one upon start-up. If I then re-import the backup file, the same thing will happen again: Once the re-import finished, it will not open the project window any more.
I absolutely NEED to access these photographs. Please help.
    Thank you,
    Markus

Mac Book Pro 17''   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Thank you so much, David, for your efforts!
I had tried this, but no result.
As APERTURE worked as soon as I had thrown the BIG library (the program just created a virgin library, which worked when importing pictures), I presumed the problem was the library file.
Even if I get upset that this kind of data base file is not bullet-proof, storing thousands of pictures which have enormous value (and where even the BACKUP file seemed to be corrupted, as the problem came up restoring the backup file!), I started from the idea that the problem was this library file.
    So, I...
    - made APERTURE create a virgin library.
    - opened the old (corrupted?) library file by option-clicking on the file and clicking onto "Show Packet Content".
    - I IMPORTED the different "xxx.approject"-files by hand into the new library.
This took me a quite while, but now it seems the system is up again.
Some photographs (shot in Nikon RAW format) show as "not supported file", I have to see how to deal with this, and if for example by exporting them I can save something.
I now made a backup, creating a new vault, and it worked with no error messages. Also controlling the vault file, everything seems to be there.
So, "somehow" all is saved, even if the real problem has not been found. This is why I will not set the flag on "Answered question".
As I mentioned before, I think that this data base handling of APERTURE has to be (nearly) 100% safe, as Mac OSX is.
It just HAS to work, no chance to arrive to "corrupted files" or something like this.
Apple: Build in automatic database repairings, make sure the backup files ARE ok (mine was not, it seems), do whatever is necessary for not leaving any possibility for "inconsistent files" or stuff like that.
If these things just CAN (and do) happen, the software is not worth a penny.
The photographs just HAVE to be in a secure place, like money brought to bank just HAS to be safe there. If even the BACKUP file is corrupted, WHERE is the security for my photographs?
Apple, if you wish to play in the "professional filed", this just HAS to work. No other choice.
Thanks again David for your efforts!

My DVD Studio Pro 4.2.2 has shown graphic subtitles (tifs) until kind of recently.
Even earlier created projects doesn't show them any more.
What happend. Has anybody else noticed this thing?
How can I make them visible again?
    I'm on OSX 10.6.8

There shouldn't be a need to mouse over the tab to see what the title is. The space is wasted otherwise, so why not display the title there whether or not the menu bar is also displayed?
I attached a picture showing exactly what I'm talking about, excuse the quick ms paint job.

  • 10.4.7. iMac 20" CoreDuo won't start any more

I did upload 10.4.7 yesterday together with iPhoto, iPod, iTunes (6.0.5.) and some other recent updates (altogether there were five, I cannot recall the last one). At first I did notice some “ticking” inside the iMac (2.0 GB RAM) every now and then, let’s say few minutes apart. That has never been heard before. Then this morning I noticed that iTunes was very slow. I did add few of my cd’s, and when attached the cover photo to the lower left corner the iTunes did update it very slowly, I think it took 1-2 minutes to add a photo to 12-15 songs. Then I did call Apple support (case #653790xx). The call took over an hour since everything I did on my computer was like slow motion. We did use DiskRepair and looked at the Console. When restarting the iMac it took several minutes, and when using safe re-start (shift on after re-start) the OS didn’t recognize my bluetooth keyboard. Then I was given advice to reload 10.4.7 from Apple’s site and install it again. Also I was asked to do Hardware Test (from install DVD). When I did try to re-install 10.4.7 there was an error after 71% uploaded, the installer asked to do that again. Then I did Hardware Test as advised, but there were no errors found (I did extended test with looping on and took several rounds). Next, when I tried to restart iMac from hard drive (Macintosh HD 10.4.7), it stopped repeatedly on Mac OS X window. Now I’m stucked, my iMac won’t start any more (I’m writing this by Windows machine, can you imagine?!)
I don’t know what’s wrong, but I have used Macintosh from 1987 (IIcx) and never, never before I have had these kind of problems. I suggest so far, that you take care when installing 10.4.7 on Intel iMac, I guess there might be a problem. I wonder why there is not email support for these kinds of problems and alert messages…? I’ll leave sailing tomorrow for two weeks and cannot report this by phone.
    iMac 20" (CoreDuo)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Only way to get iMac starting again was to re-install 10.4.4 from DVD, and then update it into 10.4.6. For a while it worked perfectly, just as before.
Then I tried to print to CD with my EPSON Stylus Photo 950 from Adobe Photoshop Elements (2.0). It didn't print anything, but printer started flashing all lights. The print job was not performed, so I did remove it from the Printer Utility. After that the iMac started "ticking" again, same noise than before, after 10.4.7 installation. I did re-boot iMac. It never started, it does stuck on gray screen (gray block running clockwise). HW test from DVD didn't find any problems (extended search looping 3 times). But Disk Utility found hard drive to have inaccurate node structure, it could not fix it.
Apple support recommended to use DiskWarrior. However, it does not support (yet) Intel Macs. I haven't got TechTool Pro 4.5.1 anywhere. iMac does start on to FireWire mode (T at boot), but I cannot see the disk from 10.2.8 iMac.
So, obvisously the problem is not 10.4.7. I believe it to be ESPON printer driver compatibility on Mac OSX. This does not suprise me, EPSON printers *****, I shall never purchase one again. However, disk catalog structure should not get messed by one faulty printer driver!

  • Not able to print cards with design in iphoto any more

At Christmas I needed some more of the cards I had ordered at short notice so I printed them out on my own printer. It worked really well. I have just created a card and went to print but the card template does not print any more. I assume that this has been changed with an update???!! How do I fix??
It will still print the text and photos but not the card template( design)???

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you able to change themes/templates on the cards?
Try this: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Open topics by double-clicking them in the DITA map - not working any more?

    Hi all,
I just noticed when I double-click a topicref in a DITA map in FM12 then the referenced topic does not open any more. I checked the problem with several maps. Is this a bug/feature or do I need to activate this function somewhere in the options?
    Robert

    Hi Robert...
When you say that you need "variations" from the normal topic type .. are those structural variations or just formatting? FM associates structure apps with XML files based on the doctype (root element). If your files all have the same root element, then they will all open with the same structure application (unless you specify a different one when opening the file or by importing a new EDD). It sounds like you really should be creating a specialization for each alternate topic type. If you don't, you'll end up getting the wrong "model" assigned to the wrong file.
Multiple EDDs (structure apps) can share the same DTD, and one EDD (structure app) can support multiple models. This is how the "ditabase" app works. There are lots of ways to set this up, but I think what you've done is probably not quite right.
The default structure app setup in FM11 and FM12 is very complicated to work with. I recommend creating a single app that supports many models. This isn't always possible, but it sounds like in your case it should be. I've set up one app that supports 13 different specialized topic models and it works fine.
Note that even though you've added structure apps for each model, if you end up opening the files using the default template, you are no longer using those modified models.
Sorry, but this is a bit more than can be dealt with appropriately in a forum post. If you'd like more help with this, feel free to contact me off list.
