Dynamic link problem, PPro cs5 - AE cs5, multi-cam sequence

This is odd. I'm working on a two camera interview in Production Premium CS5. Did the standard stuff - a source sequence with both cameras, did some rough editing here (syncing the two cameras, trimming the clips, etc.). Then nested the source sequence into a multi-cam edit sequence. Used the multi-cam monitor to switch back and forth between cameras, etc. All is good.
But my editor wants to make three separate videos from this interview. So the logical thing (so I thought anyway) would be to nest this muiti-cam edit squence into three separate target sequences. Then I could get the camera switching done just once, and slice-'n-dice the three target sequences to make the short-'n-sweet individual videos that make my editor happy. Did this for the first target (a single question and answer). The result looks fine in PPro, and editor approves. All that's left is adding the lower thirds.
Everything fine until I go to export to AE via dynamic link so I can add lower thirds and finish up. What PPro sends to AE isn't just my target sequence, but it also sends the multi-cam edit sequence and the source sequence as well. But.... it ignores it all and will only show me the Acam footage. Bcam doesn't show up at all. Clearly this isn't working. But now I find that I can't even break the links. So I can't even start over. Sigh...
Two questions: First, how does one export a multi-cam edit sequence via dynamic link from PPro to AE, and have it show up in AE looking like it does in PPro? In other words, what did I do wrong?
Second, how can I recover from this? Do I really have to delete my target sequence in PPro and start over (and by extension, delete the AE project also)? Is there no way to sever a dynamic link once it's made?
Bruce Watson

Um.... didn't work. Seems that AE and PPro have different ideas of what "transparency" mean. The lower thirds composition in AE has a transparent (black) background which works fine in AE (I've used this lower thirds quite a bit in AE so I know it works pretty well), but when I import it into PPro it shows as white, and is completely opaque. Lettering doesn't show up either (but the letters are white so that's not such a surprise given the background), but the motion is still there. None-the-less, either way I tried it (copy and paste, or export from AE as a PPro project, then import it in PPro and drag the AE built sequence to the timeline) didn't work.
Trying to export just the lower third comp from AE through dynamic link as a PPro project didn't work either. Failed weirdly. It popped up the right sequence creation box in PPro, so I could pick AVCHD 1080p30 as the sequence type (matching the other sequences in the project), and created the new sequence with the correct name. But the sequence was empty. It wouldn't let me drag the lower third sequence anywhere either, so I couldn't put it on a timeline.
Sigh... this isn't supposed to be this difficult. But hey, if it was easy anyone could do it, yes?

Problem: Encore Timeline Audio Sound Vanishes from Dynamic Link to PPro CS4
I have several several PPro CS 4 projects each with a couple sequences.
In Encore CS4, I make dynamic links to the sequences using
Adobe Dynamic Link | Import Premiere Pro Sequence ...
In Encore, I create the Timelines for the Sequences from the dynamic links.
In the Encore Timeline for each sequence, each Timeline initially plays the video and audio correctly.
However, should I make any minor edits in Premiere (via edit original in Encore) like changing a title's text and re-rendering the PPro sequence, the Encore Timeline plays the video fine, but there is no audio (the audio track is there, but no audio sound occurs). The Encore dynamic link is untranscoded.
The following do not make the Encore Timeline audio track audible.
    Update markers from source.
Clean database button for PPro and Encore.
Deleting the media Cache and Media Cache Files folders.
    Deleting the Encore Cache folder.
The only way which seems to fix the audio is to delete the Encore Timeline and generate a new Timeline from the dynamic link. Of course, this means relinking the end actions for the buttons and timelines which is a pain and defeats the purpose of using dynamic links.
I have been using dynamic links without audio problems for quite awhile without a problem. Now this problem appears in many projects. Thanks in advance.

Haven't seen a post from the OP since this one.
I cannot directly answer, but here's some info.
From a variety of users comments, and my limited experience with CS4 and significant experience wiht CS5, there were improvements in CS5.
The number one issue when users find no audio in DL situations is not waiting for conforming.  Look at the progress bar and wait till done.
You are more likely to see DL audio problems using files in Premeire that are not as easy for Encore (e.g. mp3).

  • Dynamic Link Problem beim Batchencoden???

Operator error. Answered my own question. I haven't used Dynamic Link much. It works fine. I was momentarily confusing the import of a PP project vs. a Dynamic Linked Sequence.

  • CS4 Dynamic Link Problem

Is anybody having trouble keeping the source files linked in After Effects after using dynamic link from Premiere?
    Please refer to this link:
    cwrig, "CS4 Dynamic Link Problem" #1, 26 Oct 2008 1:02 pm
    This is very frustrating.
    Thanks for your time!

Did some more tests and here is what does and doesn't work for me.
    Losing footage -
Yes I was having the issue (and the topic is in the premiere forum also)
Here is what seems to solve it.
It loses the footage if I use the original folder which has spaces in the name. Not sure if that is the culprit but both methods proved consistent in every test I did.
it worked when I used a new folder called "Test" at the root of my editing drive.
    Crashing-
Not sure if other have the issue but when I close AE, PPro will just sit there with an hour glass and show as not responding.
If I close PPro first and then AE and reopen PPro then all seems to work as it is supposed to.
This was also consistent in every test I did.

  • Help!  Anyone using Dynamic Link to PPro with success?

I follow the docs precisely, open new multitrack, go to dynamic link, open Ppro sequence, and it shows video only--no waveforms. Audio does play, but now waveforms appear in the audio track. What am I missing? To do any serious editing, I need to see the waveforms! Thanks in advance.

buraihan, thank you for putting me straight on this.  It is so easy to
fall into the trap that if things aren't working it must be the
installation.  Then you go to a lot of trouble to reinstall and then
    end up messing everything up.
Yes I had studied the relative help pdfs including the link you
quote.  The fact that it tells you to open a multitrack file is so
    deceiving but the last sentence:
'To edit or process the video, use Adobe Premiere Pro or After
    Effects.'
does rather give the truth away.
I suppose Soundbooth is only really useful if you are adding say a
music track to an already finished video sequence rather than tidying
up your audio in the sequence itself.  I'll stick to doing it in
Premiere and I suppose if wav files need a little extra from
Soundbooth you have to do it a clip at a time - suppose that's ok.
I'm pretty new to video editing (although I have very many years of
computer experience).  I am doing video demos for my site
angelakane.co.uk  Any workflow suggestion would be helpful although I
am learning a lot by just doing it - I'm not in the movie business.  I
do want good sound though.  My youngest son is a talented film maker
and he uses Final Cut, Logic and Pro Tools so I don't get much
sympathy - says Soundbooth is a waste of time!
Thanks again, especially for responding so quickly.

  • Work flow? How to link multi-cam sequences for DVD output?

    Pr cs4 (very new)
Still taking baby steps each day... please take my hand and help me!
Final output will be 2 DVD's (each DL) each about 2 hrs. Content are chamber music student groups in two recitals.
I have assets from two camera angles. I have successfully practiced on one of the groups performance (10 min.) following the steps illustrated in a multi-cam tutorial.  http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/video_workshop/?id=vid0234
This leaves me with a great multi-cam sequence for that group located in the Project Panel, exactly what I want.
Now, I want to know what is the best method (workflow?) to ultimately produce a DVD containing about 10 of these type performances (one after the other) with chapter markings for each group, titles etc.?
I have yet to use Encore and I'm guessing that is where I'll send the finished edit for DVD production, though I don't know at what step I jump there?
Do I try to create one very long multi cam sequence of all the content, then send to Encore? Or can I create seperate multi-cam sequences (each performance) then link them together, adding transitions and make the DVD? This would be my preference to keep things more manageable, especially with audio synching.
With my practice multi-cam sequence on the timeline, I tried to drag the same sequence from the Project Panel to the end of the timeline to simulate how this would work, but it does not add to the timeline as a clip would.
This is probably childs play for you pro's, but we were all baby's at one time...I just happen to still be one!
Thanks for your patience and advice,
    Kenny

Yes I did...now toss me a cookie please.
I am trying to quickly get up to speed in Pr CS4 to get this project completed. In the process, I'm trying to learn and understand the interface and correct terminology so as to make my questions intelligible to a community that posses vastly greater understanding than myself.
Is there anyone who can help with my main question at hand? Namely, how to go about creating a full length sequence (in the timeline) made via the nesting of synchronized multi-camera clips within a new "multi-cam sequence"?
As I said, I have completed a small test sequence in this fashion, nesting clips in a new sequence then using multi-cam monitor to record cuts. Now I need to add about 10 more of these together in a completed sequence to then send to DVD production.
    Is this intelligible?
    Thanks, Kenny

  • Massive problems with nested multi-cam sequences

    Hey all,
I'm absolutely pulling my hair out over some issues I'm having and hope somebody out there might have an answer.  I'm creating a short interview project, including interviews of two people individually, with two separate cameras and external sound capture.  My goal is to cut between their separate answers to each question.  For each interview I created a multi-cam sequence within its own timeline.  Then, in my master sequence, I used the source monitor to pull out the specific clips from each interview sequence which I wanted to include, and assembled them into the master timeline.
I'm having two difficulties.  First, for whatever reason, I'm experiencing audio glitching when the cuts between sequence clips occur.  The glitch is like an audio "scramble," lasts about a half second, plenty of time to be distracting and detract from the whole of the project.  There are no such audio glitches present when viewing the interview sequences specifically.  I had applied effects to the audio tracks both within the interview sequences and the master sequence.  I've since disabled every effect but the problem persists, and it is still present upon rendering the master timeline.  I have absolutely no idea what to do about this.
The second issue is more general.  I've got my media cache on an internal SSD, and I'm pulling my media from an internal HDD, with Premiere Installed on a different SSD with my operating system.  The two interview sequences play back wonderfully, no delays whatsoever.  The master timeline, however, with all the clips extracted from the interview sequences, plays slow as molasses.  It takes 10-15 seconds for the play head to even start moving once I click 'play', which has made this entire process excruciatingly difficult.  Is this a known issue?  Why would my performance be so completely degraded working with nested sequences?  Isn't everything referencing the exact same files?
Ugh, long night working on this.  Thank you for any help.

Well, I've come up with a terrible, but comical solution for the second issue which doesn't involve reworking anything.  It turns out that, upon launching premiere, I can play the master sequence with nested multi-cam sequences a grand total of ONCE with minimal delay.  If I stop the play through, then it will take 3-4 minutes to get the sequence playing again.  Of course, the Premiere decides to hang when I try to close it after playing this master timeline, so I'm finding that I can inch my way through this project by (1) launching premiere, (2) playing the master sequence, (3) make the edits I need, (4) forcibly crash Premiere, and (5) relaunch Premiere and repeat.  It's a terrible way to work, but the project is so close to completion that I'm willing to suffer through it.
As to issue 1, I've taken each offending clip, extending the audio track one or two frames in the beginning of each clip, and then use those frames to ramp the volume up from silent to 0db.  This seems to avoid the brief moment of distortion at the beginning.  Notably I did try your suggestion by going back to the original, source audio, but I was still getting the same issue.  My work-around is the only solution I've been able to come up with.

  • Multi Camera sequence went black (mostly)

So, I edited three separate multi camera sequences... They all looked great and I exported them through media encoder. When I went to look at my files one of the three had a really small file size and I noticed it was all black.
I went back into premeir pro cc and sure enough that multi cam seqence was all black as well (except about 3 seconds of footage right in the middle from two different cameras). Now when I go back to the original sequence  (not the nested multi cam) It is just fine so I know the clips are still linked into PP. Also, I can make a new multi cam sequence from the original and it is just fine as well.
I think PP just F'd up... and unless someone can tell me how to go back in the file save history or something I'm sunk because premier auto saved when I last closed it.  I'm seriously at a loss as to why this happened as it was just fine when I went to export it... or at least nearly immediately before.  Why is there 3 seconds of footage in the middle of all black 47min sequence? and that 3 seconds is from inside of a 10 minute clip on the original un nested sequence so It's not as if just one video file was showing up.
Okay, so more than figuring out what happened I want to move on with my life. Is there anyway to copy the edit points onto a brand new multi cam sequence?  Does anyone have any ideas what happened that I can undo?
    Thanks,
Okay, so this is weird.... so, the original un nested sequence was 1:30 hours with 45 minutes of unused audio at the beginning. When I made my nested sequence for multi cam editing I selected the last 45 minutes and nested that.  Everything functioned just fine, but somehow during export it took my multi cam sequence and added back in the 45 minutes of blank audio....so when I extended the multi cam sequence to 1:30 there was all my video... but my edits were all done on top of the audio. Seriously Stupid, and definitely a bug!!!
Is there any sort of file save history that I can revert to?

I accidentally found the auto-save folder which had 50+ versions of my project saved (thanks to no one, including Mark for pointing out that Premier Pro made new files each time it auto saved) And the issue is present in all of them, even back to a time when I am 100% positive I was working on the sequence inside of premier and it was displaying correctly.
So, that means that premier was not saving my file correctly, even though it was displaying correctly inside the program at that time. Then, when media encoder opened it for export the nested sequence was out of sync from the original, and today when I reopened it in premier it showed everything out of sync.
I'm using premier CC as a trial because I was considering upgrading from cs5 for the clip sync and increased features. Clip sync didn't work for my files so I had to use pluraleyes anyways and this bug I experienced today means that I lost 4hrs of work and 2 more hrs trying to figure out if I could recover my 4hrs of lost work.  Now, I have to re-edit and I'll definitely be doing it in CS5

  • Viewing multi-cam monitor for multi-cam sequences not on track 1

    Hi,
I just found out that the multi-cam monitor in the Program Monitor goes blank if the multi-cam sequence is not on track 1. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you in advance.

How do you toggle the track targeting so that you can see the multi-cam preview for two stacked multi-cam sequences? I'd like to cut between different takes and it'd be a pain to toggle every time. Final Cut Pro has no problem of doing this but it seems that Premiere is a little picky about track targeting. I attached an example of how the project would look like going through two takes of multi-cam sequences.

  • Issues with creating multi camera sequences

I'm using Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 and I’ve just started experimenting with multi camera sequences and have two problems, one I can work around, the other I can’t.
First, if I take a series of video clips, add a marker to each clip to identify the sync point, name the marker, and subsequently create a multi camera source sequence, the option to use the marker as the sync point is disabled.  If I leave the markers blank and don’t name them, it works.  Is this a bug or intended behaviour of the application?
Second, and more problematic for me; if I create a multi camera source sequence using two or more video clips, all of which have a stereo soundtrack except for one clip, and that single clip has a 5.1 soundtrack, I cannot seem to force the sequence to use the audio from only one of the clips with a stereo soundtrack.  Basically I want the audio to always originate from the first clip (camera 1) during the clip selection process.  I’ve selected the clips in the right order and ensured all other settings are correct, but the 5.1 clip always take precedence.
If all the video clips contain the same format of audio (in my case all stereo or all 5.1), I can select which clip becomes the default no problem, it’s only when a 5.1 clip is included in the source clips when all the others are stereo.  Is there a way to select the 5.1 clip and make it the (camera 1) audio source?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

I'm guessing the marker thing is by design.
For the audio, once the sequence is created, just Mute all the stereo tracks.

  • Multi-cam sequences not working right

Ok so I am working on this ballet and I have created multiple multi-camera edited sequences. I placed the edited multi-cam sequences all in a new sequence together and only one camera angle shows up. What am I doing wrong? And is there a limit on the number of sequences you should make that contain other sequences?

Personally, I like the workflow of taking each segment into Encore as its own timeline (as long as it was a logical unit to begin with - scene, musical number, etc.).  Use playlist to do a play all, and the "scenes" are already set.
Did you do the test I suggested with one sequence?  I just don't see how you could have the problem you had.  I just did a quick test; edited multicam sequence brought into a new sequence: I see the edited version.
Are you sure you are bringing in the edited sequence and not the original (multi-video track) version?

  • How to stabilize parts of a multi-cam sequence ?

I want to stabilize parts of a multi-cam-sequence. So I right-klick the clip to send it to Aftereffects. But this will end up in sending the whole multi-clip (two povs, 30 minutes of length).
How can I extract parts of the multi-cam-sequence I want to have stabilized?

Have you cut the clip each side before sending it?
You could try making a subclip..... though I haven't tried it so I don't know for sure that would work - it's worth trying through.
An alternative is to render the part of the clip to a file, stabilize that then use the replace footage to replace the footage on the multicam sequence.  This is more hassle, but at least you have an actual file that is stable rather than relying on dymanic linking (which has failed me a couple of times).

  • Render slow after neat video nested multi cam sequence

Guys this is silly, usually i am rendering like lightning, but after a really dark shoot i needed neat video which has saved my life but after creating a multi cam sequence every time i go back to change something in the synced sequence the whole timeline in the cs6 edit goes back to all red line after i have already rendered, then it needs rendering all over again after the changes, but because of the neat video and effects its taking days? help steve

Ye Jim your right i have just been thinking to make sure i apply all effects when im ready, yikesss.

  • Volume in multi cam sequences drastically lower than source clips

When I put a multi cam sequence into a new sequence the volume level is drastically lower than on the source clips.  Each source clip has 2 mono audio tracks instead of 1 stereo track.  Does that make a difference?
    Rex

Typically only A1 is used in the multicam cut, so yes the overall volume would be lower than with all audio tracks active.

  • Multi camera sequence after Speedgrade

I put a multi camera sequence together and it worked quite well, especially the sync based on audio.  I edited my timeline and sent it to Speedgrade.  When it came back from Speedgrade I found there were instances where I could no longer access my multiple angles.  In the multicam preview in my program window I can only see one camera where there should be two.  Some clips are fine but not sure why I can't access all the clips I need?

No there is no angle to change.  I've attached two clips, one that still shows two angles and one that only shows one even though both have two cameras in the original setup.  The preview mode in the project monitor shows neither.
Prior to the Speedgrade round trip they had all been visible.
