Dynamically generating and printing output from user input on pdf form
Hi Everyone,
I am consider the purchase of of Designer with the hopes of doing something really simple (and hopefully in a simple way)
I would like to present the user with a form which they will fill out. On clicking a "submit button", I would like to generate a letter and have it print out based on the information provided in this form (note, the user doesn't ever really even need to see the letter).
Would Designer be able to do something like this? I have been messing around with the trial version, so I am somewhat familiar with the scrip language. For instance, I am at the point where I would be able to get all the information, and generate the letter in HTML stored in a string object. But I wouldn't know what to do with this string to render and print it.

I have just downloaded the trial version of Acrobat 7. It appears that if you want to create a new form, it pretty much brings you to Designer... which is really fine by me.
I appreciate everyone telling me that it is doable, I'm still left with the problem of what I should actually do to do it! =)

Load a PDF and Print it Without User Seeing the PDF
I have a client who has a need to allow users via a web browser to print PDFs wihtout gaining direct access to them. Ignoring all the flaws in this logic , I am new to Flex and am having difficulty determining if this is possible. So, here are the details:
1) This is a web browser application.
2) The files reside on a server.
3) The user will view a list of available PDF files in their browser.
4) There will be a print icon next to each one.
5) When they click on the print icon we need to pull in the PDF from the server and initiate a print, all without the user seeing the PDF. So once they click the print icon the next thing they see is thier browser's print dialog box.
I have 1-4 done, I just need help with the most important one, #5.
So, can Flex (without AIR) load a PDF in without displaying it and print it?
I am using Flash Builder 4.6, if it matters.
Thanks in advance for any input.Well, that's going to be difficult. Before everything else, a silent printing in general, is not what Browser is all about. A print dialog is thrown by the browser when a user selects a print option. Same thing if an application is trying to print using built into it conventional methods of printing - you get Print dialog. It gets even harder if you want to print PDF files silently. You will need to make sure that a file is available to print in case it's generated on the fly. The following code will print your PDF without dialogs to a selected (var printer) printer:

As you notice, the file is on the local system. Or you can try printing over the network.
This code will be a part of a JS function in your html wrapper. You will call this function from Flex using ExternalInterface.
AcroRd32.exe is an Adobe free PDF reader. I would suggest starting from the end - have a file on the local system and working on everything esle.

my mac keeps freezing when i try and print anything from preview. any ideas as to what the issue is or how to fix it?

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -

How to update jTable from user input?
I create one jTable with 2 rows and 3 columns. the jtable colums contains deviceIP and Status. I am getting device IP from user input through jTextfield. so, when user enter IP and click add button, it must added in the jTable rows one by one.
how can I add it by user enter the IP. Also, I want to update the status column value by "UP" or "DOWN" by just getting string value from other function.
but, my problem is i need to update the correct IP status value to correct column (ie., I want to put IP 1(row 1) status to column 1 in status column list.
I don't know about jTable .

GRC AC 10:How to generate Access Rule? No output from User or Risk Analysis

We have done configuration of GRC AC 10, and uploaded files via
SoD rules -->Upload Rules
After that we generated SoD rules for Risk Id : B001 and B002
Now when we go to NWBC --> Reports & Analytics >Access Dashboards>Access Rule Library
The report shows (for Group Rule level : Action)
Number of Active rules : 0
Number of Disabled Rules : 0
Number of Functions : 151
Where as for Group Rule level : Action Risk
The report shows
Number of Active Risk : 42
Disabled risk : 161
Nmr. of functions : 151 .
When we perform Risk Analysis at User Level or Role Level, the output is empty !!!
Note: All the background jobs have run successfully.
Also the SoD files also have been uploaded successfully.
Will you please guide how can i activate the "rules" for the uploaded risk ??

For Risk ID B001functions are BS02 and BS11 if you open any one of them you can see system maintained as SAP BASIS which is SAP_BAS_LG (logical connector group).
Post installation you can check in SPRO>Governance, Risk and Compliance-> common Component---> integration framework-> maintain connector and connector types->select SAP and click Define connector Group.

Post this activity re generate SOD for B001 and then check for user level and role level analysis.

Generate and print data matrix code from a vi
Folks,
does anyone know how to code a string into a data matrix code? How can the code be printed most straightforward? Probably it's the best way to generate the code in an image or picture format and send it to the printer that way? The printer we are using is a barcode printer, not an usual laser printer. According to the specifications this printer is able to print data matrix codes. Unfortunately, the vendor of the printer wants the user to use the proprietary software and does not provide a LabVIEW driver.

Script to map default printer based on user input
Hello everyone,
Complete scripting noob here but I managed to cludge together a vb script (from various sources) that will remove all current printers and then add printers based on group membership. It can also add a default printer and if they have a local printer
make that default. All that works just fine, my problem is that we have very large floors with many printer clusters. Group membership for printers is by floor and I do not have the option to further define this (Also GPO is not an option as getting
our network group to deploy anything takes years so we need to go this route).
What I would need is something graphical (like an HTA) that when run it prompts the user to input which floor they are on, then it asks them which of the print clusters (on the floor they specified) is closest to them. It would then install all the
printers on the floor and make the default printer one from the print cluster they indicated (unless they have a local printer). I hope this make sense.
I think I have most of the pieces laid out but I don't know how to get the user prompts/GUI and then perform the correct mappings. Thank you in advanced!I agree with Bill. Using the correct method will be best. You network people will be more than happy to tell you what is set up and how to use it. You just need to ask your manager to get you in contact with them for a little parley.
If you are really insisting on a script then look in the repository. There are dozens of scripts that you can use and modify.
You should try to see this as a challenge to bring modern technology to your company. Approaching this kind of thing as a global IT challenge will usually get the attention of IT and they will usually take it seriously. You will likely learn
many things about the IT resources your company has.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear but I'm not asking anyone to write the script for me, as I said I have most of the parts working. My issue is getting the user input and getting the script to take the action I need it to (I can map the printers based on
AD group membership I really just need to prompt the user to select which one they want as default). My thoughts were to wrap a GUI around it but it's not needed.
I agree that GPO is the way to go but in State Government it takes an act of Congress to get anything done in the mean time I'm trying to get things done with the means available to me. -

I have a very strange problem with some of my clients. Sometimes they experience a huge delay between key pressed on keyboard and actual character printed on monitor. So there is a simple text item involved and when the user starts typing the delay could be two or even three seconds between user input (each character) and actual forms displaying it.
First I suspected network contention but I am not quite sure if there is any network traffic (client browser -> application server) involved while user is typing text into text item. Next I tried to monitor clients machine processes (like anti virus program) but no luck. I have also tried various JRE versions but again no luck.
I am using 11.1.2.1 version of forms with Mozilla and JRE 1.6.35 on client side.
Does anybody have/had similar experience? Any suggestion in helping resolving the issue appreciated.

The act of typing characters in a field occurs completly on the client - no network traffic at this point. Only when a field event occurs (navigation away from the item) will an event occur that would cause network communication between the client and the appilcation server.
Sometimes they experience a huge delay between key pressed on keyboard and actual character printed on monitor. I encountered something similar to this with a user once who complained about how slow the application ran on their computer. The slowness was intermitant and there was no apparent pattern. Like you, I looked at JRE and other things. Finally, told the user to call me when the slowness occured so I could come look at the computer while it was occuring. Turns out, the user had at least 30+ applications running at the same time. The workstation was running Windows XP with 2gb Ram. Looking at their system resources, there was no memory available and the pc was memory thrashing really bad. I had the user close all but the absolute necessary programs and our Forms application started responding quickly again. After a little user education - miraculously, the slowness problem went away. :)

Pull/Get Data/Value from User Input Window
I'm trying to do something that should be be quite basic for a programer, but unfortunately unfortunately being a designer I'm having a heck of a time with this. Having spent hours searching and trying different things I thought of posting the problem. I have the feeling I'm not the first designer struggling with this.
I'm trying to pull input data from a window and pass it on to a variable. In the script I do a couple of purge(), and I'm not sure if that will clear the user input values during the script, but this is thinking ahead...
I need values to do:

I'm creating an interface to save multiple file from a master file.
1. Set the bitmap conversion presets (res, screen type, shape, lpi, angle), for the desired chanels to export, set the pages in the book that will be produced, number of signatures, as well as pages per signature.
2. Create tiffs for every chanlel and move the chanel according to the presets tied to the signature the page belongs to in the book.
3. Reassemble the chanels into one file for viewning and use the tifs for print.
Total I will have:

Why am I doing all this? I'm working on a comic that will simulate a silver age comic book and I need the look of that time, with off registration plates. But I also need to see the final result of the shift and keep things constant for each plate as I'm working on the separate pages, so series of presets are a must for me.

}First, this is simpler and easier to read.
Second, this retrieves just the needed information, whether or not the id is in the database. Your way will get much much slower as more data goes into the database. My way, if there is an index on the id column, more data doesn;t slow it down very much.
I've also left some important points in comments.
No guarantees that there isn't a dumb typo in there; I didn't actually compile it, much less test it. It's at least close though...
