E17 Icon Selector Issue

Hey all,
I have searched for the answer to this to no avail.  If I missed something please direct me to the proper post.  That being said here's my question:
In the icon selector module in E17 via the settings panel, I cannot select a newly installed icon, only ones that have been there previous to the creation of my username.  If I delete my username and start a new one the newly installed icon will show up.  Icons are installed in ~/.icons & /usr/share/icons.  Any ideas?  I've never had this trouble in E17 before.  I tried fixing permissions to no avail.  I'm running E17 on Arch x86 3.0.0 installed from the standard e-svn and e17-extra-svn packages.  If I log in as root everything shows up.

FarmerF wrote:I have not had this problem so I am not sure how to fix it but ~./icons and /usr/share/icons should work. Make sure that the icons are in a subfolder of one of these folders and contain a valid  index.theme" file in the subdirectory. A quick search suggests that the easiest way to select another icon theme is to use an external tool (like LXAppearance). They might show up in E once you install them in this way.
Already tried that.  I've installed it every which way, including LXAppearance.  Might be an E bug.  It works in Bodhi Linux (another E distro if you're not familiar with it), hence why I thought it might also be something to do with GTK3 as Bodhi is GTK2 based (Ubuntu 10.04).  I'm going to create another user just for the heck of it and see if it fixes the problem.

• [solved] XFCE Dual monitor causes theme & icon, xconf issues

Hey all,
Here is the issue:
I have  sony svz13114gxx laptop with xfce4 DE, i just tried to hook up external vga monitor to laptop and everything configures right (no mirroring) with this run  in normal session:
xrandr --output eDP1 --mode 1920x1080
xrandr --newmode "1920x1200_60.00" 193.25 1920 2056 2256 2592 1200 1203 1209 1245 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA1 1920x1200_60.00
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1920x1200_60.00
xrandr --output VGA1 --left-of eDP1
Obviously when i reboot this is not persistent, so then i put this stuff in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
Option "monitor-eDP1" "eDP1"
Option "monitor-VGA1" "VGA1"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "VGA1"
Modeline "1920x1200_60.00" 193.25 1920 2056 2256 2592 1200 1203 1209 1245 -HSync +VSync
Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1200_60.00"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "eDP1"
Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1080"
Option "Primary" "true"
Option "Position" "1920 0"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "Intel Graphics"
Monitor "eDP1"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1920x1080"
EndSubSection
EndSection
This is where the problems start. On reboot Slim desktop manager seems to be stretched properly across the two monitors, but the I login and the display switches back to being mirrored, my xfce gtk2 theme is disabled in favor of somee default looking one, my icons are back to default, and none of my custom keyboard shorcuts work.
I can then use xrandr to get the displays in extended mode again, but the themes and icons etc do not revert. And on reboot, i have the same issue.
I have tried the  sourcing ~/.xprofile, ~/.xinitrc, and ~/.config.xfce4/xinitrc routes, putting the xrandr cammands above the exec lines and that doesn't even enable VGA1.

[ 1442.644]Hey all,
Here is the issue:
I have sony svz13114gxx laptop with xfce4 DE, i just tried to hook up external vga monitor to laptop and everything configures right with this run in normal session:
xrandr --output eDP1 --mode 1920x1080
xrandr --newmode "1920x1200_60.00" 193.25 1920 2056 2256 2592 1200 1203 1209 1245 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA1 1920x1200_60.00
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1920x1200_60.00
xrandr --output VGA1 --left-of eDP1
Obviously when i reboot this is not persistent, so then i put this stuff in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
Option "monitor-eDP1" "eDP1"
Option "monitor-VGA1" "VGA1"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "VGA1"
Modeline "1920x1200_60.00" 193.25 1920 2056 2256 2592 1200 1203 1209 1245 -HSync +VSync
Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1200_60.00"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "eDP1"
Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1080"
Option "Primary" "true"
Option "Position" "1920 0"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "Intel Graphics"
Monitor "eDP1"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1920x1080"
EndSubSection
EndSection
This is where the problems start. On reboot Slim desktop manager seems to be stretched properly across the two monitors, but the I login and the display switches back to being mirrored, my xfce gtk2 theme is disabled in favor of somee default looking one, my icons are back to default, and none of my custom keyboard shorcuts work.
I can then use xrandr to get the displays in extended mode again, but the themes and icons etc do not revert. And on reboot, i have the same issue.
I have tried the sourcing ~/.xprofile, ~/.xinitrc, and ~/.config.xfce4/xinitrc routes, putting the xrandr cammands above the exec lines and that doesn't even enable VGA1.
I have been to all these places

• Icon dragging issue

I've recently been trying to neaten up all of my files in finder, as I tend to just let everything pile up and be completely unorganized. I typically have two windows upon so I can drag and drop into the appropriate folder. I've recently been having an issue with the drag and drop where my files will drag and drop into the folder I want them to go to, but the thumbnail icons will remain on my screen. I can't click on the icons and I can use programs normally, but I can't seem to get rid of the icons unless I relaunch finder. It's super annoying to have to relaunch finder every single time this happens, and it seems to be a fairly recent development. I have OS X 10.9.3 and this started within the last month or so. Any way to fix this so I don't have to constantly relaunch finder?

The hanging problem may indeed not be related to the earlier problem - but it prevents us looking at the earlier one.
I reproduced the problem with nothing but Mail, Console and Activity Monitor running. I dropped a jpeg onto Mail in the Dock. There was about 3/4 of my 2GB RAM free, shown by Activity Monitor which I brought back to the front - the new Mail window obscured it. After a couple of seconds AM reported Mail not responding (but the beachball-of-death was already running) and SpinMonitor started up. Normally at this stage I would have killed it, but I let it run - and watched it eating RAM! Both RSize and Virtual Memory usage by Mail grew, and the green slice of the pie shrank as the yellow (active) slice grew, until after a couple of minutes there was no more green and the crash reporter took over.
I don't know that the crash report will be particularly relevant; the problem had started long before the crash. Anyway, I let it off to Apple. I have GPGMail installed, so I will see if the problem occurs after I pull out its mail bundle.

• Report Viewer icon rendering issue with web controls

Hi,
I have a sample application in ASP.NET 2.0 in which if I have a report viewer control in an aspx page and when I try to browse the page the report renders properly with all icons image also. But in the same application I am having a web user control that is having the report viewer control and I have added this control on another page. Now if I try to browse this page the report is rendered properly but the icon images are not displayed rather as 'X' is displayed indicating images are missing.
Thanks
Kajal

It sounds like the CrystalReportViewer control does not "agree" with the .NET control you are embedding it in. Can you be more specific with the exact steps to duplicate this issue? It would be helpful to know what controls you are using.
Viewing the source code will be helpful in your troubleshooting. You'll also want to review your IIS logs to see what error are popping up there. It could be that the gifs are being searched for in another location. You may need to make a copy of the crystalreportviewerxx directory in a new location.

• Icon View Issue

I am trying out the new Premiere Pro CS5.5 and I found an odd issue.  I like working in the Icon View when orginizing my media files.  In CS4 you could at will orginize your media anyway you wanted, i.e. row by row and move the rows up or down you could leave a gap in a row and put items after that and such.  In CS5.5, all you can do is put them end to end, you can't have spaces and they wrap around to the next row like a word doc.  To me this seems very inefficient.  Maybe this is a bug but the way it is, it is not very useful anymore!

Peter-
Other weird developments. While this is icon view is more of a nuissance than a problem it has shown some bugs in my system. Turns out I can access Icon view if I use Motion's window layout scheme but if I switch to mine the library window will freeze. I have thrown out my widow layouts and started fresh but it will not work. I was wondering if there are any other files I should trash other than the .plist file?
thanks

• File Icons display issue

I am using File.icon property to get the icon bitmap image of
a file.
File Icons are not displayed when the operating system
display property setting is in 16-bit color mode or 24-bit color
mode. When the display property setting is changed to 32-bit color
mode file icons is displayed.

Windows XP (SP2)
1 GB RAM
INTEL P4, 2.8 GHz Processor Speed.
AIR Runtime 1.1
Flash Player 9.0.115.
Can any one explain that is there any issue with Flash Player
or AIR runtime?

It sounds like it may be a bug, which you can report via

• Flash Builder 4.5.1 ViewMenuItem icons: scaling issues

When using icons in my menus, FB scales them if i try to change the height of each ViewMenuItem, resulting in horribly jagged icons. Why is this happening??.. The label looks good if i change the height. Everything looks good exept icons, why????
Max

Here's the solution:
The problem did not exist on an installation of Flash Builder on a spare MacBookPro.
On my main computer (the one with the Flash Builder issue) I uninstalled and reinstalled Flash Builder 4.5 (then updated to 4.5.1). Creating an iOS Mobile Application now creates the correct code.
I have no idea why it was creating dodgy code.
The only difference with the new Flash Builder install is that SourceMate 3.0 is not installed yet. Perhaps something had gone wrong in the Adobe Updater when going from 4.5 to 4.5.1, who know...all speculation...anyhow it works now!

• Icon Display Issue

I am having an issue where my icons display as if their contrast was too high. The background, dock, .jpgs and movies all display normally but all the icons look as if a white filter where in front of them.
What precipitated this problem was I ran an application that caused the contrast in Universal access to max out. I manually turned this down and everything else looks ok but the icons never went back to normal. It is only an issue on this account in my other accounts the icons display normally.
I have updated video drivers. I have restarted my machine. I have check all the display properties and they look ok (monitor is calibrated and is using millions of colors).
Is there some plist or set of preferences in a account that may control the display behavior of icons or items on the desktop? I am at a loss as to where I should proceed from here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

• Treeview datawindow with icon - performance issue

Hi all,
i have a treeview dw and have set the "use tree node icon" property with 2 different icons (bmp) at the first level (when the level is expanded or collapsed)
Then a different icon (ico) file is used for the second level
Unfortunately, this is causing a huge performance issue when i run the application.
If i disable the "use tree node icon" property, everything works fine.
Is there any known issues on the treeview dw with icons? any work around?
am using pb11.2
thanking you in advance,
-a

First question is which jdev version you are using?
I made a quick test and did not see a long busy state.
Run your app with -Djba.debugoutout=console as java option. You get more output in the log window, but may be some hint about what's going on.

• CS5 App Re-Organization & Icon Change Issues???

Just had a couple quick questions on how CS5 installs into the Applications folder on OSX 10.6.7...
1. I've notice that there's no order as to the organization of how the Adobe apps install. (e.g. folders & apps spread out all over the place instead of in one central CS5 folder/director) Not sure why there is no option in the install process to force all apps to install into one folder so everything is neat and tidy.
2. Secondly issue I've noticed is if after an install I attempt to re-organize by moving any of the scattered apps around into sub folders and/or change any of the app or folder icons to match what I'm using as a systemwide icon theme then the whole Adobe updating process gets messed up as the updater can't find the apps.
In the end if even attempt moving anything around I'm guaranteed to have to re-install & leave the various components of CS5 fall wherever it may fall. So right now I have a tidy Applications/Utilities folder with the exception being the scattered mess that is Adobe CS5. Is there any insight as to why this process is the way it is and/or if there are any workarounds?
Thanks for any insight.

Thanks Steve. I appreciate the speedy response with regards to the issue.
Yeah I've just learned to just accept to leave things where they are regardless of my UI OCD for the sake of keeping the update process smooth. Was just too annoying to deal with the updater failing even the package was there. Just figured I'd finally get a second opinion in writing so I could feel good about turing the blind eye. Lol.
Although I realize that there will always be the cross-platform factor of PC/Mac, for whatever reason after putting up with this disorganization through pretty much every version of CS on mac it just would make sense to me like a company that makes the vein of products that Adobe makes would at least by version CS5 been able to address this issue. Just seems weird that Adobe CS5 is the only applications package on the Mac platform that gets messed by simply changing an icon. To me it just seems logical that by centralizing thing that it would only help with the "share component" factor you alluded to.

• Finder freezing on folder display (icon draw issue)

I've got a weird issue with one computer. MacPro totally loaded (12-core, 16GB RAM, RAID card w/three drives as RAID5). Fast as anything as you might expect.
Problem is with the Finder freezing when opening folders. It can happen with any folder, but it's inconsistent. Computer is used by a photographer so most images are image files (jpeg, tiff, Canon raw). I suspect the issue is with icon drawing and/or some cache related to that. I have, however, seen this happen with folders that contain nothing but other folders.
Specifically, the user will open a folder. The Finder will begin to draw its icon previews. Most of the time no problem. Some of the time the Finder will freeze midway through the drawing (some icons remain as generic icons at time of freeze). Activity Monitor says Finder is at 2400%, which is a bit startling unto itself. Only way out is to restart the Finder.
To test, I wrote an AppleScript which opens and closes a large series of folders (roughly 50 different folders). I'm able to duplicate the problem using this script. It's a different folder each time, and one interesting thing is if the script makes it through all 50 folders fine once, it'll do it fine forever until the next reboot (I stopped it at 2000 runs on two occasions). I can post the script if anyone is curious.
The system is pretty clean, Photoshop and a few other regular apps, nothing tricky. I cleaned all the caches with Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner. I repeated the test with a freshly created user on the same system, with the same results. Repaired permissions, ran DiskWarrior, etc. Ran the extended hardware test from the OS DVD, no trouble.
I thought it might be a Quicklook think, but I don't see any third-party plugins at all.
I have not done an OS reinstall, as I'd like to actually solve this problem. If I run out of ideas I'll do that.
Looking for any thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks,
Mitch

I believe I've solved this problem. Disabling the processor's hyperthreading was the solution.
To do this, I issued this command in the Terminal:
sudo nvram SMT=0
then immediate rebooted.
Finder hasn't frozen since. I've rebooted and run my test script several times.
Looks like Hyperthreading is an issue in many circumstances, including specifically the preview of large TIFF files. There's a developer tool called Processor.prefpane (installed with XCode) which can temporarily disable it. That's how I determined it was the cause. The above terminal command is permanent (the prefpane's settings reset to default after reboot).
I'll update here if I run across additional information.

• Application Explorer icon location issue

I'm in the process of building new images (XP Pro SP3) that include
ZENworks Agent v7.0.1.4 (to address some policy application issues we're
experiencing).
After imaging a machine, the Application Explorer icon is being
positioned on the right-hand side of the desktop. This differs from
7.0.1.0, for which the Application Explorer icon adheres to the "align
to grid" setting and happily lines up with all other desktop icons on
the left-hand side of the desktop. This is an issue as our background
bitmap contains a logo/image and other info in the 400 pixels on the
right... the Application Explorer icon gets lost if it's on that side.
Note that there are no app object icons on the desktop and there are
only 15 icons in total for the particular user I'm logged in as (incl.
the Application Explorer, Recycle Bin, IE and WMP) - 11 icons reside in
the users redirected desktop folder. I've done a side-by-side image
build with Agent v7.0.1.0 and v7.0.1.4 - no other changes. This only
happens with with the newer agent. The agent was installed fresh in both
cases - not updated.
Thoughts? This is holding up image development at this point.
What I have observed is:
-login as my non-volatile test user, app explorer is on the right (I can
do this repeatedly and it stays on the right)
-logout and temporarily move the users icons from the users redirected
Desktop
-login and App Explorer tucks itself nicely under the IE icon on the
left... *but* I first see the icon appear on the right before it's
magically repositioned on the left!
-logout and put the icons back in the users redirected Desktop
-login and App Explorer remains on the left!
I'm imaging two machines right now so I can do some more side-by-side
testing... hopefully identify something...

After my recent download of OS X Yosemite, iTunes quit opening through clicking the icon or clicking on songs. I am able to open iTunes after revealing the iTunes package contents and clicking on the terminal file.  Any suggestions on how to fix this issue.  I have reinstalled iTunes several times and have also reinstalled Yosemite, but neither of those fixes the issue.  I have also repaired all disk permissions and verified my disk.

• Icon tray issue, maybe related to power gauge

Dear Community,
I have a 1 month old ThinkPad L540 with Windows 7 Pro SP 1 with Power Manager 6.64.4.
My icon tray is  not shown correct, it seems that a part of the tray is shown twice, see the image below:
I tried disabling the power gauge (which i actually do not want), which did not solve the problem. Then it copied the first part of the standard icon tray. It does seem that it is related to power manager, however. But I am not sure about that. The copied part of the icon tray is unresponsive.
If i for some reason unlock the taskbar and tries to resize the icon tray area, it only gets worse. If I make it bigger, it just copies the icon tray again and again.
Any ideas? fixes? It's only aesthetic, but it annoys me like crazy!

Hi Vkgundersen,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
We understood that your query is about battery charging indication on ThinkPad L540.
Regarding this issue right click on taskbar and go to Toolbars and un-tick Power Manager, and proceed the same step to tick it, check if the issue still persist.
Please check the below snapshot to perform it.
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
Hope this helps.
