E3000 - connectivity issues/questions

For the past few days, I've been experiencing a few different problems with my E3000 Router.  The first one is a general question that I'm not finding an answer to, the 2nd and 3rd may be related.
First - How do I change the network name that the Router came with?  If I understand correctly, this is a random preset name that all E3000s come with.  Mine happened to be "TinyFish".  I've already changed the router name and everything in the Linksys control panel area... but that default name persists.  I see it when I connect to the network on my home wired PC.
Second/Third -
In the last three days, when I come home and turn my PC on, I log in, and it hangs on the "Welcome" screen.  I can fix this easily by hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL, and opening something like the Task manager.  This seems to have started when the following began...
... I have to reset my router every day now.  I turn on the PC, and I am connected to the router, but not to the internet.  I can fix this by unplugging the router and plugging it back in, or going into the router and renewing my IP with my ISP.
The "welcome" hang seems to be related to not having internet access... I don't think that's a separate problem.  It's not even explorer.exe that's hanging. CTRL-ALT-DEL, and bam, right to the desktop with no sluggishness or lag.
Any thoughts?

for your first inquiry, are you referring to the wireless network name or the SSID? you may easily change it by accessing the router setup page. make sure you use a wired computer when doing this.

• E3000 Connection issues. - Overheating?

Hi all, I have a E3000 hardwired to 2 pc's and then several devices connected wirelessly (ps3, wii, iphone, printer).  The router is connected to a surfboard motorola cable modem.
After about 1 week of using the router, I started streaming music from my pc to my ps3 last night.   After about 2 hours of this the router dropped all wireless connections and hardwired internet connections.  If I reset the router it will start back up and work fine for about 15  minutes, and then the same thing.  I have tested the cable modem directly to my pc and it works fine for days straight.
Only thing I've noticed is that the router is pretty hot.  If I put a fan on it it doesn't drop connections and seems to work fine.  Seriously am I supposed to put a fan on this thing full time?  It's sitting on an open shelf under an AC duct with the temp set at 78 in the room, so it's not a ventilation or ambient heat issue.  Whats the deal here, andy feedback?
Key points:
1. It's not a wireless network issue.  With no devices connected it will drop my hardwired pc
2. it's not a cable modem issue.
3. It only seems to work if a fan is on it.

I had an issue with a WRT610N dropping the Internet signal every half hour. The Internet stayed down for about 2 - 3 minutes, then came back on again. I got some ping monitoring software and charted the signal losses. Every half hour, 24/7, it dropped the signal. It was a Version 1 router so I upgraded the firmware. It kept dropping every half hour.
I connected directly to the modem, bypassing the router - no signal loss.Checked cables, no problem with them.
So I figure, had it for two years, maybe it went bad. Fine; I go get an E3000. Runs fine for 2 days; I think great, problem solved. But just three hours ago, it started again. Every half hour, the signal drops for 2 - 3 minutes.
This is getting me enraged with frustration. This absolutely should NEVER happen. I go searching on the net and find this ZD-net article -
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/perlow/cisco-hot-router-check-it-and-see/14451
Then I read cnet reviews and it confirms the gist of the article - the router is overheating, and it results in it dropping the signal!!

• E3000 connection issue

I have a cisco cable modem connected to Time Warner, and an e3000.   I try to network all my stuff, but it seems that once a week internet access gets lost...and not knowing why I re-boot the pc's and router..today could not get out of the router...hardwired a laptop to the cable modem and it was fine, but once connected to the router - no  internet...seems to happen with increasing regularity...
I use the router wireless for laptops, iPhones, XBOX, PS3, iPad....I hardwire to the router  for a Vonage device, and a sling box device that ties to a remote slingbox receiver providing internet access to another PS3, TV, and DVR...everything works fine usually, but as mentioned ...it all tanks about 1x a week... could it have to do w/ a WD backup running weekly?
thanks

could also be overheating... where did you put your router by the way?  it needs enough ventillation in order to work fine.

• E3000 connectivity issues

Pages often fail to load on any wireless client on my network.  It almost seems like a name resolution problem.  I have no wired clients so I cannot speak to that, but I suspect the same problem because my printer is not accessible by its "name" anymore, but it is available by its IP address.  It seems like it is a DNS problem.  I have tried to fix it by changing the DNS provider in the router setup, but it doesn't seem to matter if use Google, OpenDNS, or my ISP's DNS - it just often tends to not work.
I'm stumped.  Do I have a defective router?  I have also tried reboots, and that doesn't fix it either.

It seems that wireless connection might be dropping.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable and try to access the Internet. If you face the same problem with the wired connection then Internet connection is dropping.
In this case bypass the router and connect the computer to the modem. Try to access the Internet directly through the modem and make sure that it is working properly through the modem.
If the wired connection is working fine then try changing some advanced wireless settings on the router. Open the setup page of the router and go to Wireless tab. Click on Advanced wireless settings. Change the beacon Interval to 75, RTS and Fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings.

• Linksys E3000 – WiFi Connectivity Issue

I usually have the 2.5GHz (B/G + WEP) and the 5.0 GHz (Mixed + WPA2-PSK) networks running. I have about two to three iPhones running on the 2.5GHz, one Laptop on the 5.0GHz and one desktop wired. Recently in the previous week I came across wireless issues on the E3000 Linksys Router when arriving home from work. My iPhone wasn’t connecting to the Network or my Laptop. It seemed as if the SSID wasn’t broadcasting. I went into the router and played around with it and didn’t find any issues with my user settings.
The router seems to broadcast the SSID for 2.5 & 5.0 sometimes [it disappears frequently] and when I’m able to attempt to connect it my iPhones plus my Laptop say “Unable to connect to network”. I’m not even connected to it wirelessly to manage the network. The desktop that is wired is able to connect stream internet across the modem though the router, this also goes when I wire my laptop as well.
I’ve made sure I have the latest Firmware: 1.0.04 & I’ve manually reset the router to factory defaults and still had the same connectivity issues. I’ve disabled the 2.5GHz broadcast and ran the 5GHz to make sure the connections weren’t conflicting with each other, which isn’t the case.
It seems I’m having broadcasting problems with the router and even resetting to factory settings aren’t working. I’ve noticed it’s not my devices that aren’t experiencing the issues because the iPhones and Laptop are having the same connectivity issue. My router is mounted to the wall and my modem is working perfectly.
Edit: The lights that are on & solid, during this problem is the Power + Internet + Wifi + Desktop(2)

I realize this is an old thread, but curious as to whether the firmware upgrade helped. My problem is similar, but a few things in my configuration changed over the past 2 weeks:
1) I added a new Roku HD wireless to my router (2 days ago)
2) I upgraded my broadband modem to the Comcast Arris TG862. I had them put this modem in bridge mode so that I could continue to use my E3000. (2 weeks ago).
3) I noticed that comcast created an open network on my TG862 called xfinity wifi. I turned this off (yesterday).  Comcast does have an option for it.
Starting yesterday (after I turned off the comcast open network, I began to have problems on my 2.5 Ghz band on my linksys router. Never had these problems before. The network disappears, then re-appears. Somtimes I can connect to it but it's only a matter of time before it disappears again. 5 Ghz seems solid.
Last night, as a test, I turned my xfinity wifi open network back on, and all of a sudden my 2.5 Ghz was rock solid (at least for about 5 hours). It then disappeared again.
I will try the router firmware upgrade, but wondering if the Arris 862 could have anything to do with this. I'm not sure I trust comcast - particularly after they played that nasty open network trick on me.
Thanks!
2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use http://www.metageek.net/support/metageek-software-archives/ to find out. How many?
I prefer not to use Arris branded modems or modems with built in routers. I recommend that you check to see if you can get into a Motorola SB 6141 or similar modem model that is stand alone. Comcast support Motorola modems I believe.
I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For cable Internet, RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.
Thank you for the suggestions. Security is WPA2/PSK. This has not changed.
A few questions. With regard to your last paragraph, even if I got a bad data flow from the ISP modem, I would still expect my router to be visible (or am I mistaken). I think, in the past, I've completely turned off my ISP modem and I could still see my router - just had no internet connection.
I'll look for other wifi routers - it just seems so darn coincidental with turning off that xfinity open wifi. I've always noticed other wifi signals in the area, I didn't actually notice any new ones (other than that silly xfinity one).
One thing I did do, I did remove an AP I had connected to the router when I set up the Roku because it seemed like it was un-necessary once I switched to the Arris modem. I just disconnected it... should it be degrown or something?
Thanks!

• Multiple Internet Connection Issues

Hi there, long time reader first time poster.
I figured I should post this as, while having read through hundreds of similar posts I still can't figure out how to solve my connectivity issues.
I just bought a new iMac 21.5 inch 3.2Ghz i3 model and while I am happy with the machine overall, it is the second one in a month - the first had a faulty ethernet port and refused to connect to the internet out of the box. Apple replaced it without question - almost as if they knew.
The replacement has now seemingly developed the same issue.
Some background info. The computer was connected both through ethernet and through the TC I bought to back it up until yesterday. So I was getting both a wireless signal from the TC and one through ethernet.
I have a hub that has 5 devices connected to it ( Printer, Cable TV, iMac and TC - now a PS3 ) That hub is served a signal by a simple NTT modem connected to a phone line. That modem is now nearly 5 years old but has always given great net speeds so I don't believe the problem to be the modem - I could be wrong though.
I just bought a PS3 and tried connecting it yesterday but had multiple problems. Despite me entering the correct PPPoE information to the letter, the PS3 refused to connect, saying the password and username was incorrect. I could connect it via a Bluetooth signal but no hard wired connection would work.
So I unplugged everything from the hub, shut down all the machines, turned off the modem and let it sit for 10 minutes and then plugged the ethernet cable from the PS3 straight into the modem, giving it a direct line. Switched on modem, rebooted PS3 and tried again - this time it connected through ethernet. I still don't know how or why. I can guess but I'm sure you guys know much more about this than I do.
So then I tried connecting the iMac back to the net, reconnected all the hub, followed the same procedure. Off, sit for a bit, on etc. This time the PS3 has no connection and now the iMac has no connection either!
The TC gave a green light though so I was able to get wireless. I tried removing all net locations from the iMac, installing new ones, renewed the DHCP lease, but no matter what I did (PPPoE info 100% correct) it just refused to establish a connection.
The the bloody TC light flashed amber and I couldn't get wireless either despite being plugged into the hub and getting a signal! The PS3 is now working and the cable is fine so I am starting to think either I have cluster ****** the whole setup or something is wrong with the iMac.
I go away for an hour then come back and the stupid TC has somehow picked up a connection! The light is green again?! But now the time connected display is scrolling repeatedly. I've got net but what the **** is wrong with all this?
Bottom line - not ethernet connection for the iMac but TC seems to be working and all other devices have a connection.
Please help me if you can! I just can't figure any of this out.

Your description is a bit confusing, but I use English as a second language, so it may be just me.
1. How is the hub connecting to your modem, by ethernet cable or wirelessly?
2. Which device is negotiating the internet connection with your ISP, the modem?
3. Does the device that negotiates the connection use PPPoE?
4. How are the other devices being handed their internet connection? DHCP only?
Only one device should be connecting directly to your ISP using the PPPoE protocol and configured with your account username and password. This device is preferably the modem. This device should be configured to hand out internal IP addresses to the other devices on your LAN using DHCP. All of the other devices should be configured to request an IP from that device, whether by ethernet or wi-fi, just with DHCP.

• HP Slate 21 Pro: WiFi connection issues

Hi,
I recently ordered two HP Slate 21 Pro devices. Unfortunately, both of them have WiFi connection issues. After some time the properly configured WiFi connection will be dropped, which results in connectionless devices. The WiFi AP is disabled after this, and so a timed reconnect will not succeed.
After inspecting the Logcat I found following lines:

Thanks in advance,
Christian

That really shouldn't affect it.
I'm a little stumped because I haven't seen this issue with this device before. The only similar issue I found was this, and it's unresolved.
Have you tried doing a hard reboot of the Slate 21?

• Fed up with speed and connection issues since exch...

Last Monday BT done some upgrade work at our local exchange.  From that point onwards we have had speed and connection issues.
I use a Belkin G Router rather that the Homehub some that we can run a printer through it and that is plugged in to telephone socket via an extension.  But before we blame any of that we have gone back to the Homehub2 so we could see the difference and there is very little.
We live in the countrside so broadband speeds are not great in any case.  About 1.8 mg I guess but we have always had no problems.  It was good enough for us and we could watch Iplayer.
I was getting fed up with drop outs and speed and yestereday an Openreach guy came out tested everything could not find any problems apart from speed.  He made some calls and was told our band width had been capped.  He had that removed and yesterday evening speed was a bit better.
Today just as bad again.

Hi Welcome to the forums
Your high noise margin  will have a major impact  on your speed
If you post the full stats from your router
For homehub – type 192.168.1.254 into your browser
Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right of the home page and scroll down to ADSL Settings and click on it
Click on More Details and then post the full results.
also post the full results from http://speedtester.bt.com/
Have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the master socket
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
also you could try the hints given by poster RogerB in this link they may help http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-in-Home/Poor-Broadband-speed/m-p/14217#M8397

• How can I circumvent this connection issue due to closed-lid mode?

I recently purchased a new Samsung monitor and have narrowed down the deficient connectivity to the fact that the Wi-Fi antennae is located at the "MacBook Pro" area of my computer's monitor. I own a late 2009, 2.26 GHz MacBook Pro connected to a 2011 AirPort Extreme Base Station. Resetting the router and searching for the ideal channel still keeps my connection at a slow crawl when the lid is closed. I'm posting this question to see if there any developments in solvin this connection issue and whether or not there is anything I can do before purchasing an external antennae. Any and all help and greatly appreciated!

I've had the same problem, everything was o.k. when lid is open but when I connect it to external monitor and close the lid, wifi signal is very week or there was no signal at all. I tried moving macbook all over the room and nothing helped, untill I tried to open the lid just a little so that macbook monitor stays off, immediately my wifi signal was normal again, strong as it is when I'm using it whit lid open.
I hope it will help you to.

• IChat video connection issue, not related to router

I received a brand new 20" iMac Core 2 Duo just yesterday and intended to use iChat AV to video conference with my girlfriend, who has a 12" iBook G4 1.2GHz with an iSight and all system software up-to-date.
We both have DSL connections at home. We also both have wireless routers. The very first time we tried a video conference, it worked perfectly without a hiccup and everything just looked and sounded wonderful. At the time, she was connected wirelessly and I was connected both wirelessly and through Ethernet to my router's local network.
The second time we tried it (only a few hours later), seemingly without having changed any settings, it failed to work, and hasn't worked since. At first, we would get Error -22, saying something about how bandwidth is insufficient to maintain a video conference. However, I do not believe bandwidth is the real issue since all other network/internet tasks on both ends are spiffy as usual. We also both tried turning off Airport and just connecting through Ethernet to our routers' local network. Same problem.
To then determine if the problem was with one our routers, we both set them aside and plugged our DSL modems directly into our computers and connected to the internet with PPPoE. This appears to partially fix the problem: we are able to initiate a video conference, we both have audio, I can see her, but she can't see me; sort of a one-sided conference. On my screen, the image of myself freezes as soon as the conference is initiated. So unless I'm missing something, the ultimate cause of this problem doesn't appear to be the routers.
You can bet I tried a bunch of the common tips mentioned in this discussion forum before posting this question, such as changing the iChat port in the preferences, turning off Firewalls in the Sharing preferences and changing Quicktime streaming speed.
In summary, it worked once and hasn't worked since, and routers do not appear to be the cause of the issue. Does anyone have any further advice for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
iMac 20" Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

First off I want to thank James for his willingness to help me test connections today. James has suggested I check into upping my Mother's connection. I will definitely look into that.
I wanted to update the thread that I tried the three test accounts at Apple (appleu3test01-3) and had success from all three on my home computer via my wireless configuration no less. This is what stumps me about my connection issues with my Mother - we can both connect to others but between us we get error -8's since iChat 3. I also find it odd that this is happening even though we are both Earthlink customers - I would chalk it up to routing tables or something if we were on different ISP's.

• T420 internet connection issues

I'm probably over complicating this situation, since I know little about computers, but here it is.
My T420's hard drive became a victim of the "Click of death," and I had to buy a replacement. I installed Windows 7 and I now experience connection issues. I'm assuming I have to install drivers, and I'm clueless there.

welcome to the community.
sorry you're having issues.
if you post your machine type (from sticker on bottom; don't post s/n), we can probably get you pointed in the right direction.
a question to clarify... how did you install windows and which version?
edited to add: follow-up... i believe the link below is for the wired nic in your machine. pick the 32 or 64 bit version as appropriate. once you can get on-line, you may be able to run thinkvantage system update (if it's installed) to get any other needed drivers.

• Connectivity Issues Cisco ASA 5515 in Transparent Mode

Hi,
we´re having problems with one transparent mode setup at one customer site. The ASA is equiped with a CX Module, but we´re not using it, so far in the service policy rules it was enabled and matched all traffic, but in "monitor only" mode. There is a global acl that allows any-any-IP.
Firewall-Info:
- ASA Version 9.1(2)
- Interfaces gi0/0 + gi0/2 without any interface errors
The ASA 5515x is configured as a "bump in the wire". In general our setup is working but with beginning of the installation of the firewall the customer faces following connection issues, without the firewall no problems:
- Connections to SAP-Servers behind the MPLS begin to drop, affected all users
- Incoming monitoring sessions (ping/snmp) from central management are facing ping timeouts, connection timeouts
- http downloads are stopping, Customer: it will stop responding and the download will fail.
In general the customer describes it this way: "We do not have the best connection here so once we connected the firewall all the problems are magnified"
I recognized, that we unconfigured the default inspection during initial setup and reconfigured this entry for the cx module. So the the default inspection with all the settings are not present any more... How important are these settings? One phenomen is, that I´ve seen a large numbers of concurrent connections that increased over time. And we already had that situation, that the firewall reached the max-conn count.
Should I try to reconfigure the default inspection, as it ships from factory? And whats the best way to check for problems? What can be the reason for the dropping connections?
I attached a network plan and the firewall config, hopefully, that somebody has an idea. Of course I can provide additional information...
Best Regards
Sebastian

Hi Vibhor,
thanks for your reply. Does this also affect the traffic, even the setting is set to "Monitor Only" ?
Is it recommend to configure the default-inspection rule as a default setting?
Further Question: I´ve read sth. about, that service policy rules must be "reloaded" to take effect, after they have been changed. Is that right and how do I reload them?
Here is an output from sh asp drop, do I have to care about certain values? This values result from two connected users doing some downloads over a 2Mbit connection.
ciscoasa# show asp drop
Frame drop:
      Invalid encapsulation (invalid-encap)                                       10

• SSRS/SharePoint Migration 2010 to 2013 connection issues

We are currently attempting to move our SharePoint 2010 to 2013 and SSRS Information. The first attempt at this we were unable to get SSRS to show up in Central Admin. We decided to rebuild all servers and re-installed everything.
This time we have SSRS showing up in Central admin and we are able to run some reports from our sites now. In our 2010 environment we are using "Windows authentication (integrated) or Sharepoint user" option with SharePoint Lists. I am unable to
get this to work in our 2013 Environment, the stored credentials with windows authentication will work however.
I have read t through many different books, MS Guides, Blogs, Forums, etc but unable to solve this issue.
I have tried editing the rsreportserver.config to match our Production, did not help. (also tried different authentications)
I found an article saying to change the "Forms" Auth in some config files to "Windows" did not help
When I try to go to our \\localserver\reportserver (appserver) I get a blank page with this info:
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: Microsoft-IIS/8.5
Date: Fri, 21 Nov 2014 22:30:03 GMT
Connection: close
I have tried going into Central Admin -> General Application Settings -> Report Server Integration. and fill out this information also but receive this error:
Failed to establish connection with report server. Verify the server URL is correct or review ULS logs for more information. Product area: SQL Server Reporting Services, Category: Configuration
Pages
I am not sure if I have missed some step along the way of migrating and setting up this information. Any help or other things to try would be very helpful.
Thanks!

Hi young99,
According to your description, you get connection issue after migration from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013. Right?
In this scenario, we are not clear how you did the migration. Please follow these steps and check if you miss anything:
Restore Reporting Services encryption keys
Backup the SharePoint content databases and detach it.
Backup Reporting Services catalog database.
Copy Reporting Services configuration files.
Restore SharePoint Content databases to the new farm.
Restore the Reporting Servicesencryption keys.
Restore the SQL database that is the Reporting Services catalog database (ReportServer).
Restore Reporting Services configuration files.
Create a new Reporting Services service application.
For more information, please see:
Migrate a Reporting Services Installation (SharePoint Mode)
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

• Exchange Server 2013 Service Pack Upgrade - Outlook connectivity issue

Hi,
After upgrading to Exchange Server 2013 service pack 1, we are unable to connect via Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013. Outlook Web Access is working fine though. We have followed all the instructions, and have applied Outlook upgrades, but the issue remain the
same. Outlook was working fine before the upgrade.
Have we missed out something. I would highly appreciate if someone can help out? I'm not sure if this is the known issue as I can't seem to find anything on the internet.
Already applied the transport fix.
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
According to your description, your Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 come across the connectivity issue.
To narrow down the issue, I’d like to recommend the following troubleshooting:
1. Check if the issue happens on all Outlook users
2. Check the Outlook Anywhere connectivity by using ExRCA:
https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/
Additionally, MAPI over HTTP is only supported when you use Outlook 2013 sp1 and Exchange 2013 sp1 at the same time. Since the issue also happens on Outlook 2010 client, we can firstly try the above troubleshooting.
If you have any question , please feel free to let me know.
Thanks,
Angela Shi
