E4200 - Okay router, setup issues

I chose this router over the Netgear N750 because of previous bad experience with their customer support and over the Asus RT-N56U b/c of a compatibility issue with a specific application.
The Cisco Connect Software is very poor software. No OSX Lion support so I could not use my Mac for setup and it could not even detect the router on a wired connection on a Windows 7 PC through a simple Dell unmanaged switch. Even the router setup software built into Windows had no problem with that. I had to rely on manual setup which was straightforward.
Range was mostly adequate for me with both 2.4 and 5 Ghz over 5,000 sq. ft. of indoor space with no direct line of sight, through many walls, multiple floors, and the outside patio also, although with a few connected devices I found the 5 Ghz band somewhat unreliable at times. Wired gigabit performance was good enough for my purposes.
Overall a decent router, not bad, not great.

It seems like you are using an outdated version of Cisco Connect Software… There is a new release of the Cisco Connect Software that supports Mac OS X (10.7 "Lion")… So you need to download the latest Cisco Connect from the Cisco Website (homesupport.cisco.com) or you can use this link: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/E4200 ... After downloading you need  to set the router to factory defaults, power cycle the whole network and then run the Cisco Connect that you downloaded…

  • Router setup issue, another linksys in close proximity

Hi, I'm having trouble setting up an older BEFW11S4 Wireless-B router. I used to have it working intermittently, it would always randomly drop out and sometimes take forever to reconnect. Tonight I couldn't even see the network anymore so I decided to reset the router and start over. The problem is that I live in a condo with numerous other networks, one is an unsecured default linksys network. When I go on line to make changes, it connects to the 'other' network. How do I connecto to my own router?
    Thanks...

Doesn't look good? I don't know anything about this stuff really, but I'd assume that means it isn't transmitting as it should be. My computer tells me that it is connected with excellent signal strength, but obviously won't connect to the internet???? I appreciate the feedback

  • DNS Router & Server Setup Issues

I'm running a Mac OS X Server on my local network. I have a D-Link 655 router that connects the machines and conencts to the internet.
I'd like to use OS X Server's DNS instead of my ISP's. In the D-Link Router I've set the DNS to the OSX server in the WAN section. Unfortunately it doesn't allow my clients on the network to connect to the internet when I do this.
If I set the DNS on the client to the OS X server it works fine. Or if I set the DNS on the router to my ISP's (or Google's) it works fine too.
Is this a route configuration issue? Or is this an OS X Server issue?
Any thoughts on how I might figure out where the problem lies and how to solve it?
    Thanks in advance

Your DHCP server needs to pass out the IP address of your DNS server (only).
In general, you should not include any references your ISP DNS servers anywhere on your network.  Not in your DHCP server, not in your clients, and not as a forwarder within your own DNS server configuration.
When you make the change, renew the leases of the devices that have the old address if needed, and alter the hard-set DNS server settings in the devices that don't use DHCP.
The one sort-of exception to this: your DNS server should have its Network settings DNS server address set as 127.0.0.1; as the localhost address.  Not as its IP address.
And in general, routers don't do DNS.  (Though it's common for folks to refer to devices that provide routing, NAT firewall, potentially VPN servers and other services as a "router", technically routers don't typically include DNS services.  And very few gateway devices - even the fancy ones and expensive ones - implement DNS services.)  Routers (and particularly the usual sorts of network gateways) can generallty have a DNS configuration for two reasons; to forward DNS requests to an upstream DNS server(s), and to have a DNS server address for an embedded DHCP server to pass out to DHCP clients.
In your particular case, the IP network connectivity is very likely present in both of your test configurations, it's that your clients aren't getting DNS translations.
Probably more than you ever cared to learn about setting up DNS services on OS X Server.

  • WRT54GS router setup page won't display most text

So I bought a new Linksys WRT54GS v6 wireless router yesterday, and I was able to set it up to share my DSL line, but when I went to the router setup page (192.168.1.1), it wouldn't display most text. It displays text in the entry boxes, but there are no links or other text on the page. I took a screenshot which can be seen here: http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/3390/routersetuppagemc1.jpg
Does anyone know what I can do to solve this issue?

Hey Merugo. I was having the same problem with the router settings screen refusing to load for my WRT54G. Do you happen to have v.5 of the router? After digging around in the help files on the site, I found this for firmware recovery for the WRT54G v.5 and it fixed the problem I was having once it loaded the updated .bin. Blank screen be gone.
    http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3176
(The first time the router tried to load the new .bin it timed out. And the second time it installed correctly though it didn't display "Upgrade Success" like it's apparently supposed to.)
Hope this can maybe help you since it fixed things for me.Message Edited by Res on 10-03-200606:44 PM

  • WRT160N v3: Cannot connect to router setup web page with current Firefox or IE

Every time I try to connect to the admin page of my router, I get "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."  This happens with FIrefox 11, and started when I upgraded to 8 or 9.  A machine running FF 3.6 does not exhibit this problem; I get right in.  What IE 9 says is "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" (after complaining about the expired certificate).
I ran Wireshark to see if I could learn anything, but all I could figure out was this:
    https handshake was OK.
First TLS packet is received by router, which then immediately issues a reset and ends the connection.  I don't know why.
Has anyone seen this? or have I got a screwed up configuration (or router)?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    castor wrote:
"The connection has timed out", seems to affect servers at MozilllaZine, for Firefox on Windows...
I'm not sure what this has to do with my problem; my difficulty is only in trying to talk to the router configuration page.  Everything else works just fine.
    ~~ Tools > Options
~~ Advanced (tab) -> Network (tab) > "Setting"
~~ (X) Auto-detect proxy setting for this network
I have "use system proxy settings".  Since this is a home network and I'm not using a software proxy on my machine, I know there is nothing between me and the router.
Second, let me know if you have enabled 'https' in the router management page. What is the IP address on the computer when connected to the router. To check the IP address that you are getting from the Router... You can check the IP address in the following manner:
    # Click on Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt.
    # A black pop up box should come up, type: "ipconfig /all" …
This is not going the right direction, but to satisfy your curiosity:
       IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.244.122.142(Preferred)
       Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
       Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.244.122.1
       DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.244.122.1
These are correct. (Since my telco DSL has me behind its own NAT router and has assigned my modem address 192.168.1.2, so I could not use Cisco/Linksys's manufacturer default address settings.)
There check the IP address and Default Gateway under LAN….
If it provides the valid IP address then try to connect the router to a different computer and then try to open the router setup page...
I have a linux virtual host (thanks to VMware) now running Firefox 5, and it can talk to the router setup page just fine, once I accept and save the invalid certificate the router presents, at https://10.244.122.1.  So I conclude the problem is to do with the later version of Firefox (currently 11, but I had this problem with 10 and maybe with 8 and 9).

  • WRT310N Setup issues after firmware update and factory reset

    Hi Everyone,
I recently updated my firmware to v2 on my WRT310N and found that I could no longer connect my PC to my router.  Whenever I run the setup software that came with the router it goes through all the steps but errors out when it looks for the router.  I think the error number I am getting is 322.
I tried to reset the router to the factory defaults, but I am still having the same issues.
When I plug my Cable modem directly into my PC I have no issues and have full internet connectivity.  I have tried to navigate manually to the 192.168.1.1 to do a manual setup of the router but I can't get to the router main page.
I'm running windows XP SP3 and I had no issues up until I did the firmware upgrade.  I can't think of what I am doing wrong and am stuck.
    Any thoughts?

Make sure that the cable modem is connected to the Internet port of the router. Your computer should be connected to one of the 4 Ethernet ports on the router. If your computer is connected to the port 1 of the router then port 1 light on the router will lit up. Also make sure that the Power light on the router is steady and not flashing. If the power light on the router is flashing then try to reset and power cycle the router again.
Once the power light on the router is steady then check the IP address of the computer.
Go to Start >> Click Run >> Type cmd and click Ok. You will get the command prompt window opened. In the command prompt type ipconfig and hit Enter on your keyboard. You will see the IP address of your computer. The IP address of the computer will be like 192.168.1.xxx and Default gateway will be 192.168.1.1.
Now open the Internet browser and in the address bar type the number 192.168.1.1.
It will ask you to enter the User name and password for the router. Leave the user name blank and in the password type admin. It will open the Linksys router setup page.
Under the setup tab you will find Mac address Clone sub-tab.  Enable the MAC addres clone and click on the button Clone my PC's MAC. Save the changes. Try to access the Internet on your main computer.
If not able to access the Internet then unplug the power cable to the router and modem. Plug in the power to the modem first. Wait for a minute and then plug in the power to the router. Try to access the Internet.
Once your main computer is able to go on line then you can change the wireless settings of the router.

  • EA6500 & Cloud Connect Setup Issue

    Hey Ladies and Gentlemen:
I need your assistance.  I have a weird problem and maybe you can throw some pointers my way.  I purchased an EA6500 yesterday to replace my EA4500 on home network.  I used cloud connect with NO issues on my EA4500.  When I got home, removed the EA4500 in my network and installed the EA6500.  I go through the usual beginning setup using 192.168.1.1 and from this point the router or cloud connect seems to lock up.  It asks me if I want to use my cloud connect account, I enter my email and password.  The next page is an authenticate or link the new router so it asks for the router password which is "admin."  The unit at this point locks up and will no go any further.  If I try to go back using another browser and access the page, the it no longer access the router.  What gives.  I thought it may be a defective router, but this is the second.  I spent 4 hours on the phone with linksys/cisco support with NO HELP.  I am running windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with IE10, Chrome, and Mozilla.  Same thing on all browsers and 3 different computers.
    Any suggestions would be great.

I believe the installation got messed-up, I suggest you do the manual set up instead if re-running the set up wizard will still not work. First though, reset the router by pressing the reset button for 30sec, wait for the power light to start flashing before releasing it. Check on the links below for the manual configuration instructions if you have cable or DSL internet service as well as the set up instructions with the wizard.

I have an Airport Extreme as my router and am using time capsule to extend the network in my new house. My ISP is only providing me 4-5 ip addresses and wants me to set up my router to issue out new ip addresses for all my devices. How do I fix this?Help.
They said I need to change my settings to NAT settings. I haven't been able to figure out or find anything. I have also spoken to Apple Support on the phone for hours without being able to figure out how to do this ( i don't think he knew much either lol.) Please help me because I've got about 15-20 devices in my house that require to be connected to the internet and this is just making things ridiculously slow and painful for me.
    Thanks!

It is on DHCP & NAT under router mode yet my isp is still the one issuing ip addresses to my devices instead of the router issuing them

  • Can't connect to router setup page

    Hi,
I have a WRT54G wireless router, version 2.1. It's been working fine for the last 3 years and suddenly the WLAN light is out and there's no communication between router & computer. I've tried resetting it (via reset button, and unplugging power) a million times with no results. A techie thought maybe I needed a firmware upgrade -- which I've downloaded, but now I still have to access the setup page to install it, which seems to be impossible. The 192.168.1.1 page won't come up at all. (And when I went into the command prompt, it said my Default Gateway was 207.237.223.1 -- which, of course, I've tried, but that won't come up either.) I've turned off firewalls and antivirus programs, thinking they might be the problem -- still nothing. Any suggestions/advice would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks in advance!
    TrevorNYC

You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • Setup issue in oracle projects - classifications link(standard link) is missing in oracle projects page

    Hi Team,
I have a setup  issue in oracle projects
I am unable to find the classifications link in oracle projects page.
Navigation : Go to any projects responsibility-->search for the projects-->click on project -->click on setup Tab : At the bottom of the page, we can see some standard links along with UDA's.
Here one standard link Classifications is missing.
Can anybody guide me what setup we need to do get the link.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
The classifications link is not appearing in your Project's Setup page because, Classifications must have been unchecked in the Project template from which your project has been created. You can find the Project template information by clicking on the Additional Information link in the same Project -setup page. Once you check the classification flag in the concerned Project Template, all future Project creations made out of this template would have the link enabled.
But for the current project, classification link cannot be enabled.
    Rgds,
    Shan

  • Router Setup Web form display problem

When I open Internet Explorer 6 to my router setup page (192.168.1.1), the menus and control discriptions are missing. Internet explorer reports an error with processing some of the web scripts. I'm using: WRT54G V8. I have tried reseting the router but it does not fix the problem. I have tried using the Opera Browser but it has the same problem. Unfortunately, I can't attach a screen capture to this post. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, mm

I did some playing around and found that in "Save Mode" the setup web form displays properly. So I upgraded the router firmware in Save Mode, rebooted and now the setup form displays fine in regular mode. I should note that I also re-installed ZoneAlarms (firewall application). Thanks, mm

  • Odd speed dial setup issue

I am getting an odd speed dial setup issue.  Here are the steps:
    1. Open speed dial setup screen
    2. Tap an open slot
    3. Search for a contact using the keyboard
    4. Click on the contact to select it
If I do it that way, I am taken back to the speed dial setup screen, but the contact is NOT added to the slot.
On the other hand, if in step #3, I just scroll down the list of contacts and select a contact, it works just fine.  Seems to be an issue with the search function.  Anyone else have this problem?

I'm using EA4500 in an no Internet connecting wireless network.
So the classic firmware and classic router setup software are the best for me.
But, Where are the download links for the both two gone in EA4500 support page?
the GREAT Google tell me he find one named Rolling back the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router Firmware to the Classic web interface on Linksys knowledge base. And on this page they mentioned "NOTE:  You may also need to download the Classic Router Setup Software to set up the router after the rollback".
BUT, the GREAT Linksys, CAN YOU TELL ME WHERE YOU HIDE YOUR "classic router setup software" download link please.

Sorry, the link you show me on that page is the Classic Router firmware (non- Linksys Smart Wi-Fi) EA4500 version 2.0.37 (Build 131047). I have downloaded it and got it worked in my EA4500.
What I asked is the old style Classic Router Setup Software(Cisco Connect Setup Software for PC) that can work with version 2.0.37 Firmware, the one on EA4500 support page EA Series Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Setup Software for PC
10/31/2012 Ver.2.0.12304.0 can't work with Classic router firmware!

  • Talisman web-router setup

I have a WRT54G v. 2.2, and through previous experiences I realised that I have to first clone my MAC address in order for the router to connect to  the internet.
However, when i put in 192.168.1.1 into my web browser, and put in my user name and password: which turns out both to be 'admin'. it comes out with Talisman web-router setup instead of linksys?
is that supposed to happen? because whatever this talisman router is, I can't clone my MAC add or make any changes
    Thank you

    hi!
who is your ISP (Internet Sevice Provider) ?
hmmm fyi...The 192.168.1.1 is the default local IP Address of the wrt54g Router.
another question..is the computer plugged into the router's ethernet port?? and is there anything plugged into the router's internet port?? if there is then make sure that that device is not using the 192.168.1.1.
