EEM optical transceiver power warnings

i am wanting a script that will generate a syslog message for both tx/rx transciever power warnings and alarms.  I would like to use the command "show inter transceiver" which generates output similiar to the output below (also see the attached output  file)
switch6504#show inter transceiver
port          temp          volts          current          optical tx power          optical rx power
Te3/7        34.1          0.00          41.8 --            -2.0 - -                          -5.1 -
Note: A single hyphen after number is a warning and a double hyphen is an alarm
I am wanting the EEM script to generate a syslog message for both the warning or alarm of tx/rx power.  Two different syslog messages:
1) syslog  = "$interface has an optical tx/rx power alarm"
2) syslog = "$interface  has an optical tx/rx power warning"
I am only concerned about tx/rx power.  I would like for the script to run every 30 minutes. If there is a warning/alarm on an interface to send a syslog once every 24hours while conditions are still met.
I have started the script (see attachment) and would appreciate any assistance.
thanks!!

Joe,
i am reading the "tcl scripting for cisco ios"  book and using it to fully understand this script that you wrote.  Could please explain the catch commands like the one below:
if [catch {cli_open} result] {
   error $result $errorInfo
} else {
    array set cli1 $result
thanks!!

  • Optical Receive Power Warning - Operating above threshold

    As we know,
we cannot configure the optical transmit power of the SFP. Though we can check the receive power level received by peer through the command:
    show interface transceiver detail
    However, logs have been displaying:
Aug 20 06:45:14.434: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Gi1/0/25: Rx power high warning; Operating value:  -1.7 dBm, Threshold value:  -3.0 dBm.
    Checking it:
Optical            High Alarm  High Warn  Low Warn   Low Alarm
Receive Power      Threshold   Threshold  Threshold  Threshold
Port       (dBm)              (dBm)       (dBm)      (dBm)      (dBm)
    Gi1/0/25    -1.7         +       1.0        -3.0       -19.0      -23.0
WIll this have a big impact on my switch? Especially the SFP module
    Factors like damage, etc.
Also, how will it affect network performance, both the health and operation of my devices
Your ideas are greatly appreciated (and if you can back it up with docs, it'd would be helpful too! ^_^)

It seems your distant end is sending a relatively high output power and/or you have a very short fiber connection with very little loss. Since you are only in the 'warn' range you are not likely to cause any damage to the receiving SFP or affect network operation adversely.  You do have the option of adding an optical attenuator to the link to make the operating range more within specification.

  • T400: Optical Drive Power Off, Then Disappears

I'm running Win 7 x64 on a T400, and recently installed Power Manager 3.12.  Since 3.11, I've enabled the "Automatic Optical Drive Power Off" feature.  In Vista, this worked fine, where once the drive was powered off (and the light on it would go off), I'd eject it and it'd automatically power back on.  Or, in My Computer, I could right-clik on it and power it back on.
Now, in Win 7, once it powers off, it disappears from My Computer completely.  On top of that, the light on the drive stays on, and after a while a different thing shows up in My Computer under "Other" and all it says is "(Powered Off)", but it's not the optical drive.  Clicking "Power On" on this phantom device does nothing, and ejecting and closing the optical drive does not get it to show up again either.
The only way I've found to re-enable the optical drive is to remove it physically from the laptop and re-insert it.  Then, it'll reappear in My Computer, but the mysterious Powered Off device still remains as well.
Is anyone else having a similar issue?  I'm leaning toward the assumption it's one of the many bugs in the Win 7 Power Manager (that along with the Dock Eject Action not functioning properly).  I'm at the point where I'm ready to just completely uninstall the Power Manager, as it only seems to cause more problems than it solves.

Sorry to bump this thread, but it seems that this issue is still not resolved. I have just completed an install of windows 7 on my T400, which orginally had windows vista preloaded. Everything is fine, execept for this optical drive issue. Upon auto-power off of the optical drive, the ultrabay slot light does not turn off even though my computer reports the optical drive as powered off. The drive then becomes inoperable until restart, even if you plug in the computer. By inoperable, I mean that windows no longer recognizees it.
Disabling the feature in power manager is not solving the issue however, because that also removes the power saving advantage that this feature has. I have installed both power manager (3.40) and the power managment driver. They were first installed using system update, and I have since removed and reinstalled them manually with no change. I have googled for a solution, but I have only found this thread to describe the problem most accurately. I don't know what I can do to solve this problem.
I have switchable graphics, and the optical drive is a dvd writer,

  • Optical Drive Power software command line switch

    Hello!
Are there any command line switches for the "Optical Drive Power" - TPSODDCtl.exe software? This software is part of toshiba power saver package. I would like to set it up to turn off my optical drive power on windows startup.
    Thanks,
    Milos

    Hello Milos
I use Toshiba notebook over 10 years now and something like this is not known to me. I think the answer to your question you can get from Toshiba software development department only.
I don't believe you will ever get any info about it.

  • Satellite A660 - Optical Drive Power: OFF

I have an A660 and I'm trying to make a System Repair Disk but the message "Windows did not find a CD/DVD burner comes up. I also noticed that the icon in the right hand side of the task bar says that the "Optical Drive Power: OFF".
I'm running Windows 7. I think it may be some power saving setting outside of the eco utility.
Can someone please offer some help on this it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

This is a strange bug that I have
When i unistalled dvd/cd-rom drives and the same for the modem, then scaned for hardware changes the wierdest thing happened. Modem driver installed OK then in the DVD/CD-ROM Drives folder both the MAT****A BD-CMB UJ141ES device and HUAWEI Mass storeage USB device appear. This has been the case since discovering the ODD is OFF.
By the way when I first discovered the problem and checked the DVD/CD-ROM Drives 2 folders were there:
    --HUAWEI Mass storeage USB device
    --HUAWEI Mass storeage USB device
and no sign of MAT****A BD-CMB UJ141ES device
Still curious about the FN+tab (maybe different model A660 series)
Couldn't find VAP for my model:
    Model Name Satellite A660

  • T530 Win 8 optical drive power off issue resolved

I found that my optical drive would power off & couldn't power it on (like many of you)  when it arrived md Nov.
Did a bunch of research & tried a lot of things and it finally stayed on.
A few days ago it was powered off again. Finally noticed that the day before I got an auto download of Lenovo's power manager.
I 'uninstalled' it & the drive stays on.
Needless to say I turned off auto updates.
Hope this helps someone out there.

  • Is additional optical transceiver required for OC48-SC interface?

Is additional optical interface transceiver, similar to GBIC or SFP, for OC-48-SC interface card, e.g.,"OC-48c/STM-16c SONET/SDH LR with SC"?
Is there any recommended reading material for comparision among SC, LC, GBIC, SFP?
    Thanks a lot!

The transceiver is included with that card. Googling for the terms you mentioned is probably your best bet.

  • Power manager optical drive power off

I enjoy the feature of automatically powering off the optical drive in power manager. My issue is after reformatting my T530 the option is there until I do an update using the Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update. One of the updates seems to remove the feature from the power manager. Does anyone else experience this and if so, do you know which update does it?

  • Constant power warnings

Little bit puzzled right now. When ever i start up my pc or play a game i get the nVidia power warning and i clocks my video card down...  this doesn't happen all the time with games... I'm not sure if this is my power supply not cranking out enough juice of a bad power connector on the FX5900XT. It is complaining out the extra molex connector not supplying enough power... any thoughts on which this might be. Fairly sure that my 430W is cranking out enough power....
Does anyone know how accurate the ASUS PC Probe is... its saying my +12V is usually at idle 11.93 and the +5 at idle is 4.93 but i have seen it go as low as 4.83.. i did notice that that when it says 4.83V the warning pops up...
Should I try a 500+W Power supply... any recommendations on a good one.

try making sure that 12v feed feeds only the vga
not it being after a buch of drives

  • C6509E/SUP2T/X6904-40G/FOURX Converter will not recognize 1G Optic Transceiver

We have a C6509E with dual VS-SUP2T-10G running 15.0(1)SY6.  A WS-X6904-40G-2T module is in slot1 and 2. They have CVR-CFP-4SFP10G converters in the slots.  The GLC-SX-MMD 1Gbps optical transceivers are not recognized, even though they are on the supported list.

A simple solution... upgrade to 15.1(2)SY2!  Now they are recognized.

  • Optical transceiver

    Hi,
i have catalyst express 500 switch with transceivers modules GLC-SX-MM, 1000BASE-SX SFP.
Is possible to change the speed of this transceivers to 100Mbit?
... i need it know, because on other side of link is a opical/metallic converter ( AT-MC101XL
    Fast Ethernet 100BASE-TX to 100BASE-FX (ST) Multi-Mode Fibre (2km), Stand-Alone Media Converter)
I think converter and tranciever are not compatible. Isn`t it?
    Thank.

Unfortunately, the GLC-SX-MM is not switchable to 100Mb operation. You need to purchase a 100Base-FX SFP module for your switch.
According to the following document, these are the 100Mb interfaces compatible with the Express 500:
    GLC-GE-100FX
    GLC-FE-100FX
    GLC-FE-100LX
    GLC-FE-100BX-D
    GLC-FE-100BX-U
This document details the interop and specifications of these SFPs:

  • How to disable "Power optical drive" icon?

    Hi everyone,
does anyone know how to disabling on the taskbar the "optical drive power" icon or how to deactivating at all the service? I cannot find it in Services, msconfig, not even in 3rd parties registry editors like Cc Cleaner or Jv16 PowerTools...
    Thanks a lot,
    Walter

Ive tried several options but was not able to remove this symbol from the task bar.
I dont know if this is the right one but when you open services there you will find option Toshiba optical disc drive service.
Anyway, dont change anything. It runs in the background and doesnt disturb on any way, right?

  • Difference between Optical Transmit and Receive Power?

    Hi all,
I'm running fine with a 3750X Stack, 3 TE plugged in and multiple GB's.
Now I'm following errors in my logs:
May 11 13:16:43 MET-1DS: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te1/1/2: Rx power high warning; Operating value:  -0.5 dBm, Threshold value:  -0.9 dBm.
May 11 13:25:39 MET-1DS: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te2/1/1: Rx power high warning; Operating value:   0.0 dBm, Threshold value:  -0.9 dBm.
May 11 13:26:43 MET-1DS: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te1/1/2: Rx power high warning; Operating value:  -0.4 dBm, Threshold value:  -0.9 dBm.
The port Te1/1/1 is clean. A "sh int te1/1/2 trans detail" shows a high value for "Optical Receive Power". Also te2/1/1 shows high value for Receive Power.
Is this an indicator for the remote module or cable?
IMHO transmit power would be a broken module in the switch, but receive power should be the module in the host or cable, correct?
    Thanks
    MB

Your distant end is transmitting at a level which, when combined with the actual loss over the transmission media cables(s) and patch panels(s), exceeds the input specifications of the transceivers in your stack.
If you can check the details on the transmitting end and compare them to specification that will tell you whether it is the culprit. If it is operating within specification, you can insert an optical attenuator at one end or the other to drop the light levels by a couple of dB.
    Hope this helps.

  • Optical drive automatically turns off due to power saver

I had a problem not being able to burn a disc
    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Satellite-Laptops-A-Series/missing-burning-drive-please-help/td-p/22362...
that I solved myself when I figured out it was because the optical drive turned off on its own.
My new problem is how do I get the optical drive to stay on or to be able to turn it on when I need it?  Doing a search in the forums here I found several other people with this problem but no good solution.  Unless I am missing it?
I did see the suggestion of going into the advanced power settings and making sure the optical drive power management was set to on for both plugged in and battery power.  This does not solve the problem though because my computer randomly turns the optical drive on and off as indicated by a pop up bubble in the right side of my task bar.  I also tried pressing fn and tab to change the setting but this does not work either.
How the heck do I get the thing to stay on?
Im running windows 7 64 bit and have a sattelite A660
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I know it's been a while since Amber posted this, but I just ran into this same problem and want to share what worked for me, when nothing else did. My CD/DVD drive was not reading CDs at all and was not showing up under My Computer. It kept telling me the Optical Drive was off, when in fact the energy settings had it turned on. I tried everything that everyone else suggested and nothing worked. I finally found this page that solved my problem:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116
**Note: on my computer, under Device Manager, my disk drive was giving a Code 19 error, which is a problem with the registry and therefore affects the optical drive. Apparently this fix can work for that, as well as some other error codes. As always, use caution when editing registries. Make sure you have the right path before doing anything.
I hope this helps someone else out there from having to pay money to fix a simple coding problem! (Toshiba wanted to charge me $49!)

  • SG300 optical monitoring snmp-mib

I was positively surprised to find the optical transmit/receive values using the
    show fiber-ports optical-transceiver detailed command on a SG300-10.
Now I'm wondering if there is also a SNMP-MIB to query these values?
I've already tried the CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB used by the larger devices running Cisco IOS, but this didn't work.

I've just experienced the same problem, so I went hunting through the MIB for a suitable table and I think I've found it.
What you want to check is CISCOSB-PHY-MIB::rlPhyTestGetTable which is a table of interface tests. It extends the normal SNMP ifTable so the rows are indexed by the ifIndex (57 & 58 for the two combo ports on an SG300-10) and the test type. It appears to contain tests such as the green ethernet tests and the fiber optic tests. This is what I get on one of my SG300-10's:
    $ snmptable -v 2c -c rocommunity sg300 rlPhyTestGetTable
    SNMP table: CISCOSB-PHY-MIB::rlPhyTestGetTable
rlPhyTestGetType rlPhyTestGetStatus rlPhyTestGetResult rlPhyTestGetUnits rlPhyTestGetAlarm rlPhyTestGetTimeStamp

               rlPhyTestTableTxFault            success                  0           boolean       notRelevant 11-Mar-2013 21:55:10
So for example to get the transceiver temperature for port gi10, it would be at OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.90.1.2.1.3.58.5.
Most of the values match up with the output I get from "show fiber-ports optical-transceiver detailed", with a bit of dividing by 1,000's to get into the same range, however I'm at a loss how to convert the milidbm output power reported by SNMP into milliwatts as reported by the CLI. Could someone confirm the maths for that?
