Editing xml documents
My application uses xml for data persistency. My question is:
1. is there a way to partially edit part of the xml file? because if I make some small changes to my data, i wish to save just that part.
2. Or I can just save the whole thing and overwrite the orignal file entirely, is this a common practice?
thanks!
A javax.xml.transform.Transformer transform method stores a Documentnode or a DocumentFragment node.
Transformer transformer;
Document document;
Node node;
DocumentFragment documentFragment=document.createDocumentFragment();
documentFragment.appendChild(node);
transformer.transform(new DOMSource(document), new StreamResult(new File("c:/output/output.xml")));
transformer.transform(new DOMSource(documentFragment), new StreamResult(new File("c:/output/outputNode.xml")));

Help required to edit xml document
I am new to java and xml compatibility.I just had familiarised SAX parser.
I now want to familiarse the technology to edit xml document from a java program(more precisely write to an xml file).I came to know about many methods - JAXP DOM method,JAXB api method - and is totally confused.
Can any body give me guidance about these api's and suggest a method that
i should follow?
i repeat that my application will have to frequently edit xml files
Thank youHi,
it's very easy to edit and create XML. See examples in docs: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/langref/XML.html#includeExamplesSummary
There are many examples how to get attributes and other data.
You also can set attributes the same way.
If you have concrete questions, ask. -

Using JAXB to edit XML documents
I am trying to understand how (and whether) JAXB can be used to make the following types of changes to an existing XML document. I know that I can EDIT an XML document using the set methods that are generated by JAXB (in conformance with the XML Schema), and then I create a Marshaller and marshall the root element object.
However, I have not figured out how to do any of the following:
(i) insert a new element
(ii) delete an existing element
(iii) reorder elements.
Here is an excerpt from an XML document:
<directory name="dir">
<file name="file1"/>
<file name="file2"/>
<file name="file3"/>
</directory>
The order in which the file elements appear is significant.
If I want to add a new file (file4), how would I do this? Where would it be added, at the end? What if I wanted to add it after file2?
If I want to delete file1, I don't know how to do that.
Finally, if I want to move file2 after file3, I don't know how to do that.
It seems as though I need access to the underlying com.sun.xml.bind.util.ListImpl (or similar collection object), which holds the actual file elements when JAXB unmarshals the xml file. However, this seems dangerous and I have gotten a concurrent access exception while trying to do something like this. (Another problem has to do with iterators, where I can't iterate through a list and then make a change to the list w/o messing up the iterator.)
If there are any technologies other than JAXB that might accomplish this, but that provide data binding, I would be happy to hear about it. (I could try SAX/DOM/JDOM/DOM4J or XSLT, I guess, but I like the data binding of JAXB.)As is typical for me, I answered my own questions.
if you are outside of an iterator, you can simply use the:
add(object)
add(position,object)
remove(object)
methods of the List interface to add and remove elements from the list of elements.
Also, if you use a ListIterator, you can call the add() and remove() methods of ListIterator while iterating through the list.
In order to reorder elements in the list, use:
Collections.swap(list,pos1,pos2). Why this method is not built into the List interface itself is beyond me. This was only added in 1.4, btw. -
Editing XML documents from iFS WebUI
When I click on an XML document within the iFS WebUI, it opens the file and shows it to me within Internet Explorer.
I want the document to be opened on my workstation with Arbortext Epic Editor, but IE keeps trying to display it.
Has anyone had a problem like this? I don't want Internet Explorer to open the document, but what the XML file is associated with within Windows...
I have tried changing the MIME type for XML documents within JWS from default to application/octet-stream in an attempt to force IE to pass it to the operating system... but it didn't work.. unless I change the wrong mime.properties file...
Anyone have a solution?Did you change your settings in IE for that mimetype ?

How do I add (or insert) a node into an XML document with JSTL?
Dear all,
I am trying to use JSTL to store some data from a form into XML. However, I have read many articles in JSTL and only found that it can only be, as far as those articles are concerned, used to "read" data from XML files, but not "write" to them.
Am I missing something in JSTL? Or, if I want to write to an XML file (e.g., insert a new node, or modify a node's data), will I have to write my own bean and then use <c:usebean />?
Thanks very much in advance.
Regards,
RobertJSTL is not a programming language in and of itself. It is intended to help you to write scriptlet free JSPs.
JSP pages (by one school of thought) are intended to function as the "View" in a Model-View-Controller architecture.
Being a view, JSP pages should be able to look at things - but not touch.
The standard pattern is to go to a servlet first, which invokes the logic, and then forwards to a JSP for rendering.
Editing XML by adding new nodes etc etc is thus a function of the java code layer - servlet/action whatever you want to call it.
Giving you the power to edit XML documents via JSTL (ie on a JSP page) takes away from purity of the MVC design.
Hence why they don't provide the tags for manipulating XML, and only provide the database tags with a disclaimer that they should only be used for prototypes/trivial apps!
JSTL is designed to replace scriptlet code on a JSP page.
It can replace 99% of scriptlet code. The other 1% shouldn't be on the JSP in the first place :-)

hello everybody,
i'm trying to write a java application for editing xml documents.
I know It is possible to use xsl stylesheets to transform xml documents but it is possible to display the result of the transformation process in java?
I mean,
I make the transformation XML --->XSL ---->but i don't want to view the output in a browser!! I want to view that in my java application !!
Can i display this output in swing objects?? Can i modify this output??
Thanks to all.I make the transformation XML --->XSL ---->but i don'tYou mean XML+XSLT=>XML
want to view the output in a browser!! I want to view
that in my java application !!
Can i display this output in swing objects?? Can i
modify this output??Here is an example for saxon:
// I didn't compile or run this code, please refer to API documentation for more detail instructions.
// Transformer factory.
TransformerFactory transformerFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
// XML source file
File source_file = new File("xml_file.xml");
// output file
File outputFile = new File( "output.out");
// Transformation source
Source source = new StreamSource(source_file);
// Transformation result
out = new java.io.FileOutputStream(outputFile);
StreamResult result = new StreamResult(out);
result.setSystemId(outputFile.toURI().toString());
// Must be synchronized by factory, since factory isn't thread safe
synchronized (transformerFactory) {
// obtain a transformer
transformer = transformerFactory.newTransformer(new StreamSource(new File("xslt_template.xsl")));
// perform transformation
transformer.transform(source, result);
As you can see, you easely can redirect result to your Swing editor.
If you don't want to bother about streams and so on, you can use this example to write the result into the file, and open the file in your editor. -

Problem replacing Null nodes with real values in XML documents...
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
Our friends in Java land are insisting on passing data between Java and PL/SQL using fairly small XML documents (don't ask). I then need to extract the input parameter values and pass them, on to the stored procedures that actually do the work. These return a result which needs to be returned to the java layer in the output XML document.
Here is a cut down version of the input XML...
<ParameterList xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<Parameter>

<Result xsi:nil="true"/>
</Parameter>
<Parameter>

<Result xsi:nil="true"/>
</Parameter>
</ParameterList>
and this is an example of what I am expected to return...
<ParameterList xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<Parameter>

*<Result>SUCCESS</Result>*
</Parameter>
<Parameter>

*<Result>WARNING</Result>*
</Parameter>
</ParameterList>
i.e. I am expected to replace the value of the Result node with a string indicating the succes or otherwise of the underlying PL/SQL process.
I am extracting the input values using the DBMS_XMLDOM functions and naively assumed that DBMS_XMLDOM.SETNODEVALUE could be used to update the value in the Result node - It didn't work so I resorted to reading the documentation which revealed that it will not work for a null node.
Am I going to have to use XSLT to generate the output XML from the Input and incorprate the result? Or is there a simpler way?
I have used XSLT in Oracle before and still have the nervous tick...Thanks A Non,
With your suggestion and a bit of help from the w3schools.com xml dom tutorial I eventually managed to work out how to do this.
Here is the code (with all my debug stuff in so it looks worse than it is...)

Error: No valid XML document received*_
Hi All,
We are connecting our CCMS system to NetWeaver J2EE engine on which E-Sourcing is running.
For this we registered java component and hosts in cen.

MaheshHi,
Please re-read the answer from Marc carefully. He was in the exact same situation as yours:
- Monitored system: NW CE 7.1
- CEN: NW 7.01 (same as NW 7.0 EhP1)
The link you posted is for CEN with NW 7.3 and monitored systems from NW 7.02 (and up). Read the paragraph below the Caution sign:
If you want to centrally monitor any system with a central monitoring system with release SAP NetWeaver 7.0, this procedure is not applicable. In this case, follow the procedure described in the newest Monitoring Setup Guide for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 instead. You can obtain the Monitoring Setup Guide at the Internet address service.sap.com/operationsnw70 in the Monitoring area.
You should look for (and follow) the right Monitoring Setup Guide as mentioned.

Office Web App Server 2013: cannot edit word document with own WOPI Server
Hi all,
I tried to build our own WOPI Server to connect to Office Web App Server 2013 SP1. Viewing documents
in IE was possible quite easy to achieve. Now it comes to editing.
When I try to edit a document, I got a german message “Sie verfügen leider nicht über die Berechtigung zum Bearbeiten dieses Dokuments“.
This means something like „Sorry, you do not have any permission to modify this document”.
I enabled editing on the OWAS-Server while setup procedure
(Until now, I only have an InternalUrl but no ExternalUrl.)
PS C:\ > New-OfficeWebAppsFarm –InternalUrl “https://win-owas...”
–CertificateName "win-owas…" –EditingEnabled
ULS log shows
BaseDocument says editing is not supported [WebEditingEnabled: True] [SupportsEditing: True] [PinnedUsersRights: Read]
So far, I implemented these three REST service methods:
[OperationContract]
[WebInvoke
"GET":"api/wopi/files/{name}?access_token={access_token}"
"GET":"api/wopi/files/{name}/contents?access_token={access_token}"
"POST":"api/wopi/files/{name}/contents?access_token={access_token}"
Office Web App Server was downloaded from “Microsoft Volume Licensing Center”. I installed latest updates from Microsoft.
Did anybody succeed in writing to own WOPI an can give me some hints?
Thank you in advance.Hi,
The discovery xml contains many lines. The one for editing docx is:
<action
name="edit"
urlsrc="https://win-owas.cado.camos.de/we/wordeditorframe.aspx?"<ui=UI_LLCC=""&><rs=DC_LLCC=""&><showpagestats=PERFSTATS=""&>"
ext="docx" requires="locks,cobalt,update"/>
I am calling it this way:
<iframe
src="https://win-owas.cado.camos.de/we/wordeditorframe.aspx?WOPISrc=http%3a%2f%2fpc-ms.cado.camos.de%3a8000%2fWOPI%2fapi%2Fwopi%2Ffiles%2FAbout_Keyboard_Input.docx&access_token=5268690b-19c6-496d-8ae6-b694f8e7bd0c"
I’m not sure whether or not I implemented "locks,cobalt,update" correct, but I do not see any ‘edit-’network traffic from OWAS-Server to WOPI-Server. So I cannot debug anything. I will (re)check the articles you mentioned.
Thank you for your help. -

For the last 5 years (and in IPCC3.x/4.x,UCCX/5.x/7.x) I've used the same basic subflow to read a XML document that contains holiday dates where the queue should be closed. I've re-used this script on 20+ client installs and it's always worked. The structure of the script allows you to pass the path and filename of the XML document as parameters to the subflow. (The document is in the repository)
I loaded this script in UCCX 8.0.2 recently and it crashed with a Java.IO error. It looked like it was trying to read the file system directly and not the repository. (In the Linux appliance model this kind of makes sense but why is the step trying to read the file system directly?)
So I open a TAC case (SR# 615243125) and TAC tells me that the method of using the Create File Document step is not supported anymore and that I should specify the filename directly in the Create XML Document step
The problem that I see (aside from having to edit all my scripts that use XML files) is that the Create XML Document step is looking for the input to be a type DOCUMENT and not a type STRING. This seems to imply that I have to hardcode the document in each script that I deploy for a customer. When it was a string it was easy to construct the full file path from parameters and pass to the subflow.
Questions to the group
#1 Am I missing something here?
#2 Do you assume that you'll be able to load a script that worked fine in UCCX 7 into UCCX 8 and that it should completely function when you're doing everything according to the step reference documentation.
#3 Cisco didn’t document this in any way that I can find.
#4 How can you use the Create XML Document step in a fashion that would let you construct the path of the file and the filename previously in the script so you could pass it to a subflow ? It would seem this functionality has been killed in UCCX 8

The create XML document input can only be a type DOCUMENT#1 Am I missing something here?
You are mixing two different issues together here.
The Create File Document step is indeed not needed or supported for creating an XML document. That is why there is a unique step; to trigger XML parsing within the MIVR subsystem.
Accessing the file system is restricted to a single folder within the VOS model (i.e. 8.0+). This folder is not backed up, replicated, or cleaned up automatically. It was intended to give developers some FS access as a temporary swap location only.
#2 Do you assume that you'll be able to load a script that
worked fine in UCCX 7 into UCCX 8 and that it should completely
function when you're doing everything according to the step reference
documentation.
Assume nothing; read the documentation and attend one of the dozens of partner training sessions that CCBU put on advising of the upcoming changes.
#3 Cisco didn’t document this in any way that I can find.
You're right, I guess, on the Create File vs. XML Document step. AFAIK Cisco never wrote a notice into the Step Reference Guide explicitly stating that you cannot use the Create File Document although the documentation seemed pretty clear to me without it. File system restrictions are documented in the 8.0 release notes.
Scripting and Development Series: Volume 2, Editor Step ReferenceUse the Create XML Document step to create a logical document that maps a document to another document variable (where the document has already been pre-parsed as an XML document and is ready to be accessed by the Get XML Document Data step).Use this step before the Get XML Document Data step to obtain data from a document formatted using the Extensible Markup Language (XML).
#4 How can you use the Create XML Document step in a fashion that would
let you construct the path of the file and the filename previously in
the script so you could pass it to a subflow ? It would seem this functionality has been killed in UCCX 8
No it hasn't; just concatinate a string to build the Source Document parameter the step needs. Example: "DOC[" + myFilePath + "]" -

Replacing special characters from xml document/text inside element
Hi
Is there any way to replace the xml codes to special characters inside an entire xml document/ for a text in element.
I want to get the xml codes to get replaced to respective special character(for any special character)
Please see the sample xml xml element below
<Details>Advance is applicable only for < 1000. This is mentioned in Seller's document</Details>
Thanks in advance .. any help will be highly appreciated.So, just to be sure I understand correctly, you want this :
<Details>Advance is applicable only for < 1000. This is mentioned in Seller's document</Details>
to be converted to :
<Details>Advance is applicable only for < 1000. This is mentioned in Seller's document</Details>
If so, I'll say again : the resulting XML document will be invalid.
Extensible Markup Language (XML) 1.0 (Fifth Edition)
The ampersand character (&) and the left angle bracket (<) MUST NOT appear in their literal form, except when used as markup delimiters, or within a comment, a processing instruction, or a CDATA section. If they are needed elsewhere, they MUST be escaped using either numeric character references or the strings " & " and " < " respectively. The right angle bracket (>) may be represented using the string " > ", and MUST, for compatibility, be escaped using either " > " or a character reference when it appears in the string " " in content, when that string is not marking the end of a CDATA section.

Creating new analysis gives "Error loading XML Document from ..."
Trying to create analysis and getting "Error loading XML Document from saw.dll/answers/answersproperties.xml?fmapId=S1clug.
The response given was:" after choosing subject area. Analysis editor is opened but Subject Areas is empty and can't do anything.
The problem is on Mozilla 12 (16.0.2, 17.0.1) and IE 8. Chrome works fine.
My system is Win 7, BI 11.1.1.6.0 is on Oracle Linux (and by the way Mozilla from Linux system works fine)
What could be the reason of this?
