E6 still a good solution coming from E61i?

With the new corporate contract I will need also a new device, my beautiful E61i it's probably too slow for corporate email and also the earphone doesn't work anymore.
Since I use my phone also as notepad I prefer to have a physical keyboard, but the choice on current phones its in fact limited to BB Q10/Q5.
I don't have many needs, just email, a lot of notes, calendar with also tasks, possibly Skype/GTalk/Rebtel app.
E6 it's old but can be a effective replacement? Symbian Anna is stable? The hardware does have problems?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I recently bought a Blackberry Q10 to replace my E6.
I am not particularly impressed with the Q10. Despite it's very nice overall user interface the BB10 operating system is surprisingly dumbed down and lacking in a wide range of functionality and user option we have taken for granted on Symbian all these years. BB10 is in some respects a backward step but the hardware power of the Q10 over the two year old E6 punches through.
Both the Q10 and E6 have their advantages when it comes to their keypads. The Q10 wins with a slightly larger keypad than the E6 but to me the E6 has a much nicer, more positive feeling keypad to use. I prefer the lay out of the E6 over the Q10 too.
The near total lack of control over network connections on the Blackberry Q10 compared to Symbian on the E6 means that although it has a higher capacity battery than the E6, the always on nature of wifi or high speed packet data means I get less battery life than the E6 for the same usage patterns.
I still pick my E6 up when I know in advance I will be using navigation/maps software. Nokia Maps is a class leader and really shows up Blackberry maps as being utterly pathetic. I woould pay good money for Nokia Maps/Here on Blackberry
For general use the E6 still has a lot going for it but there are occasions where it's age and fairly limited software availability will be apparent.
I do a lot of mobile internet browsing and it is mainly the excellent Blackberry browser that keeps me with the Blackberry for now but unless the situation improves with BB10's functionality and user option and control I'm going to be looking for something else soon and that will obviously mean giving up a physical key pad.

  • Songs from the same album appearing as coming from different albums

I am having trouble grouping multiple songs into one album. In my iTunes, there are songs from the same album that are appearing as from separate albums. For some reason, it is only happening in rare cases. It has randomly split The Roots' album How I Got Over into 3 separate albums, and it has split every Outkast song into individual albums.
And yes, I have already tried the basic steps of selecting all the songs I want to group, and editing their info together. I have done this, and ticked every box in the info fields so they will be identical. Yet they are still appearing as songs coming from separate albums.
Does anyone know what I can do? (I am using the current version of iTunes -- v9.2.0.61)

Actually there is something else, more for the purists though.
Some albums will have "featured" artists and they will be stuck into another part of the tag, but by doing that iTunes thinks it's another artist and treats it as a different album. A good fix that I use is to remove the featured artist and ammend it to the track name. So: "When You're Gone (feat. Mel C)" Is the actual track name instead of "When you're Gone" and the artist being "Mel C" and the album artist being "Bryan Adams". Make sense?
By turning it into a compilation it will change where it appears on your iPod or whatever, basically it will be grouped with all other compilations, not where the artist should be.

When I send a text from my iPad, it shows that it comes from my email address.  If I then text that same someone from my iPhone it still shows as if its coming from my iPad.  How do I stop this?

On your iPhone, go to Settings -> Messages -> Receive At -> Caller ID and make sure the phone number is selected - this will cause new messages sent from your iPhone to appear to come from your iPhone phone number.
(I actually prefer to have my email selected, so that when I message someone from my iPhone and they reply, it goes to both my iPhone and iPad)
Also, when you send a message from your iPhone, make sure you're not replying within an existing conversation (that was created on your iPad and linked to your email). Just start a new conversation (even if it's to the same person) by going to the Messages app, going back to "Messages" (top left corner) if you're already looking at a conversation, and then clicking the Compose icon in the top right.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • The internet coming from my AirPort Extreme, which is extended by an AirPort Express and my Time Capsule, is being very flaky. It is dropping and I have to reconnect every few minutes. Any solutions?

To be more detailed, my AirPort Extreme needs to be extended by an AirPort Express, which then is extended to my personal Time Capsule. The internet drops on my MacBook Pro and other MacBook Pros randomly. We then reconnect with no problem and go on with what we were doing. The internet is fine. Always able to connect. We have Open DNS set up as well. But the flaky internet is annoying. Any ideas how to fix this?

The primary issue that you will need to contend with is the distance between routers. 300' would be at the fringe of the signal coming from the base station located in the house which, most likely, make it too "weak" to extend/repeat with the second base station at the shop.
There is a method to configure a relay base station between them in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS), but a WDS has two major drawbacks: 1) It can only operate in the 802.11g Radio Mode, and 2) For every base station participating in the WDS, the overall bandwidth will be cut in half .., so with a total of three (main, relay, & remote), the maximum of 54 Mbps (for 802.11g) would be more like 15-17 Mbps. If you plan on streaming HD video (either 720p or 1080p), your local wireless network may not have enough bandwidth to do so successfully.
You proposal to run the DSL line to the shop does offer another option. Instead of running a DSL line, run an Ethernet cable between the house and the shop. You would connect one end to any of the available LAN ports on the AirPort Extreme to the Ethernet port on the AirPort Express. You can then configure both base stations into a roaming network and not have bandwidth loss of the WDS.

  • SIP- h323 in a AS5850 - Not able to send h323 calls coming from a SIP Phone

    Dear All!
I have an AS5850 configured as a SIP Gateway and as a H323 Gateway. I'm planning to use this equipment as an interconnection point between PSTN,SIP and H323.
I already have a functional H323 Network with ISDN trunks to the pstn and it is working fine. I added SIP configuration to the AS5850 in order to be able to route calls out to the PSTN or H323 remote ends coming from a SIP Phone registered with a third-party SIP Proxy.
When the calls coming from the SIP Phone goes to a PSTN destination the calls completes properly, but i am having problems trying to send calls coming from the SIP phone to a remote h323 gateway(also cisco)
Attached is my configuration and the error i'm getting in my cdr. It seems that the "ext" number of the phone is being used as destination string in the last call leg, but i'm not sure.

    Thanks.
Attached you can find the debug ccsip messages output.

    There are 2 solutions here.
    1. Use of SIP/H.323 Signalling Gateway as the protocol convertor. Search google will yield heaps of hits on this subject. Product available both commercial and open source, trial, etc. Using this method means that the SIP End Point will communicate with H.323 End Point without going out the PSTN. I believe this is what you want to achieve in the long term. You are trying the AS5xxx as the protocol convertor for you, which it will not work. A call flow will be something like SIP IP Phone->SIP Server->SIP-to-H.323 Gateway->H.323 Gatekeeper->H.323 End Point. Of couse there is a SIP server that do the protocol convertor in the same box but the functionality is the still the same. Performance and concurrent call setup differ from products to products. Going for this solution would require you to find such products and test it on the your network.
    2. If you do not wish to try on Soluton 1, this solution is a workaround way by not getting device but using the existing equipment that you have right now. Onto whether this good long term solution for depends on what you want to achieve both in term of commercially and technically. A call flow will be SIP End Point->SIP Server->Voice Gateway (AS5xxx)->PSTN Switch(ISDN/PRI)->Voice Gateway->H.323 Gatekeeper>H.323 End Point. The key is the Voice session must traverse the ISDN link. In other words your dial pattern must be setup is such as way that will go out thru the dial peer pots to pstn switch then come back to another dial-peer pots. I am not saying this is the most efficient way of doing it, I merely suggesting a workable way to achieve your desired goal without soluton 1.
Hopes you get better understanding now.
    Thanks

  • Beeping noise coming from internal sound board

there is a strange beeping noise coming from internal sound board. it doesnt matter if the volume is all the way down it still happens. the noise happens most ten times an hour and it is just one loud beep. took it to geek squad and they couldnt explain. so why is it making this noise?

This beeping plagued me for months and months, driving me insane.  I tried to find a solution on the Internet; however, all I found were many people complaining about this random beeping noise from their HP laptops.  A couple of times the beeping stopped for a few days, but then it would come back.   But almost three months ago it stopped for good (I hope)!  I didn't do anything--it just stopped.  WEIRD.  But you might find this link helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svvZ70_H2wM&feature=email&email=comment_reply_received

  • My Mac Pro Experience (coming from PowerBook)

Hey All, I recently bought Apple's new power horse, and I thought I'd share my initial experience using it.
    A little background
For the last few years I've been using a PowerBook G4 as my primary computer. I was about to buy a PowerMac when Apple made the announcement that they were going Intel, so I decided to put off a new computer purchase until they came out with the Intel-based PowerMac. When they finally came out with the machine a couple weeks ago, at first I was going to wait a month or two, giving time for any first-rev issues to surface. But turns out that's a lot easier said than done--on Saturday, after Flash froze up on me for the 3rd time that day, I ran to the Apple Store to get my Mac Pro.
    Usage
I got the standard configuration and have since added a 160gb HDD for Windows from NewEgg and a another gb of memory from Crucial. Looking forward the plan is to go up to 4gb of memory, get ATI's Radeon X1900 XT when the Mac edition comes out, and grab a 500gb backup HDD.
To migrate my data over, I decided not to use the Migration Assistant as I didn't want to move any preferences or system files for apps I've uninstalled, etc.. So instead I just hooked up an ethernet cable between the computers. First I moved my apps, then my email, then my iTunes libraray, then all other files in my Desktop, Documents, Music, Photos, and Sites. I was already using .Mac syncing for my Bookmarks, Calendars, Contacts and Keychains, so that part was easy-- just enabled syncing.
Coming from a PowerBook, this thing is ridiculously fast. All these little things that took several seconds to load on my PowerBook are now instantaneous (loading Dashboard widgets for the first time after boot, for example). I have not noticed a performance hit running non-universal apps under Rosetta, however before I got more memory, the system's memory usage would almost max out when I was using Photoshop, so that extra 1GB definitely makes a difference there. One thing that's exciting about this computer is knowing it's only going to get faster as more applications become universal, Mac OS X Leopard comes out and has better 64-bit support, and as I add more RAM.
It's also very quiet. The new Xeons don't run very hot, and with the aid of a heatsink that spans the entire width of the machine on top of it, the fans are barely audible. The loudest part about it is the hard drive.
Boot Camp installation was just as easy as all the articles say. Windows runs pretty well on it– it lasted a full hour before crashing! I installed a program called MacDrive (www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive6) that enables Windows to access Mac-formatted hard drives. One thing that's worth a mention about MacDrive is that you have the option of making those drives read-only, so if I get some crazy worm or virus or whatever, it won't stand a chance corrupting any of my important data on the OS X drive.
But the main reason I installed Windows was for the games. While I was sleeping I had Steam download and install Half-Life 2. This morning I opened it up to check the performance. It's not bad at all–-with a 1680x1050 resolution (native 20" Cinema Display res), the recommended video settings were as follows:
    - model detail: high
    - texture detail: high
    - shader detail: high
    - water detail: reflect world (of options: basic reflection, reflect world, reflect all)
    - shadow dtail: high
    - color correction - disabled
    - antialiasing mode: none (of options: none, 2x, 4x, 8x)
    - filtering mode: trilinear (of options: bilinear, trilinear, anisotropic 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x)
    - wait for vertical sync: disabled
    - high dynamic range - full
The high dynamic range capability is particularly exciting to me because my gaming pc crashed every time I tried playing The Lost Coast, Valve's high dynamic range demo level. So, not bad at all.
    Annoyances
Big thing here is the lack of the wireless module. Unless I want to span a cable across my room, I need wireless internet. A temporary solution to this is I have my PowerBook sharing its wireless connection with the Mac Pro over ethernet.
Not all Mac applications work on it yet, due to the x86 64-bit architecture. So far the programs I have tried to run that won't include Parallels (basically a VirtualPC for Intel Macs), Cisco VPN Client, and MySQL Administrator. The iStat Pro widget is also acting up.
On the Windows side, there are several things Apple could improve on. The biggest one here is the Eject key-- it will only open, but not close, the cd tray. If you have two optical drives installed, it will open both of them together (whereas on OS X it opens/closes the top one, and ALT+Eject opens/closes the bottom one).
With the exception of these minor inconveniences (which probably won't even be around a month from now) my experience has been completely positive. The only time I've had any sort of trouble was when I tried accessing a mounted drive that was no longer physically connected, forcing me to relaunch Finder, but this is a well-known issue that has nothing to do with the specific machine.
If you're thinking about getting a Mac Pro, my advice is to go for it.

Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

[iIt's good to finally read something positive in these MacPro discussions.
Bear in mind that this is a technical support forum where users get help for their technical issues rather than a "feel good about your purchase" forum.
As for the Mac Pro itself, from what I've seen it's a extremely stable system and relatively problem-free system. You might want to have a look in the MacBook forums for a comparison of the number of recurring issues. Only then will you appreciate how good the Mac Pro is.

  • Still waiting for a response from Adobe regarding the post "Printing a pdf from a marked-up pdf".

Still waiting for a response from Adobe regarding the post "Printing a pdf from a marked-up pdf" dated 15 Dec 2012 9:20 AM.

Look everyone that comes here with a support problems has gone through all the normal channels, around and  round in circles with no one seeming to be interested. They've called every phone number, every email address they can find. They have been put on hold and bounced fifty times to another operator only to be hung up on. If Adobe would bring back support to main land and have people that know what's going on instead of having people that people can barely understand read from scripts. Scripted information only applies about 10 % of the time. I'm just giving people an alternative. after they have torn their hair out going the normal route.  If they had been able to get a solution they wouldn't be coming here for help.
There should be a forum set up just for people to air these issues and Adobe employees forced to man it. Then we wouldn't have to have such a Bad attitude. Right now Adobe's Support reputation is worse than Intuit's which did have the absolutely worse on the Planet. Now they are number 2.
You know it yourself that Adobe's support is absolutely worse than terible. However to prevent me from being banned from the forums I will simply will provide the adobecare email address from now on
So let's sweep it under the rug.

  • Static coming from microphone

People I talk to on Skype claim to hear static coming from my end. I ran a test in Audacity and I could hear the static as well. The microphone I'm using is an MXL 990 and I'm using and Icicle Preamp (This thing) to connect the mic to my laptop through USB. Here are my specs. I'm copying over everything.

I've tried disabling my internal mic and that didn't work.  Before I got this laptop, I was using a laptop that had XP on it and it worked fine. I did spray febreeze in the room and on the mic so that everything would smell nice (I was trying to clean up the room).
What should I do? I've been having this problem for a while now and it's starting to get on my nerves. Thanks in advanced.

I've tried some solutions but I still have static. Perhaps I should rpovide more information.
The microphone I'm using is an MXL 990 with a pop filter and shock mount and I'm using and Icicle Preamp to connect the mic to my laptop through USB. My laptop runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and I used Skype 5.10 in conjunction with Pamela Call Recorder 4.8. I've tried disabling my internal mic and that didn't work. Before I received the Windows 7 laptop I'm currently using, I was using a Windows Vista laptop and it worked fine. I also used a Windows XP laptop and it worked fine I did spray Febreeze in the room and on the mic so that everything would smell nice, for I was trying to clean up the room. I tried using both my internal mic and another USB one and they worked fine. I also tried using a different USB cord to hook up my mic to my laptop and I was told there was static. I also tried turning down the volume of my preamp and it didn't fix the problem. Apparently my computer never installed the drivers that went with my preamp I'm using. It installed and I thought it would fix the problem but people could still hear static. The drivers that were installed were "USB Multi-Channel" and "Generic USB Audio."
I've uploaded a sample of the static in hopes of finding out what the problem is and how to fix it. The clip is a piece from a Skype call using the same tools as before.
