Eclipse Maven Weblogic hot code swap

I have a basic question about running a JEE application on Weblogic using maven in eclipse. I use OEPE (Oracle Enterprise pack for Eclipse) that we know comes with some plugins such as m2e and wtp. As far as I know this plugins read the pom file and based on them build the jar, war and ear files. What I do right now is like this: I check the build automatically option and let these plugins create my EAR file, then right click on the instance of weblogic server in Eclipse and add it to server using add/remove option and finally start the application server. This way when I change code in my classes they will be picked by application server and hot swap works. Another way to build the EAR file is using the m2e plugin: right click on the parent pom file and choose maven install then start the application server and use the wls:deploy in order to deploy the EAR file. (This time I don't add the ear file to the application server from within the Eclipse and eclipse also is not aware of that EAR file when I right click on the instance of my weblogic inside the IDE). As far as I've seen I can only add those artifacts to server which are built using the wtp plugin and not the artifacts that are built using maven command of m2e plugin. The problem with wtp and all these plugins (except for m2e which actually just runs mvn -install) is that they don't work flawlessly. Sometimes they don't build the artifacts correctly sometimes the jar files are obsolete and they don't get updated. Moreover when you use the jar file of one project in another maven project they get stuck with the jar file prior to your changes, while using the m2e they are built flawlessly. Now here is the real question: Which way is the correct one to have hot deploy? Am I missing something? Is building the ear file using m2e plugin and deploying using wls:deploy enough? If so how will hot swap happen by itself or should i use wls:redeploy each time? If m2e is enough then I assume that I should abandon wtp plugin (it does not know all the plugins of pom file and I should sometimes mark them as ignored in lifecycle management xml file of eclipse).
I'm sorry that the question is that long but I hope that I made the case clear and get some help!
Cheers.

I assume that by maven integration in eclipse you specifically mean the m2e plugin. Then what about wtp plugin? And by not using maven and managing the dependencies in eclipse: Do you really mean that I, myself should care about putting my jar files war file in my ear file and going back to the old fashioned library management? (If this is the case then it isn't worth it because working without maven is just wasting time and out of industry standards nowadays.) Or maybe I've not understood this sentence exactly :
but you will need to manage your projects dependencies in Eclipse, not via pom files.

  • Hot Code Replace Problem...

    Hi Everyone,
I am using WebLogic 10 with Eclipse. Whenever i start the server in debug mode and make two three changes in the code... WHAM.... I get the Hot Code Replace error. Is there any way so that the server can keep up with the code changes. Publishing the app again takes approx 40 mins!

Almost always this is a limitation of the JRE/JDK you are using and really
    nothing to do with Eclipse.
Try a different VM and see if you have better luck

  • Hot code replacement

How do I do hot code replacement in Eclipse? I tried to write another line while debugging the code, but I got the warning message about the obsolete methods in stack.

I didn't write a new method to replace a method.
Suppose that I have set a breakpoint at
System.out..println("hi"), debug it, and then change
the number 2 to 3 and save it, then I want this code
to work well. It did show a pop up dialog explaining
    about obsolete methods.
    What does it mean?
         public void testSomething() {
System.out.println("hi");If you set a breakpoint here. This method was on stack and when you
did hot code replacement and this method "testSomething" becomes
obsolete method. And it will not execute the new modified statement.
To make the new replaced code to execute you should pop this
frame and continue. Or set a breakpoint at line before entering
this method and then do hot code replacement.
              System.out.println("2");
    Thanks.

  • Hot code replacement for local application?

i got hot code replacement working during debugging a removet web application (servlet). however, it doesn't work if i debug a simple (local) application. is there something i forgot to setup? (i'm using Eclipse)

This is an eclipse specific question. It is up to Eclipse to do the code replacement.
    Have you tried 3.0-M8 ?

  • Hot code replace failed - Delete method not implemented

I debug my Java application with Eclipse (3.1). When I change my code during debugging, I get the following error message:
...MyApp at localhost:4540 (may be out of synch) was unable to replace the running code with the code in the workspace.
    Reason:
Hot code replace failed - Delete method not implemented
What does that mean and how can I fix this?

This means you changed a class while it was debugging an application and it could not update the class for the application while it was running.
The error suggests you may be running an older JVM, i.e. pre-1.4.2 but this error can occur with any JVM if the change is incompatible with the previous version of the class.
The hot replace often does not work for non trivial changes to code.

  • Weblogic 8.1 and Eclipse using Weblogic Server Tools

I am working on a project that has been developed with Weblogic 8.1 without integration into an IDE (Eclipse, etc.) We are trying to convert the source tree to a form usable within Eclipse using Weblogic Server Tools. We want to make deployment on developer workstations quicker and easier and provide for server side debugging. There is not much documentation on how to do this that I have been able to find. I have just finished reading the details of the split directory strucuture in the Weblogic documentation and understand that Server Tools uses the split directory concept. My question is basically how we create the project in Eclipse (with Server Tools plug-ins) initially. Is anyone out there still using Weblogic 8.1 and Eclipse 3.3 (Europa) using Weblogic Server Tools that can help?

There isn't much in a way of documentation that's explicit to WebLogic Server Tools, but a lot of Workshop 10.2 documentation applies. Basically, you will want to create Dynamic Web Projects to house your code. On the first page of Dynamic Web Project wizard, you will get a chance to define and target a server (WLS 8.1 in your case). That will configure your project classpath for WLS 8.1 and get everything else squared away.
Note that there is only very basic support for 8.1. In particular, the split-directory concept is not supported, but deployment is taken care of for you behind the scenes, so the details shouldn't matter that much.

  • How to integrate Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse with Weblogic Portal

    Hi
I am following this documentation http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15919_01/wlp.1032/e14252/setup_dev_env.htm#i1013214
to setup my development environment for developing portal applications, but I cannot set it up, my eclipse does not have PORTAL perspective.
I have downloaded the Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse 11gR1 (11.1.1.5) and the Oracle WebLogic Portal 10.3 as mentioned in the documentation.
The Oracle Weblogic Portal 10.3 includes a workshop version of eclipse, but that is not based on a recent Eclipse, that is why I would like to use the Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse 11gR1 (11.1.1.5).
It is weird int he Oracle Portal 10.3 installation that I cannot install the Weblogic Portal without the Workshop.
Could you help me in this? How can I integrate the Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse with Weblogic Portal?
    Thank you.

For WebLogic Portal tooling you have a couple of options. For WebLogic Portal 10.3 and older, Workshop for WebLogic will be your tooling environment.
Starting in WebLogic Portal 10.3.2, which released this year, the development tools have migrated to Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse. The WebLogic Portal 10.3.2 installer will install both the runtime and the IDE configured with additional WebLogic Portal Eclipse features (Portal Project Configuration, Perspecitives, Palettes, Deployment, etc).
If you are interest in the latest version, you can download from the WebLogic Portal OTN page - http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/weblogic/portal/index.html

The server is currently unable to handle the request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. The implication is that this is a temporary condition which will be alleviated after some delay. If known, the length of the delay may be indicated in a Retry-After header. If no Retry-After is given, the client SHOULD handle the response as it would for a 500 response.
Note: The existence of the 503 status code does not imply that a server must use it when becoming overloaded. Some servers may wish to simply refuse the connection.
any more suggestion will be helpful.
this is just a start so please i need to solve this problem so that i can move ahead

  • Eclipse maven multi module project issues

Most developers I know moved on to IntelliJ for just one reason: better support for development and reload/hot deployment of multi module maven projects and its resources. All of these problems keep happening in the case of nested/hierarchical multi module maven projects which is >90% of maven use cases:
    1. Every time a multi module project is imported, sometimes there are both referenced libraries and maven dependencies in some projects. We have to manually remove referenced libraries from appearing. How can stop this from happening?
    2. Changes made to resource updates are not always refreshed and require full clean, using eclipse:clean eclipse:eclipse commands and even a maven project refresh using Alt+F5? Why should we do this and not let Eclipse figure out what's wrong? Also, Eclipse updates to dependency projects are slow when fixing any compile time issues from dependencies.
    3. Maven sometimes import dependency projects and its resources into its classpath and sometimes imports final artifact or jar from local repository as its dependency. This is a major problem just because jars excludes specific resources, say, from its src/main/resources. Is there a way in Maven to ask it to use resources of final artifact or exclude files that are not part of the its dependency packaging, typically excluded in the the dependent pom by <exclude>resource... without manually updating classpath?
    4. When deploying a multi module project to an Eclipse Tomcat container, resources are not deployed randomly. Say a dependency src/main/resources has dep1-config.xml and you want to specify a custom file dep1-config.xml runtime, there is currently no way to say override from the main project being deployed or from custom folders added to classpath of project being deployed. Guess this is a problem with the container classloader and not really a maven issue.
    5. There isn't a single multi module project deployment tutorial with best practices of managing classpath resources anywhere.
How hard is it to make a stable maven support just like IntelliJ?

Please do not use the maven-eclipse-plugin (mvn.eclipse:eclipse) and m2e simultaneously, they're not very compatible. Instead, when issues happen, clean your project in the m2e way, using the "Maven > Update configuration" context menus on your project(s).

  • Error invoking WebService in Eclipse with WebLogic 12c plugin

I am using Eclipse Indigo with WebLogic 12c plugin to create a standalone WebService Client which invokes a simple WebService. The WebService is protected by Security Policies Wssp1.2-2007-Wss1.0-X509-Basic256.xml and Wssp1.2-SignBody.xml.
I get the following exception when I run the standalone client:
h2. Exception in thread "main" java.util.ServiceConfigurationError: javax.xml.ws.spi.Provider: Provider weblogic.wsee.jaxws.spi.WLSProvider could not be instantiated: java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError
The same program works fine using JDeveloper 11g but not in Eclipse Indigo or in Juno. Has anyone faced this issue?
    Thanks,
    Madhav

The stand-alone client JAR file does not, however, support invoking Web services that use the following advanced features:
    Web services reliable SOAP messaging
    Message-level security (WS-Security)
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/web.1111/e13760/client.htm#i229632
Can you try running by adding weblogic.jar. but if you run the client inside the wls Server it should work.
