Edit doc text writes over text not replace

my issue is after scanning a document and then using acrobat pro and trying to edit document the edit document text just writes over the text it doesnt replace it . is it possable to fix this?

How are you trying to edit? I assume you did OCR, so was that ClearScan or searchable text. The latter just displays a picture of the scan and puts the text on another layer. Editing is not really a great option in Acrobat unless you are looking for minor edits. I suspect that the method you are using to edit text is not what should be used. If you simply have graphics, then you can not change the display anyway. To have the text displayed be the text to edit, you have to use ClearScan and then you typically get text that can not be edited.

I would like to insert a new text. I thought i could use the touch-out tool but i can´t don´t know why. I did it with the typewriter tool. So the text is this
now i try to change the font type but i can´t. I do not get the Typeface Menu as the Acrobat Help says.

Indeed i do get it in the original PDF text but not in the new one.
I made a PDF from InDesign, i don´t have the original file with me now but i suposse i can edit the resulting PDF. I am reading Adobe online help but doesn´t work. I have Acrobat Pro 8.
Any help or ideas?

thanks for the good info CtDave. I thought that even Acrobat 8 Pro would let me introduce a text and change its font type without too much trouble. I see that i can change the font style from the original pdf texts but NOT from new inserted text. For i moment i thought it was something related to the PDF Security or Editting settings but that is not the case since there is no restrictions.
I guess i will keep trying to see what is wrong just for the learning process

Text not working correctly

Im finding acrobat pro 10 incredibly frustrating and unintuitive. This is whats happening. I have created a pdf to which I need to add a page of text. I choose - add or edit text box in tools. Then the typewriter bar appears so I click on the typewriter and begin typing. Then I click out of the text box but when I go back to begin typing again I cannot. If I click on it again to try and aline cursor where I left off to begin typing again nothing happens. Instead a blue outline goes around the whole thing. I have tried with edit doc text and with edit text box. If I click a few times it will just start a new text box which I do not want. I just want to do a simple word doc . How hard can it be??? perhaps I should go back to using office. Please help, Im desperate to finish this project.

I would highly recommend you do text creation & editing in Word. Acrobat is indeed not designed for this. It does offer tools that do limited adding of text or editing of text, but this is not the purpose of the application.
As a potential fix for your current issue, after entering text with the Typewriter tool you can edit it by clicking Tools (on the right) > Content and go back to the Add or Edit Text box tool. You will see a blue border around your text, when you go to edit, double click somewhere in the middle of the blue box. Double clicking at the beginning or end may inadvertently add a new text area.

PDF created using Java iText package - Text not editable and not displaying font properties on Acrobat

Hi,
I have an issue in editing the text and viewing the font properties of a text region on a PDF created using Java iText package.
I use Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended and the option Tools -> Advanced Editing -> TouchUp Text Tool.
The strange behaviour is that, I have 2 PDFs created out of the same base PDF and text added via Java iText package with the same Text, Font and other properties.
One of the PDF has the text region editable on Acrobat but the other one has the text region which is not editable.
But both the PDFs are editable via Adobe Illustrator.
I have attached both the PDFs for your reference
PDF_Editable.pdf - Editable on Acrobat
PDF_Not Editable.pdf - Not Editable on Acrobat
Any help or insight to find out the difference/issue with the PDF which is not editable via Acrobat would be appreciated.

You don't have direct control of the leading of a multiline text field. A common approach is to control the background color of the field with JavaScript since the lines are not really needed when the field is used in Reader/Acrobat. They may be useful when using the form by hand. Try adding .epub to the end of the name.
I assume you are aware that to open an .epub file you need a special app, not TextEdit or Pages, right?

Adobe Acrobat X Version 10.1.0 Edit Document Text tool not working

Hi Adobe People
I am suing Adobe Acrobat X Version 10.1.0. I have a document open and I would like to delete a sentence.
So I click on tools and navigate to Edit Document Text.
I highlight the sentence I would like to delete. I press delete and nothing happens. I go to the tool bar at the top and click on edit and the only option it will give me is to copy.
What am I not getting here. I have no idea what is the problem and I am unsure how to solve it.
FYI I want to edit the content in the PDF because I do not have the original source file.

I'm stumped.
I found the original source file. It is a word file. I edited one page in word.
Then I opened the original file and I clicked on Tools, navigated to Pages and clicked on Insert from File.
I got the following message
"This document restricts some Acrobat features to allow for extended features in Adobe Reader. To create a copy of the document that is not restricted (and has no extended features in Adobe Reader), Click Save a Copy.
So I do just that.
I try to do the same thing with a saved copy of the document and now it won't give me the option to Insert from File.
I neet to insert a page becuse this is a long document with many text boxes. It was originally created in word. Then converted to a PDF. I do not want to recreate all of these text boxes.
Ugh...

I use a Mac and have no trouble editing or deleting text I have typed into a Facebook post.
If you create a post, you can click in the upper right-hand corner of the post. You will see an inverted caret (an upside down ^). Clicking that will give you options to delete or edit your post.
If you have replied to a post, you will see a small pencil in the upper right-hand corner of your reply. Clicking that will give you options to delete or edit your reply.

No, it's not. Tap an hold on the message you want to forward. Tap on "More" in the pop up box. Tap on the foward arrow in the lower right. Edit as neccessary.

How to edit multiple text boxes (not linked/chained) in story editor?

I don't have a book with running text, but lots of pages (70) with separate text boxes on each page plus some captions. It is a design for exhibition panels.
It is really painful to proof read. And taking a print for all these pages to proof read is a waste! Is there no way I can see "all" the text in a view, one by one (without selecting the text boxes on each page) to simply review and edit the text? Is the story editor so basic? (I don't see any options or functions in the story editor window!)

No way I know of in InDesign but what you could do is export all the content to an InCopy assignment. Open the assignment in InCopy and then check it out. That will give you all the stories to edit in Galley, Story or Layout view.
InCopy is a part of Creative Cloud. If you're on something earlier, there's little else I can offer unless you happen to be on CS6 since InCopy CS6 can still be purchased.

Alt text not appearing in WebHelp output

We are using FrameMaker 10 and RoboHelp 9 to output as WebHelp. In the FM files, I have added alternate text to anchored frames containing images. When I update the linked FM files in my RH project, the screen tip is empty for these images, but when I look at the HTML source for the topic, it shows that the alt text is there:

This seems like a pretty major bug to me. I know there have been scripts developed to delete the alt text so that graphic filename won't show up as the alt text, but is there anything that will take the existing alt text and populate the screen tip/title property with it, which seems to be the key to getting this to work in the output? There's no way I can manually copy and paste all the alt text into the images in RH, especially because I'll just end up having to redo it every time I update the linked FM files.

If a lengthy description is needed to describe the image, use the LONGDESC attribute to point to the URL of another page which has the lengthy description. Because LONGDESC is not yet sufficiently supported, also follow the image with a "D-link". A D-link is a standard anchor link with contents consisting of the capital letter "D", like this:

[Smartfroms] Problems in fetching text edit control text

Hi gurus,
I made an application using Screen programming (or dialog programming you must say). I used 3 tab strips. In last tab strip I used a text edit control to write remarks in multiple lines.
I save those remarks (data element: TEXT255) in a custom table as they are saved as "sdfsdfsdf##df##sd##fsd##fsd##fsd##f##sd##f". Fine enough as "ENTER KEY" is interpreted as "##".
I fetched them easily in a display mode using get_stream method. All good.
But the problem arose when I needed to fetch those saved remarks in a smartform.
When I fetched those remarks they came as "sdfsdfsdf##df##sd##fsd##fsd##fsd##f##sd##f" in samrtform's text_box.
I tried a Find and replace command but ## couldn't process, it's because ## is just the interpretation of ENTER KEY.
I need them as
sdfsdfsdf
df
sd
fsd
fsd
fsd
f
sd
f
Is there anyways to get multiple lines text box in smartforms or can I remove those "##" from the text?

I am saving it as a text in TEXT255 data element.
But in text edit control when i press enter it adds ## to the text. And ## could not be processed via FIND and REPLACE commands.

Why doesn't keynote allow me to edit existing text in a powerpoint file?

I download powerpoint presentations from my professors and need to fill in some blanks. The presentations open in Keynote, but do not allow me to edit the exsisting text. All I can do is write over the exsisting txt which is not usefull. When I open the presentation in powerpoint, there is no problem. I have no idea what the issue may be....I am new to Keynote.

If you go to www.portforward.com it will give you both your external ip address, as well as instructions for port forwarding. ARD, in addition to ports 5900 and 3283, also uses port 5988. you need to set each to your particular client computer.
That said, some internet providers lockout your port forwarding capabilities...

I can not edit some text files 9-20 megabytes to replace two words in each file, the source is a text file and the same destination but with different name, because with the same name have been unable . My idea is to remove the original and stay with the new performing edition but that if he does , let me file this way:

The type of data you use is long since varchar not allow me because it cuts my data file , use varchar (50000000) but takes the information and short .
I am using long data type , modify the file and I pass the name of the text files of sap bods for global variables. They are a series of files that are called by a while loop
