E=28 semget(20038,1,2047) (28: No space left on device) on Solaris 10

We are running 5 SAP ECC 6.0 systems on Solaris 10 with the project definitions configured as mentioned in note 724713.
Now after the fifth system was installed, we have problems to start all of the systems.
The error can occur for either of the systems and in dev_disp it would say:
ERROR => e=28 semget(20038,1,2047) (28: No space left on device) [semux.c      928]
ERROR => CCMS: SemInit failed  [alxxappl.c   610]
ERROR => CCMS: sAlInit: could not create/attach shared memory key 13 (rtc = 255) [alxx.c       1187]
Before the fifth system was installed, we didn't experience any problems.
Do we have to change the project definitions and if yes how?
We have defined 5 projects (each system) with the following values for each project:
SD2:200:SAP System SD2:orasd2,sd2adm::process.max-sem-nsems=(priv,2048,deny);project.max-sem-ids=(priv,1024,deny);project.max-shm-ids=(priv,256,deny);project.max-shm-memory=(priv,18446744073709551615,deny)
Best Regards
Walter

I have changed the project vith projmod it looks now like :
htudv# projects -l `projects -d sd2adm`
SD2
        projid : 200
        comment: "SAP System SD2"
        users  : orasd2
                 sd2adm
        groups : (none)
        attribs: process.max-sem-nsems=(priv,2048,deny)
                 project.max-sem-ids=(priv,1024,deny)
                 project.max-shm-ids=(priv,1024,deny)
                 project.max-shm-memory=(priv,18446744073709551615,deny)
htudv#
But when I start SD2 I still get:
ERROR => e=28 semget(20038,1,2047) (28: No space left on device) [semux.c      928]
ERROR => CCMS: SemInit failed  [alxxappl.c   610]
And what confuses me is that all the processes started under sd2adm I watched with
prctl -t privileged <pid> , have a value like
project.max-shm-ids
        privileged        128       -   deny   ???
Why not 1024 as defined in the project?

  • Compact Journal - RFEPOJ00 - Print List with hyperlinks not working ECC 5.0

    Hello,
Has anyone run into any issues with running the compact journal report and hyperlinks in 5.0?
I’m not getting the hyperlink functionality to work when I execute the job in the background and I have optical archiving box check. I have set up all the customizing and I can run the test report OACONTA2 report and successfully produce a printlist with hyperlinks. When I run the same process for RFEPOJ00 I get a printlist but without hyperlinks.  The same process works just fine in 4.7 or 4.6C.
I have found nothing in OSS
    Any Ideas?

    Dear Gustavo,
ERROR => e=28 semget(20554,1,2047) (28: No space left on device)
Shows some meaningful error message, check your profile parameters for both instance ... and your disk resources as well.
somthing should not be there for running both instances.
You posted in wrong forum brother. you can post this in Upgrade forum for better and quick reply.

Its a disk space problem , check for space  for your database mount point.
Also make sure you have maintained all OS parameter related to memory.
Revert in case any clarification is required.

  • Installing oracle 10g release 2 on spark solaris!! urgent help!

    hi guys!
Am installing oracle 10g r2 on spark sun solaris. I did install the software without any pb, but when installing the database using dbca, I have this errors.
    ORA-27154: post/wait create failed
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:semget failed with status: 28
ORA-27301: OS failure message: No space left on device
    ORA-27302: failure occurred at: sskgpcreates
Edited my kernel parameters and in the /etc/system file, ai've added
    set noexec_user_stack=1
    set semsys:seminfo_semmni=100
    set semsys:seminfo_semmns=1024
    set semsys:seminfo_semmsl=256
    set semsys:seminfo_semvmx=32767
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=10
Space aint an issue and dont know how to over come this error!
Should ai just install the db using scripts and run the neccessary .sql scripts instead of going through dbca?
    junior DBA in distress.

This appears to be because of low semaphores setting. Did you reboot your server after making the /etc/system parameter changes ?

  • Kernal parameter SEMMSL & SEMMNS

    Hi
We have 6 instances in a HP-UX box (B.11.11) , when i'm starting instances one by one, the last instance got failed to open, error in the alert reported is pasted below.
    ksedmp: internal or fatal error
    ORA-27154: post/wait create failed
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:semget failed with status: 28
ORA-27301: OS failure message: No space left on device
    ORA-27302: failure occurred at: sskgpsemsper
After going thru the serveral investigations i found the SEMMNS or SEMMSL kernal parameter value needs to be changed, Can anyone please come up with good suggestions to change the kernal parameter and its restriction or any associated kernal parameters also changed or is any memory or the hardware needs to be checked on this.
Can any good experts help me would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Venkat

I don't think it is going to be as easy as you hope.
The various parameters have interoperative affects on each other.
Another words, when you change one parameter, it affects another.
Anyway, on one of our HP-UX 11.11 boxes, with 12 Gb RAM and running 13 databases (v.9 and v.10), these are the memory settings in my system file.
    semmni 5120
    semmns 10240
    semmnu 4092
    shmmax 1573741824
    shmmni 512
There are some awesome pages on the HP site dealing with kernel parameters. You can drill down about every kernel parameter and read everything you ever wanted to know about them all. I used to have it bookmarked, but unfortunately I've lost the bookmark.
You can go to the following HP web page, and this might be a good start to search for more information about HP-UX kernel parameters (or just google it).

  • Solaris installation - ORA-27302

    Hi,
I was trying to install the Oracle Collaboration Suite on a Solaris box. During the Information storage, I got the following error in the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant:
    ORA-27302: failure occured at: skgpwreset1
ORA-27303: additional information: invalid shared ctx
    ORA-27146: post/wait initialization failed
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation: semget failed with status: 28
ORA-27301: OS Failure message: No space left on device.
    ORA-27302: failure occured at: sskgpsemsper.
The disk for Oracle is total 27 GB and still have 14 GB free space.
I have inserted the sample setting stated in the Table 2-19 to /etc/system and installed the patch clusters.
Anyone has any clue about this problem?

Most probably you have run out of 'inodes' - check the documentation for the kernel parameter settings like max open files, ulimit etc etc
    hope this helps
    Gavin This helps! Thanks Gavin!

    hi
i am runing Oracle 9i R2 on SunOS 5.9 , i tried to startup my database and it gives me this error:
    ORA-27154: post/wait create failed
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:semget failed with status: 28

i have no space problem in my server , i have another database running on the same server without any problem.
    any suggestions !!
    thanks in advanced..
    wisam

what are the effects of increasing the semmni and the semmnsMore memory (some KBs likely) allocated by the kernel.
and do i have to reboot the server ?!.Yes (from Oracle doc: If you change the settings, save the /etc/system file and restart the system.)
accually i have 4 databases in this server . does this make deferent ?From http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/A96167_01/pre.htm#CHDCEHBG
The SEMMNS parameter should be set to the sum of the PROCESSES parameter for each Oracle database, adding the largest one twice, and then adding an additional 10 for each database.

  • Problem starting second database

    Hello everybody,
after I was finally able to create a second database it won't

database fine and then tries to start the second. it then
    generates the following error messages:

I should have enough space on the diskdrive since there about 4.5
GB free diskspace for /export/home and 512 MB /tmp as swap.
    Any suggestions what to do?
    Best regards,

P.S.: I'm running Oracle under Solaris on a SunBlade 100

Try to add the extra parameters to the etc/system file listed
    below.
Remember to backup this file, if you wite something really
ridiculous here your system won't boot.
    etc/system snippet:
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100

    set semsys:seminfo_semmns=600
    set semsys:seminfo_semopm=100
    set semsys:seminfo_semvmx=32767
These are all values derived from the Oracle Docs.
We had some trouble having 2 Oracle instances running on a
single Netra T1 512Mb box, used as a Test DB and the additional
parameters in the next section were recommended to us from our
hosting partner. If anyone could comment on the validity of
these it would be greatly recommended.
