Editing metadata for 35mm scans

is there any way to edit the metadata fields for tiff scans that are imported into aperture, specifically the grayed out fields (shutter speed/aperture/ISO).
Most of my work pre this summer has been film, and I have no metadata for any of those images.

I looked at the data dictionary for Aperture (using Script Editor), and saw this:
EXIF tag n : This class represents an EXIF tag of an image version.
elements
contained by image versions.
properties
name (string, r/o) : This is the name of the EXIF tag.
value (anything, r/o) : This is the value of the EXIF tag.
IPTC tag n : This class represents an IPTC tag of an image version.
elements
contained by image versions.
properties
name (string, r/o) : This is the name of the IPTC tag.
value (string) : This is the value of the IPTC tag.
So basically the EXIF data is all read-only... there's no easy way to change it.
If you were REALLY a database expert you could probably write a program that would issue SQL statements to Aperture's built-in SQLite database to change the values in the tables, but... that's just not practical and the chances for bad things are pretty high.
I'd suggest some custom IPTC fields for this.

  • Unable to edit metadata for some files, Bridge CS6

    I am editing metadata for .wav files, and somehow a few of them have become locked for editing. I have checked the properties for these files and still have full permissions for all users.
    As you can see in the screen capture below, the pencil icons you click to edit the metadata are gone and an error message comes up. Thanks for any help you can give!

    Wow, I just answered my own question...
    After an hour trying to figure this out, I decided to just go ahead and edit the images, but "Edit in Camera Raw" was not an option.  So, I went to Tools \ Cache \ Purge Cache for Folder "xxx"

  • Elements 11 Editing EXIF for film scans

    I have started shooting analog (film) photos and importing the results to my IMAC as scanned images.
    This populates the EXIF with all the scanner details. I would like to edit the EXIF to show my analog camera and film details instead.
    Is there an Elements-compatible tool for this or a stand-alone editor?

    Since there is no data to read from films photos, you have to enter manually all the information you may wish to save. With digital you can automatically get
    - exposure and camera settings
    - date taken
    and many more.
    If you know important data like film type, exposure and camera settings as well as date taken with scans, you'll have to enter that data manually.
    In both cases, you'll enter manually other personal information like places, events and persons.
    Once all that information is entered in the catalog, you can save it either to the files themselves (in the metadata section) or to an xmp sidecar file for raw files. With scans (jpegs or tiffs), that data must be saved to the files via the 'write metadata to files' command in the organizer.
    Does this help ?

  • Editing SharePoint metadata for Visio files

    When I am editing Visio files metadata in SharePoint 2007, it opens a web dialog page to enter the metadata for the SharePoint library, but, when a column field is type: choice-drop down menu. It doesn't take current metadata for those fields, so, the current
    metadata has to be chosen again. Is there any technical document that explains this?
    It also takes too much time to open Visio templates in SharePoint, it doesn't happen with Visio standard files, the solution was to uncheck automatically detect settings, but is there any other solution?
    I am using Windows 7, Office 2010, Visio 2010 and Internet Explorer v8.

    Hi Javi,
    thank for the reply,
    after some discussion, trial and research, seems there is a process that is missed.
    as i know, when we check out the document the metadata itself cannot be edited. so then while we already saved the metadata, as by design the web file properties will be out and the metadata needs to be re-input again, as they will not be passed on check
    in process.
    so, this behavior is most likely by design, if you need to customize this then i think you need to open a ticket to us.
    "By default you cannot edit MetaData in case the document is checked-out - which is by design and acceptable. But if you open up a checked-out document from a WSS doclib and edit it in Word and click File > Save As - in order to save the document back
    into WSS - you are prompted for typing in MetaData (Web File Properties). In case you change or fill out some of them and in order to see them reflected on the WSS page you have to check-in the document again - which you will be ask for to do while closing
    the office application btw.
    If you keep the document checked-out the metadata are not reflected on the WSS page and are hidden (stored somewhere...) to the user. Users are confused because they cannot see the Metadata they typed in until they check-in the document. This wasn´t necassary
    with SPS2001 where we could see the changes we made to metadata immediately on the dashboard. And as Joerg also mentioned bad user experience - we create unnecessary versions as we have to check-in the document which creates an additional version.
    Solution here would be: either to reflect the changed MetaData immediately without the need to check-in the document or to avoid the Web File Properties Dialog box while performing a Save As of a checked-out document. "

  • Possible to edit the metadata for iTunes music?

    I'm trying to consolidate my iTunes libraries from 3 computers onto one. I used senuti to transfer my music from my MBP and another iMac onto my main iMac via my iPod and must not have specified that I wanted to import the metadata along with the tunes themselves. I now need to sort my music by "date added" and find that a whole chunk of my library shows the date/time of the senuti imports instead of the date the songs were originally added to iTunes. As a result, since all of the imported songs show the exact same date and time of being added, when I sort by "date added" I get a long alphabetical listing of all the songs I imported, instead of listing them album-by-album.
    Is there a way to edit the metadata for the music I senutied, so I can have the correct "date added" info for the albums?

    Sorry I wasn't clear about the Time Machine reference. I was explaining my reluctance to roll back to a previous version of my main library if the changes I had made to the MBP library were going to prevent me from importing its .xml.
    Chris CA wrote:
    Once you import the songs, you should be able to import the iTunes library.xml file from the other libraries to update this info with the songs you just added.
    How exactly do I do this? As a test, I tried making a new library and importing just a few songs, all of which came in with today's date. Using the WAG approach to importing the .xml, I tried using "add to library" and selecting the .xml of the real iTunes library. Nothing happened. I then tried "import playlist" and selecting the real library's .xml, which triggered the import of all of my songs, all with today's date. I suppose that today's date could be a function of using a just-created library for my test, but...
    Clearly my guesses were off the mark, so I could use a little more guidance.

  • Read metadata for a file without Photoshop or Bridge

    Hi
    Suppose I have a file in desktop called "test.jpg". So I create this variable:
    var myFile = new File ("~/Desktop/test.jpg");
    This file has some keywords and instructions I need to read. And if the reading process finds the correct keyword, then it copies the file to the appropriated folder. Well, in resume, I could do everything directlly using #target estoolkit. I´d not like to involve (opening) Photoshop or Bridge.
    Is it possible to read the metadata of a file without targetting Bridge or Photoshop? Reading the reference I did not find any method or property for this, expect for the metadata library. BUT
    If I try to load the metadata library using:
    if (ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript == undefined) {
            ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript = new ExternalObject('lib:AdobeXMPScript');
    then it sure will returns an error file or folder does not exists..
    Any idea how I could proceed to load this library and read the metadata of a file directlly?
    Thank you very much
    Best Regards
    Gustavo.

    Hi friends
    Thank you very much for your inputs. Muppet....what do you mean when you write The modified date gets bumped and can be a PITA? What means "PITA"?
    So, if it´s impossible to invoke [directly] the default library without targetting Bridge or Photoshop...I´ll simplify the things and use Bridge to house the script. No problem.
    So, look at what I´m doing:
    #target bridge
    if (ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript == undefined) {
            ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript = new ExternalObject('lib:AdobeXMPScript');
    var test = new File ("~/Desktop/Test.jpg");
    var xmp = test.metadata;
    alert(xmp);
    ...But, the alert in Adobe Bridge is returning nothing (""). And I know this image exists and it has metadata.
    I remember to use metadata for reading the currently selected image in Content panel of Bridge (and it worked), but never tried direrctly declaring a file and reading this way.
    Am I missing anything obvious?
    Thank you very much
    Gustavo.

  • Editing metadata in bridge CC

    I've used bridge to edit metadata of all my files as they are downloaded using CS4, now with CC I am having trouble. When I edit metadata and try to save it I get a message that Bridge had trouble writing to file. PS can write to file, and bridge can then see the changes, but I can't make changes in bridge where I'm use to making them to several (300+) files at a time. What am I doing wrong??

    OS permission problems are not uncommon with external drives.  Although it may sound crazy you may not be an authorized user of the drive.  A workaround is to right click on Bridge icon and choose "run as admininstrator".
    For long term fix check ouit this old thread.  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/957401?tstart=0

  • Editing metadata in Finder??

    can you edit metadata within finder?? I used to edit my files in Windows Explorer. I was able to edit the artist name, album, album artist, etc. all from the explorer ( Finder for Windows). But, it seems that you can't do any of that editing of file info within Finder, is there some way i can do this like i did with Windows without having to use a third party app?

    and of course the only metadata that is viewable within column view is a couple things only applicable to all file types, and you can't even customize it like in windows to include other metadata columns, that's lame as heck, and like i said get info window does no good when you are trying to view a large number of files at once, and even then the metadata is not editable within the get info window, so from what i can tell finder needs to step it up big time, don't let windows have an edge, it's such a simple thing to pull off, if windows can do it, why not mac finder, seems like they are dumbing it down just a little much in this regard

  • Editing metadata in a TIFF image

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to edit TIFF image metadata using ImageIO v1.1 APIs, but something goes wrong...
    For a TIFFImageWriter I get the following results:
    writer.canInsertEmpty = true
    writer.canInsertImage = true
    writer.canRemoveImage = false
    writer.canReplaceImageMetadata = false
    writer.canReplacePixels = true
    writer.canReplaceStreamMetadata = false
    writer.canWriteEmpty = true
    writer.canWriteRasters = false
    writer.canWriteSequence = trueSo editing metadata with writer.replaceImageMetadata is not possible (I verified this, an exception is thrown). I thought I could remove an entire image and reinsert it with new metadata, but as you can see writer.removeImage is unavailable, too.
    How can I edit a TIFF image without rewriting it to a totally new image file?
    Any help will be appreciated,
    Giuseppe

    Huh... I am in bitmap... OK, how would I go about changing to RGB? Not a complete novice, but never had a similar problem before.

  • How do I get the metadata for a page to show up when I Google search?

    When I search for my website on Google, the description that shows up is the actual content of the page. I had it set previously to where the metadata for the home page would show up in the description. But now I edited the information in the metadata and that no longer shows up. I dont think I changed any other settings...what do I have to do in order to get the metadata to show up? Please help, thank you! So if you have a folder with, say, 30 files inside it, the icon for the folder shows 30 tiny icons as the icon for that enclosing folder?  Doesn't seem too useful to me considering how small those icons would be.
    I usually set a folder view with two to four large icons. The ability to see inside the folder makes it a breeze for cataloging and retrieving images, especially when I dont remember the date I photographed them.
    I bought the Mac for graphics but this thumbnail interface is what makes Explorer so beautiful to work with. It appears from what I've read that the only way to have Finder compete with this as a catalogue tool is to actually hand create an individual thumbnail for each folder on the Mac. Does anyone know if this is painfully true and if so, is there a third party software known or does anyone out there actually know the secret to displaying folder contents on a Mac? Thanks.

  • Export Metadata for Deski Report failed with Metadata Integrator

    Hi everybody,
    We installed 2 weeks ago BusinessObject Data Integrator 3.0. As we also have BusinessObject XI 3.0, we have installed the component Metadata Integrator on our BOXI 3.0 server. We configured it successfully and the Metadata Integrator program was added to our BOXI repository.
    Then, we executed the Metadata Integrator program from the CMC console. The job run successfully but when we looked at the log file we realized that the program was not able to create the metadata for the BO Deski reports in our BODI repository whereas it was able to do it for our BO Universes. Then when we access the Impact and Lineage Analysis tool from the BODI management console, we can only see the metadata for our BO Universes but not for our Deski reports !!

    Helo,
    The "Member/Alias" problem is solved by using the command "REPALIASMBR" and the "parent/child" is solved in two steps:
    1 - Use the command "INDENTGEN" to indent on your flat file
    2 - Run an custom script (in my case PERL) on your file to transform that "indent" into parent child (the member indented is the parent of the previous ones)
    Another solution is to use "OlapUnderground Outline Extractor" that do all that work for you.

    hope that helps.

  • Edit metadata without changing modified file date

    I'd like to use Bridge (CS4) to edit metadata in both JPEGs and RAW files, without changing the original file date/time stamp.
    Any way I can do this? Thanks.

    Thanks. I'm familiar with the file date utilities available (I've even written such a program myself), but it seems like an awkward solution.
    Since first posting this question, I discovered that I can keep my raw files untouched, by selecting Camera Raw Preferences > Save image settings > Sidecar .xmp files.
    I'd like to see a similar setting for JPEG images as well. Please?

    I want to share a folder of images with a client who is also using bridge. I want the client to be able to edit metadata and rate the image. How can I do this?

    Metadata won't be a problem as long as you use Bridge to copy the file from within Bridge to whatever media (flash drive, CD/DVD. email, etc) you plan to use for the sharing.
    I'm not sure about the Label part.  Maybe it will travel along too.

  • How to configure and save presets for custom scanning?

    There are 5 presets in Acrobat XI for scanning files: "Autodetect...", "Black &White...", "Grayscale...", "Color Doc...",  and "Color Image".
    There is also an option to to do a "Custom Scan..." and "Configure Presets" (modify the 5 above).
    However, I could not find any way to create my own custom presets.. is that not possible?
    I was hoping to at least save my configuration(and/or possibly create a few different custom scan templates) in the Custom Scan for future scans but that was also not an option.
    I would gladly use the  5 presets and configure them to how I want them but its unfortunate there are no output options there to automatically append a scan to an existing file or create multiple files from a continuous scan.
    So... 1) Can you create custom presets for scanning? 2) Is there a way to configure output options in the existing scan presets? Thanks!

    Pavanmeet,
    you have to set all activities in the workflow to "general task" as well, not only for WS12300111 itself (doubleclick on each symbol with the "triangle").
    check the status of the sent leave request in transaction PTARQ (Display Documents). Here the "next agent" & the "pers. no" of the next agent is of interest.
    logon with the user, that is saved in infotype 0105 of the above mentioned pers.no. there should be the approve request.
    you can check the status of the workitems with SWI1 (i assume your system is prepared for workflows , check SWU3)
