DVD write error 0x80020022

I've tried twice to burn a folder to DVD and twice received the 0x80020022 error right at the end of the burn process. Drive or software related?

I changed brand of DVD; HP 16x worked just fine.

  • After burning 3 dvds, got error 0x80020022 on MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-845 Drive. Used 1x speed. iMac G5 PowerPC

    MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-845:
    Error message: 0x80020022.
Got this after burning 5 other discs. Two of which didn't burn and ejected. When I inserted them again, they did not appear on desktop. Had to use Disc Utility to eject them.   After those two issues, this message showed up when re-trying the burn process.
What must I do to get this drive to burn the discs?

Thanks for the info.  I have another question pertaining to your answer:  "What speed would be best to use so the drive doesn't become HOT--- lowest speed for a longer period of time. . . OR . . . at a faster speed for a lesser time?
Also, I tried using it half-hour later and got same result.  I then waited 1 hour longer and it worked then.
Thanks to all letting me know to cool it off!

  • Dual Layer DVD write error #80020022 - failure to communicate with disk

This only happens on Dual Layer DVDs, and always just as it's finishing. "Communcation with the disk drive failed error code: 80020022"
Used Disk Util and direct burn via finder - both give same error. The image is a .cdr created via DiskUtil, original from a factory cut dual layer DVD, about 7.2GB. The target blank is a "Double Layer DVD+R" Memorex.
The resultant disk is full, but unusable. Re-insertion sees it as a blank disk with no usable space. It wrote something, but certainly not the TOC?
MacBook Pro 2.5, about 6 months old, lastest Leopard
Please - any ideas? Do I have a hardware issue?

Wow - thanks for the quick reply, pullman! I did all of the ideas you listed, no luck. The only way to make this fail is to write to a double sided DVD, I've gone through a stack already just testing/failing. This also fails when writing to a double sided DVD through the finder (then clicking on "burn")
Here's a copy of the console error logs:
    http://baxnet.com/bs/picture6.png
-- which indicate a hardware/polling error on the DVD drive itself.
Note that it is complaining about /dev/disk1, which on my system maps to the DVD drive:
    Model: MATSHITADVD-R UJ-867
    Revision: HA13
    Serial Number: HG010865
    Detachable Drive: No
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 0
    Socket Type: Internal
    Low Power Polling: Yes
Thanks again for your help - but still no luck. According to the logs, this may well be a device/hardware problem. Would you suggest a call to Apple support?

My DVD write comes up with an error -43. Never done that before. What could be the reason. Please help

iDVD is not involved in the process at all.
What you want to do is create a data disk on a DVD.  That's done by inserting a blank DVD disc in the optical drive, Option+drag the files you want to backup onto the disc icon on the desktop and then drag that icon to the Trash bin in the dock which turns into the Burn feature.
Try that (the Option+drag and see if you can get your files to burn.

  • EMac optical drive: Reads but ceased writing.  I get "Sense key=MEDIUM ERROR, Sense Code=0x0C, WRITE ERROR.  Drive is Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-127D.

eMac optical drive: reads fine but has ceased writing.  One day it's working fine, burning DVDs, then after repeated attempts stops copying and gives the following error message:  "Sense key=MEDIUM ERROR, Sense Code=0x0C, WRITE ERROR".  Drive is Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-127D.  Is this a software issue or is the drive half dead?  Get the same result with either Popcorn or Toast 10.

Are you using Roxio Toast? That error seems to be discussed a lot in the Roxio forums. Scroll down this thread:

  • T400 CD-R & DVD-R write error

    Hi All,
I have a T400 that came with Windows XP installed and a recovery disk with a Windows 7 image.  When XP was discontinued, I used the recovery disk to upgrade to 7.  Since doing so, I have not been able to use the optical drive to record media.
I found an article from lenovo that says that this issue is related to the IRST driver being out of date.  They provided a solution and workaround procedure.  I have tried the workaround and have been successful on a few occasions. The solution is to update the IRST driver but Intel Rapid Storage Technology is a RAID driver package and I'm pretty sure my T400 does not have a RAID array.  Perhaps there is another driver that I need to update.
The drive is a DVD / CD RW Multi Recorder and it will read any disk I put in,  but it will put up a fight to record.
    Any advice?
    Thank you in advance,
    JP

  • DVD-R burn error "medium write error"

Just received a refurbished iMac today. Doing a basic Disc Copy from Disk Utility and burn one disc OK. The second disc ejects half way through burn and "medium write error" pops up. All the disc I pull out are blazing hot as well. I don't know if this has anything to do with it.
I am trying another burn now. Has anybody seen this error or had DVD-R burning issues?
    Thanks,
    Adam

I saw this using Toast 9 -- turned out I had turned on the DVD-DL support by accident and I didn't have a DL DVD drive.

  • Media write error for dual layer DVD burn

I am having a problem burning a dmg to a dual layer DVD using the internal DVD writer. I have tried both Disk Utility and SimplyBurns.
Both program s go through the preparation for the file, and when it attempts to burn the disk I get a 'media write error'. I am using Memorex DVD +R DL disks. I have successfully burned both CDs and regular DVDs with the drive.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can fix this?
    Thanks

I am using Memorex DVD +R DL disks.
    Try Verbatim DVD+R DL discs.

  • Medium write error when burning a DVD. Uh?

So I mounted my DVD and burnt 2 x copies successfully. When it came to number three the message "Medium write error" came up and the disk was rejected unburnt! I got the new iMac cos the old one's DVD burner failed. What can I do to get things working again? iMac is about a month old.

is there a list of media that works in a mac?
or is it safe to say that the more expensive the dvds the highr the chance that it will work

  • I can't burn CD or DVD.  I get a "medium write error."  I bought an external CD drive, and get the same message.

What are you trying to achieve?  Are you trying to burn to disk via the iPhoto Share ➙ Burn menu? That produces a mini library on the disk that can be used only by a Mac running iPhoto.
If you want to burn just some image files to a data CD/DVD disk then follow Larry's recommended workflow.
What disk type and manufacturer are your using? What system and iPhoto version are you running?  Have you run the OS X Mountain Lion: Use Apple Hardware Test? When did the burning proiblem begin?  If you can't burn a disk from the Finder then it's a hardware or system problem and not an iPhoto one.

  • Formatting write error every time when trying to burn a DVD

DVD Studio has worked for me in the past, but now every time I try to burn a DVD project, I get this: "Formatting failed - The recording device reported the media error: Write error (0x0C, 0x00)"
As far as I can tell, I cleared the prefs for DVD Studio, but that didn't help. Does anyone have an idea of what I can do to fix this problem? Thx.

    Hi:
    Wellcome to the forum !
Probably DVDSP and/or your drive don't like your media. No matter that, me and other found that DVDSP is one of the worst way to burn DVDs.
Try * Creating Disc Image in DVDSP * and burn it using Disk Utility and/or Toast.
About your media, you can * USE THIS SITE * as reference.
    Hope that helps !

  • "Medium Write Error" when trying to burn DVD

i have recently been receiving the message "medium write error" every time I try to burn a DVD in my mac book pro 13 inch  It doesn't matter which program I use to burn, they all give me the same (or similar) message. I also tried booting into Windows and burning from there using ImgBrn it and it was
    succeed
the program went from "preparing disk" to writing to  "finishing", ejected the disk and made the usual error and it looks like it don't start writing as when i put the dvd back the dvd is still empty
I used to burn these disks perfectly well with no problems, before i install lion i don't know if this is lion problem or what
i also tried to attempt to reset the PRAM.  by holding down CMD+Option+P+R while booting MBP and waiting until it chimes a second time to let go of those keys.i haven't changed anything so don't understand why the error occurs. I've bought a lens cleaner disk and ran that for 2-3 minutes and repaired permissions on the HD but that didn't work either. The drive works flawlessly reading DVDs and CDs with no problem no problems.
any one can help please ????

    Sorry, I'm afraid I don't understand this.

The problem is that it's not relevant if the programmes use the same burn engine (eg, iTunes and Finder). You need to test apps which do not use Apple's burn engine, eg, cdrdao, cdrecord, Burn, LiquidCD, Disco, Roxio Toast, NTI DragonBurn, etc. But, FWIW, my bet is not on a software issue.

  • My Macbook keeps saying 'The burn to the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-898 drive failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error.' everytime I try to burn a cd with data on it, it has only just started doing it after 2 years of use, how do I fix it?

Have you tried using a different brand of optical disk? (You don't say whether you are doing CDs or DVDs.) Some are better than others.

  • Pioneer DVD Writer Model DVR107D notification Internal hardware error

I have a power PC TigerOS 10.4.11 and I have an onboard Pioneer DVD writer model DVR107D.  I am having a problem with notification saying that there is an internal hardware error right at the end of the writing and verification doesn't occur.  I have looked for firmware update on Pioneer website, but cannot find for a Mac.  I wonder whether an update to apple software has caused this problem?  Is there any advice regarding this issue?

    Hi-
I doubt that a software update is the issue given the OS version that you are running.
It could be a laser issue, either due to age or dirt.
It may also be a media compatibility issue, in which a firmware update would help.
Use the tools on this page for the DVR-107:

  • HT2801 imac, osx 10.9.1, burning dvd problem, correctly does 80% of DVD then damaged area, flags write error, but obviously not as correctly does 80%

help please, my imac is burning part of a dvd correcly then ends with a damaged area and give the error message "write error", clearly there is no disc incompatability, it occasionally will burn correctly, I've tried cleaning the superdrive with no effect.  I'm thinking of trying an external superdrive.

ken_sim: I have solved my own problem with an external superdrive
