E72: scroll speed in email and web

Hi
pressing down to read emails or WWW pages in the default browser has:
- too long a delay till action
- too high a speed
is there anyway to change this ( what would otherwise be delay and repeat on a keyboard)?
tried changing this in the optical navi selection but to no avail

Hi pellicle,
If you find that the phone either responds too slow or too fast when you use it, a reinstallation of the software with Nokia Suite will most likely clear this up straight away.
Make sure you make a back up with Nokia Suite first by going to Tools > Back up. Don't tick the Settings box as this will backup the bug that's causing this. Now click on the green arrow in Nokia Suite to update or reinstall the current software to make sure you get rid of all possible bugs that are causing this issue.
If you're still experiencing the same issue you will have to hard reset the phone, though this is very unlikely. If this is necessary however, you can perform the reset by entering *#7370# into your phone. The default security code is 12345, unless you've changed this code yourself.
This will definitely clear up any bugs in your phone and make it work perfectly again.
Let me know how you get on!

  • Optimize performance for dedicated email and web use?

Just bought one of the new MBPs. I am now using the G4 as a dedicated workstation with an external monitor exclusively for email and surfing. Email performance is fine, but it takes a long time to load web pages. What can I do to tweak its performance?

Ah, I see you have a lot of catching up, and many questions.
You appear to be running OS10.4.11, which is fine. In the future, upgrades for bugs and security will diminish as Apple phases it out.
OS updates: Have Mac running and connected to the internet. Under the Apple menu, choose "Software Update." This connects to the Apple software servers and determines if you need any Apple software updates on your Mac. Follow instructions and do all updates it tells you about. After doing this, run Software Update again until it says all software is up to date.
Flash and Shockwave are software plug-ins that Adobe makes for your web browser (like Apple's Safari). These plugins are generally used to display animations or video in the browser. They tend to use a lot of CPU power, thus potentially slowing down the computer. You have to go to the Adobe site and check for the latest free versions of these plugins for your computer.
Java and Javascript are programming environments that can work with the OS to display various tricks on web pages, such as drop-down menus. Sometimes they cause security concerns, so the Preferences settings for web browsers allow turning them off or on. When running Safari, under the Safari menu column, choose Preferences..., then in the resulting preferences window, choose the Security tab. There are checkboxes for Web Content for Java, Javascript, plugins and popups. It would be faster and more secure to NOT run these, but you wouldn't see a lot of many web pages. Java is updated from Apple Software Update.
Many other general aspects of your computer affect speed.
-For best speed, you want as much RAM (memory) as the machine can take in your case (probably 2GB on 2 DIMMs IIRC). I run with 1GB however, and fine it adequate for email and web. Under the Apple menu, choose "About this Mac" and the resulting popup tells how much RAM you have.
-You want at least 10% of the space on the hard drive to be free - it's used for virtual memory when real memory runs low. Click once on the icon of the main hard drive, usually named, "Macintosh HD." Then under the FILE menu, choose "Get Info." The resulting popup describes, among other things, the total capacity of the drive, how much is available, and how much has already been used.
-For speed, you should also run from AC power pack. There are some settings in System Preferences/Energy Saver that can reduce CPU speed during battery operation.
-You should avoid running any software that steals CPU power. There should be no need to run tricky software for just email and web, so getting rid of all non-essential software should help. How to check everything is beyond the scope of this post.
-Check the speed of your internet connection. There are several free, online net speed testers. Note, they usually use either Flash or Java/Javascript! one is http://www.speedtest.net Note that the speed will varying depending on time of day, location of test endpoint, and a zillion other factors.
-The Powerbook G4 is getting old and slow compared to the latest machines. I just got the New York Times homepage in about 5 seconds on my Powerbook G4 (ethernet, cleared Safari cache and history first). On a MacPro dual 3GHz Intel Xenon, it's maybe half that time. There are many factors you have no control over. On many web pages, advertising forms a lot of the page, and those ads come from other servers, often slowing down the page. I avoid even trying to play Flash videos on the G4.
You could have other problems, too, hardware or software. Sometimes, it just pays to buy a newer model.

My iphone 5s (7.1) has permanently the search icon, as if searching network. This affects the speed of email and consumes a lot of battery. This happens even with all applications closed. I have restored the iPhone but the problem persists. Does anyone  have an idea of the solution?
    Thanks!!

Try to reboot the iPhone, if that doesn't help make a backup via iTunes, and restore the iPhone via iTunes.
Otherwise disable background refresh, and kill all apps

  • How to turn off email and web site links?

I'm making my own letterhead template for my massage business.
I want to turn off the automatic linking to my email address and web site which are both included on my letterhead. It's just annoying that every time I accidentally click on either of those I'm taken to my web site or my computer is trying to email me!
I only snail mail my letterhead and have no use for the linking. I can change the type format so it looks like the rest of the letterhead, but I can't turn off the linking.
    Paul

There is an option under Preferences > Auto-Correction to "Automatically detect email and web addresses." You want that one unchecked. There is also a link inspector, second from the right, with options to enable hyperlinks or make all hyperlinks inactive. Seems contradictory to me & I've found that if a document already has some linked text, changing these preferences doesn't change the existing links. And, if you paste in something with a link the link will still be active.

  • Requirement to have email and web service.

I have Verizon wireless and they are telling me that I am required to have the email and web service on the Blackberry and I was also told that I needed for the operation of the phone to operate as a regular phone. Is this true? I wanted them to take off the email and web service until I could get another job because I can't afford the 30.00 dollars per month but sill have the phone use as a regular phone. I was wondering if it is Blackberry or Verizon that is requiring this.

It is Verizon requiring that. You are using their network, and they have a right to require what they wish while you use their network.

  • Fonts displaying in strange characters in Email and Web Browser

Myself and my creative director (on two different computers) are seeing strange characters in our email clients and web browser. He uses Entourage for Email and I use Thunderbird. We both use Firefox for a web browser.
This does not happen with every email or with every web page, what could it be?

Clear out the font cache files from the hard drive with Font Finagler. Also, if you have the fonts Helvetica Fractions or Times Phonetic on the drive, delete them.

  • Email and Web Through WiFi

    Hi,
I'm new to the Blackberry. I have a 8220 and I want to set up my email. I have a wireless signal that the phone picks up on but when I set up my email, T-Mobile wants me to pay for internet. Can I get emails and view the web through my wireless?
    Thanks, BG
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

bigguy--without the BlackBerry Data Plan, you will not get many of the device functions, such as RIM-pushed email, the normal BlackBerry browser, BlackBerry Messenger, etc.
You must have the BB Data Plan for that.
You can set your browser to the Hotspot browser (Options > Advanced > Browser) and surf the net and like. You can browser to your google webmail and work from there... but not from the messages folder, as you are not paying for the full BlackBerry Data Plan which enables that.
You will be limited in function, but you get what you pay for, and some people such as yourself do choose to do it that way.

  • K800i as a bluetooth modem - email and web just stopped working!

I have been using a K800i as a BT modem for many months now - have had no problems.
The phone pairs with my PowerBook - I can browse files, iSync etc. I can also establish a live connection to the internet through the phone - connects and authenticates no problem - but for some reason, I simply cannot actually surf the web via Safari (or any other browser) or download/send email. There is no problem with my phone - I still can retrieve email and surf form the handset.
    Thoughts would be appreciated!

    Spooky !!
Save For Web has decided to return from lunch with no further
intervention on my part - I had carried on working on files throughout
the time this feature wasn't working
    Now,although I don't want a cure,I'd be interested in any explanations
as to why my normally very stable PSE3 has decided to play up.

  • Email and web browser MHP 1.0

    Hi all,
Has anybody implemented and email client and a web browser for MHP 1.0.2?
Are there open source tools to help me on the implementation on these applications, like a Jave email client and a Java web browser that I can convert easily to MHP?
What Java classes I need to use to implement the email and browser?
Does any STB in the market support MHP 1.1?
I want to hear your opinions...
    Thanks in advance,
    Jordi (Barcelona)

    Dear Jordi
We have created a java browser that runs very well in mhp, and you can run a webmail service on it as will. You can get a 2 months free evaluation version. Please see www.nordcom.dk for details on how to get the evaluation version.

  • Monitoring of private customer Email and Web servi...

Following from another thread (see below)
Can anyone clarify what is monitored, kept, stored, manipulated or reused by BT, its subsidiaries, partners etc, including that required government agencies (I'm not asking about state agency covert spying for obvious reasons - your not allowed to tell). So when I delete an email inc delete from the server, is it?
This is not about contextual advertising; it covers ALL contact and handling of private communication of email and browsing activity. i.e. BT knows how much data flows in and out of my broadband account, so item one could be "data quantity is monitored" Item 2 is?
In relation to private emails sent and received by broadband customers
    and
    In relation to browsing activity.
I know the thread "Yahoo snooping on personal emails - BT too?" and have posted on that thread but thought it might be helpful to start with a fresh question directly related to BT as that is who I have a contractual agreement with.
Wondering what went wrong with human communication?

  • New Upgrade - Now i'm getting my wife's text, emails and web searches

My wife and I share a Apple ID account and in the past this hasn't been a problem.  Now since we've done the latest software update I'm getting all of her text messages and web searches (from her iPhone) on my Mac.  And when someone calls my cell number it calls her phone too.  I've been looking in the settings how to turn this off, but I've been unsuccessful.
Basically, I would like to have my iPhone and Mac synced (receive calls and texts) which works great now, but not my wife's.  And I would like for my wife's phone to not receive any of my text or calls.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Hi Go to settings Facetime Turn off Cellular Data. But you would be better each having your own Apple ID Cheers Brian

  • 8820 - can't set up email and web via for local wi-fi use only

I purchased an 8820 from Circuit City about 3 months ago. This was an unlocked phone for use on the AT&T network. I did not want to purchase an data contract with AT&T, I only use AT&T for the phone number and text service. I would like to use the 8820 for email at home (gmail
acct) on my wi-fi network, and also for the internet at home on my wi-fi network.
When I try to set up my email on the blackberry the only option is "I want to use a work email account with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server". There is no home email setup.
Also, the browser won't connect even though I have my wi-fi set up at home. Is it possible to set up my gmail and internet without going through AT&T?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
To use the BB PUSH email, you must subscribe to an adequate data plan. See this FAQ for general guidelines:
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/What_do_I_need_a_Data_Plan_for%3F
You might be able to use the HotSpot browser to browse via your home WiFi...or you might have to get a separate browser (Bolt, Opera, etc.) that does not depend on BIS. Without a data plan, you will be limited to only web-based services...you will not be able to use any of the proprietary BB services (as per the above FAQ).
    Good luck!

  • Moving Exchange email and web hosting from Godaddy

While I consider myself very well versed in everything PC/Mac, I am finding that setting up a newly installed OSX 10.6 server is a little more difficult than originally imagined to set up.
I am running 10.6 server off an iMac with 4gb ram and plenty of storage space as well as a great upload speed thanks to FiOS. I would like to first move my email from godaddy since their hosted exchange service is rather expenssive for a small business. If someone could provide a relatively easy step by step on setting this up for a group of 5 users, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

First question - do you have a static IP address on your FiOS link?
If you don't have a static address, but have a dynamic address, then stop right here and don't think about moving on until you have a static address. Seriously.
On the other hand, if you do have a static address then all you need to do is:
    1) create the user accounts on the server
    2) enable mail service on the server (SMTP and at least one of IMAP and POP)
    3) Configure your router to route incoming connections on port 25 to your server (and port 143 and/or 110 if you want IMAP or POP access from outside your network)
    4) change your DNS to add an MX record for your domain that maps to your static IP address
The major issue you'll have is in setting up your user directory - that will require functional local DNS, so take your time with that first and work on each step one at a time.

  • PDF files email and web sites

What app do I need to upload a PDF file to a web site? Trying to upload my resume to a job search site. And how do I attach more then one PDF file an email at one time?

    Hi Christian,
I've had problems for ages with this but I did notice that after I went through the reinstall with Apple yesterday I now have a couple of different options that are working.
Yesteday I uninstalled reader, restarted my computer and then reinstalled again. I didn't think it had worked for me but after some extra experimentation I have discovered a couple of things.
    On some websites eg: https://www.gatewaycu.com.au/uploadedFiles/PDF/Forms/Quick%20Debit%20Authority.pdf
it is coming up with a toolbar (I suppose it's called) at the top of the PDF and it is allowing me to print and save to my desktop, open the pdf and print YEAH.
Also with another website the PDF is showing up differently. eg http://media.wix.com/ugd/99e891_6110f024d956431abb7b66dd24f19251.pdf
This shows up like it used to but the difference is that if you try to save as or print throught the safari options like I used too it doesn't work, BUT if you hover down the bottom of the PDF it brings up a bar type box (sorry I don't know the technical word for this) then you can print, save to desktop, documents etc and then print from there too.
YEAH! It looks like (I hope) that the problem is solved. You have to go about it in a couple of different ways depending on the website, but hey, I don't think that's so bad as long as I can actually print my PDF's. It's better that not being able to access any of them which is what's been happening for the last few months.
I hope this helps you guys out and if you have any problems just let me know and I'll try and explain it better for you.
    Cheers
    Andrea
