Editing jpeg of logo

I have a logo saved in jpeg format...however I have just realized it is in a fairly small format. Whenever I try to enlarge it, it becomes very pixelated....is there anyway to easily enlarge it and make it so it is sharper? Or should I just send it to a graphic design person and let them play with it?
I have Photoshop Elements 4.0 for Mac
Thanks
Kathryn

It depends a lot upon the nature of the graphic. Logos are normally maintained in vectore formats, which may be rendered to any size - to avoid this problem.
If you don't have the pixels, making it bigger is unlikely to deliver good results [for you or anyone]. Depending upon the nature of the graphics, it may be that one of the multiple resampling algorithms in PSE would work for you. Have you tried them all?

  • Edit jpegs or tiffs using Raw interface in Elements 10?

Hello- When I was using Elements 8, I could easily edit jpegs and tiffs in the Photoshop Raw interface.
(I know that's not the same as an image originally shot in Raw, but nevertheless it was very useful in some situations.)
Now I'm using Elements 10, and either I've forgotten how to do it, or it can't be be done.  Can anyone give me some instruction?
    Thanks!

Hi Dominic - Thanks for the reply ... but I think I must be missing something obvious.
First, FYI I am using a Mac.  In Elements 8, I was doing exactly what you suggested, and it worked fine.
With Elements 10, I see no button to switch to Camera Raw. (I can convert to Photoshop Document (PSD,) or save to Photoshop Raw, but tneither of those brings up the RAW interface. If you or anyone can point me to something I must not be seeing, please let me know!
    Thanks Again

  • IPhoto Exporting "Current" Edited Jpeg

    Hi,
I have tried to search for an answer regarding the export in "Current" option in iPhoto and have not yet completely understand the option.
The background is that since the photos app is coming out soon, I am thinking about exporting all my edited jpegs and put them in the photos library. Hence i will be using photos exclusively as a management software whereas i will be using Lightroom to do my edits from now on since I have transitioned to shooting raw files. The problem I have encountered during exporting in jpeg is that the high quality file seems to small in size while the maximum quality seems to big compared to the original file. I understand that what iPhoto does is re-package the photo in it's own algorithm hence it's not really comparable to the original file. However, I've noticed that one you've done edits to a jpeg, exporting in "current" file gives you a edited jpeg with comparable size to the original file.
My question is if this current edited file is of same quality as the original file and hence i don't have to make the tough decision on whether i want to export in high or maximum quality.
    Thank you very much.

but the reason for doing so is i want to keep Photos library as clean as possible.
Seriously, you need to ask yourself, what on earth is a "dirty" Photos Library? That concept makes no sense to me.
I am simply planning to use photos as a managing software to create events etc for future browsing. No edits whatsoever will be done in the photos app since editing yields you a duplicate of almost the same size which takes up significant amount of space
If that's ll you're doing you don't need - and should not use - a photo manager design specifically for non-destructive editing. It's only adding layers of complexity to your workflow. Just keep you photos in folders and use an image browser.
Plus, I have basically migrated towards taking RAW files
That makes even less sense. You cannot do anything with a Raw without first processing it into something else - like a Jog. You can't view it, print it, anything. You're idea is not quite thought through.

  • Finding photos on my MAC and Editing JPEGs in Aperture or Photoshop

    Hello all!
This has been a great forum and I have learnt tons of information.  I'm a recent convert to MAC computers and I have been working with Aperture 3.  Whenever I upload images from my camera to my laptop, it automatically uploads into Aperture 3.  Now I am having trouble importing select images into Photoshop CS5.  When I go to Finder and select pictures, there is an icon titled "Aperture Library".  When I click on that it opens Aperture and I can view all my photos in the folders I created.  How do I export a single photo into Photoshop for editing?  How can I view my photos in folders without opening up Aperture?  I'm used to being able to do this with my PC, so I assumed the MAC would work in a similar fashion.  I assumed that instead of the "Aperture Library" icon, there would be folders and subfolders corresponding to the folders and subfolders I created in Aperture.  Please help!!
Also, my camera only shoots JPEG images (no RAW).  Is it true that I can't edit JPEG images in Aperture...or at least this is not recommended?  This is what I have read, as I will degrade the image quality.  It appears, though, that I can edit the JPEG images in Photoshop CS5, correct?  I'm at least able to edit the pictures using the "Camera Raw" feature in Photoshop, from what I have read.
Thanks in advance for your help.  I've been scouring the internet for answers to no avail.  If you feel another post answers my question, feel free to link the post in your response.
    Thanks again,
    Mike

Thanks Ernie.  Your reply was much appreciated and what you said clarified a few things.  I did watch several tutorials about Aperture 3 and they stated that there is no point in editing a JPEG in Aperture.  Basically your camera is already compressing (or reducing the quality) of the image in order to convert to JPEG, which is obviously a smaller size than RAW.  Therefore, when you make edits to a JPEG in Aperture, you are again compressing the image, and reducing the quality even further...potentially to unacceptable levels.  Is this not true...at least for someone learning photography editing / manipulation.  My goal is to make something look good to the average person...I'm not trying to win any awards here.  Does the same hold true for photoshop? Put it this way....I'm an aspiring amateur .
Also is it possible to view your photos outside of Aperture...somewhere in the Finder menu?  Aperture is my default program...when I plug my camera into my laptop, Aperture opens up and all my photos are imported there.
I was thinking of buying a point and shoot camera that also took RAW photos.  Just with all the money I've spent this last six months (macbook pro, logic studio, aperture, photoshop, akai mpk25, external lcd monitor, and krk speakers), I'd rather stick to my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH22.  Wow...it's going to be hard to look at my credit card statement .  At least I have 0% for 18 months!!
Thanks again.  Any additional input is appreciated.

  • How does ACR save edited JPEG and TIFF files?

When a JPEG or TIFF file is edited in ACR, are the edits destructive when you click the "Done" button, permanently changing the file? Or is the edit info saved in sidecar files like with edited RAW files, not affecting the original file?
If I reopen a previously edited JPEG file in ACR, will the adjustment settings be the same as where I left off, allowing me to change those edits, like a crop or HSL adjustment? Thanks.

First: There is a Camera RAW Forum.
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/cameraraw
Second: It should be fairly simple to test your hypotheses.
And on my station at least it appears the data is stored in the file and not as a sidecar-file.

  • I created a logo in photoshop, i rasterized some of the font to edit.. the logo is perfect and crisp

i created a logo in photoshop, i rasterized some of the font to edit.. the logo is perfect and crisp in photoshop, its set to 300 dpi. i was told by factory that will be printing the logo that it will be done through illustartor and when i open with illustrator the rasterized text and other text are not clear but when i set the dpi to 72 dpi it is clear in illustrator. my question is will this photoshop file print clearly at 300 dpi with illustrator?

Trying to resolve problems like this with only generic input is difficult. It is much better if you were to provide screen shots of your particular documents or other numeric data. Under the circumstances, here is the best advice I can offer.
Within Photoshop the "dpi" setting (should be ppi or pixels per inch) is only meta data that comes into play when you try and produce a print of some sort. Since you are intending to print, this setting matters, but the pixel count in the image also matters. What you should do is first determine your print size, lets say 3 inches by 2 inches as an example. At 300 pixels per inch  you want to create your Photoshop document to be 900 pixels by 300 pixels.
Create your logo artwork and text within Photshop. Ideally, both would be vector entities, that is, made up of shape layers and normal text layers. The text should not be rasterized unless there is some compelling need. If you do something like warping text it will remain vectorized in Photoshop, but will be rasterized when digested by Illustrator. You can then save your psd file and it should print fine at its intended size, from Illustrator.  When you open the psd file into Illustrator choose the "Convert Layers to Objects" option otherwise it will enter as a single layer image (rasterized). I suggest you make test prints with your desktop printer using both Photoshop & Illustrator
to monitor the results of using Illustrator as a print engine. I would typically do the opposite and use Photoshop as a print engine for Illustrator documents.

  • Editing JPEGs with the RAW interface

I discovered a way to edit JPEG images using the RAW interface. I go to File > Open As... instead of File Open.., change the format in the lower window to "Camera RAW" and click open.
I am fully aware of the benefits of shooting in RAW as compared to JPEG and I'm not approaching this with the expectation that I'll get better results editing JPEGs using this approach. What I am addressing is the fact that the tools in the RAW interface are more consolidated and faster to use then going through a typical workflow using Levels - Hue/Saturation - Shadows/Highlights etc.
The other benefit seems to me is you can use the same RAW controls numerous times while editing, while you're only suppost to use Levels Hue/Saturation controls once so as to minimize the impact these tools have on image degradation.
Am I on to something here or out in left field?
    Opinions please...
    Deep Woods

Does two minor changes not equal one major change? I'm not sure. This also begs the question... at what point in using Levels, contrast or saturation tools does editing change from minor to major? Maybe I'm splitting hairs, but I don't believe everyone out there would agree at what point this is defined.
True, major and minor is subjective, but I can see how you adjust the black point in levels, and then you come back into the photo later and decide to slide it a little more, I don't have any particular qualms about doing this, and I don't think anyone can look at the resulting image and say -- see, right there, quality degradation because you used levels twice.
The place where levels is most dangerous is when you either do ridiculous things, like move the sliders almost all the way to the middle, and then move them back almost all the way to the edges; or when you are getting posterization (which can happen from even a single use of levels).
Many publications I came across over the years indicate single adjustments only when using these tools on JPEGs, unless of course one is using Adjustment Layers.
Never read that. Can you please provide a reference?
This is why I was hoping for lots of feedback like yours on the issue of using the RAW interface to edit JPEGs. I've received very little feedback on this issue which tells me it is a little known option to users of Photoshop. It is so much easier to edit a JPEG using the RAW interface, rather than go through the conventional workflow with the other tools in Photoshop. So far no one has given me reason to think otherwise.
Yes, I agree editing JPGs in the raw interface has a number of advantages, ease of use being one of them. Non-destructive editing is another advantage. My guess as to why so few people use this tool is that: 1) PSE is a very overwhelming program, and once you learn the traditional way to do things (which is what you get from most books and tutorials), you don't want to bother learning another way to edit your photos; and 2) RAW scares many people.

  • How do i edit jpeg photos from iPhoto in Photoshop CC?

I just downloaded Photoshop  CC on to my new iMac.  Most of my photos are in iPhoto.  I have the iPhoto program setup to open Photoshop CC to edit the pictures.  However, I got a message that CC cannot open jpeg files.  That has to be a mistake!
Can someone help me with this?

Photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync process or removed from the iPhone n the same way. To remove all, deselect sync photos under the photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by sync.
Why did you delete photos in the camera roll?

  • Exporting an Indesign PDF to JPEG causes logo dropshadow to have white box--why?

    Hi all,
I have an Indesign document with a logo in the header. This logo (a linked .png file) has a dropshadow applied to it using Indesign's drop shadow fx (the drop shadow was not created with the graphic in a graphics program). When I export this document to a PDF, everything appears fine. However, when I then convert this PDF to a .JPEG, something happens to the logo--a white box is shown around the logo. I am guessing it's a transparency issue that is causing this white box. If so, why? Why do I get this "white box" around the logo when I export a PDF to a jpeg?
Thanks for any clues anyone can provide to this strange phenomenon.

    Hmm.
From the first post, I was thinking the work-flow was:
    Export from ID to PDF
    Open PDF following its creation
Using Acrobat's file menu, export as JPG
As fars as #2 above, if the checkbox in ID's Export as PDF dialog box is checked, the PDF is opened automatically in Acrobat (if installed). Is this what you mean by "it launches its internal Acrobat dialogue box"?
As far as an internal setting, try exporting directly from ID. Select the items to be exported and when you get to the export dialog, make sure the "Selection" setting is chosen. Then you may be able to isolate whether it is ID (cannot imagine) or it is the PDF export profile, or even one of Acrobat's settings for exporting images.
    Take care, Mike

  • Why are my edited jpegs different after export?

I have a really strange problem that I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere else on the web
It's kind of difficult to understand but I will explain as best I can. So my friend and I have just started a photography business and things are going great. I use a Canon Rebel T3i with either a standard, portrait or telephoto lens. I use Lightroom 5 and after I finish editing my photos, I export them and they look lovely in my folder (I have an Asus laptop and Windows 8 if that helps) however when I upload them to websites like Pixieset or Facebook, the quality of the photo looks nothing like the quality I had edited as. The effects, presets and any other adjustments made to my exported photo become extremely dull and it was like the edit was never done. Even at the highest quality, my photos still look nothing like I edited them!
And what's weirder? My friend uses the exact same program, has the exact same OS and also uses Facebook and Pixieset, along with very similar presets effects etc. and her photos look exactly like they have been edited. I don't understand what's up with that!!! And of course just my luck I am unable to insert a screen capture to show you bc it is for some reason not working. But my export settings are JPEG, sRGB, he quality is 100% and the res is 300 ppi and all photos are very cool toned and dull. I have tried different resolutions, different qualities and even different image formats and every single time I still had the exact same problem Very frustrating!! please offer any advice you can, I have tried everything!
    Thank you in advance!

I also have an ASUS laptop running Windows-8 (13") but I only use the laptop for offloading memory cards while on the road so I will need to figure a way to test this to see if it is something in the OS, the ASUS hardware or whatever. I will be heading off for the weekend so I won't be able to do this until next week but the problem is intriguing.
You said you did "another screen calibration"; was this done with hardware/software using a calorimeter or done visually using software? I am assuming you used hardware but wanted to be sure. Also, are you starting with a RAW image, doing your edits and then exporting the RAW image as a JPEG or did you start with a JPEG? In theory, it shouldn't matter but Lightroom does handle JPEG and RAW images slightly differently. Lightroom 5 is much better at handling JPEG edits non destructively than previous versions but the changes should have been baked into the files upon export.
I am not familiar with Pixieset nor am I a Facebook user but, from what I understand about how Facebook operates, there is some compression as well as stripping of metadata from the file when you post it. This shouldn't matter since the edits should have been baked into the JPEG already but I have been in IT long enough to understand that sometimes, the smallest change can have major unexpected consequences. From what you stated, this should be working but it's not. I would like to see if I can duplicate it so any additional information about your processes/workflow would be helpful.

  • Photomerge needs non-edited JPEGS to be saved again...error

    Greetings,
Up until yesterday things have been flowing smoothly with Photomerge automation in Photoshop CS6.
I usually import RAW files to stich together, as well as JPEGS.  Randomly, it's to the point where I'll import several JPEGs, go to Add Open Files, and it gives me the "Documents must be saved before they can be merged" error.  They haven't been edited??  What gives? I've tried restarting Bridege, Photoshop, my computer but the probelm persists.
Someone on a previous post said it was the asterik found after the file name in Photoshop that was the culprit ((ex., [email protected]%(RGB/8) * )).  I enabled the script event manager and restarted, but nothing changed, asterik is still there, asks to save.
The only work-around is to go through every JPEG after importing and save them again.  Sort of annoying when there's 10 or so images to uselessly save before stiching.
I have a feeling that Bridge is doing something, or Photoshop makes a slight change as I import that gives me the error that they haven't been saved.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Hunter
    UPDATE 08/21/13
I just happened upon some JPEGs that don't have an asterik once imported into Photoshop.  With these, Photomerge does Add Open Files with no errors.  So now I'm wondering if it's something to do with the camera when it write a JPEG, or if it's still Bridge thats acting up and changing stuff slightly.

    Hi,
You should provide persistent as an option.
If you are using XIR2  ( upto SP3):
    1. Open report in edit mode --> Edit query --> take a snapshot for reference
    2. Remove all the prompt objects
    3. Select Run query and then cancel it imeediately
    4. A popup window will appear to purge the data. Select yes.
    5. Then go back to Edit query and then add all prompt objects.
    6. Save the report.
    If you are using XI R3.x / XIR2 SP4
    1. Purge option is available in Edit query/Edit Report
    2. Save the Report.
In boht cases you should select the prompt parameter as Persistent.
    Hope this helps!

  • Edit "JPEG" then "Save As" is destructive ????

Having searched around I can't find an answer to a simple question. If I open a jpeg and edit it "with or without" layers, then flatten (In the case of layers) the image and select the "Save As" command and rename the file or select "As A Copy", will my original jpeg suffer from and adverse effects if I don't save the original file ???. I keep hearing about destructive editing and layers etc. I have tried editing the same photo three times without saving the original and the file size is the same, suggesting that its non destructive, but would like a definitive answer. Thanks in advance

    Noel Carboni wrote:
Generally speaking, saving as a JPEG causes a lossy compression of the data.  So as a rule, any save of a JPEG file results in degradation.
If you talk about Photoshop only, then yes. But "generally speaking": no, this is not universally true.
There are a number of modifications that CAN be done losslessly on a JPEG file (i.e. without decompressing and recompressing the data, thereby preventing a reduction of image quality due to generation loss):
    rotating (lossless)
    flipping (lossless)
    cropping (lossless)
canvas enlarging, i.e. adding a frame (lossless)
grayscaling (lossless except for the [intended] loss of chroma information, i.e. the operation does not add jpeg compression artefacts and thus is equal to converting a color image to a grayscale image in lossless format, such as png)
editing (lossless re-saving of entire jpg image except modified MCU blocks. This comes in handy e.g. for red-eye reduction!)
MCU block rotating, flipping and moving (lossless)
Many programs are capable of lossless rotating and flipping of jpeg files, whereas the other lossless operations are less frequently found.
Photoshop is NOT capable of any of the above lossless operations.
modifications which do not change image pixels:
optimizing the Huffman tables of a JPEG file to increase compression (lossless)
converting between progressive and non-progressive JPEG format (lossless)
Note: Lossless rotating and flipping requires the image size to be a multiple of 1 MCU block (i.e. 8x8 for a jpeg image without chroma subsampling, 16×8 for 4:2:2 subsampling and 16×16 for 4:2:0) as the top and left edge of a JPEG image must lie on a block boundary. When a losslessly cropped JPEG image's bottom or right side does not coincide with a block boundary, then the rest of the data from the partially used blocks will still be present in the cropped file and can be recovered.
lossless editing (e.g. adding of text):
    1) original JPEG image
    2) edited + losslessly resaved JPEG image
    3) comparison
    white: identical pixels
    black: different pixels
lossy editing in Photoshop (e.g. adding fo text):
    1) original JPEG image
    2) edited + saved in Photoshop
    (JPEG, max. quality 12)
    3) comparison
    white: identical pixels
    black: different pixels

  • Unable to open saved edited jpeg image

Not being the most techie type person, sorry if this is repeated in numerous place on the forum. I can see, and open, the images in thumbnail form in my 'Picture - Library'. I can then edit them in PE 10, but when I 'save as' (and I save as jpeg image with a version of IMG_****.jpeg copy ) the 'copy' jpeg thumbnail appears in the library as a blank page and no image. I'm then unable to open the 'saved' copy as it's the 'wrong type'. I've tried numerous images but to no avail. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Change IMG_****.jpeg copy to IMG_****copy.jpeg
